Hint: the lily pad caves will have those fragments for the ultra tank you’re wanting (need to check around the outsides of the sea monkey nests). There’s several fragment types you’ll find there, including some good upgrades for the seatruck as well (HP upgrade, afterburner too).

Nickel is also on the walls of the lilypad caves. It’s not that rare tbh, just have to recognize what it looks like. And yes you can also find in the place with the big cotton anemones as well

Personally I don’t like the mineral detector finder thing, the range is very small. I’d rather build a nearby scanner room with HUD chip and make use of that, but whatever way works for you.

You can find nearly everything within scanner range of lilypad biome. Just max out a scanner room with 4 range upgrades and go to town. Make a little garden to power a bio reactor.

That is not a bug, it's intentional. Collisions only exist near the player, so creatures far away can clip through the terrain all the time. They can clip out whenever they feel like, as the collisions are one-way. This might sound dumb, but this is a feature they put in place, to significantly reduce lag. Leviathans are always further away than they seem, which is why it seems to mostly happen with them. This still happens in BZ.

Galena is as common as dirt. Lead isn't hard to find. Whenever I do a new game in either Subnautica or Below Zero, I try and get the Scanner Room and HUD chip as soon as possible. The HUD chip is far and away the most powerful item in the game and it makes resource farming significantly easier.

One thing I do miss from Subnautica 1 is the large mineral deposits for Lead, Magnetite and Lithium.

I just finished BZ the other night and thought it was charming :) a little inconsistent story-wise but I also figured there was some strife in the writing room or COVID happened or some combination of things like that

I liked the story in SB1 much more, but I liked finding all the audio logs of the BZ crew who abandoned the station before you arrived... It was much less depressing than the first game where I knew everyone was dead. But that sense of desolation & isolation was also very compelling + thematically it cohered with a protagonist who was stranded. I thought it was interesting that the team took it a different direction in BZ! I'm not sure which I would prefer more, like which would i choose in a fantasy land where I control the next narrative lmao

I also prefer a talking protagonist + spoilers -> ||There's An Alien In My Head is one of my ultimate catnips and I'll shove aside a lot of complaints if there's an Alien In My Head plot / subplot. I lowkey thought AL-AN was gonna be a bad guy, but it turned into a lovely interspecies friendship, which is another big weak point of mine.|| When playing Subnautica especially, I love to sort of immerse myself as A Scientist Exploring The World and having my scanner around and scanning things is no joke the highlight of both games to me.

That doesn’t mean she hangs out in that exact spot, but that she was last spotted “somewhere around here”

If you already found her and the signal is still there & bothering you, you can manually turn it (and other signals) off

oceans IRL are filled with a lot of “void” like areas where there is hardly any life! The further you get from land the more inhospitable it is, so it made sense to me that it became more desolate / very difficult to navigate in the game as well.

Especially when you consider kharaa means they went through a near extinction event

Definitively a feature, but while it's often caused by the fabricator it isn't specific to it.

It happens when the power rate is inferior to -2.6, which is a very arbitrary number.

It was even adjusted after this ticket.

It’s a source of fascination to me so I like to talk about it. this video has a really good basic explanation for it as well— once you’re a certain distance from land there is generally a sharp increase in the depth of water called the continental shelf + continental slope… really cool if you have a minute to spare!
