port forwarding isn't difficult, it's just extra effort and time put in to understanding that you're opening one of your computer's ports to incoming traffic so that external machines can access that port

I highly recommend it. When you use the scanner room to find a resource, the HUD chip allows you to see where the resources are after leaving the scanner room. It will save you hours when farming for resources.

I've put over a thousand hours into both Subnautica and Below Zero and I believe that the Scanner HUD chip is the most powerful item in either game.

You get the blueprints as soon as you get a scanner room

Also, Shale deposits sometimes drop lithium.

They aren't. Collisions when they exist only work one way.

Also if you don't make them flee they'll try to come back in bounds on their own, because they have a behavior that makes them go toward a leash position.

There is just a priority system, moving toward the leash is not necessary high priority at time.

Here's a nice tip for farming plants: if it has green background in inventory, it can be planted in dry environment. If it has purple background, it can be planted underwater. If it has blue background, it cannot be planted.
