Speaking of lovers… could lovers be more than just regular geese in an unfortunate situation? It’d be cool if they could have roles like everyone else but still be a lover. Like having a pigeon lover and a vigilante lover. Dodos are the only ones who can’t have lovers

Shotgun Duck

The shotgun duck can bust a cap in someone's butt. Even if he shoots them in the head, the bullet will always end up in their butt somehow.

#

gamemode idea right there I’m gonna put my own twists in it though

bright pond
#

This role is inspired by the thralls a bit, and could be called either raven or crow, whichever is more suiting.
These will be their own team and will have restricted sight, not as restricted as thrall vision, but it won’t be like goose vision.
The player who starts with this role will be able to talk and everything like any other role, however, when they come across a dead body, they can turn the body to their team. Revived bodies won’t be brought back until after the next meeting, and to prevent them from telling who killed who, cannot speak.
Players on this team will only be able to turn one body per round, and can be killed again (but won’t come back, unless revived, in which case they will rejoin the team after the next meeting).
If that last part makes them too powerful, it could be changed so each person can only be in that team once.
This team wins when all killing roles are gone and there are more members of this team than non-killing roles.

I came up with this just now, so there may be some problems and imbalances in it

#

I tried not to make it too easy or too hard

calm hare
#

so they bring back other players as the thralls? that would be team swapping

bright pond
#

No, the players brought back wouldn’t be thralls, they’d be the same team as the person who turned them (whatever the role gets named)

#

It’s not fully like thralls, it’s more like a version of thralls that are better for classic gamemode

calm hare
#

Still that does go against the "No Teamswapping" rule for classic

#

The issue is this, say this necromancer role brings back someone. That someone knows who killed them and can then immediately target that person, reducing the threat overall without any need for deduction

bright pond
#

Ah, didn’t know that was a rule
But I was trying to avoid letting killers be targeted by removing any abilities had before dying, and muting them

whole widget
#

Then the revived person could still run circles around whoever killed them

calm hare
#

pretty much, or just run straight to them if they have a kill button

bright pond
#

Ah… I could think of more ways of stepping around that… but if there’s a rule against team swapping I’ll drop it

pilgrim (goose)
The pilgrim is the good guy version of the assassin they have to see things like somebody dragging a body or somebody double killing all by themselves those are suspicious things that gives a pilgrim an advantage but it's really hard to find other roles such as the identity fraud and assassin can just say that they're a pilgrim

viral dove
#

As far as revival roles go, I still prefer my idea where the duck would possess a dead body and use that to walk around and kill. Just not sure about how to balance it.

tawny dagger
#

it's a literally three stars

#

traitor (duck)
The traitor will just be decided at the start of the game but they will not know they are the traitor/duck and they appear as a regular goose to the player and all the ducks will know that they are the traitor once all ducks have died the traitor's ability will activate they will be alerted that they were duck and unlock the kill ability and they must avenge the ducks

#

Roles that cause team switching mess up with player motivations

Again, this isn’t specifically something that can’t be balanced, it just complicates player behavior. On the surface, it seems like they’d be interesting roles, but the balance of Classic+ would be disrupted too heavily. There’s less incentive to complete your original goals if they might end up changing partway through the game. Note that part of this also stems from the way Classic+ is designed with tasks being used as a game timer, so roles that might switch teams or cause team switching could belong in alternate game modes.
tawny dagger
#

it's not team switching they start off as a duck from the start of the game they just don't know it yet

calm hare
#

Roles that disable another roles’ ability aren’t as good additions as roles that add abilities
It’s better to have a role with an ability that is an addition to the game than something that is a subtraction. First, disabling another player’s ability isn’t as fun as having your own. Secondly, it’s difficult to balance the feedback of a disabling ability. Let’s say hypothetically that you could block the ability of killers. Well, since it’s a game of social deduction, we can’t actually give you feedback or you’ll be instantly able to identify killers. Therefore, you have to get a cooldown when you use the ability over everyone, kill ability or not. At that point, you as the ‘disabler’ also don’t get any feedback about whether your ability’s working as intended. Thirdly, from the perspective of the player you’ve targeted, at its best you’ve made their role unfun. At worst, they’re going to think the game is glitched.
So overall, these aren’t good roles. It’s not a matter of game balance, just that they don’t really add fun gameplay.
An extension of this are roles where you control another player’s actions. Really you’re just disabling their whole game at that point and the lack of agency for a player on the receiving end of that sucks.

tawny dagger

OK that makes more sense

The jump ward is secured to the desired position 15 seconds after the start of the round.
You can then move to a fixed position every 15 seconds.

