Basically, For a full explanation, Its a device that you can plant on the ground and it becomes stationary, They Prevent Iceworms from attacking you, they still apear but being in thumpers range will prevent it

If they put the prawn's physics, the ore veins and the base building features from Below Zero in ol' Subnautica, I say Subnautica gets almost objectively better than what BZ is or seems it's going to be. In scenery, monsters, leviathan/normal creatures balance, premise, ways to get resources, story pacing, progression... BZ isn't in early alpha; it's nearing 1.0. And to me, it feels like a badly made DLC exclusively when compared with the old Subnautica. Badly made in base things, not only polishing.
SPOILERS FROM NOW ON. Also, I feel Alan is mostly wasted, let alone current Marge. You literally have an alien intelligence inside your head, and Robin and Alan don't get to really know each other, they just start philosophical debates at random times without Robin, as anyone would do, massacring Alan with questions at first (imo the reason given is not enough, you can center your efforts in a body and you'll still have hours to talk later). Perhaps there could even be in game options to just tell Alan "this situation is awkward, only talk to me if it's important". But they don't talk to each other like anyone would do... And Robin swaps from absolutely terrified to "aye, I totally trust you, let's build you a body and follow every indication you give me" too fast. I'm not suggesting RPG like dialogues, but audio is a powerful tool I like to see in the game, and its current use is lackluster imo.

And, body scans are one time event-triggered dialogues. I'm talking normal stuff, normal conversations. You can interact several times even with the trivalve! (The trivalve interactions repeat, of course, but I hope it delivers the point)

To be honest: I somewhat agree with you.
A new world to explore, more base building options, more on-land interactions as well as the element of dialogues and other npcs make subnautica below zero definitely worth a play for someone who liked the first game. But the story currently feels like lacking.
It‘s going in interesting directions but it isn‘t comparable to the depth of the first game :/
