there won't be any "servers" for different areas. Different people can play on whichever server they want. As far as language, they will be trying to get the game into different languages at launch, but won't be able to focus on that during the pre-alpha phase

i think having a way to look for "every little thing" is good to have. but it should be togglable.. or maybe in the case of recourse gathering. having an item or something you use to detect the stuff around you. is a really nice mechanic to make you feel like your on the hunt!

I'd say it's normal for this game specifically because it's billing itself as a 'chill' MMO when most of the competition follows a grind and compete formula. With the recent surge in popularity of games like Animal Crossing, Minecraft, and other low-impact titles, this will be one of the first attempts at taking that feeling and putting it into an MMO format, so the excitement is partly over 'something new' and partly because Palia is expected to cater to a demographic that often gets ignored in MMOs.

I love BOTW but haven’t gone near my switch in a while now - I like story of seasons: pioneers of Olive town though it’s so cute

i enjoyed my time in portia that was a really good game but lacked the social aspect and really slowed down towards the end

My Time in Sandrock demo is out and fixes many of the issues Portia had with game pacing/mechanics

the gated crafting i didnt mind as there was plenty of other stuff you could do while waiting i hate time gated things where you dont have much else to choose from doing

Please no time gating. I get to play in spurts. Games with daily tasks I fall so far behind because I only get to play a couple days a week. Daily tasks in addition to "do as much as you want toward progress in one sitting" work great for both types of players. Too much adulting to game every day anymore, which is why I left retail WoW for Classic WoW. I hope Palia devs understand that some of the audience is going to be logging in much less than once a day and diversify their options for players.

Yeah, the WoW community is hit or miss these days. I work nights so mainly play solo anyway, so I've missed a lot of toxicity. I also joined the WoW Classic Hardcore community to try to level to max without dying, grouping, or buying/selling on the auction house and that has been the most amazing experience in a game ever! The community there is beyond supportive and I've made so many new friends. I'm thinking more about the amount of content retail WoW locked behind reputations gained through daily quests. I like that in Classic I can rep grind and profession level at my own pace. I hope that Palia limits the amount of content locked behind time-gating to specialty crafting/gear or better yet, has none. If the game is compelling gameplay, you don't have to trick the players into logging in daily to grind tasks, they'll log in every chance they get to play the compelling game.

It’s hard to compare wow with Palia lol we barely know anything besides that Palia is a cozy community simulation mmo. Combat is at the root of what defines wow, it even drives the professions econ too. I’d say Palia is going to be like a multiplayer combination of Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing mixed with sims house design and some crafting

Palia may end up being a lot more mundane and simplistic than some people care for, but I also think that's fine because so many games already exist to cater to gamers with more high stakes interests.

I'm hoping it'll be the sort of MMO I can play alongside other games, so I can oscillate between chill and challenging depending on my mood.

That makes sense, there’s a ton of people coming from wow, hoping it’ll be a better mmo when there’s no way any new mmo can compare with the 17 years of content that wow has.

Maybe I’m being a bit cynical in thinking that but I have many friends who play a new game for a couple months and leave it for the next new thing

I jumped from WoW to the FFXIV train a couple of weeks ago and I've been having the best time of my recent gaming life. I especially love how the crafting/gathering works. It's a breath of fresh air and I can't wait to see what Palia brings us in that department 🙂

Personally I don’t enjoy the aesthetic of FFXIV but I’m glad former wow players are enjoying it, Blizzard-Activision has treated you guys really unfairly lol

mmo have a lot of compatition atm and with new world releasing that has such a huge oney pool and hand picked devs from other mmos atm palia has the appeal of more chilled fun and relaxed gameplay to new world i think is being more seriouse and elitist

What i love most about xiv which i see in this game...

The ability to main a charactar and do everything on it..

Most other games you are locked into a class and even the crafting is limited..

To where you need multipul charactars..

the things i like most about all the mmos is the gathering the fishing the crafting the cute pet collections and the transmog collection for cute looks i have always been big into the side stuff of games collections crafting and fishing and archeology was always something that filled my isomnia time well

I wasn't trying to compare play style, but rather quest frequency. It doesn't matter if it's a kill quest, gather quest, or farming quest, the daily grind just-to-make-you-log-in stuff isn't compelling content. I hope they avoid that pitfall.

It sounds great on a white board, who wouldn’t want a new exciting quest that’s there for you every day? However, it’s the design of the quest that’s important and if it helps the narrative in a meaningful way, not just the same 2-3 mundane activities
