It def has savings, but i just dont agree w/ the value. It ends up being 30-35 cents worth per day. And it just doesn't feel like it values my time. esp the fact that it's literally a "pay for an incentive".

I fully expect them to be banking on the fact that the recipient of this kind of 'gift' will be unhappy with their lootbox pull, and the gifter feels bad and pays for additional lootboxes to try and get them the thing they actually want, spending more than what the outfit itself costs if one were to purchase it directly

Imo it becomes gambling when you stand to lose something and/or gain nothing from the transaction. So an example in this case would be like if I bought a lootbox and paid $35 but only received an outfit worth $15. What frightens me is if the "gifting" aspect is how S6 plans to circumvent that. The player is buying something for someone else, so they're already agreeing to give something away and gain nothing in return.

If it was tiered then maybe it wouldn't be as predatory but yeah, it's still very much on the lines of gambling. I'd even rather they had done a "your shop" system like in League (since it seems they got this idea from there) where you get discounts on random outfits.

Just out of curiosity, I went to check League's mistery skin gifting, you're guaranteed at least a 975 RP skin (which is a bit under $10?) and the "gift" itself costs 790 RP (a bit over $5). But again, why would I do that when I can get a specific skin my friend wants instead?

-this remains true, at least.

Palia will monetize cosmetic items
-this mostly still holds true. I would argue the voidy landscape with its exclusive "toggle ground collision" feature is starting to toe the line when the entire endgame revolves around decorating your plot, and house tour rewards being based on "reacts" means that landscapes can theoretically be an advantage, just in an obscure, roundabout way (paid landscapes can make a mediocre plot look impressive enough to wow someone who otherwise wouldn't be impressed enough to react)

Palia will not monetize things you earn through gameplay
-if item codes from paid merchandise count as monetization, the madrinas dragon plush is partially breaking this promise due to the fact that there will be a visually identical version that's earnable later on, with the only difference being the name of the item (which no one will be able to see if it's on your plot)

You won’t need to buy loot boxes or get content through a rotating store
-you will need to if you want to gift your friend an outfit, (unless we're all wrong about this "mystery gifting" being lootboxes)- also, while few in number, there have been limited time items that rotate out of the shop.

With the fact the spawn rates were awful, along with sometimes you just couldn't pick up the chapaas.

but the devs seem more focused on making flames erupt from spell circles on premium costumes

it's hard to say exactly, but as an example, there have been some sections of the game with platforming, like the tower or some of the temples

however even if those sections are fine when it comes to design, you really want to have a very fluid and satisfying set of character animations for it to feel good

i'm not really skilled enough to be a character animator for a video game, but if it was, i would probably try and really study a lot of animations from various nintendo games, like super mario odyssey or breath of the wild or smash bros to get a feel for what kind of motion looks satisfying to coincide with player inputs

but i enjoy the game regardless, i get that it's not really primarily a platform game

but it still does feel a little awkward when you fall into a void or water and it just fades to back and places you on a valid spot with no "game over" or death animation

not even being able to swim feels a little weird imo

or if you shoot an animal and it just instantly turns into a bag instead of falling over like ragdoll physics so you could loot it

in the Q3 one they talked about plans for latest gen consoles and an out of open beta release on both Pc and consoles for this year

in their Q4 report they specified the "this year" timeframe to first half of this year for the console release

but in the end those are just plans and nothing actually happen unless its officially announced by S6 whenever they feel like doing so

I really don't know what to tell you because I had never seen someone complain about it. I think overprepping/free roles are great for people who are starting out in the game and need to make some cash and either can't do fishing due to accessibility reasons or simply can't grind to get all those golden starred fishes.

If hosts don't want to, they can choose not to do overprepping. I've been and hosted parties that forego the "free" roles or overprepping.

So if they really remove it or nerf it in any way, it's only going to drive people further away from doing cooking parties tbh.

i only participated in a few cake parties, but i think the sheer amount of time and effort it took just to organize them (with a whole unofficial website dedicated to ppl signing up for roles being created!) was worth way more than the gold the organizer/participants received. honestly never had a host who was a drill sergeant about it, but i can’t really blame any host that would be like that either. esp considering how buggy cooking is. and poor switch players having to drop all the time. the ones i participated in were so well organized, with players who were friends of the host, and stuff still went awry!

There are definitely many hosts who are wonderful and try to make it as chill as possible for beginners, and most will simply be understanding. I remember during one party I crashed twice and the host was kind enough to wait for me to come back

looking back on the cake parties i did participate in, it’s absolutely bonkers literally the most organized layout (rugs under each station to denote which role each person had), the ppl i knew who were there were chill ppl and i trust the organizer wouldn’t invite anyone who wasn’t chill, and still there was so much

Palia overall suffers from what's refered to as "marketing myopia". They refuse to listen to so much of their playerbase and ignore customers needs, meanwhile you have so many other games who have had to give in to customers demands because they're aware players are their bottom line.

Recently the Pokemon Card Trading Game announced they're reworking their trading card system because players were unhappy with it. Brighter Shores reworked their combat because players complained about the chapter locked approach. Riot had so much pushback from removing free chests they saw actual losses. S6 just refuses to listen and implement actual solutions and only keeps making odd choices that only fix a surface level problem but not the core of the issue.

