no game artist on elden ring, or artist here for the matter, woke up and asked a computer "generate me a full model of [INSERT RANDOM FOE HERE]". It's something they spent hours on, actively working and painstakingly doing by hand, instead of asking a robotic middle-man to do it for them. that's the difference between what you did and what they do. Each story trailer frame (the one you tried to remake) has been set up and rendered by one, if not multiple humans. some of them were painted by one, and then, it was also edited by more people. All you've done, is ask a machine to do most of that work for you, and it did so by stealing and ripping off thousands of man made work and mashing them up into a nothing burger of a picture that looks mildly appealing. Thinking that whatever Deep AI/ChatGPT belched out is even remotely comparable to the work that went into Elden Ring for example is a false equivalence.

sometimes the layers just pile on 💀 50+ sometimes I'm sure, and merge certain things when satisfied, then add another layer and add even more to it lol. a lot of repeating that kind of process for each part. I mainly use overlay, color dodge, reflect, and multiply. reflect is really good for pushing contrast, the places with the most contrast I probably used reflect layer there.

dang really ?!? i think i attempted it once years ago but was unpleased with my lack of saturation/felt like i couldnt get the colour i needed, and just gave up orz … if u have any tips (and free time) to spare i will listen with my whole heart

you do have to work it up, adding blending layers and then painting on top of those, etc. to eventually land where you want. you can also add color to it whenever you feel ready, don't need to wait til you've rendered everything completely, some do it one way, others the complete opposite. there's plenty of freedom to do what feels right for you and your painting. there Will be stages the painting looks dead but to me that just tells you what the painting needs, so give it life until it breathes lol. I like overlay layer a lot for adding color, but that first overlay layer is just the beginning, then put 2 or 3 on top of that, and maybe a multiply layer for some quick shadows. adding more saturation where you want it, slowly building up contrast in the painting. and paint normal layer for a bit on top of all this to bring it all together, then MORE blending layers for finishing touches to really pop things out.

check Christophe Young on YouTube, he has reallly good tutorials on greyscale to color

i love experimenting with blending layers .!!!!! so basically i should just do that on top of (possible underneath if needed?) until i get results i like. whether its add/multiply/overlay/colour dodge etc etc .. 🙏🙏 aghh this seems obvious in hindsight but i wouldn’t be as willing to try it again if you didnt explain it. finishing touches pre dramatics or so, then additional blending layers to make it super stand out or add even more drama…. AHH!!! i will definitely be trying this the next project i do. i try to step out of my comfort zone with my subjects every other project or so, but i am honestly super excited to step out of that comfort zone with my actual method. tysm for typing that out i super appreciate it 💗

Elden Ring OC’s pt2- Varyk, The Dragonfyre
Varyk is a tarnished from the Caelid Wilds and attended Raya Lucaria as a young boy to learn magic and to work on finding a cure for the scarlet rot, something that afflicted him like Malenia. As he aged and learned fire magic and during a freak accident, burned his right arm and side of his face. Not long after him and three others including a daughter of General Radahn would become part of a guard meant to protect Queen Rennala however this was short lived. Varyk returned home to Caelid and discovered a baby dragon without its mother. This would become his own dragon, Plasyraxes. He would learn to use her own fire in his magic to create hotter flames which can melt stone. He’s now travelling with his group now known as the Sellian Guard to try and claim the titles of Elden Lord.
