Strange, maybe someone was ninja-ing around before you sucking them all up :P
ill posrt these two pics then explain
notice the window on the right where the output section is. if you right click that you can drah it up for some reason
and down
does that all the the crafters
I've never known them to do that
i just discovered it by accident

This would be good. Even if it's 10-15 a day. Other games have some each day you can get so this would be nice
I wouldnt mind spending if I had the money but being poor isn't by choice believe me
At one point I had the money to do so but any more money is a constant struggle
One can only wish though right?
The moment I get stable income I’m putting money into this game so I 100% get it
I want that cool dracula looking outfit 😂
There's like a really cool Jacket in the premium store but I have 0 Palia coins. Maybe in the future 😂
In Palia there's one thing I've learned use the envi to my advantage lol, whether fishing, hunting, etc. when mining I jump up on the rocks to get more power and force to mine 😂
they were already linked it right after that comment 😅

I was thinking what is the point in having multiple crafters they can also double as storage? and allow you to craft materials, say copper and palium at the same time. . . are there other reasons and how many should i plan on having of each?
I didn't even know you could throw snowballs yet 😂
Luck is on my side today. The first two are from Zeki's prize wheel, and the last two are from Lucky coins. 🥹
nothing like star quality garlic! 😄
I didn't have high hopes after the ingredients, but it ended well. Immediately after, I fished out a waterlogged chest. It gave me the indoor garden!
I feel like the RNG gods taunt me when my character laughs at getting ingredients.

SQ lettuce when? (sidenote i know if i were to plant it it would be sq but like :c)
lettuce isn't real, it can't hurt you

Oh? Do you find hunting is a bit say... Slower after the fix and more broke animation than usual?
Ah that was after but the recent one do you find it slower to draw a bow and unable to quick shot anymore? And at full draw the character does a little broken movement unnatural.
I wanna know too but compared to other issues it doesn't bother me much since hunting still works, just not at a fast pace as before and I adapted to it.
And yea, most priority is visual stuff that might affect people's health which I most concerned about needed to be fixed.
The game has flaws and imperfections but that's what they are... A game in which still in trials and errors to become a better version of it. They add some, they break some and fix some of it and I'm glad they did while juggling between platforms. I don't know about you but I still enjoy the game at first and till now even with all those flaws and inconveniences, find funny in those imperfections and laugh about it is how I made memories.
i have a new lot for next week. its not flashy or fancy but i like it

I guess people that play the game through a direct download from the official Palia site isn't eligible for the super shiny badge? You have to share your stats from your steam or Nintendo account to get it?
hmm i guess so, my question to that then is how would they know who is who, as some ppl (i know i did) cut off the username…
You can still post if you use the in game launcher. Many in there who use the launcher have shared some of their favorite memories in game and/or screenshots of pics taken in game and/or their skill levels
Highly encouraged by WizardCrab
#🎉│2024-wrapped message
oh yeah, I just went ahead and did it (and asked in the comment at the same time) because someone else mentioned only having the standalone launcher right as it opened. WC confirmed for me that sharing a memory instead is fine
when I posted it looked like it gives the role automatically (it was very fast), so as long as you're just following the spirit of the channel I don't think they'll be too picky about the specifics!
ah ok
i think i misunderstood and that it was only for steam and switch users as something to get on those respective apps and wasn’t something in the discord
I feel like the steam and switch users were probably the least confused
they did kinda forget about the rest of us in the explanation
Can confirm. If you just participate in the channel the role is automatically given. There are no barriers.
thank you for the confirmation

No... but in the Steam release trailer your promotional department did include a "salad" asset on the place setting. Among other things
So... while we are talking about things that aren't real...
I also started a spreadsheet for all the instances of prop assets being used instead of things players will have access to. If you would like to see.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zp39fx-qVZXTmg313ADgrY-VLdgAivruFtDWSdd1PUs/edit?usp=drivesdk
Though I am only up to 0.181 & the Steam trailer has so many assets that it made me realize the current formatting I was using for my spreadsheet wasn't going to work. So to say that it's a work in progress would be generous
Please don't mistake this for "hate mail." This is simply my attempt to point out moments where what was promoted & what was delivered, were not the same. Which lead to community backlash, either big or small. Over time it adds up, & I wouldn't do this if I didn't have an undying love & passion for Palia. & want to see it do well.

