Finally online 2 weeks sale 🔥
It goes more into the direction of foley recordings or for the zoom in i could imagine short swishes or swooshes..
Thank you very much! I was fumbling around a bunch of different sound effects trying to find a very specific one but it seems like taking a short swish and tweaking it is best. It's my first time doing anything related to sound or music so kinda lost
Hehe no problem ✌️
you guys got to check out this piano. this is really what it sounds like. i feel like im playing a real piano again
that's a good one
I personally like pianoteq more
I got the bechstein piano that they have to sound and play mostly exactly like the piano I always played on in recitals
but the grandeur is pretty good too
do you have the pro version
of pianoteq? no, I have pianoteq stage
oh ok
ther'es no real difference between them aside from pro having more packs you can have by default
which you can always buy packs seperately
listening to the bechstein rn
Made some nice piano music :)
example of something recent I played with pianoteq
granted I haven't practiced in years, so I'm pretty sloppy now, but I could definitely do better if I practiced more
it's physically modelled, so it's synthesized on the fly
means it's stupidly small storage-wise, but also it emulates stuff like the sound hte hammers make a lot better than some sampled libraries
I asbolutely love it
wow love it. reminds me of bach’s Air on G
they've also got more than just pianos, they've got a really nice modelled classical guitar, they've got a ton of modelled historical pianos like this J schantz pianoforte(older playing of mine)
seriously one of my favorite plugins to date
the bechstein sounds a lot more like a concert grand.
it has the sharper profile
yeah, the bechstein is definitely a concert grand
I might have to take a look at Pianoteq
i specifically chose the grandeur because it sounded soft and cool temperature yet crystal clear. not like a warm piano
I made this using Addictive Keys by XLN
from what I remember, the steinway pianos in pianoteq are closer to that sound
let me export something with it
there’s just something about it that sounds different than the other pianos
it is definitely a unique sound
very bright but also soft
I have it but I don't use it often
A lot of space...
Pianoteq sounded cool for me tbh, especially when you tweak it around
space is awesome
https://youtu.be/YXqanb3EOyc?t=517
Check this one out, VSL makes the most realistic pianos I've heard and smokes the competiton
it’s really powerful
i like it
I used a Kontakt library from production voices before. It shares the second place with pianoteq imo
it's good, but you can get just as good of a sound imo at not almost 100gb lmao
100gb for a piano library is an insane amount of storage
to be fair it's sampled with like 8 mic positions it looks like, and it does sound really good
Hans Zimmer piano is half a terabyte
That's bullshit but 100gb is fine imo
if i want a stronger piano with more depth i’ll go for the VSL. for my specific style of music the grandeur fits perfectly. i think the pianoteq sounds too bright and is more suited for classical performance music
I'm aware, and I think it's insane for how not as good it sounds
Since piano is such an intimate instrument
Yeah that's spitfire being spitfire, or should I say midfire heh
But the vsl one is legit awesome
that wasn't a diss at vsl either btw, I love them, I love their libraries
I'm rocking vsl special edition as most of my orchestral sound, they're great
That's just one VSL piano, they got more
it does sound awesome, I might pick it up
I was dissapointed in the one in special edition
though I'm good with pianoteq as my main piano library for a while, it's everything I want in a piano plugin
I love pianoteq because it can do so much more than piano sounds
yeah!
And individual tuning systems
it's got amazing modelled mallets, classical guitar, some really nice electric pianos
and even a frickin synth now apparnetly??
Ohh sounds sick
I tried the demo version of it and it sounds awesome
reminds me of a lot of old roland analog synths like the juno
i’m assuming these are all sub $200?
yes
pianoteq itself(for stage at least) is about 120, but each pack is about 40-50$
Decent synth
Tho the only synth I care about these days is the zebra 3 beta
in one vst?
yeah
haven't heard of htis one, I'll check it out
insane
I'm not really into synth sounds that much outside of what is in my mx49 and like the korg triton and whatnot
what you use for strings
VSL special edition 1
though I am looking into synchron prime orchestra strings since they sound a little better with their legato
i heard it was good
oh it is
i use CSS
this is almost entirely vsl, the only thing that's not is the flute runs, those come form EastWest's symphonic orchestra plugin
Every other preset makes my jaw drop. I legit never experienced something like this before. Zebra 2 is over a decade old so Urs the developer put a lot of time and love into this product. The beta is free and the last beta version dropped a few days ago with a neat dark mode GUI
my entire orchestral set is a mix of VSL, EastWest, and some physically modelled plugins for some things like SWAM violin for the violin and pianoteq for pianos and classical guitar
VSL is the majority of my soundset with EastWest mostly being percussion and some prerendered phrases
didn’t like SWAM personally
I only really like SWAM's violin, everything else of theirs sounds kinda too synthesized for my tastes
and the violin plugin definitely does take a bit to get used to
but oh my god once you ghet used to how it works, it's fantastic
found that mic position and space were important to me
These technologies improve a lot over the years so now they might be better
Now
Idk haven't looked into SWAM for years
I remember Arturias synths weren't that great a decade ago but now they're killer
i’m relatively new to music so idk what half these libraries are
with version 3 it's so much better than version 2
again, takes a while to get used to hwo it works, but once you do it can sound really really nice
thsi is it in my main template where I have mic positions, a space, etc. already set up
i think it sounds very midi-like
Sounds aight but I still prefer Joshua bells kontakt library for solo violin
Notoriously hard instrument to get right
LOZ theme bro knows ball
