Banger
This is another version from that song
It's my old song too (also with flm)
another banger, as usual
Thanks
horikumiya thanked buggzen
For now I have to start getting used to Ableton, my songs are weird after using Ableton
they are very different, yes
why did you switch to ableton?
Because Ableton workflow almost same like flm 😹
And i got new laptop recently
That's why i moved to Ableton
This song was one of my first attempts at Ableton. (I can't make another song like this again for now 😭)
dayum. so many familiar sounds in one song
Yeah, i use random sample from internet for ear candy lol
Completely fine. We love some ear candy here and there
True
Send it again because why not lol
Alright time to sleep
very cozy
Ah fair enough dude, sounds great so far
Can't sleep, sooo..here a generic epic orchestra
And some sound design
ok heres the finished version of the title screen song for my horror game and some in game ambience
good evenning
I made this song today, and I'd like to know something about it, especially regarding its texture and how it would fit into a game
Can someone help me?
Just my attempt at trying to recreate the battle soundtrack from the Genshin Impact Enkanomiya region "Combat under the waves" 😄
Very nice song. I imagine it as a title screen song for a chill, 2d game or maybe loading screen music.
a kinda goofy and silly game
What do you think about this music? My goal was to create a divine, trailer music with fantasy middle age theme
It kinda reminds me of Pokémon music. Its good but i think its a tad bit too fast
trailer music usually starts off pretty tame and calm, building up the instruments and the tension
This is cool, what library?
How to make midi guitar sound real?
Just find a good sounding guitar preset.
Or you can make it sounds like a real guitar by slightly making it less on time and more off grid
I know, it's the basic. I mean the advance stuf like palm mute, strumming up and down, etc
I have odin 3 and I can't really use it because too much articulation 😭
play around with velocity. Real guitars are never fully in sync or exactly the same velocity. You alreeady seem to have a very good guitar sound
Best way is learn how to play a real guitar. Otherwise I guess trial and error, there aren't many options left
Some plugins like ample allow you to emulate which string gets plucked as opposed to allowing you to compose what you want even if it would be impossible to play on an actual guitar
Metropolis ark and LA strings
Solo violin is dry with no audio fx
Yeah, i use shreddage free lol
Ahh ample, yeah ample is good. I like their sample because it's easy to use
Which metropolis ark?
I used Ark 1
Ark 2 is beautiful for softer expressions
Ahh okay. Thank you
Of Course 🫶🏼
If you ever needed live performers let me know
Its a very good plugin 👍👍
Is there software that lets you convert midi to tabs?
Idk
Guitar pro maybe?
Maybe musecore?
I mean the other option is to play it by ear, which, while possible, seems like a real pain unless you have absolute hearing
Relative pitch also works, don't get fooled. Also perfect pitch people get their notes wrong once they hit their 40s or so said Adam neely, it's not as much of a super power as people want to make you believe it is.
I mean if you find no tool that does it for you you can always translate by hand
Playing by ear ain't the only option
I do know about the absolute hearing thing, though it can help for this while it still works. Also, I know relative pitch also works, but it's still a tedious process which is why I said it's a real pain
How do i get retro sounds? Like sounds from an SNES or Genesis?
It's true it was tedious for me but it's really worth it for composing. Point is moot anyways since there are tools that let you do it
Get their soundfonts and a soundfont player
…like from which website?
Eh whatever
Ill figure it out
This was on the first Google page
Gotta up that Google Fu
Methinks they're just looking up websites, be patient
Thank you (:
Btw, wonderful username
Thanks, you too

Aka Classical and orchestra lmao
I even make a 4 hour playlist just for this genre
I like how it's exactly 1 Megabyte
Lmao
you guys like auto wah pedals?
playing around with layered guitars
(im working on a tekken-like funky soundtrack)
That shit had me levitating when I was composing it.
Hey guys it's been a while! Check out this cool song. (Volume Warning)
Real
Cool but too repeatitive?
Hii! I've always loved videogame music and just recently decided to learn how to make some! Havent really started the learning process but im planning to this week :)))
To start my journey I went ahead and made my first song, im open for feedbacks!(Tbh idk what I was doing hahha)