Also if the "press package" could be updated with content that is not from the beta trailer
Or... some of the things that are in the beta trailer could be addressed at some point.
That would be greatly appreciated for those of us who were not chosen to be PaliaPartners.

im going to say no and put it more down to the servers being on brand aka weekend palia is hard to play due to the server connection issues (it isnt you) the best bet is to try restarted the game a few times or give it a hot minute with people being done with work and the holidays starting alot more users are trying to connection at the same time sometimes you just get denied
no ETA on a fix and defo wont be one anytime soon as again holidays so no one at work ( AWS probs has a skeleton crew or so i hope)
Am I the only one with error code 403?
nope ironiclly support links to this
https://support.palia.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/32490578291220-Getting-login-error-code-403-after-updating-to-the-Patch-0-186
but tbh i bet in #💻│tech-help and #🦋│issues-discussions most probs just relogged a few times
since depending how you play the game it can bonk out mid connection attempt (aka if you use steam/switch it cant get your log in details correctly so it assumes they are wrong)
for the default launcher it could of added a space in the email or password
Just keep trying, it takes multiple log in attempts since the "fix" last week
Ah thank you, I didn't notice that, I would like to thank you and wish you a Merry Christmas
most if not all error codes can be fixed with just restarting the game some go as far as fully restarting their computers but eh im lazy~

I second that. Tiny dragon goes out of their way to edit videos that no longer work and credit the users who either find or help along the way to work out fine details to help people be appreciated and for others to enjoy the game they want to or shoukd be able to since half the decor glitches have to be done since decor doesn't work as intended

He pretty much started the whole glitch house trend. Idk how he was never offered to be a palia partner
I've shared my feedback directly, but here goes for the community.
Cosmetics: Mainly designed for Female/Feminine players. Masculine cosmetics can be applied equally. However, Feminine Specific Cosmetics get special emotes/etc. like the witches broom.
Decor: So many sets are lacking. Like, Ravenwood does not have a Coffee Table, or a Bookshelf. New additions add to sets that are already overblown, like the Kilima set. There's a new curtain specifically for it, but not for the sets that are basic.
There are other things like, breaking more things than they fix, and bugs that persist over several patches.
The witches broom doesn’t work on the masc players? /gen
I honestly had no idea :o
It does work, but the set itself does not work with masculine/male players. It's a more feminine outfit that just does not work with male players. You're basically the Bearded Lady.
it does, they are probably just referring to the fact that we have 3 glider outfits that are feminine and 0 masculine options
That
and well all outfits that are clearly designed for the feminine bodytype look horrendous on the masc one but the reason for that is rather obvious
And that
Ohhh I see :o
thank you for clarifying <3
Also ty as well!

Tamala has a Ravenwood bookshelf in her room, and I NEED it.
Side bar, but I hope we get raised ceilings in all rooms someday. Many of the chandeliers are so low.
I don't take that as hate mail! Thanks for putting this list together! It's super helpful. When folks collect issues and put them together it makes it a lot easier for us to prioritize. No promises here because there might be good reasons for changes, but this is great.
Made a mistake of looking at the reddit again
Someone posted WC's monetization post out there and of course everyone's coming out to call people selfish and lazy and entitled
I still want to retain some kind of passion to hope things improve and make suggestions but seeing these kind of people who keep insulting anyone who doesn't say everything is perfect is tiring lol like if they think the game is perfect and keep being awful and anything but cozy to others then what playerbase am I even hoping things improve for
I've seen people call others entitled and whiny and being mean towards S6 for being persistent about the snowball issue too and just
seeing people bare their teeth over "hey wouldn't it be cool to earn a lil hat from farming" just gives me another reason not to come back cause why would I wanna play alongside someone treating others like that
it's wild that the horror game fandom I'm in is so much cozier and kinder than the cozy game community lmkajhsd
it's a Thing for whatever reason but