fair enough
it definitely sounds less so in a mix, but I can see this argument
Maybe I should give SWAM another chance now that I've bought a breath controller 🤔 thanks for reminding me
lemme see if I can find a good example of something I did with violin in it
this should serve as a good example
this was before I got VSL, so it's not quite what it would sound like now, I don't think I have an example using vsl that uses swam violin as well right now
violin comes in around 0:30
Awesome
wow that's an awful mix
bruh
it’s not your fault it’s SWAM
I'm talking about everything else other than the violin
i actually think your string sounds bad
blame SWAM
that's a possibility, I was using an old library from like 2003 at that point, so that would check out
okay you know hwat I'm redoing that
i’m a SWAM hater
CSS is just better bro
that does sound nice
CHUNKED my wallet
$400
😭
for how often i use it... it wasnt worth
for epic orchestra, Audio Imperia Nucleus is a nice compact one
if you have space then Sonuscore The Orchestra Complete 2 is good
this one is mostly sonuscore
tbf swam violin is the first actually decent violin I've used
before I was using the one inside eastwest's symphonic orchestra which doesn't even have true legato, it's scripted, and no crossfading whatsoever, just expression(volume) control
dude.
you're good at automating
but the vst is so ba
bad
it was actually quite good when it came out
imagien what you could do with a better one
-# in 2003
yeah. that's older than me
its 2026
why are we using 2003 vsts
is "I'm broke and that was an old plugin I had for years" a valid answer? x3
i think 20 years is pushing it
nah but in all seriousness I like using old plugins
there's something about them that is so fun to use
then i cant argue with that
tbf it's still sold, and it's constantly being updated
it's just that the sounds themselves are from 2003
so you have been doing music how long?
been playing piano since I was 8(I'm 23, so that's 15 years? well on and off anyway), and doing actual composition since like 2015 ish
only started doing freelance stuff around 2021 though
when you said the sounds were from 2003 i thought you made music then and were super old lol
no, no
I was born like a year before this library came out
was born after the library came out
that's like lost tech to me
ancient artifact
raised in FL Studio
it's cool how you're doing music for work
i dont have that kind of confidence
and i have no idea how its profitable
i usually take hours
i'd make mroe money from a part-time than from a commission that takes me 8 hours
my first commission i spent 8 hours for a $15 comm
that's why you charge something like 150$ per minute of audio
tbf it takes me a lot quicker to finish work than 8 hours, it takes me about 3-4 hours for a minute's worth of audio depending on what I'm doing
like, this that I did for a demo to get onto a project took me less than an hour
obviously very unfinished
and very temporary insturments too
all of these come from my mx49, I use that thing all the time for a quick sketch since it's just a bunch of bread and butter sounds in a small keyboard I can fit on my desk
somethign that I also do is I don't manually sequence things by hand, I typically play it out first then quantize it
so it's very quick to get little concepts like this out
something i've been working the past couple days
i do that as well. the length from 1 to 2 minutes increases exponentially for me. since i mostly make orchestra, i also have to spend hours on realism and good sound. doesn’t help that im a perfectionist either. so 1:30 usually can take 8+ hours
not accounting for trying to figure out where to develop
that's fair
do you have a midi controller you use, or is it all manual automation?
I used to do manual automation years ago and just gave up and leaned into the quantized "midi" sound cause it sounded good to me anyway
manual
oof yeah that's super time consuming
your style is cool
whole lotta bs going on and mix is crisp
anyone have suggestions for vsts for realistic like orchestra instruments
They aren't built for the same purpose but generally yes
One is physically modeled and functions like a violin. The other only does what is sampled but is not painful to use
Performance samples, musicalsampling. If you are able to deal with the bass ackwards recording quality of cinematic studio series it's a good choice. Personally I can't. If you lean into what it sounds like then it's not so troublesome.
There's also Spitfire Symphony Orchestra, it tonally sounds great however the quality of sampling yields much to be desired. It's hard carried by it's excellent tone which is the main selling point really
thanks bro
CSSeries still lacks percussion. To fill in for that i recommend lineage perc or cineperc. Since those will match close enough
Im working on an rpg thats supposed to start off seeming rather generic and retro, do these seem ok while keeping that stated asthetic?
I still stand by VSL's stuff
cinnesamples stuff is nice too, though I found them to be a little limited
VSL, Spitfire, Orchestral Tools, ProjectSAM... there are so many companies that make realistic orchestra
Something like east west's subscription is good if you wanna start on a budget
I'm not a fan of vst effects subscriptions but for vst instruments it's legit
I'm not a huge fan of eastwest for the purpose of realistic orchestra
their hollywood orchestra is kinda meh for how expensive it is compared to other libraries
it's fine, it's tolerable, and with composer cloud it's pretty decent value, but idk
I love their older libraries, there's just some sound to symphonic orchestra or Ra that just can't be replicated as well
Berlin orchestra is good for me
Also spitfire chamber strings and spitfire symphony orchestra is good too
Btw, is there a piano library that sounds good for both epic stuff and emotional stuff?
A kontakt library*
I only have chroma grand piano rn :/
Swam is good if you need more control. But uhh i hate the mix. It's sounds bad
But the swam trumpet sounds good
ong i hate how it sounds
With good mixing and reverb
Yeah
Swam is more suited to compositions for songs that may not require the high quality of a real orchestra.
It's just depends on the situation
Thanks
I'll look into it
