Idk if it's just me, but I find myself roaming the most dangerous areas in the game on purpose after completing the game. Maybe I'm trying to emulate the feeling I had when exploring the map before, not knowing if a biome was dangerous or not. I wish in Subnautica 2 there's some chance of creepy creatures going into "safe" biomes.

Flares can be used to distract medium sized threats, the pathfinder tool can be used well to get out of cave systems. Such as the mushroom forest caves or jelly shrooms. The grav trap is basically a auto fisher. Catching tons of fish uf put in the right spot. And the air bladder for ascending quickly or needing just a few more seconds of oxygen

I used it inside both the giant hollow mushroom forest trees, because they are very twisty and easy to get turned around and drown inside. Plus they helped me memorize the way inside them both.
I’ve also used the pathfinder tool inside a few of the very large wrecks, but less so. I’ve also used piping to bring oxygen into wrecks to give me more time to explore and memorize my way, that’s another possibility. Both these exploratory options were things I used many, many years ago but were valid approaches to balance risk of drowning with exploration and long-term memorization