Are we getting bee-keeping or am I reading into things too deep?? 😑 I just keep seeing bees in the new stuff, and I’ve been finding books with recipes involving beeswax. Of all the skills to add to the game or activities that seems odd but not out of the realm of possibility?
I'd say it's possible. Can't speak for s6 personally but I'd like to think its something they could add in the future
I guess I’m just seeing if anyone else is thinking this lol
would hope that animal husbandry (including bee keeping) would be a thing in the future, but we'll have to see if the game will get there first
Back when this Discord first came into being (pun intended) there was a running joke about beekeeping being something people wanted in the game.
If it's tied to an Animal Husbandry skill I wouldn't expect that until Elderwoods, but otherwise it wouldn't be difficult for them to just make a "crafting machine" that's a beehive that just outputs honey every so often.
Yeah I was thinking that too. Just like the glow words
(though afaik I expected some sort of Alchemy with Tamala to be the next skill, though based on how poorly received she's been as a character they might have nixed that.)
i could see it that you would need to put in a bee to make honey (like one bee can make a stack or so of honey) and depending on which bee you put into it gives different honey
Also , I just keep thinking about RuneScapes summoning skill for some reason , like there needs to be animal stuff
Doesn’t mean they can’t add a new character
That would have to be inputting queens , just from what I know of my dads bee hive
Hmm indeed!
Bees?
Seeing this talk about "not real lettuce", this also reminds me: Official response, followed by a comparison picture of trailer vs. the one that was already in game. And people wonder why there's trust issues with S6.
I think he only meant it as a joke 😅. We were told lettuce will be released to us at the right time. Back then when they gave us the lettuce by mistake.
I know that specific comment was meant as a joke. I'm just saying it reminded me of when they actually - with complete seriousness - straight up tried to tell us "no, your eyes are deceiving you".
No argument there. I hope one day we get the big snail as well
I hope to one day raise my own Ormuu and Peki
I need a riffroc.
same
PEKIS YES PLEASE

folks throwing shade we only got one snail fren, meanwhile i've been here three years and still haven't seen the peki Delaila keeps saying i should raise 😭

is there anything you can tell us about Communities 🥺 ? is it in it's final form or will there be new developments in 2025? what about that neighborhood bingo that was accidentally in Bahari many patches ago, will we be seeing more of it? just seems everyone forgot about communities and I thought it had so much potential.

Really wondering what this new year will bring for Palia and if f2p pets/cosmetics that aren't basic and attainable without irl currency are in the works/devs have changed their stance? I've never really played a game that actively has nice paid cosmetics while having no options available to f2p, nor even any ways to get premium currency without paying like login rewards, dailies ect or in-game events with pets/comsetics/emotes/gliders as prizes for hard work. Also really hoping for more furniture tints or if we could personally pick colours we like with better but more expensive modification kits. A big part in potentially spending money on a game for me is how much the game rewards the player for playing and enjoying the game besides the regular gameplay and having played games with paid cosmetics like Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, Runescape, Sky, Genshin Impact, and Infinity Nikki I'm still feeling Palia's lacking in its options for customizable Avatars. I'm someone's who's used to slow game updates though and definitely hoping for some improvements in that regard!

I have to say that some people just never happy, no matter what you do. I think Palia is amazing, and you can feel in every little aspect that the game was designed with loving hands. For me this worth every little penny. I didn't know but I waited for this game in the last 10 years. And now I want you to stay, because I need Palia to help me through the hard days. Do I need 10-20 costumes? No. Will I buy them? Yes! Thank you for working on this game!
Also I love these new outfits where there is more color option for the same dress! I love it. My only wish is more costumes with separate skirt options. Longer skirts too. (1950's style maybe?) I will buy it whatever it costs. 😄 ❤️

I feel you on the 10-20 costumes
Probably more in the long run 👀
I want all the Cosmetics 😅 and little four legged babies ❤️
I don't like how pets work in this game but outfits are everything
me still wishing the inquisitor's lantern had been a pet v.v
i feel this, our community has maxxed out its members and we could use more options as well.

