I do it near the edge of thermal spires and that way you're in a good middle ground between the twisty bridges and lilypads

feels like a good middle of the map type deal and there's plenty of heat to go around and solar panels work great because it's not too deep

Hey all, not sure if this is the right place for this but is anyone perchance playing on pc via gamepass and recently updated to Win11?
The game was working fine on W10, after the upgrade only Below Zero has permission issues and can't launch. Reinstall doesn't help. It seems to set the folder permissions incorrectly or something as they differ from other installed games.

Once you have the perimeter defense and fire it when it attacks, you get no or very minor damage.

Have you played the first game? If so then it's very similar. The goal of the first game is to go as deep as possible though while the goal of BZ is more about finding stuff/places in different locations and biomes.

I just lost my speedrun to a shadow leviathan. I was collecting ||kyanite for my depth module and it tried to come after me, but got stuck in some crystals. In what is possibly the most idiotic move in history, I moved my seatruck back into the open cavern and it grabbed my seatruck. Still had 30%, but then I got disoriented and it destroyed my seatruck.|| Somehow I was able to make it back up to my base on the seafloor of the lily pads, but now I don't have a seatruck and I'm already 2 1/2 hours into my run, so it may as well be chopped liver. I'd have to rebuild my seatruck and get all the modules again.

There's a rebreather. Mostly required. There's also a 215 second Ultra tank, which helps a lot. You could also carry an extra Large tank, swap underwater. Just make sure it's filled when you think it is

The longer I play Below Zero the more I like it than the original. Below Zero feels like a proper game and so much of the original Subnautica just feels like a proof of concept to me

Below Zero looks so much better and less bland, the biomes are beautiful and it's always a joy to look at. The Base Building is so much better. It feels more polished around the edges.

I honestly think that a third installment would just be perfect. If Below Zero had a bigger map and maybe some more aggressive creatures to balance out the new interesting ones we got like sea monkeys it'd be a wonderful game

Like the only thing I can really say that I like better about the original is that it felt like it went deeper with multiple different layers (BZ felt like it went one extra layer deep in certain areas), had a bigger map, and more leviathans. Since Below Zero in my reading was supposed to be a smaller experience by design (To be essentially like an expansion pack of the first game rather than Subnautica 2) it feels like that's just because of circumstance.

Yep,
I love the change of pace to the original, as there seems to be (as I’ve only played a little of it) no major need for a rush, like in Subnautica where there was the Kharaa bacteria and the imminent Aurora Explosion / Radiation, along with less Leviathans, therefore less need to worry.
I also love the QoL and Landscape changes, as Protanly said, they make BZ better than the original (in my opinion) as most things are fresh and new, with a few items from the previous game so people that have completed Subnautica feel right at home, along with throwing enough new content into the mix (such as Squidsharks, ;-;) to give a new experience.