dipped my toes into game music, what do you think
maybe yes
need the low and wet bass on background
create some metal in the first time
Currently making a soundtrack for a game that doesnt exist😭 This is like a main menu theme, not my best work but its smth
How hard is it to start making music for games?
Or I guess more specifically,
To get your first gig
i got a few gigs making indie game music by just going to a local group's virtual meetup. I found em from meetup.com . It was a game dev group. Good luck though 👍
It depends on your portfolio I’d say, even if you haven’t worked on a game before you could still make music to show when applying. If you’re including volunteer work I got my first one shockingly easily, but overall it is somewhat hard to find games to work on since there’s so many composers out there
It's not hard to find a spot to work for free but if you mean paid gig we're talking about an entirely different thing
Yeah definitely
Especially paid on commission projects, revshare is much easier to find than those
Unfortunately very true
I have found far more projects for no pay than for pay 🙁
or maybe revshare
I’m thankfully on a few revshare projects right now🙏
I’ve only ever had one commission game though
that is really cool though. Having any work out there is an awesome accomplishment 🙂
Thanks, I’m sure you’ll find some too in time
kingoframs thanked dlbnhz
Yeah and they expect you to do everything too for the smallest pay. Learn Fmod and of course do the mastering too, I hope you have the right speakers and headphone for that you know.
Laughably hard to get into realistically speaking especially if you've never done anything musical before like learning an instrument. And unfortunately even working Rev share doesn't seem that promising unless the game has real success which is kinda gambling
oh i got a couple commissions for stuff. Nothing really major. But one dude worked for activision. That was cool. It wasn't for a major activision project but rather his personal game
Oh Congrats
I definitely seek to get something more major in time though ofc. But nothing at the moment
and thanks 🙂
It’s also a gamble on if the game is even MADE, sadly most projects tend to get canceled😔
My portfolio is like completely songs on youtube, theres so much ive made that isnt released at all though
Well it’s good that you have music to show still
yeah, you can get alot of mileage out of youtube/soundcloud for portfolios
maybe slight issue is that all of my music is drastically different than whats released before it idk lmao
maybe thats a plus showing that i can make different genres?
Honestly my portfolio is very outdated, but I’ve been too focused on the games I’m working on to update it for now
But I don't really have a style
Hard to tell without taking a listen
I can send my youtube
its not all music on there though
but its p obvious what is
oh also thats outdated
my newgrounds actually has all of my music updated
Yeah it’s good to be able to do a variety of things. I try a lot to be good at any music style I try too. But don’t feel bad or disappointed if you’re not able to do everything
Sometimes things just don’t work out and that’s fine
i have heard a couple tracks. I think it is cool. I would just put your favorite stuff on a dedicated organized soundcloud and try showing your portfoilio to people who are looking for sound designers/composers for video games. Learning fmod or wwise can help too.
the youtube just seems to have stuff unrelated to music. And many people may not want to look through all the videos to find the music. So yeah, otherwise. I think you could find work 👍
Planning on rebranding eventually
Yeah I agree, it’s probably best to have something dedicated specifically to this
yeah fs
There is a playlist of the music at least though
I just havent gotten there quite yet
I do have it all on spotify
oh just send that then.
xd yeah
that is great you got some listeners though! 👍

WIP combat theme I am tryna make
I'm not used to making music, but here's something I made for fun. I don't know why there is so much noise...
This sounds incredible how do I replicate this.
This is in Dm, Em, F, G.
sounds like two osc FM with an envelope on the modulator amplitude, something weird with a little bit of reverb like it's ducked by the dry signal or brought up by tape sat or something, and put through tape saturation with flutter&wow and some kind of mp3ifier effect like goodhertz lossy/specops
like all of it put through the tape saturation and mp3ifier, not just the reverb/delay/whatever that is
it's just too loud, that's why. turn it down before rendering until your render doesn't peak above 0dB (ideally like -1dB or a little below that even)
24bit audio has a gain limit, and 0dB represents the absolute highest possible amplitude of the signal, so anything louder than that just gets clipped off during render resulting in a lot of distortion like you're hearing. You might have a limiter in place beforehand but it can still clip if it's loud enough, so just turn down the master/track that the instrument is on, and turn your speaker volume up to compensate if you want to hear it better.
for some reason I'm just assuming that's fl studio, if so it uses 32bit float (much more available volume) until you render, so that's why it only sounds like that when you render. And also if you have that limiter on your master track, you can open it while playing through some of the louder parts and you'll see a ton of purple where the limiter engages because the input is too loud
I'm just guessing but I'll feel pretty cool if I guessed right
gomger music 👹
which one of these sound the best or most convincing
Free or no?
There are both paid and free options
And there is also Cardinal which is a VCV rack fork
So you don't need to pay for VCV pro in order to use it as plugin in your DAW, Cardinal does that for free but has less modules, tho they're still like 1.5k
And free VCV has like 4k modules all for free it's insane
I route VCV with voicemeter software into my DAW so I don't have to pay money 😹
Ahhh, sounds pretty complex for me but thanks lmao 😹
It's as simple as installing a plugin in the case of Cardinal
Imo modular is the ultimate synthesizer because you can make it sound however you like. It's hard to beat in terms of flexibility, I don't even think that Phase Plant allows you to do as much which means a lot
But I can see why people don't use it either, many don't need to go that deep
Thanks for the feedback! I actually used lmms, but I'll make sure to turn the volume down.

Sounds interesting
Sci-fi + Horror vibes
I cracked the code if you want to change the notes in quick succession like that sample it.
I decided to make a full song out of this
don't know why but soon as the beat dropped I instantly felt like i was about to select my Hero in OVERWATCH lmao.
Street Fighter II Character Select first impression. then Sonic Twist. while still sounding like Street Fighter II. thats what i got.

