Thank you! I call this biome the Past Echos Biome, it’s the Elysian Zone’s Lost River so to speak. It’s based off the concept of opalized fossils. Fossilized spines and maws of long extinct leviathan lifeforms weave in and out of the cave walls, joined by a long extinct species of ammonite-like animals that were drawn to the fallen bodies a long time ago like a whale fall, only to also die to whatever poison killed the leviathans.

I had an idea for a dark biome that's a large cave. On all of the rock walls there is a special kind of bioluminescent moss/lichen/hydroid (looking similar to an anemone) that glows when anything touches it, and predators use this to their advantage by rubbing against the hydroid in order to attract prey, and while doing so, the moss eats micro organisms off of the predator as a sort of symbiotic relationship.

Ohhhhhh!!!! I love that, symbiotic relationships are so fun and intriguing

That’s on my wish list for the next Subnautica game truly, just more of the creatures interacting with each other

I am still iffy about why prey that evolved down there would still be attracted to light if it means certain death, but I am thinking more of going with the idea that fish that happen to swim into those caves and arent adapted to that enviornment are the main prey

or maybe that was somewhere else

Might I suggest: firefly answer, fireflies use their lights to communicate and signal mating intentions, so maybe the fish glow too and see the lights and think they are flashes from their own kind and thus are safe/possible mates

There is also a species of firefly that will mimic the flashing of a different species, tricking the males of said species into thinking they are a female wanting to mate, and it’s a trap- the trickster firefly has every intention on eating the other firefly