Why isn’t the mimic called the cuckoo, mimic and cuckoo are very similar in the respect of how they well, mimic

#

Plus it’d fit the bird theme of the game

fervent pasture
#

it is because cuckoo is a different bird species and the goose team is made from specialist geese

#

all neutral birds is a different species

#

Cataloguer goose
this goose in specific fights against neutrals and helps find out who is a neutral and what they are, they can see who the dodo votes for each meeting (only with blind vote), they can see if a bird is affected by pigeon 5 seconds after they got infected (but not see if they are affected themself), they can see if a body they find is killed by a falcon or not, will have arrow pointing to a body eaten by vulture or pelican

maybe it can have more simple effect like detective where once each round they can see if somebody is neutral or not, or something else, i think it would be interesting to have a goose role who fights neutrals more and not ducks

cockateel's goal is to murder everyone

crow has an infinite amount of fake tasks when they do one of them a random player will die so basically crow has to do tasks to murder there winning condition is to be the last one standing

they charge at people to kill them and I will be exclusive to one day Known as Thanksgiving

Probably not a wise use of development time to work on something only used for one day

US

calm hare

honestly, if they were going to do some kind of thing for thanksgiving it would make more sense for them to use the Canadian version given that the devs are, ya know, canadian

so then Canada

calm hare

but as D20 said, it would be kind of a waste of time/resources to make something that is specific to only one day of the year regardless. I'd much rather see them working on other contents

oh or you can use it only for Thanksgiving break

that sounds a lot more better

The initial idea was that either the row or column of the killer is lit up. Then I thought about if the killer was alone in the fourth row, for instance. This role was in my map idea for a garden map, and I forgot to put it here (it could work with current maps without needing to add the garden map):

Hummingbird: a neutral role that collects flowers. Flowers have a chance to be dropped when someone does a task, or uses an ability (ex: the pigeon sneezing, invisible going invisible, sheriff killing). The hummingbird walks faster after not collecting a flower for a while. The win condition is to collect a certain amount of flowers which is dependent on the amount of tasks. There isn’t an arrow to point to a flower, and all players can see the flowers.

STORK - Neutral

  • Collect bodies to win! (Number of bodies to collect is exactly same as bodies Vultures have to eat to win)

  • Once a body drops, the storks can collect and pile the bodies to a random given spot. (can be a different spot for each body or same spot for all).
Once in the spot, no one else can see it.

my thought originally was different points just chosen randomly. it’s gonna be random every game. (within a game tho drop off can be one place or random, but every game it’s just different and of course, drop off point is visible to the stork only that too when he takes or bags a body).

they can figure out by catching them in the act of picking up. they can go and press space on the body, it’s gonna disappear then. like vulture.

this will essentially make it difficult tho for vultures to win, cuz now they have to compete for dead bodies.

ELECTROCUTER - DUCK (name could be ELECTRO, but its a dance style! I like Electro better tho!)

  • Kills by electrocuting 2 players.

How it works:

  • Electrocuter can handover one part of the ITEM (that can electrocute like a wire or sth) to one goose, say Goose A.

  • After another longer cool down they can handover the other part of this item to Goose B.

  • Once the item has been given to Goose A and B, if they meet they will get electrocuted and die.

Conditions:

  • The cool down time will be longer once Goose A receive the item, say normal cool down was 30 seconds, then the cool down will increase to like 40 seconds, before he can handover the other end of the item to Goose B). tried my best to keep it simple lmao

  • Cannot pass the item to many players at once. Its always 2. (Say if you wanted to pass the item to Goose C, Goose A will no longer have the item)

  • Cool down will remain 40 seconds, if above mentioned thing happens. But once electrocuted successfully, cool down will be normal for the first pass.
    hopefully understandable

  • Should geese know if they have the item, if a meeting was called? NO! or maybe YES. both could work as it can be changed. So maybe YES.

  • If Goose A got the item and a meeting was called, Goose A will still have the item after the meeting.

Could be interesting, but let’s see all the flaws with this one.

I see the idea behind that Electro Duck. It's clever.

A matter of positive and negative electricity colliding, right? Which results in that boom that kills them both.

If it leaves regular corpses behind, I imagine a lot of people will compare it to failed sheriff or a double kill.

