Pretty much immediately. You need somewhere to store your stuff and the lifepod container is woefully inadequate.

What I usually wind up doing is building a small base in the shallows consisting of a few X compartments until I have enough resources to build a couple of vehicles, then I pack everything into the Seamoth and relocate to the border between the western Grassy Plateaus and Kelp Forest, where I build a proper habitat

yes, in that its the game doing unintended things
unfortunately its just gonna happen. when you get far enough away from things they start unloading and depending on a couple things they may fall through the ground when unloading or loading back in. only loose objects do it, which makes it a little better since most of the time a resource is static when its out in the world
if you find something loose that you want or need you should probably make room for it because it can just fall through the ground

So, I'm playing Subnautica again, still love it but somethings seems different, is it just me or is the Zen-like Aspect of the game gone, in the sense, that the creatures seem extremely aggressive. In my recollection, they behaved like usual wild animals, when you come too close, they attack, some were always a bit aggressive but now, it seems, as the whole vibe is somehow changed or did I just get older? I remember Subnautica not as a video game but as something extremely special, a world to immerse yourself in, where the typical video game factors, like challenging enemies as an inherent game play element weren't distinct, now it seems, like it became just a bit more like a typical video game.