Leap motion and seaboards are popular combos for these heavily modelled instruments. You get the most mileage from a leap motion. I've never used a seaboard but it does have impressive tech from the looks of it.
I heard they are not that great the keys feel too mushy
But the Osmose keyboard looks really cool
Generally anything MPE is probably good for this task
I would imagine they feel like mush since you can slide up and down the keys and even have bad intonation. On a keyboard
How cursed
And that they are basically just rubber bubbles?
The only practical purpose I see from it honestly is physically modelled complex instruments, like SWAM
It's a large amount of effort considering the output in best case is usually like 80% there lol. I guess some people are interested in learning this niche skill still
I heard SWAM was working on a SynthV kind of addition to generate takes that sound good. SWAM has all the modelling it needs to sound good but it's a herculean task to get it to sound like a person would play it
I think the appeal of swam for me at least is that it's only like 120$ and honestly even with the bare minimum of programming it sounds better than a lot of libraries at that price point, at least last I checked(which to be fair was years ago when swam was relatively new, and not that great yet)
not sure what other libraries are around the same price point now
plus the fact that it doesn't take up gigabytes worth of storage when at the time I got it I barely had a 256gb drive to hold my main orchestral library at the time(eastwest symphonic orhcestra)
The issues are that it's highly sensitive to the parameters. But more importantly it has zero room whatsoever, because it is synthesized. And shoving a whole modelled orchestra into a fake room doesn't sound good at all. Using a couple modelled things along with libraries recorded in real rooms the issue is nullified. But solely relying on them for the purpose of orchestral is a recipe for disaster because half of the sound from this aspect is the room itself. Of which there isn't when its modeled.
Instead of just playing and interval and what you hear is what you get (hopefully something good, usually it isn't because most developers kind of suck lol), SWAM nudges the user to attempt to find the best way to make a phrase sound like it makes sense. A double edged sword, as it takes much more time to make a simple phrase sound nice. But on the upside, it does anything the user asks of it.
There is a time and place for modelled instruments in the same way there is for samples. Specifically to make orchestra do the orchestra thing, room is an essential part of it. And no, slapping reverb on everything cannot fix that. This is an predicament still to this day that has yet to be solved. The rule of thumb is, the more things you shove into the fake space in an effort to make it sound like a space, the more uncanny it becomes. Which is why using a few things that aren't really in a space is easy to get away with.
Passage too complex for samples? Well, time to hire some players or make modelled instruments do the part correctly.
Without the ugly head of spatial issues showing their teeth and being able to rely on the dry tone it's easy to fit into other varieties of music. As other music does not rely so heavily on the acoustics of a space
Maybe if you're using something like this https://go.thomwettstein.com/pre-delay-calculator
You might get modeled instruments close enough to reality in addition to using decent algorithms like liquidsonics stuff and good true stereo IRs?
Because reverbs differ so vastly maybe you didn't use the right ones when doing your experiments
And the technology improves constantly. I think that website is really cool for creating your own spaces, you can get the early reflection IRs as seperate downloads so the lates can come from a reverb plugin
Now I'm interested too how that would sound 😹
It's better than classic reverb but it doesn't work, it's not magic. The issue is there is no actual acoustics to work off of. The way the instruments project into the fake space is the reason why the fake spaces sound weird. There are many many plugins that exist which are much more advanced in spatial positioning and direction. But they all succumb to Reverbitus when every instrument gets shoved in the fake room. It's this weird plastic-y tone that remains. Part of it is due to how sterile the output resolves the input. It's very static with little randomness.
I really wish there was a proper solution to this problem that sounded good no matter what. But there isn't still. Instead time and resources is wasted on pointless things like Suno.
A starting point for IR based positonal reverb, is first the IR must exist within every possible location and direction for the seating. This is accounted for in the majority of advanced IR positional reverbs already. It makes a huge difference compared to just slapping on any old IR sample into a convolver.
Shoving a sound into classic reverb style stuff is only the most basic way. But honestly will sound better than one IR sample alone of a generic sweep in a space, because most convolvers output a completely static response while algorithmic ones are random most of the time.
It's less so that I "havent found the right one" and more so it simply doesn't work good enough yet because there isn't a developer yet with both the balls and resources to dedicate to such a specific thing. When the current available solution is just using libraries already recorded in actual rooms and adding some generic reverb to blend them together a bit more
Smaller room emulation isn't so bad to get by with but big roomy rooms, that's where it sounds really bad really quick.
of course, that should be a given xP
however, one or 2 modelled instruments mixed with mostly sampled stuff in my case sounds perfectly fine, even with a virtual space
I have a bus set up with subtle room reverb(alongside swam's own room simulation added in v3), and a hall verb on the master track, and that gives me just enough control to give them enough body to mix well with other sampled instruments
hell I've even mixed swam violin with a recording of an actual clarinet from a friend of mine and it sounded fine
when I said I prefer it, that did not mean I use a modelled orchestra, nor do I think that's a good idea to do regardless
