The pic shows 2 resource outcrops. They are hanging on thin strip of 'cliff' inside the map itself. Basically, a glitched/removed part of game world that had the resources spawned in by algorithm and is not normally reachable. I'm just abusing the streaming bug in game to get through the map before it loads. Alas, there are spots even my awesome godlike powers cannot get me into, eg when drillable deposit spawns into unremovable rock.

I think my biggest issue with both games is by the time you get most of the real goodies and start getting a decent base going, you've finished the game. And then after that all you do is build more base and explore some nooks you haven't been to yet.