It does sound like a slow role to kill people with, but I suppose the Demo Duck is the same in that regard.

Yeah, I don't really see a problem with this. I like it. It's a long set up, but it makes sense if it carries over between rounds.

When the curling duck kills an goose then the body will be pushed until it hits a wall in the direction that the duck kills the goose from, but you have a button to disable it like disabling entering fog on temple map

Name: Aahhh goose
Team: goose
Ability: when killed (not eaten by pelican) the upper half of the body lays on the ground while the lower half of the body can still run around (player has no vision) for ten seconds.

Or the top half can just follow the ghost of the deceased for ten seconds, but I think it makes more sense if they couldn’t see anything, other than maybe walls. And they are dead, so no meetings won’t save them and can’t talk while running around.

I can’t really think of a name. Homeostatic goose? I’m basing it off a chicken’s ability to run around without a head, but want the ability on the geese side so can’t call it a chicken. I suspect geese could somewhat do it, since it’s just muscle spasms and even humans kinda move after death, even if snakes and chickens are the animals most famous for it.

Gonna be great when invis does a drive by

faint goblet

Also what are people’s thoughts on a duck who can get one kill after death? Like regardless of the cooldown, they either their killer out with them, kill whoever walks over their body next, drop a grenade that explodes a few seconds later, or even if just the demo duck gets a buff and when they’re killed, regardless of their kill cooldown, they pass a bomb to whoever kills them (or pelican if eaten) which activated instantly instead of later. (Though having two bombs on the same person should be considered.)

Role: Tagger or Bounty
Team: Ducks
Win Condition: Win with Ducks

Information: The Tagger/Bounty is a duck that can tag one player per round for their teammates to kill. The tagged player that is killed will result in the ducks receiving a bigger bonus at the end of the round.

Tagging (and killing) the gravy goose would double the bonus while doing the same to the others would result in a bonus similar to the current gravy goose kill bonus.

The Tagger/Bounty Duck however would not receive a bonus for killing a player they tagged. Instead their teammate would have to kill the tagged player. The tagged player could be symbolized by a specific color or have the player show up in the HUD of the ducks. A tagged gravy goose, if killed by the Tagger/Bounty Duck, would only result in the normal gravy goose kill bonus.

Here's a twist. If a vigilante, falcon, or pelican kills a tagged player, they receive the kill bonus.

The tagged player would no longer be tagged after a body is reported or a meeting is called. Once the Tagger/Bounty Duck tags a player, they can then vent. Similar in operation to the Party Duck.

Any role cane be faked, some may be easier than others but the arguement of "they could be lying" can be applied to any role. It is baaically a better detective and a better canadian

roles that instantly out someone as their role are a no go, as it makes the entire game to be around them. If a role could instantly out the ducks on death, then what’s the point of playing the Canadian? That one you can talk your way out of or play off, but this just tells everyone “X IS DUCK”

#

When you’re making a role, a good idea is to have your foundation be simple enough as to be easily countered by a useable situation.
Canadian makes you report after a second? Well the Professional can’t report bodies, and the Cannibal can’t report a body it’s already eaten.
Morphling can easily frame someone? Not if they get followed to have people see them de-morph.
Identity Thief makes you unable to be caught? Well not when the geese start talking and realize that no one has seen you since the last meeting.

drifting light
#

Plus, the identity thief may protect you from watchful eyes, but it cannot protect you from a cold bullet. Or a hungry belly.

mint hollow
#

Had an odd idea for something that is sort of like a variant of the Canadian.

Occultist Goose
A goose who, when killed, curses their killer to reduce the walk speed of their killer by 50% for an amount of time equal to the standard kill cooldown.

So a killer has a harder time fleeing the body and might have to report it themselves just to get rid of it. Or they could try and flee, but if they're seen walking slow it can make them suspicious. But there are also counters to this, killing near hiding spots means the killer can potentially just jump into the hiding spot.

The presence of this sort of goose can cause the ducks to have to consider their escape from a kill a little more carefully before they make a kill on the chance that their target might cause them this debuff, changing the dynamic. It makes areas near hiding places far more attractive kill zones as the duck can use that to escape if needed, while out of the way places may not be a bit more risky because getting out of there slows you considerably.

Extra bonus points, if someone claims Occultist in private to someone, you never know if the person reporting the body of the Occultist is self-reporting to get rid of the curse, or if the killer managed to get away and left the body for someone else to find.