it's also not the only violin I have in my main template, it's just the one I use the most because it happens to be the most advanced one I have at the moment
at the end of the day, it works for me and I like it and that's all that matters
That makes a lot of sense, perhaps one should find a way to replicate the sound projection pattern of all the orchestral instruments? Sounds like a challenge tho
Test beat
cAN I GET AS MANY TIPS AS possible please
i want to learn as many skills as possible now i am learning music
Its my first time making music
Ive never done this before
kick, snare and hi-hat rhythm sounds good! the rest seems to be rhythmically jarring like the cymbal and the toms though, also the drum selection do sound very "default".
It's pretty good
Unfortunately I'm not a mathematician nor DSP developer 😅
Yeah, huge market niche if you ask me and perhaps one where AI might be helpful to find a solution
Honestly yes, I am still dying to get my hands on some sort of LLM room simulator. Something that will eat a piece of audio, and make it sound like it's in a location in a room with multiple microphone perspectives
A method that isn't really used much these days is sometimes people would project a sound into a mic'd up room and use that as the "reverb". As you can imagine it's kind of fallen out of favour because you're dedicating a whole ass room to an incredibly specific thing when advanced IR based positional reverbs will get a similar result since it's essentially doing that exact thing.
Reamping an orchestra 😹
This is hilarious but VSL actually did this. But even worse. The re-amped their old libraries (recorded in the dryest room ever created, no joke) and shoved all the samples through their new room.
I really don't know how VSL has all the money for this. I was told they are government funded or something along those lines. Because they're not exactly the most popular developers these days but they constantly ship out these massive libraries all of the time. And also their absolutely massive new sound stage they built some years ago. Seriously that room is incredibly huge.
I believe they call the stuff they resampled through their room "Synchron-ized"
Ohh I see
Thank you plat, you're a really knowledgeable person
I know a thing or two!!
makes sense to why the VI version and the synchron-ized version of the studio special editions sound slightly different to one another
honestly I'd love to try to track down the physical copies of the old gigasampler versions, that'd be fun to mess around with
licensing might be a pain though, I don't remember if those had drm
probably did
Any thoughts
How ethereal it sounds
Does it sound like this?
https://youtu.be/319hTECL4KE?si=AixLuSidfP0-zd33
Wym they are not the most popular high end composers often love them
And they have that freaking beautiful muted trumpet that I want so much. Their brass is insane
Yeah a bit. They mixed those choirs like a capella music, think of pentatonix
Maybe layered with other instruments like a synth. Listening through my smartphone so I can't tell for certain
I think it has synth pads
not the most popular doesn't mean people don't still use their libraries lol
it just means it's not as often picked up by people getting into orchestral stuff(which is true, I see people picking up spitfire stuff or css over vsl nowadays)
plat's right with them not being as popular as they were
Not as many as you are lead to believe. That's their marketing kicking in
Never said nobody used them though but they are nowhere near as prominent as they were, say about 20 years ago
VSL goes wayyyy back.
EWQL and VSL were the heavy hitters in sampling those decades ago. Not so much the case anymore.
They were the innovators of the days past.
They were a bit out of the loop for a while until the last like 5-10 years. Probably from all the reformatting of their stuff and the transition to Synchron instead of the dry as a desert room.
A big reason for many heavy hitter developers libraries being less prominent as they once were these days is being spoiled for choice, and lack of innovation. There are so many sample libraries available but most of them aren't really that different from one another aside from expected things like recording spaces. They are still using the age old sampling techniques and aren't trying to set themselves apart. Some good examples of innovation was Cinematic Studio Series when it first started shipping modules. The libraries are finely tuned, consistency machines with great attacks, releases, and legato sampling. A huge attention to detail. Because of this those libraries have become extremely prominent for their ease of use and high bar of care and quality put into the sampling. For how little marketing was done for the libraries, it really is a marvel how successful it became just by doing something really really well.
Instead of before where it was like "Yo, we got Cinematic Strings 1, LASS, and Hollywood Strings, and some old VSL & EWQL stuff. Sorry nothing else." Now, there are so many string libraries that are all so samey it's completely spread the market and lowered all the prices. Opening up affordability and choice of tone and usage cases for average hobbyists.
yup!
they go back to the early 2000s with orchestral cube being their big thing back then
before that you mostly had roland's orchestral srjv cards and stuff like Advance Orchestra and Sonic Implants symphonic collection in the early to late 90s
heck I think VSL did have some small sample cds before orchestral cube
Sure. I guess your wording made sense. I just think it's misleading to say they have no money. I think all composers with a decent budget own at least something from VSL. Also their DAW is handy for multiple machines setup!
I did find a free alternative tho, but I heard it's a bit jankier haha
Not sure if they are government funded or not but I think they do make money especially with synchron brass and VEPRO I think it's called?
https://audiogridder.com/ this one
Well that's just for the offloading of plugins
I tried running audiogridder recently with a spare laptop but didn't work. No idea what the issue was since I'm not a network pro 😒
It would be so great for acustica plugins
uhm sad to hear. Yeah I plan to test it this weekend. If I could offload a chunk of my biggest template that would be cool so my main machine runs quieter
guess what I'm trying to make
