looks good i really like the expression on the caracter. But the coloring looks kind of unfinished. I can see you used a lot of the fill tool and there is nothing wrong with that i use it all the time it's just that the fill tool doesn't do very good job at coloring near the lines so I think you could clean the coloring just with a brush so there aren't eny offcolored pixels. me just trying to give constructive criticism like I know what I'm doing lol I'm sorry. good art tho. I liked it.

I was bored so I made an upgraded reaper called “The Devourer Leviathan.” It’s an extremely fast and large leviathan than can move at approximately 15 meters a second (The sea moth hits around 12), and has 6 mandibles. The Devourer is a modified Reaper that is partially bionic. The Architects started to modify creatures to see if they could get them to be extra resilient towards the Kharra, and succeeded, but not at the cost of their own lives.
After I made that I figured, “Well I should probably make something that can outrun it then...” So I did. Dubbed “The Sailfish” (after the fastest sea creature), it can move at a whopping 22 m/s, just as fast as the fastest submarine ever constructed on earth. I’m not the best artist but I was bored so lol

So I sketched out the creature I made in blender and I think its a finished design. It is leviathan classed creature. I've always wanted to create one. The chest area is an exposed area. It's a weak spot but its has a thick translucent layer. He's pretty strong. The two arms that have sharp thorny spikes on it help protect the middle part. He can force his arms together to stab what ever comes between them. You have to be lucky to survive. The rest of his skin is thick skinned like armor. Those bumps on the head are air holes, kinda like a whale when they come up for air. Floats to the top for air and every few hour's. The tentacles around him are sensors because it can only see a certain distance (nearsighted). He will have bio luminescence after I create a color palate and decide if the creature concept will be like this. (Also have been working on it in blender.)

I did a couple of little doodles of Subnautica designs a bit ago. I posted some of these to the Subnautica forum. I’m also making a reaper leviathan figurine! I have pictures, but I may post them a little later so I don’t spam. I hope you like these little ideas!
The first one I call the Kratos Leviathan. It’s a very aggressive leviathan, but I thought it would be cool if it jumped on land out of the water, kind of like a seal. It would then move in between a seal and a snake on land, with it’s 14 claws helping it crawl along as well.
This eyeball thing is what I call a Sap Floater. It attaches to other creatures and slowly eats them alive, while also making them float upwards to be unable to get away to caves and sand on the ocean floor. The eye on it can only tell the difference between light and shadows, so it rests on the floor until a creature swims over it, where it then sprints up to them and latches on. You can catch these and use them for a bubble of air if desperate, or turn them into a jelly-like meal when cooked.
Last is this little fishy. It uses it’s 6 segmented beaks to scrape algae and rock bugs off of rocks. It also feeds on corpses of other animals discarded by predators, giving it a little more flavor for diets. You can cook these and eat them, and their about as nutritious as a boomerang fish.

So, a while ago, I had this idea for what could have been in the void after a certain distance. I sketched it out and decided I should take a screenshot and edit it into that as well! Made everything on Ibis paint.
Imagine you’re swimming out into the void. You hear your pda tell you that you are entering the dead zone, and you wonder how far it goes. You keep swimming, swimming, swimming... around 30 seconds later, you’re sucked under water to the deepest part in about 1 second. A cutscene starts. You’re floating there for a second, unable to move. Suddenly, two huge eyes open, and you’re sat there staring at this silent, horrible face that you can barely make out beyond the eyes. In a quick movement, the mouth snaps open, and you’re quickly sucked inside. The cutscene ends, and you are dead.

One of these I put in color (the Sapper one) and the others were things I was trying to figure out something cool with. The bloat shrimp has a see-through backside that is filled with fungi and decomposing table coral. This sort of “bubble” acts as the stomach, and is filled with poisonous gas. When threatened, it will projectile belch at opponents and cause a cloud to form, giving it enough time to get away. It’s about the size of a peeper, but packs a massive punch. It will only attack when picked up, since it has very poor eyesight and can only tell the difference between light and shadows. If you scan them, they’ll be fine. After being picked up, the player will throw them and take damage. If you manage to grab them and press E, you can hold them, but it’s useless in blueprints. It acts much like an Acid Mushroom when places in a bioreactor, but it lasts a bit longer.
The Gazeloid is actually similar to a Nautilus from our world. It has a huge curled shell, which is also the eye part, and it’s true eye is hidden just above it. It has great vision, but enjoys using the tendrils on its arms to smell blood in the water. It can track prey from up to a mile away under the water, but will only feed when the prey is completely dead. If the prey is sick, it will avoid it at all costs. If the prey is much bigger than it is, it will wait until the prey has not moved for 5-10 minutes and then go in for a feast, using its tendrils to hold the beast down as it opens it’s mouth, hidden under the fake eye. The fins on the back o it aren’t for quick swimming, but actually to ride the current to get to disoriented smaller prey. A varied carnivore, it can go from being a bottom feeder to eating some of its own kind.
I was testing how strange I could go with this concept before it went into the “too odd” territory, and I feel the Gazealoid might stray into that territory. I may redesign it a bit, but I like the idea that it slowly goes after the player and waits for them to drown, sort of like the Eye jellies’ animation for slowly drifting over and surrounding the player :)

I recommend using a darker shade for your base color when you're making outlines, it usually makes your stuff look better. For example try to use a dark grey-ish outline instead of the black one

Hm.... not sure how I feel about this... I didn’t want to put the seamoth in there just in case it looked traced and I didn’t know if I wanted a rider, so I did this. Not liking the gross shading on her, but since she’s miniscule, there’s not much I can do. Thinking I’ll only keep this one for a size reference and use the one without her for an actual picture.

Ouch, my wrists are starting to ache. I’ve been working on this for hours! Hoping it’s looking better now though. I tried to fill the little empty space on the left but I believe I am finally done. I added in my little species of bottom feeders called Sappers! I really love their design and think they could clean the Kratos Leviathan like how @muted stratus suggested. It really got me thinking with that old concept and BAM! There I went, drawing for another couple of hours. I’m extremely happy with how this turned out! It’s the best piece I’ve ever done!

I do a traditional sketch of the creatures beforehand and take a picture of them before transferring them over to IBIS Paint. I get rid of the white and then block out the colors for it. Then I just put in a little place for where each light source is, shade it in, and then put in each lighting color. And yes it is! I’m glad I can zoom in though.

I also need to work on shading, as I am fine shading one object, but I find it hard to shade a landscape in a way that certain parts pop out and are clearly visable
if you look at my reef sketch you will find that you have to zoom in to see the anchor pods, instead of them sticking out

I’d suggest using a glowing effect :) light bounces, so make sure to keep part of the backs of mountains and flowers slightly lightened. Metal usually is brighter than dirt and hair since it reflects the light directly back. ^^
Oh, and don’t be afraid to make super dark shading! In pencil, you can erase what isn’t seen. Use the eraser as a difference pencil, one to bring lighting back

Here, maybe this will help. I just drew out two spheres, one using a 6B pencil and the other using a 2H
In the 6B one, you can really tell where I distinguishes the lighter sides of the darkness from the more shaded darkness. You can use your finger or a little smudge thing to blend everything together. I used the eraser to show the light source on top. Trick to shading darkness is to go slowly, and to draw out the shapes with the pencil darker than the actual background.
