There is a mod for multiplayer on the original subnautica but I've never heard of one for below zero

That's because they decided not to update the mod for Below Zero, which is a great decision they made if you ask me.

It took years to get the Subnautica mod to what it currently is, they shouldn't spend sooo much on time on trying to port over everything. It will be an absolutely pain to maintain and will take an incredible amount of effort because of all things that changed.