I think I made the snare too powerful
Guys Im making sm muSick and idk if tracks like these are suitable for any games and if they sound good at all? Or mb Im kinda wasting my time
I think the instruments sound kinda disconnected from eachother most of the time, like they’re not part of the same song. And I dislike the composition for the instrument that isn’t the drums or the background synth. But that being said I don’t think you’re wasting your time. If it’s something you care about then you should keep making music, you can always improve
Are Spotify links allowed in here?
if it's ur own stuff I suspect #show-off-your-work would be the right place
Yeah it is thanks🤘
bonehurtingjuice2769 thanked amepulses
You don't say
since we were having a bit of discussion of physical modelling earlier, I wanted to share this
it's crazy that this library at this point is almost 20 years old(2009, discontinued in 2018 after the whole samplemodeling/acousticmodeling split), running on the predecessor to the swam engine(technically it's not fully physically modelled, more modelled from shorter samples if I understand correctly?), and still sounds this good
when programmed right, it's really nice, I don't think this is the best it can possibly sound but it's just quick playing anyway, and it sounds nice enough already
(disclaimer, the full track is very unmixed right now, I'm still working on it, but it's a very good show of how it can sound in a mix)
I have a real-time audio stretching app I've been working on for the last year. For real - it's done - I'm ready to upload. But... I need to provide some demo audio as part of it, and this is where I'm stuck. Should I play the guitar & drums & sing a few snippets? Should I ask musicians if they would like to privide small "Windows 95"-esque 'complex moments' of audio? Should I steal them from commerical audio? [prolly not the last one].
I would greatly appreciate any and all thoughts about what "demo" audio I can ship - it will sound completely and utterly different to the input.
Yeah, Sample Modeling hence the name models from samples. So the pool of samples is pretty small the rest of the "magic do everything juice" is in the scripting. They use the samples for the base tones and then stitch it all together with a bunch of magic sauce to emulate the characteristics of the instrument for other aspects
SWAM follows more of a synthesis approach. They still use some samples but an even tinier pool and much more complex ways
ah okay
still sounds amazing for being from 2009 imo
Yeah they really cooked with their brass
SM strings pretty poopy though. SWAM does that a lot better
I wish they would fix it but I don't think they will
SM Strings sounds a lot more like a synthesizer despite the heavy reliance on samples 😂
damn
Made some 8-bit music. Id love feedback if you guys have any!
(finally it sends lmao)
the last one reminds me of dragon quest 1 a bit! I think they sound nice
just looked up the demos and yeah your'e right
wonder how they messed that up that badly
I guess that approach doesn't work very well with strings.
The solo strings are FINE in it. Like, they're okay. SWAM way better though. Still I'd rather just hire some real players for strings anyway
Single performers aren't that hard to get ahold of and are often very affordable
Third draft for the home song, check it out
It's far from finished
Though the structure is there
that's true
I've thought about trying to track down someone for solo strings and just using swam as a mockup
you definitely need real players for some styles of music especially more faster bits where playing has to be blurred for example too, but surprisingly metropolis ark 4 has blurred staccatos
but you have to have like 10 gazillion different libraries to do like that "exact" type of piece you want
if it includes many different playing styles usually not present in libraries
a really good dry silksong-ish sound with fast sections also sounds a bit strange with libraries
it depends too much, but you can do magic with like one section recorded for real and rest with libraries, like solos mixed with backing using libraries
Even in non orchestral music it's such a good trick to not only use ITB stuff but record yourself playing real instruments even if it's a simple shaker, it brings in so much realism and glue
atmosphere.
iron lung?
i hate my laptop speaker for sounding shittier than my mixing earbuds
(loud warning btw, 0db peak and -4.7 lufs-m)
I got a brand new choir plugin (wip)
Sounds good. Real guitar or plugin?
Kontakt libraries used:
Spitfire Symphony Orchestra
8dio lacrimosa choir
8dio Action Tools Equinox
It's a plugin
Stumbled upon an old project
oh wait which one?
Shreddage hydra
Ahh that's good library
Sounds good too.
Sorry if I'm being a little paranoid, I do want to share my music, but I'm scared someone will steal it
Don't worry, nobody is forcing you to upload 👍
What software do you use?
Can someone make a approx 1 minute rock song like this? (Just for fun, no payment)
update
FL Studio
Oh, yea. It's expensive
Something I made a while ago
hollow knight
how can i make sound effects using fl studio?
for something like a gau-8 avenger or m61 vulcan
ooh i just can feel the shreddage hydra sample inside me
oh wait or is it shreddage argent?
I rescored Dread Delusion's Clockwork Kingdom :D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL88Ixo5WbA
made this rival theme (wip), have to add 1 or 2 more sections ...:D
hevvy
Very atmospheric. What synths did you use?
all by me in vital
Woow
maybe like one patch from spitfire labs
you're good at sound design huh
nice work
ty!
Hello, I would like to present to your attention my project called ASTROTERRA. It contains various quantum-magical rhythms with a different sound. You can watch it here: https://open.spotify.com/album/0qB8tAnVBQhmHwDBYLIRp3?si=zTYfYMHXTJWzp_-u7GaCwg
oooh sounds epic! what choir vst do you use?
Lacrimosa choir
nicee
rythm guitar is a layering of Odin III and appex trailer modern guitar (but lead is hydra yea)
AirCon 2026 is right around the corner, Game Audio Boston is once again hosting an in-person meetup at Flat Top Johnny's in Cambridge, MA on May 24th (5-8 PM) to cap off the event! We'd love to see some familiar faces there and chat about your AirCon highlights, talk shop, and just have a good time! Note that the venue is 21+.