To say phrases like "some people are never happy", here especially, is demeaning to the people who have been spending months sending feedback and being involved in discussions with the things they are unhappy with, with the ultimate goal for this game to be better and more welcoming/appealing to more players.
Like I'm glad you have the economic means to spend hundreds on their microtransactions, but few are in that privileged position.
I don't think WC made that post with the intention of getting the reaction it did, aka so many people coming out to call others entitled, never happy, etcetc.
I do think it's an interesting reaction, given that most of the critic I've seen are the same things that alpha testers (the ones still around at least) have mentioned echoing before.
It's like big company was talking about feedbacks on smaller groups of people and their "fans" come out attacking the smaller groups of people when a big company's intentions was not telling fans to go, "if anyone disagreed with me, please attack them on my behalf." This is not what #💬│palia-discussions is about and i wish minions stop doing that.
Developers knows that there will be some of us who are passion about the game and wants what best for the game. If other people don't like what that some of us said, its important to be civil and respectful as you talks about it. If you not willing to be nice and civil, then discussion channel might not be the best place for it. Developers are not asking us to be disrespectful to each other but was willing to take in all feedbacks (if they cared to.) that it.
i just want an earnable outfit or two but ig im an entitled child for wanting something so simple
A lot of the criticism around cosmetics isn't that a cash shop exists at all, most people are completely understanding that a f2p game needs a way to generate income. That is not the problem.
What most people are bothered by, and criticize the game's monetization model for, is that there are NO earnable cosmetics, save for nameplates and.... drumroll fishing bobbers. (lmao)
There is no way to showcase any kind of visual progression on your character, save for the color of the tool you're holding. In other games, you might see a knight dress up in armor, or a mage dress up in robes, etc, and they get fancier/more elaborate outfits to wear as their character gets stronger. This is basically how visual progression works.
In Palia, you can't even earn skill-themed outfits, to show off your progression in a skill. I don't think it's too much to ask that players be able to earn one or two outfits per skill, without having to pay a premium price for it.
Fairy outfits? Hero outfits? Hot dog suits? Sure, make those premium, that's fine! But having to pay a premium just to show off your love for the farming skill, or the furniture building skill, or mining, etc.... That's not cool to me.
honestly.. that's so wild that we can't even express what we wants without being attacked for it :x
im not going to bother to voice my concern anymore if it means ill just get attacked everytime
I want a fishing outfit so badly tho
I hope they do something for levels above 50
I don't want millions trophy, please adjust rewards to something earnable x.x
this just in, s6 is not only ableist but elitist!
/s bc it isn't just in we knew this
Right. Like, if I buy a premium outfit in the store, it could technically be tehmed after a skill, people aren't going to think... "oh they really liked that skill", they may think "oh they just like how it looks!". Which i mean, that's completely valid.
But, like... I would much prefer to show clothing, that I earned via a skill in some way, that I actually enjoy that skill.
I bought the builders outfit way back when, because I mean, yeah I thought it was cute lol, but the other main reason was because I really enjoyed furniture crafting and decorating. And I thought it'd help express that. ...Which, it technically does, to me, but i'd like others to see that too at a glance.
Earning that would of gave it more meaning, i think. Felt more personal in some way, and just... again, would express I really worked towards it. If it was an outfit to earn, it'd get seen more and stuff. especially because I don't keep my plot open all the time, or just invite strangers over all the time.
- To clarify, I am not saying I want the outfits that are premium now, to be earnable in that sense. Just trying to give an example of what i mean and how i feel with something I already got! I don't regret that specific purchase.
WC is - the - monetization guy, if anyone wants to hear the communities feedback on monetization its gonna be him...

