There is a way to know where you are on console.

There is a cut item, giving you a signal on the origin when equipped. With it, and with the compass, you can deduce your coordinates.

Because you know the cardinality when looking at the origin point, you know your depth and you know the distance from the origin.

So it isn't a sextant, but it's close.

Honestly, valid. did the same for my first playthrough tho i did force myself to encounter reaper leviathans on purpose just cuz. But for the most part I just looked up the locations I needed to go to, just to finish the game

|| this was with my cyclops and basically every time they attacked me I got the glitch where they don’t do damage, and I went straight from lost river to lava zone, didn’t need to go back cause I really made my cyclops a mobile base making sure it had every material on it (especially the biome specific like both corals and creep one) ||

I did that a few times, especially on things that I required and was getting a little impatient and having no idea where to go, and the (imo) incredibly vague || alien facility locations you get from the island one, I went southwest really deep, explored all of underwater islands which was horrifying me cause I had no idea what to expect, explored another 10 minutes very slowly and hated it so I searched it because I think I saw something too massive for me to think I was going in the right place ||

Keep in mind theres already only ||3 dragons|| when you wake up, which I believe is not long after the aurora crashes, definitely no where close to long enough for them to starve

PDA implies that the species likely intentionally keeps its population in the single digits in order to keep food levels stable

Also, they aren't nearly close enough to be substantially impacted by the Aurora's arrival.

The only thing I could hypothetically argue is the crash reducing the Reaper population and thereby limiting one of the Sea Dragons food sources.

Bc if you look at all the entrances to the lost river, none are really large enough for a sea dragon to consistently leave and return with a spazzing out reaper in tow

Its just too early during the events of the game for that impact to be seen

I don't think using map making as a probable cause makes much sense when that tends to be more important that the PDA lore (As much as I love them)