This is actually covered in the pinned doc:

Seagulls always appear in a group of three and on their own don’t do much. However if they manage to sneak up on their prey in their typical group of three, they are granted the ability to turn their role into a seagull as well. I have an idea for a pair of roles
Poisoner (duck) - can poison geese and neutrals, and the poison takes 45 seconds to paralyze (no movement or talking). The player will die in 15 seconds after being paralyzed. If a meeting is called while someone is paralyzed, a poison bottle will be on their banner like how a skull appears for dead players, and the paralyzed person cannot speak.

Doctor (goose) - will see a poisoned symbol over poisoned players (goose or neutral), and can give the poisoned player an antidote to get rid of the poison. If they are poisoned they won’t be able to give themselves the antidote however

drifting light
#

A few things:

  1. If the doctor can see if someone is poisoned, then that player is 100% confirmed not to be a duck. Roles that can do this are generally unfitting for classic/draft
  2. The doctor is a killstop. If the ducks press the kill button, someone is dying. Roles that disrupt this don't really fit for classic/draft
  3. Roles that add things are better than roles that take things away. If someone suddenly can't move or speak then at best you make them a bit frustrated and at worst they now think the game is bugged.

Also it would be kind of frustrating to have a great duck game, vote out someone for the win, only to lose to an executioner that has been dead silent. With dodo it works because that player is actively trying to get themselves voted. With exe it can just become luck for if your target's nane is thrown up.

#

If exe won along side the winning faction then it would be mich better, but that's not how ggd neutrals work.

spring cedar
#

Like I said,
"feels bad to lose to" reason

drifting light
#

As much as I hate summing up my opinion to that specific reason, I can see many many many moments where a random exe win just kind of kills everything.

#

So that is my main reason for why an exe role without some kind of major change wouldn't work.

#

Maybe if it was closer to the Scorned from Throne of Lies, where you have to mark someone and then get them voted out, and do that a few times.

spring cedar
#

I think you could possibly have some design space with an Exe-like role that cannot vote their target and cannot skip, though overall yeah.

Might also step into the Dodo's role if the Exe -> Jest mechanic sticks around.

drifting light
#

That's kind of the flip side of the coin. Let's say you're the exe and the first person to die is your target. Then what? Like you said earlier things would get odd if you become dodo, especially if there already is a dodo or even a dueling dodo pair.

spring cedar
#

The original Executioner from ToS was a neutral evil role whose only goal was to get one of the uninformed majority lynched. If their target died in some other way, they would instead become a Jester and change plans to get themselves lynched. Once their target is lynched, all they have to do is sit around and wait for the game to end because their win condition is fulfilled- this lets them work with mafia or other neutrals, although they have no direct line of communication.

Executioner in Town of Us, the AU mod inspired by ToS, has the same goal: get a specific crewmate ejected. Unlike ToS, the game immediately ends upon the ejection, which means the Exe can't work alongside impostors or other neutrals to achieve a win.

I think, if there was to be an Exe-like role in this game, it'd have to get more than one goose voted out. Possibly this as a description?

Cuckoo

bright pond
#

spring cedar
#

No, because if you kill someone you can't vote them out. :V

bright pond

confused, but cool

spring cedar
#

The idea is you'd have an ability in the round to pick someone, and then you'd have to try and get them voted out later. Possibly with a requirement like Mortician, where you have to stand still for a moment so you can't just mark someone running away from/standing near a body and then immediately start accusing them in the next meeting.

#

The biggest hurdle, I think, would be when you mark a neutral or duck- these shouldn't add to the Cuckoo's win counter because those are targets that geese want out naturally.

#

So the Cuckoo would have to have some sort of feedback for when their marked target turns out to not be a goose. An in-game counter could fail to increment after a marked target gets voted out, for example.

#

I think there's a good idea here, but it's very unrefined.

spring cedar

Dodo would win, because the Cuckoo's goal is to get marked geese voted out. Not ducks or other neutrals.

%role VIP(goose): All ducks know your location. Ducks need to keep you in their vision to prevent being penalized for killing you.
Ducks always get an arrow pointing to the VIPs live location like the Serial Killer. Above the VIP itself is a 10 second timer visible to ducks that counts down while in sight. If a duck wants to kill the VIP successfully, they have to keep the VIP in their sights for 10 seconds before the timer above the VIP transforms into a reticle, allowing for a normal kill until the VIP leaves their sight again. If a duck decides to be too hasty and kill the VIP without stalking, their next cooldown is doubled.