(update : i heard it, and yea i hear the resemblence)

i know is not very common this kind of songs in the game dev, but i want to share it: https://youtu.be/fiVb5VQ0PKA?si=R19fWSEWRlOxNNRu&t=291 hope you like it.
It's still a cool track. It just reminded me of both games. 😁
tried a mick gordon style approach, and i think i succeded :3
(this track will be used in a mod i'm currently developing :D)
How to sound design the bass?
Also, What drum do you use?
Got inspired and decided to make a piece of art and a song together
(This is also my first time doing like...intense Club EDM, and Breakcore)
I used Keepforest Watchkeeper for the drums, and the bass is basically just an instance of serum 2, a saw wave with 3 voices, and minimal unison (2 or 3%), in that instance multibrand compressor, and a phaser with minimal feedback, then to the effect chain that is not in serum 2, I used a serum 2 FX instance with another multibrand compressor, and Overdrive distortion, then, a ableton stock FX plugging called Pedal, that gain too 100%, set the mode to distortion. in the corner, the sub on, and then OTT. to say it as shortly as I can. xD
Hi Guys ! I just released two awesome plugins ! One is free and is called Crush FX : https://crushaudio.com/fr/products/crush-fx
And the other one is a premium percussion library called Crush Percussion that contains +100 percussions and allows you to tune your percussion to a specific key (very usefull to blend with the sound design elements and feel more cohesive with the music) , you also have e sequencer, the ability to change microphone position from a single slider and much more : https://crushaudio.com/products/crush-percussion
Okayy
Hey, guys! Is there a sound designer. I would really like to have some advice please, because I am makign a game in Unity.
I am makinga Horror game and I have an old creaking door that is opening on trigger event and I want to make this sound to be realistic like the door slowly opens, I have a clip and I am trying to edit it in Audacity with Pitch, Speed and Tempo but I really want some advice on how to make it realistic
Honestly mate you should just hire a sound designer, as annoying as it sounds
Sound is one of the most important aspects of any game film or creative piece and often gets over looked
You’ll notice all the best games have the best sounds, for example Minecraft sounds are so good they strike a deep sense of nostalgia and happiness into people’s hearts as a mix of good memories but also amazing sound selection
I know bro I really know
Audio is the most important aspect yes and especially in Horror genres
If you want it "realistic" you don't do any processing at all. What you're really looking for is "hyperrealism"
More real than reality
Something from yesterday I guess
Was messing around with stuff
Might work on it some more
I didn't know what to do with this song, so I just finished it quickly.
This is a song I made by myself for my game, any opinions ? (first song I have ever made, took four days to make :D. )
holy glowup(????)
if you do not wish to break your eardrums, don not proceed to hear the version on the top
a very rough track inspired by marathon (the game)
i love the bass at the end
first time trying symphonic metal, stuck with midi guitars as I suck at guitar irl so it lacks a little expression
Yeah I figured it out yesterday. Thanks tho
so i made this on accident

I made this
these are both really nice tracks!
how long have you been doing music for?
2 weeks
im a perfectionist
took 5 days to make
hbu
About five years, took me roughly 2-3 hours to make this
I let the music guide me and it showed me where it wanted to go
lowk same
that's truly how it should go
It is taking me months to make one.
Months to make a song? Damn, are you Hans Zimmer
No. I don't feel like I am as good. But I keep making errors.
I want to remove all of them.
perfectionism is a bitch for me, took 5 damn days to make a 1 minute 13 second song, slowed it down to 2:59 and it barely sounds good
anyone here uses reaper on linux? For some reason, reaper keeps stuttering and lagging. My computer is more than enough to handle it... so not sure why.
https://youtu.be/Y9X7xyP2YmM?si=pnGIYZ-2EEFbeMwF
so I was experimenting on Unity + Wwise for Game Audio, used Unity Learn Project from the Asset Store
This has a nice lead, but it doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. The background guitar isn't doing much, you could make the background guitars also do power chords, I feel they add a nice crunch. I also think the drums are a bit too loud.
The track is meant to loop pretty much endlessly, so the person paying me asked the lead to not go anywhere definitively 🙏
Also, the background guitar is two guitars playing a backing rhythm, identical but different sounds in each ears, because the commissioner doesn't like metal music, but admitted the guitars would work for the track in his opinion if kept simple
The drums, I can see where you're coming from, but he asked the drums to be a bit louder to keep the pace of the track going as sound effects played all around you in-game
I see, I just listened and thought it would be cooler with some more on top of it. Like an octave chord following the rhythm with a harmony.
Or a Phrygian chord progression with 5th's and 10th's. However, the tuning might be too low to get clean, 10th's
Lol thanks for the compliment :)