i hope i worded that right. i just re-read it and it looks like word salad. Oops.
And it would be so much easier to recognize skill based earned outfits because honestly I'd never recognize the "skill themed" ones from the cash shop because they focus so much on 5000 new outfits I couldn't keep up or pay attention. Or care really.
tl;dr:: i just want to showcase i like making furniture
when we said we want earnable outfits or anything, we do not means more monetization.
I don't even think anyone was really complaining all I saw only good constructive conversation so I'm not sure why people are being insulted for that 💀
Yeah, exactly. Be easier to recognize, and as something we have talked about before, it'd also just... give incentive for other players to work on other skills, if it has an outfit or clothing piece they liked
Skill themed outfits lost value by selling them vs earning them because they're just lost in a sea of Visual Effects Mess
/light hearted jestering
Yes, give me a way to brag about my fishing addiction besides the massive unicorn fish tower on my plot
i hope it’s something that because the areas are small that maybe it comes out later once zones expand and we meet more npcs/guild vendors etc so there’s room to breath and aquire all these things, personally i agree that they can have fancy emotes and outfits, pets in the premium store, they can adjust prices if needed (though they won’t from my understanding). i understand why they don’t want to do earnable currencies, but i’d really like the quests or guild vendors to have those free cosmetics, free pet(s), name plates like they did with the recent one. not saying just because i am a “free” player that i won’t ever buy something, i thought about it a few times and stuff happend irl so i didn’t, but palia isn’t a competition to see who can spend the most money to support the devs, just being players of the game is enough most of the time
I honestly used to hope for this a lot too, until i read their business model and stuff. It doesn't seem like it will, unless they've changed their stance. Which I think WC at least mentioned that they were wanting to do a future post on that stuff again, right?
yea the last posts from wc while eye opening to how they want to run that part of the game, left kind of a sour note for me so i’m just going to wait and see what happens and for that other blog post that was mentioned
And this is why I like the idea of earnable outfits via actual skills. So it can showcase that a lot more!
I completely understand that.
Either way, at least we can earn some outfits on Infinity Nikki in the meantime
like how in ffxiv after x levels you get a class set
Speaking of fishing, new fish when dangit (hopefully in Elderwoods)
The other aspect of why I dislike the whole "zero earnable cosmetics" thing, is for me, wanting more variety of earnable rewards and things to do in the game that would make me want to keep playing.
If I don't have a goal to work towards in a game, I get very bored very quickly, and often stop playing entirely.
Which is what happened with me in palia- the moment I got bored of "decorating house" I felt like I had nothing to do or work towards, because 99.9% of the earnable rewards in palia are some form of home decor, or materials used to build home decor. So... I stopped playing. And any attempt to sell me cosmetics in that situation falls flat, paid cosmetics won't bring me back to a game.... because... premium cosmetics are just "pay and it's yours". There's no goal to work towards, no achievement in it.
I love that kind of stuff. It helps give me a goal and just show what I main and like doing. Whenever a game has something that's earnable for something i enjoy [a character in a game, a class, skill/profession], I start working towards it sooo much
if wc or other developers keep making post about monetization stuffs, i don't want to hear it since we had plenty of these and we want more free stuffs / earnable stuffs... oh wait nvm, this a fReE gAmE
