#Horus Heresy - Third Edition

Argh people keep saying the book has leaked - clearly fishing - but has it?
Sounds on brand for the current rules writers.
Need to add "further nerfs to tsons because they looked at them funny"
30k has always had terrible balance 5 factions in the game and all of them are busted lmao
Tbf. Daemons, Marines, Mech, Custodes, SolAux, Militia are already more than 5. And its even more variation if we're splitting marines in Blackshields, Shattered legions and normal legions, and splitting Mech in Taghmata, Knights and Titan Legios.
HH is not as samey as people often say. Even if "basic" Marine on Marine action is still the core of the game ofcourse.
If they are all busted then it's balanced
People will say "HH is just Marine vs Marine!!!" like most 40k tables aren't already LSM vs LSM.

Someone on reddit undistorted the back of the box for a better view
And someone in the comments tried translating the text on the side and got as follows:
"~ THIS BOX CONTAINS ~
Warhammer The Horus Heresy - Age of Darkness 356 page Third Edition Hardback Rulebook
Plastic Tactical XXXXX & Objective Tokens
Two Rules Reference Sheets
Twenty six-sided Dice & one Scatter Dice
Templates, one Range Ruler & one Transfer Sheet
Introductory Rules & Construction Guide
~ INCLUDES 50 CITADEL MINIATURES ~
One Saturnine Praetor
One Centurion in MKII Power Armour
One Saturnine Dreadnought
One Arachae (?) Quad Accelerator Platform
Six Saturnine Terminators
Forty Legionaries in MKII Power Armour
Two sets of Disintegrator Weapons"*
Busted has two ways, busted good and busted bad
Busted is busted
Probably meant Arachanid or arachne
Seeing how the tarantula exists Already I guess it makes sense for the other variants to be spider based
Ye that's what I am thinking
Interested to see the return of disintegrator weapons too
honestly that text is harder to read than the original pics
A little but it does make seeing the minis easier
So what are the odds we think the Throne of Skulls event at WHW at the end of June will use the new rules?
In other words, it’d be good for GW to release some kind of rules note or article ahead of the event so people can plan armies but also flights and hotels (if they decide not to attend for instance)
They probably will. There was an event which went up before the 2.0 announcement, and they sent out a message a month or so before saying "we're using the new edition rules." They might do summat differently this time of course, but.
Hopefully they do it soon. Though it’ll be tough cuz if they announce the new edition the 28th, preorders prolly won’t be up until the following week (6/7th) which means release around the 21st which is a week before the event
Hmm, now I think about it, that might be cutting it a bit too close. I figure they'll let you know either way, just because there's probably people already messaging them asking what's gonna happen.
They're usually pretty good about that kind of thing.
Well since I'm going to Throne of Skulls with my Auxilia next month I do really hope that the rumours of backwards compatibility indexes is true, or else I suppose ill have to get a refund as god know how long it'll take them to update non-legions 🤷♂️
Abiy late
So did you buy it
Nah
Honestly, I would just double the hull points of every vehicle to solve that.
Bold I like it
My fix for the problem
Remove sunder from LC
Give every vehicle 2 more HP
Make a rule so that if a vehcile has 50% or more hullpoints left, and gets an explode result, it just taked d3 HP instead and if its below 50% it pops.
Brutal isnt a problem in itself. Works great for Typhon or Demolishers. The problem is that hammers and dreadnoughts have it (although i wouldnt mind Levi with Brutal2)
Brutal on spamable platforms is the problem, TBH TH needs to lose Brutal, it does noneed it at all.
I’m fine with brutal two contemptors. Points just need to justify it. Base load out of double heavy bolter resolves the issue
Their fist should be better than a power fist
The problem with burtal on hammers is that it effectivly doubles the amount of saves you force on your oponent for only 5 more points.
There are arguments both ways, but my point about feedback still stands
Nothing, they get S x2 just like a fist, the +5 points you get concussive
Concussive and Sunder
If anything I think the game could use more brutal lol
That's what tey had in v3 Playtest
Just have less of it be the S8 AP 2 variety
And have it happen after saves to not slow the game down
It could use more brutal but not on the places people think.
Also brutal needs to work like Brutal(x/y) where a wound roll of x results in y wounds.
Things like Chain sowrds should have Brutal(6/2) for example
I also think the same for breaching, it shoudl be breaching(x/y) Wound roll of x results in AP of 2, and then give it to things like auto canons,
AC gets breaching(4/3) and rending(6)
Ohhh bold I like it.
But yeah, a damage stat (which is what brutal is) isn't bad. It's something I quite like in the post 7th Ed's of 40k since it's a nice difference to the very toughness reliant and not consistent ID
Also brutal needs to work like Brutal(x/y) where a wound roll of x results in y wounds.
Things like Chain sowrds should have Brutal(6/2) for example
Absolutely not
Its an example not a hand it needs it
That would be awful to play in to on every model in a despoiler/assault squad
Brutal on S8 weapons that are very easily obtainable is really the big problem.
TH need to go back to just being S x2 with concusive, tahts it.
Yeah that would still make them better against infantry than chainfists, and chainfists still better against vehicles
It would just be better for the health of a game over all. Right now for example, powerfists are completely pointless
Facts
fists are peak warhammer
Just like single lightening claw terminators are the coolest melee option.
That leaves little options for weapons to cover dreadnoughts outside lascannons.
they might tone down dreadnoughts some other way such that having an answer to them is no longer as important
third edition is crazy considering they haven’t even finished moving everything to plastic
Also haven't heard the best things about it to
They’re pretty close, aside from the legion ones, right?
pretty sure there’s still a fair few bits of solar auxilia stuff to go
and sisters to boot who haven’t even gotten a look in
Oh yeah, the alt factions
Dreadnoughts being toned down would help, but AP2 and S8 will likely continue reigning supreme no matter what.
By that logic, 40k 10e is crazy since they havent finished releasing votann and WE from 9e
