a game of chess is divided into:

Opening: This is where you fight for the center with your pawns and try to develop your pieces to set yourself up for the middlegame

Middlegame: This is where most of the juicy stuff happens. Captures, piece trades and attacks all happen here. In lower elos this is the stage where you hold on to the endgame to not get checkmated.

Endgame: There are a lot of different kind of endgames but most revolve about getting your pawn to the other side first

The stages are simple... but there are beginner, intermediate and advanced tips.

Beginner: Learn how to avoid tunnel vision, learn what pieces to develop when and where and get comfortable with chess's basics

Intermediate: Start to do puzzles to practice your tactics (pins, skewers, X-rays.. I'll go over them later) and learn about weak spots and putting pressure

Advanced: This is where I'm not qualified to give advice but I'll do my best. At this point you should already learn most endgames, deepen your trading knowledge and mostly pawn structure and positional play.

Moving onto tactics

There are different kinds of tactics:

Forks: Double, triple, or quadruple attacks onto pieces that cannot be defended. Guaranteeing a material (pieces) win.

Pins: Restricting a piece's movement by making it so that if it moves, you will capture a higher (or lower, but that'd be an X-ray) value piece.

Skewers: an X-ray but different name

Uhh it's late I have definitely missed any other tactic forgive me.

About openings: There are pretty much infinite openings, each having different moves and move orders. Best ones are openings that suit your playstyle. If you like closed positions go for a benoni for example but if you're into attacking you could go for a dutch (bad opening if you don't know what you're doing).
