Note that the laser cutter is kind of optional. There are 6 PPU fragments, 3 fragments in the wreck in Lilypads, 2 in the wreck close to Delta, 1 in the wreck on top of Deep Purple Vents. You can obtain the PPU without using the laser cutter as three fragments are free.
