From prior games, DEX was like the easiest early-game DPS stat... And even late game it still was, in addition to an infusion of your choice.

STR weapons weighed a ton, had poor scaling in comparison and their idle frames post-swing made them easy to punish, compared to lighter weapons that dealt nearly as much damage.

Like, you could hit 3 times with a Straight Sword using high DEX scaling with a side of FTH/INT or FTH+INT...
And deal more damage that a 2-swing combo for an Ultra Greatsword with a spell-buff applied.

In Elden Ring they tried to make bonky weapons better by adding the poise system and tweaking it for stagger, knockdowns and such...
As well as making larger weapons with higher base damage values, thus trying to use equip load as a sort of demi-damage stat...

But the scaling is still kinda crap for most STR-oriented weapons.
Like, you can look at the best: Say, the guts-esaue "Greatsword" or "Giant Crusher"... And even with an S-scaling in STR, if you actually hover over another weapon with them equipped you can easily find weapons with the same letter for scaling, but it glows blue.
Why?

Because even within the same letter for scaling, there are grades.
Low-grade, mid- and high-grade scaling within each.

Most S-scaling STR weapons, in fact, are on the lower end of said grades comparing to all other S-scaling weapons for DEX.

The primary issue with STR, ignoring the PvP elements and damage per swing versus stamina consumed, is the stat allotment requirements.

Say, you have an S-scaling DEX sword that weighs like 9 units.
And on the other hand, an S-scaling greathammer which weighs 20+ units...

To wield said hammer, you need to meet its STR requirements in addition to having the equip load to carry it.
This means pumping the stat, wasting a talisman slot on it or using extremely lightweight armor.
Sometimes a mix of the three, even.

DEX bros don't have such a concern. They can pump the same amount of points as the STR bro into DEX, but instead most will just meet the DEX requirements... Which are much lower... Then add their mass of leftover stat points to casting stats like FTH or INT, allowing them to use powerful hybrid weapons with high mixed scaling that rapidly outpaces STR weapons.

This stat allotment efficiency is why almost every DEX build isn't pure DEX for their damage-dealing stats, unlike how most STR builds end up.

Ergo many DEX mains start early-game as DEX... Then mid-game split into casting or using INT/FTH to pump their main weapon even more.

In essence, the problem with STR is that it's a twin-stat investment to get the benefits of one stat's scaling for damage...

And DEX's requirements for both the stat itself and equip load tend to be on the far lower end, but scale damage much higher per their weight all the same.

You can see evidence of this, as legit one of the better DEX weapons in the game is one you start off with as a weeb. People keep asking others for a spare.

Yeah. The devs were finally listening to the STR mains when they implemented the equip load being tied to STR...
But ditched the idea and fell back on traditional stat logic because a lot of DEX mains were complaining that it was unfair for STR bros to be able to carry more and pump damage with the same stat.

Ignoring the fact that they literally cannot heft their huge weapons without equip load... And that using a lightweight STR weapon such as a mace or the like to use heavier armor with the left-over equip load is legit a sidegrade.
Most lightweight STR weapons have hella-short reach, so it's a major trade-off.

In a nutshell: Weebs whined about STR being gud, STR bros were mad because no one was listening to them, the game launched and they had to make a choice.

They went with the safe option: Maintain the status quo.

It's the power fantasy.
Problem is, a lot of weebs want that power fantasy and the devs wanna please the fans. The result is overtuned DEX weapons, because the ideal of the weeb is overwhelming spam and violence...

Whereas the ideals of most STR mains is a more visceral combat. They're satisfied, in the majority, with being able to bonk dudes onto the floor. Damage is seen as a fair trade for them to lose out on, in exchange.

It's... Not a bad way to approach the issue, but it fundamentally ignores the weighty aspects of the things.
I'm pretty sure the devs never actually fully adapted to the equip load stat being set to END, either.

It feels like a lot of the balance for the colossal weapons is designed around the STR-equip load concept. It's why so many folks talking about the colossal weapons say they feel quite lacking in power and impact.

IMO, it'd be best to simply make both ENDurance and STRength increase equip load.

And Those that wield heavy weapons can opt for equip load and STR, dumping stamina.

Like FR, to STR bros stamina is the least efficient stat to up because to swing their weapons consumes a huge chunk per.

To them, the difference between 20 stamina more and 60 may not even round up to an extra swing, but merely less negative stamina at the end of a combo.
With how slow they swing and now with the fact that we don't get a 2nd swing free if the first lands, most STR weapons are best used for hit-and-run strategies. High damage in a single swing, get out, repeat.

To STR mains, stamina recovery speed is far more useful than stamina capacity.

So for equip load's stat to be tied to stamina is a bit of a slap in the face to STR mains.

I just hate her gimmick. It's the one major rule for boss designs in tabletops and the like... Never give the boss an infinite-healing ability.

Whether it be estus flasks or vampiric attacks... It's just terrible.

Most bosses get, at most, "phases" which act as a heal and up the ante...
Malenia gets a second phase and both phases have vampiric attacks.

Worse, said attacks can full-heal her in a single combo... So it's not like it's a minor effect to fight against, getting hit at all even whilst shielding renders all attacks up til that point worthless.

I think she only heals after recieving damage like her great rune but, youre constantly going to be attacking her so, kinda pointless.

She cannot be staggered if she's mid-attack. You can't out-spam the spam-queen.
People have tried as much with her own weapon, it simply doesn't work.

You take an entire combo to whittle away health that she regains in like 2-3 hits.

Its a boss, you have to attack it to kill it.

She heals by beating your head in with any of her attacks. With how many hits she lands in her own combos, she can legit heal from 4% HP to full when dealing enough damage in two or three flurries to kill a 60 VIG dude at lvl.150-160.

There is very much a reason to not attack her. You can't trade hits with Malenia, no amount of damage you deal will win that war of attrition.
As I said, you can't stagger her if she's mid-attack; only when her attack ends and she goes to an idle state can she be KO'd or thrown.

I know this because myself using One-Eyed Shield and bros using twin Giant Crushes confirmed it first-hand.

It's best to catch her between combos and be wary of getting hyper-aggressive, as the moment she starts swinging she's un-stagger-able.

Like, think of it in simple terms. The max damage you're likely to deal in a hit is what, 25% of her HP?
Being very generous, here...

And if she hits you, you lose maybe about 8-20% per slap. Thrust or other specials may drop you by 60-100% in a hit or result in overkill depending on your build.

Even assuming you have all 12 flasks for HP-chuggery, she's gonna win that trade every time.
Furthermore, as I said, she can easily heal to full with a few slaps.
A war of attrition against Malenia is mega-braincel tactics.

And unlike some bosses such as Radahn, she can't really be stunlocked... Because as I said, again, the moment she starts an attack she becomes impossible to KO.

Best you can do is avoid her flurry, catch her post-attack, slam down or launch her... Beat her while she's down, roll away and repeat.

Or perhaps were you thinking of the tactic wherein you use multiple bleed builds to proc her over and over?
I recall bleed status proc' can force a stagger, so that could work?

Actual cheating? Boss dies in an instant.
Exploits? Boss dies in seconds, maybe a minute.
Bleed? It dies in minutes, because it's a percentile HP killer.

What matters is not how much damage it deals, but rather, how many times it procs. To enemies with massive HP pools like Radahn, it's arguably more lethal than some exploits.