I need something earnable to keep me playing. I've been out of content for ages. There's absolutely no point to level skills just to level skills. If I'm not playing, I'm not spending money in the premium shop. 🤷♀️
TLDR: It's not about "give me free things because I don't want to spend money!!"
It's: "Give me more variety in things to work towards and earn, so I have a reason to keep playing!"
Because as ilaraye said, and I myself have said many times in the past: No one is going to buy cosmetics for a game they don't play. If I'm not playing, I'm not paying either.
like man I looked at the reddit yesterday, someone made a comment talking about wanting to earn outfits and not only swipe your credit card for it
and someone responded like "oh you must like games with gambling in it then" and some insults
?????
(guess who got the upvotes and who got the downvotes)
i've definitely learned i would rather pay for the game n get cool outfits than not pay for the game nd pay for cool outfits.
which ik i'm not everyone, and there's def a spectrum there (many f2p mmos have cool, earnable outfits as well as monetized ones), but it's the truth for me
thank you tarina lol
let me guess, the upvote is on insults, relika?
Always, that place is basically general
idk if mods even watching reddit..
that's seem unjustified on downvote on innocent post 😭
oh they are
There were other comments deleted in the thread so mods were there at some point, but idk what was deleted
that reddit is run very draconianly in my opinion but
yikes
looks like the upvotes/downvotes kinda evened themself up on that particular convo, I'd link/cp it but I don't think the mods here like when you get too specific abut the subreddit? I wasn't here but I think someone got in trouble for it
yeah you cant link the reddit or say too much about it im pretty sure
which is weird because reddit is palia's ;x
But overall it was a lot of people attacking others on "S6's behalf", and as much as I may disagree with WC over certain things, I'm pretty confident that's not what he wants and that he appreciates the feedback that isn't just "you're doing everything perfectly"
The reddit is "unofficial" but several of the mods here are reddit mods, so 🤷♀️
It's very confusing cause the reddit is unofficial, this place is official, but they share many of the same mods
maybe s6 need to make reddit subreddit official then, we can talk about it without being in trouble for it
There used to be S6 employees involved with the subreddit but no longer
But it does get very confusing having the mod sharing among official and unofficial. I've never been a fan of seeing that in any game/fandom tbh I feel it always leads to some kinda trouble
This is where I am. As someone who's completely new to Palia, I would rather pay like $15-20 for the game upfront (or past a certain point to open up the rest of the game) and have earnable items than have the whole game be free and have to pay for cosmetics. I understand that the studio needs some monetization to keep the game running, but I have personally never paid real money to unlock in-game cosmetics and I'm not going to start now. I see way more value in paying for a game than paying for a cosmetic, especially as new cosmetics will presumably be released indefinitely. As someone said previously, there's a balance as to what's earnable and what's behind a paywall, and right now it seems like that balance is missing in favor of a hard line. The response to not even consider a change is offputting, especially when so many people seem to be asking for it.
I feel like there was some discussion about that at one point when we still had CMs. There was some confusion with the wording in the subreddit description where they had to make it more clear that it wasn't official. With no CMs to keep track of everything, I doubt they have any reason to make the subreddit official.
It's why most companies are hands-off about subreddits, it's just the shared mods that kinda put it in a weird kinda grey area
if that the case, mods do need to clarify that for sure
palia's a weird kinda grey area kinda place in general tbh
lmfkjashd you ain't wrong bout that

