What the game actually wants you to do is: Cross the bridge and explore that first area around the bridge and under the bridge. Then move one area further and explore that one, and so on. That might take a while.

It is good to have it at a peaceful and resourceful spot in the beginning

Once you are done with the story you can build all over the place

But during the story you will go back and forth quite a lot so having it somewhere central is helpful

But you only need a very primitive base, and you can always deconstruct it and put somewhere else

Most people build it next to the drop pod because they know the area quite well up to that point

I have 11 bases all over the map, but that was after finishing the game

Wall lockers have those blank spaces on top of label fields. Imagine adding a picture frame there, and when you are in a container, right click on an item in that container (which currently does nothing), would set that image as image for the container, and add recipe pin outline to show which item is marked, if any.

Visual cues are order of magnitude better than text to quickly identify what you need, and at least I am constantly having trouble finding the right container.

I usually do not recommend to harm animals but with the seatruck you can attack them yourself instead of waiting being attacked. Maybe this boosts your confidence. And yes save and repeat

re going out to repair: Attacks have a cooldown. So you have 10s of no attacks, at least. Enough to repair. if you do not wait

I discovered how to get my seatruck un-stuck! It stopped randomly without hitting anything.

I got out, took out the power cells, and put them back in. That got it moving again!

Now I don't have to use console commands to make a new one.

Also to answer your question, you can dive straight down down to like 250m or 300m in twisty where its almost pitch black, you can find a lot of diamonds there

If you think it is too dangerous to get diamonds from there you can try the moulin in the east arctic, zero enemies there only whales and holefish

In the largest iceberg there is like 20 magnetite and diamonds, gold and rubies just sitting there for the taking, no need for drill either. You just need a laser cutter to get in.

They take up a huge amount of space. So you’d have the best luck with the larger containment unit, even better with stacked large rooms holding stacked containment units, and not having much else in there except maybe a few small fish for looks.
