Scrolling through all this fan art reminded me of when I was 12 and got super inspired by games like Subnautica and Half-Life and tried making my own game. Didn’t get far, though — my computer could barely handle a basic walking mechanic. Even with no graphics (except the character itself) and no map, Unity kept crashing. 💀
Before that, when I was 11, I had already made a simple 2D game in Unity, so at 12, I wanted to raise the bar and go 3D.

Now I’m 16 and getting ready to graduate high school, so I barely have a second to spare for projects like that. I’m also preparing for national math, physics, and economics olympiads. So, If I had a solid PC and free time, I’d totally be working on game dev as a hobby.

By the way, I’m from Ukraine, and the war has made things way harder with studying, sports, and in general.

Rendered and un-rendered 3d model of some pokeballs I've been making in school over the last few days

Something random but funny to me, is that the ultra ball, a Pokéball with no parts being raised, no dynamic feature other then a yellow H on it, was the hardest to make because of that H, the texture would just not work with me properly, I most likely did something very wrong while making the texture/placing the texture but it looks good enough for me

I only started at this school in September, and I only go to the computer place 2 days a week, so I'm still a beginner

uv-unwrapping can be difficult to get right if you don't set up your model properly

The model is really simple, the regular Pokéball is made up of literally just 1 sphere and 3 cylinders, very basic shapes with very little editing done to them

I just selected the top half of the sphere and added the texture then changed the positioning and orientation til it looked the best it could be

Legs of the H are kinda bent and I doubt it's truly in the middle but I like it so until I find a way to fix it, I'm leaving it like that

For two days you are doing really good, if I can offer you some advice I would recommend using less saturated colors, and something that helped me is realising that instead of doing an outline and filling it in, doing a silhouette makes the sprite feel more natural

it's much easier to do if you use a larger brush, e.g this size

I also recommend using Lospec for just general ideas and palettes, it also has some really good tutorials: https://lospec.com
