Every time a move is played ask why would they play it and what does it achieve (especially In rapid)

Every time before you play a move give a quick scan your not hanging any pieces or basic forks/skewers

You could also try reason why you would play a certain move rather than moving for the sake of moving

I personally use the Carokann carls botvinnik (against e4), Nimzo Indian (against d4) and reti gambit (as white)

Bc it avoids many variations such as compared to if you played e4

If you want to try new openings for white you can try queens gambit or kings indian, for black you can try french or caro kann against e4 and like benoni against d4

Just try them out learn some of the plans if they don't align with your play style then choose another or just stick with your original two openings

But if you get to 2000+ you might need to know more theory for more openings because I played against a benoni player like yesterday and I didn't know theory ahaha

But if you're not there yet then don't worry stick to your openings learn basic opening principles and grind out those tactics

First of all. In this position. You pushed the pawn but

You could capture a free pawn, fork Q and B, discovered attack on his B

The king had open diagonal to expose

So your next step towards improvement isn't learn opening theory or crap

It's to start scanning the board as soon as the opponent makes an unconventional move

Or when you are in unfamiliar positions

Here, white blundered

So ask

Checks first

Then captures

Then attacks

You play 30 min games, that's already good

So in these positions, where your opponent already disregarded the opening rules

Brought their Q out early

You gotta punish it

That's your first step. Do that and you'll see improvement. Once you start punishing mistakes, you can touch 600 minimum.

Because in that position, you moved your pinned N which exposed your Q

And even putting the N therr wasn't good but it wasn't game losing

So 2 tips only

Also, you blundered mate in 1 when you could win his Q, just like he won yours. But even then, he blundered.

Before you make a move,

1. Check better options, and calc forcing moves first

2. Think what your opponent can do

This alone can take you to 600+ or potentially 700+ in a week or month depending on your adaptation

Umm I like lichess for their free puzzles but I think chesscom is better for playing against people because I'm somehow already top 20k in the world for lichess rapid while I'm top 100k in chesscom rapid, so chesscom has a bigger player pool and you can see more titled players on chesscom too hehe

As for courses, I don't buy them but you could prolly check out chessable

The best tip I can offer to you and most other people is too review games and see where, when and, why you mess up. If you run out of review or something like that on chesscom, use a free review site. I use ChessSigma, it's free and it tells you your moves the rating you played at and accuracy, just like chesscom. Also gets past 10 games from chesscom or Lichess if you use Lichess. Mb for the long ahh paragraph