Role: Chicken role: neutral mechanics: when you are killed you do not actually die till a meeting is called. You have a small vision cone and cannot talk. Once a body or meeting is called you fully die. This is negated with pelican, professional, assassin and bomb duck. chicken wins with the geese if still alive.

Chicken can't speak and have limited vision yet can still move about but can easily be avoided it you know how to juke and hide. Vents also help. But it still indicates they got killed as they will be missing their head or upper body. They can be reported dead if the head or upper torso is found and reported. Once reported, another body is reported or a meeting is called, which can be fast or take a while, they are dead dead and are fully out. The main counters assassin is obvious. Pelican they basically eat you and are killed any ways when a meeting is called. As for the bomb duck they only leave legs and nothing left to run around with. Professional also counters the chicken as they make the body invisible when. Sheriff does not die when killing the chicken.

If a turkey role did exist. It'd probably be able to "pardon" someone by taking away a vote on someone else. (As an in-joke for the presidential turkey pardon every Thanksgiving) however, if they try to pardon someone without a vote that would place a vote on themselves. They'd have to be careful to not get voted out. Idk how'd it work though.

Stork (Neutral) - Wins by being the last player alive. In order to kill, the stork has to pick up packages that appear on the map and deliver them to a specific player, they do not know the name of the player they are giving it too, and will only know to give the package when a button to do so lights up. After a package is delivered, the player will die within the next 15 seconds (the time is randomized) and the stork can go and grab another package.

Rigger duck: this has been suggested a number of times. The reason it is rejected is that to an observer, a duck "rigging" a task is completely identical to someone doing it legit. Now you have people being voted out for "doing too many tasks" and that is not healthy for the game.

During meetings, you can imbue a single duck partner with a 25% faster kill cooldown, but you suffer from a 50% slower kill cooldown until you are the last duck left. The temporary buff resets after next meeting.

-Dove (neutral pair, replaces dodo):
These two are connected, so much so that when one of them dies, the living Dove is notified of the general location of the death. If the dove manages to vote out the bird who killed their partner, the Doves will win together.

yes, I thought of that. Since dodo wins when voted out, it makes sense that Dove would work the same way regardless of how many players are left. To balance things, perhaps the remaining goose could be given the ability to kill the duck in such cases, even if they don't naturally have a kill ability (but only have a limited time to do so until Dove automatically wins, similar to Pelican or Falcon. Seems a bit OP though, doesn't it?)

Crusader (duck)
crusader can only exist if there is a sheriff falcon/pelican and vigilante. crusader has two modes sword and shield. The sword mode is like a normal duck nothing special. shield protects the crusader from any attacks and the person who attacked the crusader will die but the crusader cannot kill while in the shield mode.

thrall duck
if thrall duck dies, he still counts as dead and cant vote, but can still walk around like a living bird, with the ability to grab a goose like thralls of a zombie duck does, also they can still talk to players but cant hear dead chat or see roles during meeting if that option is on. if he is killed he revives after 15 seconds like thrall does in halloween game mode and the body of thrall duck can only be reported when he is killed when he was really alive, not after he comes back as thrall

-Ranger (Goose):
You can kill anyone, but only when you are near 2 other birds. You also have a longer cooldown.

-Phoenix (Neutral):
Complete fake tasks to charge your ability (ability cooldown is something ridiculous like 500 seconds so you have to complete tasks to refresh it quickly). Use your ability on birds to make them automatically die when a meeting is called (but you can't report bodies yourself), but only if the meeting is called within 10 (or 15?) seconds of using the ability. Kill 3-5 birds (depending on lobby size) who called meetings and died by you to win the game.

Ranger Notes: Ranger will encourage the goose to actively stay separated from other geese, so that geese do not necessarily group up annoyingly, hopefully. Simply giving a kill button to a goose would be overpowered though, hence the cooldown is slowed

Phoenix Notes: Phoenix will provide a new type of playstyle where birds will hopefully be a bit more wary of instantly reporting bodies, since they may die if they report it quickly. And phoenix will also discourage some players from doing tasks together, since that friend of yours might be a Phoenix trying to charge their ability while you merely act as a temporary body-block for them from the ducks

Would definitely be situational. Would it be a single door or multiple doors from that task?

#

Like would it open both doors to a room that has 2 or just one side

viral dove

If there were a doormaster, it would have to be for a new map. The devs aren't currently interested in weakening the existing sabotages as the ducks are outnumbered and need all the tricks they can get.