haha srry I didnt wanna spam the chat
no worries
Hello everyone. I'm new here, and as I understand it, you can submit your demo recordings for execution by those who have already gained experience in composing. A man walks by with a banana in his ear. A girl approaches him and says, "You have a banana in your ear, sir," and he responds, "Speak louder, I have a banana in my ear."
Are u a bot?
Drums are kinda flat 😬
No
Those fadeouts/in feel unnatural. I'd suggest tweaking the tension on the automation.
Yeah true
It’s just a slow fade up from 0 to 100
Also, would you happen to have a hard limiter set at around -3dB on the master channel?
-6 db
I’m pretty sure most of my audio files look like that
I’m not really familiar with mixing and mastering, I just like my music like this
I used the same hard limiter on this
I added vocals thinking it sounded cool just for it to sound shit😭
I will remove it later on since I’ve been working on this song for a while not knowing what to do with it
Oh wow I did NOT expect that drop haha, this is super cool! I think if you want that crunch that hard limiting gives, try bussing your synths into a limiter as opposed to the whole track! Easier to control the dynamics while not completely crushing everything else with it. That allows your synths to be crunchy, and your drums will better punch through the mix; it also allow smaller details to shine a bit more. Also for the fades, instead of using volume, try automating a low pass filter! Really really cool track though keep it up!
Just threw this idea together today, the game is set in a vast post apocalyptic desert, rustic futurism aesthetics and a mysterious storyline- im relatively new to composing specifically for games, so any feedback on this idea snippet would be great! This is meant to be either a main game theme or an exploration theme as the player travels the desert, tried to catch that vibe! And yes it is very quiet right now no master yet haha
You're basically compressing the entire song heavily. Which can be alright if you're intentionally doing it for a certain sound, but pushing the limiter hard adds distortion and can cause noticeably inconsistent volume on individual tracks. It's generally not as noticeable in that "Interlude" song because you're sidechaining the kicks/snares. But when the percussion and synth overlap I can hear everything getting squished.
I keep it compressed because it brings in a full sound
I also never really notice distortion besides the end of the song when there’s multiple drums playing
Same for this
Man is it really necessary for modern FL Studio to update seemingly every other week?
Just convert to ProTools! You'll never get updates, and when you do they'll break your entire workflow! For only the measly annual price of only $300/annually. /s
its not like youre required to download it
My lobster is too buttery, my steak is too juicy.
Not an FL user myself but they are the only daw I know of that provides constant updates with a perpetual licence
I'm just wondering what the point of it is, as all. Is it buggier than it used to be?
They don't even link to patch notes anymore when I click the notification nagging me about it.
But I guess at least they aren't like a lot of other modern software that constantly and randomly moves around UI elements evidently just for the sake of changing shit.
Yet.
from what ive seen its just new features, new inhouse vsts and minor changes
the only reason why i updated recently was because they made it so you can now add mixer tracks on a base of 16, instead of preloading like 300 mixer tracks
WIP the mixing is pretty bad right now
also weird giant silence at the end there, my bad
To anybody who knows about mixing and mastering metal, I feel like the guitars sound so bad in the second half. They have this harsh crackly vibe to it that I just hate and I don't know why or what's wrong 😭
Is all of this programmed via Midi?
I hear a clicky "hip" before the power chords at the beginning, if that's what you're talking about.
Nope the guitar is all me playing an actual one
yeah, bad guitars
maybe you need precision drive pedal and more prescense in the amp
and...? i hear... too much hi cut?
yes, fix them
bad metal demo)
i just could feel the shreddage hydra inside me
(or is it live guitar?)
also is that tmkd drum samples
i think u just need a better guitar tone
or maybe you cranked up the presence knob too much on your amp?
a demo I wrote awhile back to pitch to a developer. They liked it but weren't interested lol
Really strong arrangement! Mix needs a little work to humanise dry components but tbh in this scene when is that NOT the case lol. I really like it. Id recommend a couple of soupy reverb channels to glue things together and automate it by hand to make sure it maintains a human character
its always 4/4 right
something ethereal
drums are a bit harsh sorry
awesome
thats hydra, your right
uncompressed with better drums
I mean, it sounds pretty normal to me. It could be the lack of bass making the tone unbalanced
I'm not sure I hear what you're talking about, does my recording of it also have the issue?
Hi guys im Ronaldo Aryanto, a composer and musician passionate about music. Especially games such as Stardew Valley, Souls-Like, and Undertale. Haere i made a music inspired by Stardew Valley. Hope you can give me some feedback! Thank you!
Made a Boss Battle theme out of an area theme I made
(0-0:12) Long intro
(0:12-0:37) Build up to Main chorus/Song Ignition
No yours doesn’t 😭
i’ll see if i can export just the guitars so y oh can have a better listen
Alright
I'd like to have the clean guitar tracks too if possible
Yeah sure no problem
I did use a transposer on my amp though I went from Drop D to Drop A#
Here's the amped up guitars
Also because I initially thought the problem might've been sloppy playing I tracked the guitars again today to get cleaner takes
I tuned straight down to Drop A#
It could be the transposer
rescore and audio redesign of this lil game i found on steam called itzo
So I have your dry tracks though my distortion and I think I hear it still
My recordings are played first, then yours
I transposed the dry tracks to match mine
Same project but your dry tracks aren't transposed
I can still hear it a bit, so I think it's something with your recording process somewhere
Yeah that’s gotta be it cuz now i know it’s not my amp’s fault lol
I think you're recording too loud
And your distortion is clipping
Record your dry tracks quieter and turn up your tracks after distortion
I’m using a focusrite scarlett solo and i have the input gain set that if i pick my ABSOLUTE hardest it just barely turns from green to amber
is that too much?
Yeah probably
Your drys are noticably louder than mine
right i’ll turn it down and re record them
thanks so much for taking the time out to help like this i didn’t expect someone to go this in depth 😭🙏🏽
You're welcome, I usually try to comment on music here that I can
I'm not too into djent, but I thought I could help

i love these guitars. don't hear much of a problem. i'd love to work with you if you ever wanted some people to help get more tracks done.