I think
Finally finished this song
What do y'all think?
Nice sounds foresty!
Maybe some of the notes are not on time? Did you record the melodies by hand? In that case it can be good to quantize them (move them more on time). Most DAWs have a feature that does this easily.
Nice percussion. Song reminds me of Pokémon DPP.
some interesting snippets i looped from a larger song i did.
Heya, I've made this song recently. I was going for a video game boss sort of vibe. I'd be really nice to get some critique on it to see where I could improve :]

i think the full song will give a different vibe. its about taking lsd and fighting hordes of giant spiders with a flamethrower, and then the ambient end section is for walking through all the burned remains. for a game im making. it gets very very loud, very very quickly
very classy. makes me want to put on a suit and chuckle
I absolutely love this. It has somewhat of a metroid vibe in some sections, and it goes so damn hard. might i ask what synths you used for this?
also, wanted to share this. this track for a metal record i put together that has a narrative. this track goes with a part where the main character character transforms into a cursed knight by the power of the moon, and its heavily orchestral.
this is mostly a ginormous melting pot of effects, but the original synths were mostly absynth 6 and reaktor blocks submotion/xy , with a lot of zero g samples from his old cds layerd over them. I do a lot of audio processing solely in audacity so there's a few experimental loops in there that are made from random voice recordings and yelps.
this is really cool, i really like the part after 3:10 when that lush chord fills all the empty space, reminds me of my favorite parts of halo reach's soundtrack.
oh hell yeah, zero g makes some fantastic stuff. if i remember correctly, they made some of the samples used in SH2. but the layering is fantastic. ive found that it takes quite a bit of experimenting to find sounds that compliment each other and i think you nailed it.
thank you! i try to establish atmosphere with everything i write. gotta evoke those feelings, ya know? lol

