You can find them in shale outcrops, or just existing as lithium deposits in biomes like the mushroom forest (North eastern and north western) and the mountain island. (They're found in deeper biomes too but I suggest these as they are relatively safer and easier to access early on.
Personally, I suggest you head to the mountain island, just swim in the north direction, if you dont know where north is you can use the Aurora as a reference since it lies in the east direction. Or you can watch this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i06jpEVjPXs
You find shale countcrops inside the island's caves so just walk on up there and explore the island.

I'm coming straight to this Discord because I had a smol bug causing a MAJOR issue, so I wonder if the community could give an answer first.
Here's what happened : I was exploring an Architects cave on foot, with oxygen and stuff, during my Extreme game (so I can't respawn).
Then a fish did noclip into the cave, SWIMMING to me in the air, and so it ATE ME.
I mean, this is just a bug ok, but as it is an Extreme mode, I've lost a dozen hours for no reason, so I don't want to launch the game again. My frustration is biggg.
Do you guys know if there is some way to recover this auto-deleted save, please ? Anything ?

If you mean the lithium you can find inside the cave on ||mountain island|| I’m pretty confident there’s far more lithium in both mushroom forests. Probably far more even in nw mushroom forest itself. Because I’ve filled well over a large locker with lithium, probably there’s 2 large locker’s worth and then some.

So while I’m not debating the value of gathering resources from the caves at ||mountain island, since you will go there eventually for exploring the QEP||, you can get many resources there not just lithium but lead and diamonds iirc, still you can get a lot of more lithium by going to mushroom forests, the nw one in particular.
