I hope this isn't too off-topic to relate, but same idea - Phantasy Star Universe once had a "Winter Fest" (I can't remember if it coincided with Christmas festivities or not) that wasn't ice and snow but lightning and storm themed.

The idea being you were all surviving the dark together.

It'd be neat to see Palia come up with unique holidays like that!

Aha! I found the data. "Winter Mission Carnival" aka "Thunder Fest" lasted from February 28th to April 10th, 2008.

So it did not coincide with Christmas but spanned a good ways in Winter to perhaps close to early Spring.

Honestly, the best in-game holidays and festivals I can name are the ones from WoW

They were mostly connected to something in the real world, but had its flair to it

(Also Darkmoon Fair and the fishing tournaments were awesome)

I like ingame events, as long as they're longer than a couple days so there's time to experience it all, especially around holidays irl. I'd love to witness a shimmerfly migration instead of fireworks on new years for example

I have limited experience with MMOs so, my "best experience" with seasonal / one-off events is still just Phantasy Star Universe, which tried really hard with the one-offs in particular to make them feel unique to the game's world.

^This is a problem I have even in Harvest Moon games, where time isn't relative to real life.

Events that take place at 6PM/12AM are hard for me to justify staying up for.

There's just not always that much to keep me up that long in-game.

I feel like there's a balance. Just randomly sticking people together doesn't necessarily do the trick. I think there's something to be said about people organically meeting each other and becoming friends. Those tend to be more long-lasting. When I play mmos I usually stay to myself until someone randomly talks to me until I spend enough time with them to feel comfortable to talk to. I can spend months in a game not talking to people if no one starts talking to me. I only did dungeons and raids in wow with the guild and a few regular pugs. Seeing as we’ve had the opportunity to spend time chatting in here things may be different in Palia as I’ve already reached the comfortable stage. As long as voice chat isn’t forced/encouraged that takes a lot longer and usually only where necessary.

That depends… Palia allows you to do activities you want and still progress through the game. And can access any area regardless of what skill level you are. Not many games allow a level 10 fisher to enter a level 100 fishing zone without dying (too high area with aggressive creatures you have to fight) or not be able to skill up anyway.

Yeah, I used autodeak sketchbook for close to 4+ years and then the app broke with my new tablet so I've been trying to find a new program. So far ibis paint is good but it doesn't let me import pictures to trace.

Yeah file size cap is 256kb, emote sizes are like you said but the resolution isnt.. weird, I know.. so if you work in 500x500px you'll have higher resolution when it downsizes than you would if you worked in the original size

The way the worlds were handled in that game is there's several planets to be on, and each planet generally had about 3-15 people on them at a given moment

Even though I've seen raids/events that definitely hit 50 or more. I didn't know the cap in that game.

Built in 2015, the i5 processor which was good at the time, and a 970 gtx + 8Gb ram. I just recently update to 16Gb and looking for Black Friday occasion to buy a SSD (always on HDD) 👀

So in that way I hope the pc will last one or two more years before the big next change. And I intend to build a new one for Palia so I can enjoy it with max graphics and not just to be ok haha. This game has so much to offer