Professional prompter, not musician/composer 😉
If u can't make a band or play guitar, you can use virtual instruments to make metal you know?
No one needs a middleman, if people care so little that they'll use AI music they'll prompt it themselves
That's supposed to be the whole selling point of the tech in the first place
first try
GenAI ≠ Creative tools
I thought so yesterday, but I was not unsure of the view points on generative AI music. I know some places accept it, I know some places are against it. I didnt want to call it out and nail myself to a cross lol.
Hey! Are there people with experience in dnb production here? 🙂 I started with it yesterday and made my first loop. I think for a first loop I did a decent job, but I have no clue how to tackle the mids / high instruments or FX. I tried piano, pads, synths. but pads are too floaty, piano feels disconnected and synths sound too "digital?" I was aiming for slightly heavier liquid / dance d&b (I am not worried about the mix and sidechaining kicks for now, its shit, but its fine my main focus is learning the basics of sound design)
version with the synths, it just feels awkward
It would depend mostly on what sound youre going for in your head - from the standpoint of never having written Liquid dnb, I write more neurofunk dnb which is disgusting and heavy by comparison - your drums are nice and punchy - your synths I think would work but they feel alittle too forefront - in the examples im listening to on youtube, it seems that the synths tend to sit more atmosphereic and further back in the mix, possibly by simple slider moves, and lowered the synth in the mix, as well as adding maybe a touch of reverb to them to soften them up and give them that atmosphereic feel. As far as your bass goes - I would try perhaps creating a reese bass patch for use of flow, and ease for now as you are getting into the genre - also don't forget once you put a master on, and properly gainstage your elements, its all going to feel even more meshed together. As always if you feel lost, reference track, reference track reference track! you got this.
This what it sounds like. A little Neurofunk
There is another version with my wifes vocals on it ❤️
Oh yea this is nice. It also has some metal elements in it no?
And thanks for the tips! They're really helpful! 🙂
And yeah I'm not being too harsh on myself now because it's the first project and it's more of a learning experience to learn the ropes and layers and all instead of aiming for production :p
Yes it does! ❤️
Ohhhhh so your talentless
Tryna indoctrinate real musicians into using your soulless, derivative pointless AI software
Music will never fall to the likes of you who are actively trying to destroy art that comes from the heart and soul
Oh yeah so talentless I mean, I'm obviously doing something right. I'm making money, I get streams, and I've got all my royalties lined up. On most AI authenticators, it's under a 50% chance of AI, but you're right, I write every single one of these—all lyrics and everything.
Royalty’s on 2000 streams is literal pennies
Meanwhile us musicians are making money out of thin air, literally
“Professional prompter” is another word for loser
I am also a drummer, Mr. All-Knowing.oh yeah and hoe is that boss
How
I made £30,000 last month so pretty good
That’s pounds not rupees little boy
Im British mate but go one look me up
Companies like the BBC are never gonna use music that’s AI generated
Then you should know better
No its called getting ahead of the curve or with the times
AI music is everything us brits stand against, we’re pioneers, creatives inventors the list goes on, but you’d rather type in a prompt and act like you’ve made it big instead of putting in the work
We up here ai generating ai market flow graphs now via piano keys that don't make sense
As mentioned prior, my initial statement still stands.
Please don't post work unless it's your own productions.
It's annoying, and disingenuous
So you admit that you enjoy trying to trick the system and pull wool over the eyes of people who don’t know better? Classy. Also, I could hear from the start of the tracks it was AI. But you do you. Streams and numbers really don’t mean much anymore as they can be botted or purchased. I find that information irrelevant. Also, I don’t know what associations you’re registered with - but BMI and ASCAP won’t pay royalties to AI generated music, and are recognized internationally - unless there is significant human input. From what I hear in the tracks - they sound entirely AI. Even it looks like your images and flow chats of information appear to be generated.
Your flow chart through an AI image checker. Just stop please.
You were quicker on this than I.
Odds are that every other person in this conversation has had their work stolen without consent or compensation in order to create the database compression and interpolation software you use to pretend to create. Everything you've ever pretended to be is entirely derivative of the work of others. You would not exist without theft
Okay I listened to your advise @polar viper 🙂 Its still far from perfect but everything feels like it serves purpose now 😄 Still, pretty pleased but also frustrated because I can't create the sound design I have in my head 😛
Dope! let me have a listen
Yes! much better! do you hear how it all glues together and feels more cohesive!?
Lets go man!
its mainly the FX that are cheap now imo, but can't have everything in a first beat
and thanks a lot 🙂 EDM is a lot different compared to orchestral work haha
Hey youre welcome man! I love to teach and provide feedback where I can
I am still open to feedback though! The mix is a seperate issue that I will tackle later, but are there any other things that are bugging in this track that is missing / wrongly implemented?
So something that could help give your current iteration more body, is to add a sub layer underneath the Reese. Just follow the same pattern as the reese, and itll thicken it up. Be sure the sub-layer is more "felt" then heard LIke let me give you a quick example so you can hear as well. honestly I feel the stingers and little small ear candy elements you have are great. The track is an easy listen so far, smooth, and feel quite uplifting. Really anything you want to add is up to you. And yeah - get the structure and arragenemtn down pat, with proper gain staging, then you can dial in the mix, and finally add that master polish.
And I dont think anything youve implimented is wrong either - I forgot to address that.
Yeah I already have a sub layer that is following the root, but not the reese pattern. Is it better to follow the reese? And I think my subs are too quite then if they're not noticable 😄
Oh yeah but im just winging it haha I wouldnt be surprised if I did some things completely wrong. I have quite a few bad habbits because I always try to avoid tutorials because I feel like they lock me into a pattern and what I make loses Identity? Idk if im just rambling or if it makes sense
Yeah, have your sub follow the reese, give it a shot if it works it works, if not then you can reverb back to your following of the root - it will add a more glued body to it. And thats tricky thing about subs is dont want them to be heard heard, just kind help rattle the brain a little.
