I think the leading theory is that eating the leviathan gave her resistance to Yrrah until the cure spread. I personally think that this holds water (PUN ABSOLUTELY INTENDED) because the reefback pda says they're emitting enzymes into the water.

I'm a psychologist and former researcher, one thing I love about SBZ is that AL-AN ||appears to have a change in his (Brain? Whatever counts for his Architectural neurology) alien mind over time while he shares a neural network with Robin. This is purely hypothetical but if the developers did do their research, which I strongly believe they did, AL-AN carried these changes into his new body|| The signs come through in dialogue with Robin both before and after his body is made, especially if you go out of your way to find all the interactions they have
AL-AN is ||specifically mentioned, not by name, in a PDA in the original Subnautica game. The PDAs title is "Alien Biological History"||

Yes the Prawn Suit is different. Weirdly different.
For instance when you move forward you use the jet. But when you deplete that, you still can move forward.
So you could ask yourself what's the point of draining that in the first place with forward movement.
It also falls very slowly.
And you have some exploit on land when you grab an outcrop that makes you go very quickly.

As Sh4dow mentioned, calaverite outcrops can be found in kelp caves. Another option is the 'speedrunner cave': if you can find the place where you first enter water when coming from the crashed ship, there is a cave with ore veins little bit to the right (when coming from land to water)

as far as the biomes being empty... i kind of feel it's the opposite, and if anything is the problem it's that? They're densely packed with scenery, critters, plot, and wreck stuff which is nice but can make finding a good spot for a big sprawling base a little challenging

Jump jet can be found in Koppa mining site (ready module, no need to craft). I think there is no seatruck engine efficiency module, but you can find horsepower upgrade (less speed penalty for added modules) and afterburner upgrade (temporary speed boost) fragments in lilypads sea monkey nests
