I like solar panels but I recommend always combine sources. My favorite ist bio reactor with solar on surface biomes and bio reactor and thermal plant in underground or deeper biomes.
Best fuel for bio reactores are fish precisely the occulus. You can provide an infinite source in an alien containment.

Some like for later the nuclear reactor but I can't stand their noise they are very loud and not as convenient as bio reactors because you have to collect their fuel.