or rather a very bright white kinda place
is this grey or white? (kinda like dress's meme) /j
it's just color theory making us all confused 😔
so to clarify in two phases - some of the reddit mods were there first before they were asked if they were interested in being discord mods (and in part because of that experience), and then once the discord team stabilized some of the discord-first stepped into reddit modding to support.
and on the second phase, linking reddit threads here is subject to the same sort of advertising and mobbing type concerns. like if you're linking a helpful or fun type post that's fine, but if you're trying to brigade a thread from another audience that's not
fair enough
Ye, I knew the history of that, I just feel like it should remain completely separate in communities when you have an official/unofficial split of areas
for the most part, we try to. like i'm not a reddit mod so i don't get into those convos
and I honestly cant remember what the person the other day got in trouble for here re: talking about reddit but I don't wanna risk a bonk for discussing mod actions, something happened I had a Concern about but my brain is mush rn LOL
but one thing we've seen is folks who dislike a mod action on the reddit (whether justified or not) and try to bring argument about it here, which is where we'll enforce that separation. afaik there's a modmail type thing on reddit where folks can appeal or ask for more detail
I honestly feel like my favored approach for live service games these days is like... how FFXIV handles it, with a free trial that has no limit on playtime, with a lot of content, that allows you to end the trial on your own terms + pay for the full game once you know if it's something you want to keep playing or not
that being said, I fully acknowledge that not every game can succeed in that angle, FFXIV has a lot of things going for it that allow for that beefy free trial to even be a thing at all, but even despite that, it's a very successful way to help bring people on board that I feel a lot of games could do good to at least try to emulate imo
so if its palia's discord matter, bring it to @daring cosmos but if its reddit's palia's subreddit matter, then there a modmail on the subreddit?
exactly this yep
That and I feel more comfortable spending extra money in FFXIV's cashshop (even tho I'm already paying a sub fee+upfront fee) because I know I can earn so much of that stuff in game too
so the cash shop feels more a cherry on top that I'm comfy throwing my credit card at
Not even being able to earn a lil hat in Palia really killed my urge to want to buy anything
i really thought the little hat on pets were earnable :(
I don't want to earn the cash shop items, I don't even want to earn the cash shop currency, I just want to level up to get a lil hat
yeah the fact that you cant really show your progress unless you have your plot open to everyone, friend anyone you see and let them come over whenever they want to, evne if you arent there at all really dampens my enjoyment of the game
not just that but trust in XIV as a game is very high
if something breaks, or some major issue occurs then you can expect to see a big news post/announcement where they talk about it, within a day or two, and often put out a timeline for when they think that the issue can be fixed
Yup
and like yeah I get FFXIV big company but it's not the bug fixing that impresses me, it's the immediate transparency about it
The more earnables/events there are, the more time players will put into the game. The more players that play daily, the more new players will be interested in trying the game out. Loyal players bring more of players and are more likely to drop money into the game so I think it is right to reward them for their playtime and give new players goals to work toward. Especially in this content lull the game is in while we wait for Elderwoods.
how many detailed blogs from yoshi p did we get about the house lottery issue
meanwhile one of my issues with Palia is something even bigger than that happens and it's dead silence
I think there were at least 5 follow up posts about the 0-day housing lotto thing lol
like...
"hey we got reports this is happening, we're looking into it"
then "hey we confirmed this is an issue, we paused the lotto until we can fix this"
"we figured out how this happened, here's an in-depth explanation of what went wrong, we'll update you again when we have a timeframe for when we can implement the fix" etc etc
Or like a lot of games do ‘hey it’s Christmas here is a holiday hat in the mail.’
mmm, I was able to give it a pass when it was just outfits, but as soon as it became clear that the stance was shaping up to be "cosmetics in their entirety are going to be cash shop only" , then I had a problem and resolved never to buy another thing until that stance changed
because I realized how bad it could get if everything that could be painted as "cosmetic" got paywalled, it would mean more and more types of cosmetic things that could have been earnables instead got stuck with being paid exclusives and it would stunt the game's growth in an indirect way (I'll explain this in a sec, it's a bit lengthy so going to type a separate post lmao)
maybe its time to stop investing into things that cost too much $ and start doing earnables (free stuffs), that's just my hot take
Welcome to Festivus! I see we’ve already begun the Airing of Grievances. Loving the holiday spirit!
hm, i don't know how to take ur comment's stance
(I am also mad about paywalled cosmetics btw)
pff
i wish we got to light candles with the NPCs this year
Basically, the issue I have is the apparent decision to monetize entire categories of items deemed cosmetic, rather than choosing what to monetize on a per-item basis
A) "If we release one paid pet, we can never release a free/earnable pet." <- an example of paywalling pets, as a category of item
B) "if we release palcats as a paid pet, we will never offer palcats as a free/earnable pet." <- an example of paywalling palcats as a specific pet, but still leaving the door open for other types of pets to be made free/earnable
I am not okay with the stance shown in "A", but I am absolutely okay with the stance shown in "B".
Because "A" means that any and all types of 'cosmetics' that gets monetized will never get to add anything meaningful to gameplay, either as gameplay features or as rewards for engaging in gameplay, even if the item category in question could, or should, have been able to down the line.
There should be 3 free landscapes- the initial vanilla one, an autumn colored vanilla one, and a snow covered vanilla one. Just change the colors.
I think i have mixed feelings of, "is this bashing or you just saying that to be funny" and i think im going to choose the funny part 😭 i hope
yeah the hat pets was kinda surprising to me. i can understand not just switching everything to holiday (the hat would be cute on my wolpunny but i don't want it on my flutterfox) but i would have preferred something like a $5 hat toy which converts a specific pet skin, a la the Pug dressup stuff from WoW. but with the way they've done skins and collections, a separate pet 'entity' might have been the simplest to code, and i would have appreciated a discount if you already owned the plain version
It’s meant to be funny. I love the vibe of this channel bc we’re always discussing what we think could improve the game- often with FEELING.

