like personally, one of my favourite recent games is Valheim, and even though my favourite thing about it is the building & exploring etc. some of my most memorable moments in that game were because there was risk, which is why people are worried about the "no death" thing. challenge and risk makes the reward feel better. it's a valid concern. we already know the game is going to be super chill, I'm not going to be playing Palia to die a thousand times, I'll go play Sekiro if I want that, but it doesn't mean people can't want risk. hopefully the devs will find a good way to keep it interesting without death. I have high hopes that they will but there's no need to dismiss the concern

There is off the shelf tech like SpatialOS or Coherence that leverage this stuff, and there are custom solutions that studios have or are working on. leveraging this stuff in the future is what virutal worlds will depend on.... Launch day server issues were because in the old days you actually had to permanently provision hardware that you owned, but now everything runs in AWS or whatever, is dynamically load balanced, and architected to dynamically scale, so I would not expect any MMO designed in the last few years to have issues like that any more (but there's always incompetence and bad luck lol).

Many games have hand-gliders, but what makes Palia's gliders special? What's the purpose they serve? Is it just alllowing us to just get down from a high point faster? To speed up traversal?