I typically make my subs follow my reese or my basslines in general for added thickness, but as always there are no hard fast rules ❤️
No no this is true, I like to look at turorials as "guidlines" to avoid the cornering myself as well.
Hmnmmm i think following the root gets kinda messy, but boosting the volume seems to do the trick
I think your issue is lack of aggressive sidechain
Wonderful!
facts this too - can help with cohesion - we love our side chain lol
Aggressive sidechain with longer release (important) gives the bouncy feel to electronic tracks
I know but im not at that stage yet 🙂 I'm trying to get a base composition first but thanks for the tip 🙂 I've also never done any real side chaining so it will also be quite the experience. All I've ever done is some percussion hits in a dense orchestral mix but thats veeeryy subtle
grasshopper2707 thanked platinumvvv
It's pretty much essential for electronic
^
It's useful for all genres but especially electronic
Where it's used less for mix space, and more so that it just sounds good.
The mix space is just a bonus
I love that you are taking on a new avenue btw.
Its how you grow as an engineer/artist/producer.
Oh yeah for sure. But in what stage do you start with that? In what I normally do in orchestral work is a very clear flow of:
composition -> volumes & mic positions -> ER and hall reverb -> slight eq to clean up room noise -> slight surgical EQ -> slight compression
but I've noticed that EDM is a more iterative process
I mean your DnB production doesn't take those steps so
You can do sidechaining while producing
Yeah I know like I said. its a more iterative process rather than linear
The thing is, mixing is a back and forth process anyways so you tweak parameters and have to go back to previous plugins or channels and re adjust
So it's not like a linear flow anyways
^
I was about to add you will be adjusting things as you go
yo fellow artist, hows it hanging! im looking to contribute to a project, whether it be sound / music coaching or producing / sound design myself, love to help anyone one out
but wouldnt it be a waste to setup side chains and adjust EQ and volumes if you end up nuking the sample anyways because you're not happy with the composition?
you may add a guitar or somthing that may require some sort of slight EQ dip in another instrument you have, or a slight side chain etc. As I say, as engineers we dont make 5 or 6 big descisions - we make a thousand tiny decisions.
Welcome in Des ❤️
Im new here too - haha.
Right now, Im just providing assistance where I can, and dropping in a few demos haha
your bio... its greek? and we talking dnb, because i happen to have a knack for it
we talking this? has big potiential for a game for sure
Haha yes its greek it translates too "Let My Light Shine."
cool man my grandfather was born in athens.
got to visit once, was frikkin awesome
Hell yeah. Ive always had a love and facination with the greek pantheon - so when came time to choose my artist name, and online presence I was talking about band names with my wife, and she was like "well your government name translate to "Light" why not something with light?" So Helios came about - then Rage part name because alot of my compositions are very aggresive and hard edged, so Rage of Helios was born haha.
Oh you think so? Well if anyone wants to they're free to nick it and use it as they please 😄 and thanks!
grasshopper2707 thanked des.aster
yea its got a cheerful warmth to it, its nice
doesnt it! its very uplifting.
Can you share some of your music? 🙂 im curious about your work
It's inspired by all the Liquicity related artists. One of my favourite festivals. Everyone high as a kite bouncing to happy dnb :p
i think i got i like 1 dnb original lying around, hold up
But where I'm from there is basically a big edm event every other weekend :p
Since you mentioned orchestral pieces Grasshopper.
This one will eventually have lyrics on it, but here you are.
Oh this is brutal! Nice!!
How far in the production process is this piece?
Instrumental is basically finished, I just need to record my vocals haha. I may revisit the mix and master - this one is a few years old.
If you're open for feedback I'd like to share it :))
i dont have my files, on my laptop, can i share a youtube video here or what
of course.
Lets go DES ❤️
i feel like im about to watch pirates blow each others ships apart and im here for it
yo that switch up the funk
god im under deck and theres wood flying everyehere
only the lord can save us now
Youre seeing a whole movie
right
jesus this is pure cinema
Ai users are funny.
The spiccatto strings in the beginning sound a bit choppy, which is a very common thing for VSTs so nothing you can really do about it except throw more money at it :p . But the instrumentation behind it sounds a lot more polished and could mask the imperfections of those strings. Adding another layer with s different instrument, maybe short winds or subtle brass in another octave can also clean it up I think if you wanna keep it on the foreground
I like this. Thank you!
rage_of_helios thanked grasshopper2707
I run into the same issue quite often. This was my attempt at layering the shorts to hide the VST artifacts :p
This is pleasant btw. I love the movement on this, that reese is speaking to my soul.
Nice tight shuffly hats
you must love pirates or am i tripping
lets goooo
Well yes of course
OH WAIT THIS WAS GRASSHOPPER
this isn't music or anything but I've been practicing voice acting (voiced Sukuna)
Oooooh this is nice. I love the spacing onthis.
yall could produce together lmfao, very similiar style
Pirate orchestrals with dnb? :p
why not, drum'n'bones
lmao
Drum n Bonessss
new genre unlocked
Oh fuck yea
This is an actual banger term to coin
I see the vision
k im gonna go smoke then try my hand at a drumnbones banger
Ill have my go at it tomorrow hopefully:p
Letsss gooo ❤️ Ill pop in later too - gotta mix a track forthe wifey. haha
awesome chatting with you guys! Keep on killin it.
While I'm at it I'll also jump on the band wagon. Ai art isn't at, or stolen art at best. There is no creativity involved. Any tweaker can prompt this garbage while overdosing on fentanyl
And sure you make money with it so you claim, but that isn't any kind of metric for validity. You're just here to pull people into you're weasel-like sceme without making any positive contribution to these communities
@shy pond @polar viper I was visualizing what Drum n Bones would sound like and the term Rum n Bass also came to mind in the process 🤔
oh hell yea
game music
Another fun one for you guys ❤️
Older mix, but it slaps 😄
Head headroom in the "verses" because there was once suppose to be a vocalist on this but he poofed.
holy that sounds fire, what choir vst did you use?
Rhodope 2 Ethnic Bulgarian Choir
some practice i did. i recorded gameplay and voiced over it, i would really love to voice in a fighting game
How are all my audio people doing today?
OI
still working on the same loop 😛 trying the side chaining stuff now
not sure if im fucking things up or improving, but I have backups so its alright
It sounds a lot wider, but the bass sounds thinner? But I dont think I mind that all that much?