here's one of the big ones present at the beginning and end, this one was used in subnautica and a white zombie song as well.
the effects really take it up a notch, since i really wanted it to be extremely overstimulating
piano sketch. might trash this idk
That's kind of the point to be fair, thanks though

oh my god, thats such a cool sample! which pack was that from?

Wow cool synth sounds.
thanks big dawg

The composition is pretty interesting! I wonder if the song could have more fitting instruments. The piano and drums are really good and fits well, so maybe the other instruments could be changed to fit the song better. https://youtu.be/sTXwzSxFVl0?si=NwdP6O9Ck7oOjZ6G This video explains it well. Just my opinion ofc
a retro composition i just made
Just started composing music

Hold on, I'ma listen to these after my appointment
I accidentally made an incredible remix of my own song but oh well

Hi I'm an experienced dev (Godot + traditional) and composer I launch a fiverr service for indie teams who needs music tracks.
I tried to focus on things we actually need, (adaptive, modular tracks and more) on competitive price for content of this quality. Do the services seem good ?
My Fiverr Gig: https://www.fiverr.com/tremisabdoul/compose-a-cinematic-music-for-your-game
Thank for your time mates.
thanks for the nth time grossbeat
This sounds really cool! I've always found it really tough to put this much emphasis on cool motifs and melodies across different sections of the orchestra, you make it look easy! That modulation at 1:12 is super weighty and dramatic, too. Really awesome stuff, super well-made and thought out.
That's Omnia Choir by Native Instruments, right? If you're looking for any sort of easy constructive feedback, that library has some terribly inconsistent sampled legato. You can probably hear from around 0:30 to 0:50 that the choir frequently plays offbeat, cuts itself off, and plays an inconsistent number of voices at varying volumes. You might find that it sounds a little better in this case switching to scripted legato rather than sampled, or maybe even turning off legato entirely, seeing as you're already changing the words for most notes.
Great stuff, again; Really looking forward to hearing whatever you make next.
Pretty cool beat bro
Thank you very much for your feedback, i really appreciate it.
Yeah i'm using Omnia Choir, i never really taken the time to tweak it much since i'm having some lag issues with it, but i'm glad you pointed that out. I thought it was happening because of the lag so i just kind of ignored it. Next time, i'll make the changes you mentioned.
Again, thank you very much, i'm glad you liked it 🙂

You guys have any advice to improve my music?
Improve in what way?
If you're content with it then that's all that matters, no? 😺
Thanks:)

Guys, If you'd like, you can ask me to make a song of your choice, It will help me improve.
It's mainly just for fun and practice
Guys, check out what I wrote.
Make a prog rock song then 😼
I think the tiers are too nebulous. What if someone wants a sparse ambient track but it's 10 hours long and they want constant changes throughout the piece? Isn't it common to calculate the price per minute of music instead of a bulk price per piece because of this very fact? And the difference between standard and premium tier is unclearly defined, what does highly complex and focused on theory mean? You need to be more specific otherwise you'll confuse your potential customers
Thank you i'm grateful that you took time to help me you are the goat
i thought about your feedback and i will completely change all my plans for
- true artistic composition but only on one instrument (useful for open worlds for example)
- immersive tracks made to not disturb the player (most of the tracks made today)
- Themes, trailers and narrative music for memorable lines (main themes, or really high quality ost made to give light to the track itself)
For the price per minute it's wired this is supposed to be possible to change the length of a track by modifying the "30s" on the plan selection not really intuitive tho i might mention it in the description

By the way if the client asks me for a 10 hour long track as you say it does not change the number of days that i have to produce it. I should also ask for special requests in that case
Hello How do One get into Game Audio??
Path?
Do hobby projects, find internships, do game jams, make game with friends, learn through tutorials and guides

I'll try my best
For your information, I'm not familiar with most genres, I'll have to do research before replicating them 😅
I meant something like this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3YmfUETRja0
Prog is very closely tied to vgm, especially all the 90s and 2000s JRPGs you'll hear the influence of stuff like ELPs Tarkus all throughout
Similar with jazz rock aka fusion. A T-Square track was literally the inspiration for the Mario theme
How do we feel about this?
cozy
not much else to say other than it'd work as a menu theme, or lobby theme.
Appreciate it 🙏
I wish I made things like this, but I uhh make horror games lol

Hey, i recently started an applied game design minor on college, and im now taking optional audio classes for that aswell. Each week we need to make a song in a certain theme: the first two are "sleepy" and "melancholy". The tracks attached are my first two tracks! My main issue right now is that i like both tracks but i feel like they are pretty static. I write a progression that constantly plays in the background, and attach a melody to that that also plays for relatively long. When i listen to other tracks from games, i see that each melody is more much dynamic with different instruments responding to each other. Do you guys have any feedback or general tips to make more "dynamic" songs that feel less like each part is just a building block? Im using Reaper
Learn singing and solfege to improve your ability to make melodies via audiation. If your class was good they'd teach you that. It's the most important tool I could think of because it allows you to compose with pen and paper only and you can fake having perfect pitch
Other than that, working through theory books and transcribing + analyzing your favorite music is also a good idea. Practice makes perfect
Maybe a book about musical form or arranging would be helpful if you're feeling like you're pushing blocks in your DAW and the arrangement is not dynamic enough
Thanks! Its a pretty lowkey optional thing thats like 1/ 2 hours in the week, so there is not enough room to teach a lot of foundation stuff, so i will look into the terms you mentioned. A book would definitely be worth to take a look into too

