Are you looking for spiral plants? I would go to the purple vents, there aren’t really squidshark there, just the armored things, uh the cryptosuchus. There is one chelicerate that prowls around the purple vents but I don’t have too much issue with it, just keep an eye out. You might be talking about the tree spires biome I’m not sure, it has at least one chelicerate as well, and there are spiral plants inside the anchored large ventgardens you find in that biome (you have to swim inside them using the opening underneath their “bell” or whatever to call it). There’s 3 sections of the Mercury so I guess it depends which segment of it you went to?
The bow is in lilypads, and is pretty close to tree spires iirc.
The other two sections are in purple vents, the stern and thrusters

Yes, you’ll find both down there, and both can be grown.
Spiral plants take a long time to grow and you don’t need a lot of them. So I would gather a few samples mostly to make a few synthetic fibers in your fabricator and maybe 2 for growing just in case you need some later