This is my Atlantis style theme I was working on!
Would love to meet other composers and sound creators. I’m primarily a voice actor but crossing over into composition and SFX design 🔊🎶

Just a random demo.
Hi there!
Here's my latest video, where I transform a simple voice into a terrifying sound. Also, part of my sound collection - Darkest Whispers - was made using these techniques. Enjoy and let me know your feedback.
I accidentally made this more fire of a night theme than it should be considering the theme of the game idea its for but... i like it too much-
Hi 🙂
@shy pond I tried to work on pirate D&B but it turned out nothing like pirates at all. and to be honest also nothing like D&B 😛
it sounds funny though. It might work as a D&B hook? But also not at all

@warped thunder idk, i havent been producing much lately because of crazy life situations, but im happy to be getting my feet in the water again , i wrote something, good.. idk, theme? idk, direction? idk , mixed? definitely not - but im writing so that makes me happy

Hello everyone!
so i saw Hans Zimmer live in gothenburg awhile back, it was amazing
Oh damn this is nice man. What will be the use case of this track? Is it for a game or just a personal project?

Is there anyone here that enjoys eardrum breaking music other than me
Untitled 8
Lil previews of some of my songs
Any suggestion?
nah thats dope, adds a human feel
idk , just brushing up my skills, i have no ongoing projects right now
Ay thats fair though. What do you wish to accomplish eventually with music? 😄
to make more then 4 dollars a year would be nice, but honestly I just want to make people feel good with music, i dont care how. I am an actual musician IRL, i have years of experience playing guitar keyboard, cello, a few others, honestly i just want to make music, make sound, I really dont even care that much about the money, i have a 9-5 for that
heres another one i started last night, again just for funsies, i have passion, no projects lol
Swimming with fish
😌 , ja, ik leuk nederlands
heuujjj gekoloniseerd
holy shit i havent heard that in like half a decade XD
made me lol
My trick whenever I'm stuck with music is to throw a lot of money at it for better tools and plugins so I can lie to myself that I'm inproving
yea i did that, my DAWs probably worth at least 8k at this point
now im a broke ass, i kinda like it though, quality of life is better somehow
Oh well. seems like a good investment no?
Sunken cost fallacy be like
Yeah can't quit now. gotta spend 10 more years and 20k to finally make it out of the hood
I got all the nonsense, kontakt and like 100 libraries , serum 2, UVI and like 100 libraries, uhh FL studio pro lmfao so much shit ill probably never have the time to even touch , most I got on black Friday deals or whatever so it felt justified, I also have a stage piano, like 8 guitars and enough hardware to fill a 10x10 storage unit, probably helps im well into my 30s and there was a time before things became super digital pretty recently imo - hell I still have old school vinyl turntables and a crap ton of bheringer and korg synths and modulators for days
I wanna say I made the full switch to working in a professional DAW over hardware maybe 8 years ago, hell ive had recording studios - kinda let it get away from me having a little too much fun but eh - I dont regret any of it
Btw.; the mix is still very shit so don't worry about that 😛 but arrangement wise, do you think there is something sticking out like a sore thumb or other feedback that can improve this track 🙂
I'm so grateful for itb production
I can't afford recording an orchestra 😹
have you at some point done it professionaly?
yea but the people i worked with, some studio we rented with a couple highschool buddies, everything got real messy - hard to explain to someone i dont know haha but yea it just didnt work out, i could do it full time from home in my room studio now but, idk i never made enough money to pay my bills, im very bad at negotiation, i often work for free, because my passion outweighs my greed, but idk i guess if the offer was right, or the clients were dependable then i could be re convinced, but now, just a hobby
how about you Mr. interview, whats your goals
To not overdose on the weekends
or are we still talking music?
yea, you already remind me of a 20 year old me
maybe 24 ish i dont know, time flies
Music wise I really dont know yet 😛 I started out making metal 10 ish years ago, moved to orchestral / fantasy shit and now recenty I am making a shift to D&B 😛
whats your daw
But EDM is still very new to me so now everything is still fun because I havent hit my plateau. as soon as I do I guess ill move on to jazz or something or Y2K rock
FL 🙂
besides your hats probably hitting the top of the high end spectrum, nothing obvious - however alot of people like these sharp hats, kinda a preference thing
nah go jazz after edm because edm jazz fusion is fuckin killer
touch on electro swing, you wont regret it
electro sswing is the godchild of edm and jazz
wont touch electro swing. I still associate it with early 2010's troll videos
nahhhhhhhhh its so fun , dont put up walls for yourself, theres alot ot be learned from a technical standpoint
and you can do the electro shuffle on the beat, cmon
why did we practice fortnite dances if not for electro swing
can you check it?
I enjoyed it
How can I improve on the build up? Its just so lame I was thinking arpeggiator? But the tempo is too high and the chords change too fast so I am a but stuck..
yea, if you have your lead in a vst still: render it, chop it up, stutter it a bit
Yo
Check this out
I like it, sounds quite nice
Thanks