Which is also why so many of us can only see the game as nothing but a cash grab anymore because they're so focused on short term gains.

Yep. Most games have that. I know "technically" it has it on switch, but that isn't from Palia itself. It's from the switch having their generic/general warning.

Like some have pointed out here, it can be worse on lower settings. The snowball flash was also way worse than this. And take in account that if you're spamming smoke bombs like most people do, it's more noticeable.

Okey I'm not gonna go too off here since I already got a warning but the problem with the flashes, as many have pointed out here already is that 1, the flashes have been increasing in number in the game and 2, there are no warnings aside from when you first create your character. I'm not someone with photosensitive issues and I play way flashier games, but even I can tell it's completely unnecessary and a health hazard that this game has so many flashes or flat out white screenings that can trigger migraines or worse for some people.

They could also have an alternate path that is easier for folks. I'd like an option for a skip tho (whether it's fade to black or eggs being given), since i personally struggle with heights-- but i know im in the minority when it comes to that.

I was thinking yesterday about elderwoods entrance. So when running around I was checking and we only really have north bahari with the blocked cave entrance (as in villager chat, we know you have to go through bahari, to go through the woods to then be able to visit the capital). Which then led me to think, how did Subira get here if the cave is blocked and there are no ships, no one manning said docks in bahari etc...

So then my head went to S6 just magically shoving a door in places, like they did with west side 😦

They did say the staff is important to Elderwoods in some way, so people will likely have to go through the temples and finish the puzzles to be able to get out of the "starting zone"

Not to go off topic but as a comparison, Honkai Star Rail has an "early access" mode available so you're able to do events or get to certain zones without needing to complete the main story. You're not progressing the story, just having access to the zones. It would be nice if Palia could implement something similar or simply just a way to aid them in finishing or skipping Gales (since that's the one most people have issues with)

it’s late (cuz i woke up 👀 ) but even in wow/ffxiv you can travel to areas without unlocking stories (some areas you need to do specific quests tho if their hard to reach areas, like space xD) you’d be able to talk to npcs just won’t be able to do quests there until you hit the level/do the quest chain that requires the npc to have quests . depending how they want us to discover elderwoods, if it’s just going through a gate like to bahari than i don’t see why ppl can’t go look around. but if it requires the ||staff|| then yea you’d need to finish the temples and if that’s the case they’d have to go do the adjustments needed for them

Yeah, they are pretty much weird shaped building in that respect.

If you use them in conjunction with the group select feature, you can get up to some silly shenanigans

For the most part I've used them for making hills, plateaus, mmm I made a cave once. that one was a bit weird to figure out all the proper intercecting angles.

It should be considering the only thing to do is decorate. That's why I get extra irritated with all the decor things. At least fix that stuff considering it's the only thing I can do and it's the only "content" you consistently add 😅

If I had kids , I personally wouldn't let them play online games. But the fact is Palia is marketed to a younger audience, and despite how much precaution and measures parents can take, stuff can still fall through the cracks.

My point is, and I say this also as someone who studied business, that if your game is marketed towards a younger audience, you need to also take precautionary measures as a company. Reason why corporate responsibility is pushed for nowadays.

As much as I agree with this, to some extent, that isn't always possible. Especially when, especially now (at least in the USA, not sure if it's different elsewhere), it's getting to the point where people have to be working 24/7 with the economy or whatever else. It's just not possible sometimes when someone is overworked, or working at the time.

Not to mention since the game is on switch-- some kids will be playing whatever game on the switch when theyre outside (whether that's school, or just outside in general.)

It just isn't as easy as it sounds sometimes on the surface level.

It's marketed for teens and up, and there really aren't any measures that could be added to that without violating strict data protection laws regarding minors. I worked a video game store when I was younger, and you wouldn't believe how many parents would demand a refund for a clearly marked mature game they bought for their young child, despite us trying to talk them out of buying it in the first place. I don't think that's at all on the people who made the game.

Technically it's an option, but it's not very obvious because it's under "streamer mode (chat off)."

And, i'm not sure if it's fixed yet (i'll check tomorrow), but it's bugged currently and still shows the chat sometimes when you go to different zones. And sometimes even then, it'll slip through

A few more years and people/parents will still be worked too thin, and have a hard time doing much of anything. I grew up in that kind of situation, and I had to learn a lot myself because my mum was working too thin, was a single mother, and was genuinely working 24/7 to make sure we had a house/roof.

And the economy is getting worse. At least in USA. It isn't as easy as some people might think. And even then, some parents are doing their best (from what i understand) to have safety precautions, but sometimes it's just straight up difficult if there's little to none in a game, like Palia.

I run with a group of friends that have bounced around various MMOs for years, and we have on many occasions taken in younger players we've encountered to form a protective mentor bubble. Mind you, they haven't been under 13s, but we still formed a familial unit around them despite most of us not having kids of our own. Palia has been a different experience though. I find people just tend to discourage others from revealing their age at all, which is a good thing. That's why I can't really wrap my head around posts I see where people only want to play with certain age groups. Some of the nicest people I've met in Palia are much older than me, and I've enjoyed their company so much! I've been typing this out for so long my point is probably irrelevant by now, but I may as well hit enter!
