Base building is common in mushroom since the fauna is passive and not aggressive, at the end of the northwestern mushroom forest in the dunes that has a big crater and a reaper patrolling it, I came across it when I was searching for shale outcrops and it seems to be aggressive if you go too near it, the border itself is safe imo