Yet another one
And more
These are decent I like the more melodic parts the most
I think a bit more variation would make it better though
favorite part of a teto song i released a week ago.. newish to writing lyrics but I wanted to at least show off my skills with the instrumental :V
not 100% on what genre it is but I guessed probably something like symphonic power metal, or ig just power metal but I just added the symphonic part to it
edit: song is Evil, Inc by Zeracli (the name Im releasing under)
I was experimenting a bit, but acid and dnb go together quite decent 😄 dont know how to continue though, feel like I should drop off the energy, but that feels so lame
SICK! It gives me Ghost vibes?? I also used to do a lot of symphonic metal a few years ago! my work was not great but I had fun doing it 😄

no worries, i know ball
Hey all,
Hope it’s okay to post this here but please let me know if I need to park it elsewhere! I wanted to get your feedback on something real quick.
In a nutshell, I’m planning to be a speaker for the first time at the 2026 game sound con and I wanna make sure that what I have to offer is valuable to everyone who attends.
I’m currently going over a bunch of ideas and want to throw this out there for you to consider.
In light of all the recent layoffs in the game industry, I thought that sharing lessons I’ve learned along the way in my 15 + years as a freelancer might be valuable to those who are new to freelancing and are looking for an alternative to just getting hired by a company considering how competitive it is.
In other words , would a talk on how to freelance in 2026 be something that’s interesting to you? What else would you wanna hear if you were to attend GSC?
Curious to hear your thoughts.
Thanks!
-Aaron-
More specifically how to work as a freelancer and be able to earn enough to make a living. I think alot of people going into this industry would value that. Because that is a stepping stone that would actually allow people to advance.
Thanks so much for the feedback. Would you mind elaborating a bit more on what you mean by specifically how to work as a freelancer? Things like time management and negotiation come to mind when I think of the “how” so is that what you were thinking of? If there’s anything else, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks again!
Im not the guy you responded to originally, but I definitely am interested in what you have to say. I agree with what he's saying about working as a freelancer and being able to make it sufficient enough. Things like you mentioned, time management and big on the topic of negotiation. Maybe also some insight on managing workload? What sorts of projects to seek out, what to potentially avoid, how to avoid overcommitting yourself. Networking, which im sure gets said a lot but maybe what you did that you felt worked well for you when it comes to networking?
this is exactly what i meant, to have freelancing as a main source of income, and strategies to achieve that
any guitarists wanna collab on some hobby music for fun? lemme knooooow.
do you all think orchestra can still be good if made with low realistic samples?
I'm testing an orchestra soundfont. It's not a bad one but IMO it's not that mind blowing one
(also no reverb because lazy)
any gamedevs need music for their games? im a music producer with over 2 years of experience dm if intersted
yes, i made a looot of thing with just soundfont and a lot of reverb, with layering you can do a lot
that is pratically with only sfz and reverb
-# the melody is "Song Of Storms" from Zelda: Ocarina of Time, this is not mine, i only made the synths for experimentation purposes.
also, doing a lot of research, you can find cool free sfz packs
Wow Twitter sounds like shit.
Thanks so much Brian for the feedback! This helps out a lot. I appreciate it.

combining Windows XP era software with Linux desktop open source-- (Linux Mint 21, pulseaudio, ALSA) it's actually possible to toss audio back and forth between native, emulated, and Flatpack'd apps.
DIY modular VSTi (VCV Rack) being driven by pre-VSTi native Windows sequencer.
Hey! I wanted to get into Audio making for my game assests, I was wondering what a good free app could be? I've got barely any money so I need to stick to free stuff, but I still want to make personalised tunes, is there anything anyone could suggest? Thanks!!
I've managed to do something similar with VMware and blackhole under MacOS. Showed me how powerful software can be for sure
Try Reaper. It's not free but you can use the trial forever like winrar
Ahh thank you tons!
You need virtual instrument plugins too because they don't come with reaper
Ohh, any idea where I could find those? Would I just need to seatch the instruments + reaper or something 😭
Yeah well it depends on what you want to make. There are many good free synthesizers like surge xt, hopefully you know what a synthesizer is
But if you want to make convincing sounding orchestral music for free you're likely screwed
Or let's say realistic sounding orchestra like in modern scores
I can confirm, getting realistic is the hardest thing I have to do