I made this for the first area in the firts game i'm making. Give it a listen, and LMK what you think I could do better
I fw this
Im not really great at making Music, But I think it'll work for the game I want to make
what software do you use to make these? anyone can answer, i'm interested in hearing what others do too
I personally use Fl studio
And I’m not gonna lie, I did pirate mine
But I mostly use the software that’s already in it
is it simple to use? I've been using a low quality free one online (onlinesequencer) because it's really easy to use, but I've been wanting something with more features
I mostly just use sound fonts and samples
It takes some time to adjust and learn the layout, but after some time you will get a hang of it and it will be easier to use.
My first attempt wasn’t the prettiest
Literally any software that can open vst2 and vst3 is possible
The best free one is
Tracktion waveform free
But if you are searching for a simple software, lmms is good, but it can only open vst2 plugins and soundfonts so you're limited to your instruments choices
thanks to both, i'll check them out
trying tracktion first because free
Just went Plugin shopping, and boy I got a shit ton of goodies
All for free
Can I send links to my favourite songs? Just for fun.
Another one from that super bloody hockey game (Super Blood Hockey 2). Definitely agree that these sound like anime themes, been listening to a lot of REVO lately
this seems great so far. Is there any convention of when to use multiple clips on the same track vs just a different track?
convention?
for example i have two piano clips here on the same track. Is that ever useful unless i want to modify one of them to have something different
but if something is different, i could just put it on a different track as well
so im not sure which is the normal way to do it
if you want to modify one of the clips you can just double click on them and modify the notes
if that's what you're asking
what i mean is, what's the purpose of having multiple clips on the same track, instead of just one long clip
(i don't really get what are you trying to say)
oohhh
honestly, idk either. Once you set how long the clips are, you cannot extend them apparently
so to fix it
you either made make a long midi clip first
maybe just make them all the whole length xD
or plan thee melody before writing
yea this works
ok, that sounds good. Thanks for the help, this software is very close to what i'm used to
also, it's great for looping
Tracktion was so cool and refreshing back in the days but it's so outdated. Why would anyone not just use reaper free trial forever if they can't afford it
Yes, I use reaper too
But
It's like winrar, nagware
The DAMN piano roll
Who decided to think that double clicking just for a single note to appear is a good idea
It's good, you just need to set it up properly. My midi editor roll is fine but took a lot of tweaking just like the rest of the program. The only downside with Reaper is it's kinda ass right out of the box
Mouse modifiers. You can change everything.
What
That
I assume you're also a reaper trial user
So how many days you've spent in it
No I've bought it
Oop
2 years or so
Migrated from ableton after a long time of using that DAW
As I've said, check out mouse modifiers in preferences, somewhere there is an option to change the behaviour of the midi editor when clicking and stuff.
Hmmm
Alr
I had to turn reaper upside down to make it work the way I want it
I think that metaphor is good
But anyways, Heklo seems to be enjoying tracktion so far so ig it works for them
yeah, i just wanted one that was simple out of the box, the last thing i used just had everything all on the same "track" and didn't allow for much customization, so the tracktion is 10x better even if it's not the best
it was very messy
Yeah because it's not a DAW. It's a sequencer
And not a very good one in addition to that
how's the audio here? I was stress testing both performance and voice count, I use some tricky virtualization for the skittering of the spiders.
https://youtu.be/RIGGRPHFM38
Yoo bassclefff!
That's super chill.
Sick bass at the ending.
Yoo, thank you!
Holy Orders IV be like
That's pretty nice. If you want it to sound more like GG you can turn down the rhythm guitars a fair bit so the lead guitar can be heard more.
Oh okay, thanks

I thought gear-like might mean metal gear but it was the other gear type game 😆
I just thought I could do something like Holy Orders and did this at like 4am
Changed the synth and added more harpsichord
Some more harpsichord changes and rerecorded a few out of tune parts
what do you guys think of this track❓
i'ts unfinished, but i still wanted some opinion over it
I think it sounds really good! Reminds me a lot of super meat boy especially at the beginning. At the 2:27 loop I think you can add more because the looping gets slightly repetitive. And the 0:32 transition could be a bit better in some way. I know it’s supposed to be a sudden shift but I feel like there could be something making it lead into it better. But those are the only two criticism I can think of, its overall pretty good
tyy
i appreciate your comment
i'll do some changes and share it again
You can @ me when you do if you want, i don’t check this channel much
