I asume you are in a test world with no context at all. All you have access for is one feature (like some crafting systems for example) and you have to test this system and give feedback.

I don't know how that works of course, since I'm not a playtester myself, just making assumptions

typically active illumination of some kind is pair with image intensification as you can only intensify if there are some photons, so for instance of absolutely zero natural light, some active illumination of some kind is required, whether or not in VIS or NIR

it is also just as important to remember that in subnauticas setting it is likely the effectiveness of image intensification power increases by magnitudes of several dozens, things such as autogating, autogain and other QOL features are all additionally subject to significant increases in their capabilities

I'm fine with both an unadded idea being used as well as an unadded design being used. and i also love it it when completely new things are added. basically i love everything that isnt just a reuse of previous things, both designs and other stuff like behaviours (such as a creature just swimming around and going to the player to kill it by biting). SN2 as far as we have seen is basically all new things both design-wise and behaviour-wise and its all looking so promising