You always word things so very well. Thanks for your efforts here. I see and hear and agree with you!
their recent moves with the emotes - some paid, some free - might be to gauge whether new free options devalue or upsell the paid versions, with an eye towards relaxing the strict category approach. (and if that's the case, i feel bad that they picked the hot coffee emote as the bellwether)
hot coffee emote sure is right.....
i’m going to compare to sky children for a sec: they have cosmetics that are both real currency and there are some that you can get from a vendor that are temporary, they have emotes/outfits/props that are “free” in the sense that you don’t pay for them but you go out in the world and find the npcs that have them, grind for the candle light (which is like one of their ingame currency) to use at event vendors, the regular npcs etc. sure some ppl in that game say that their real money items are pricey but there’s also a tong of things to get in the game too. Not saying palia needs temporary items, but again when it’s expanded more add those guild halls that we work towards, skill themed outfits that get fancier as you level (put a super cool one in the premium shop), let us find a random npc somewhere that gives us idk a cool part of an outfit. to say their never going to add something like those in the game, i think is a missed opportunity even if you have ppl paying for items in the store to keep your game alive, eventually that will lessen and you’ll be left with no players because they went elsewhere to find that feeling of progression, some thing that palia finds “really hard to compete with” -quote from WC
hot coffee emote need to be fixed because jeez.. nobody drinks like that
i'm still shocked it passed committee
do not tell me that emote is a planned ahead because, this is why u gotta communicate with players and be like, "is this right or nah" smh
I love me a silly emote but like c'mon man LMAO
the one that came with a bit of saltiness is the dice roll and then the dice in the register, i’ve seen a lot of ppl upset over that, to me it’s a fun thing that you can do at your plot, the other has the more flexibility to be anywhere in the game but i get what they mean
i think i also find dancing emote is creepy and not sfw ngl
It's a bit.. wonky, in a way
not to mention that s6 made sure that the dance emote's finished move had to be like few mins for them to repeat the dance, like it's gross and we do not need to see that for few mins
yea i kinda agree like i think it’s (one is a total outfit and can be off plot) the other just on plot and you can buy a million of them if you wanted
idk why it splashes like that it's so... eulhh
As someone who is sick and tired of home decor:
I would have preferred if they'd chosen to give a free emote with basic dice roll, but offer a paid emote with a more dramatic throw
Don't forget the FOMO owl
But I do agree with many of your points
They gave us free dice that's fixed to the plot
I think you missed my point, lol
I am sick and tired of home decor being the only type of earnable in the game, is what I'm trying to say
!bidness
Interested in learning more about Palia's business model and monetization strategy? Check it out here!
saw this and was like wth is this command b4 it popped up
it's an older command, but it checks out.
Well, today, we’re announcing that Palia will be free.
geez thanks
why they go back on their words and not follow what they said in blog?
You sure about that
I really want to see an updated monetization post tbh.
I feel like since daybreak's acquisition, they've started going pretty hard on FOMO especially, with all the limited time stuff we've seen
wc mentioned one is coming soon about it
The only FOMO thing they've done so far is that owl, but still messed up
what about that one baldur pup? I remember there being a limited time one of those, too, for halloween
I don't know if I should count the sales as FOMO
that's yikes
They backtracked on that one. It's still in the store and there's no timer like the owl had
“may be exceptions” if they worded the owl as a seasonal pet that’s available x date to idk Jan 3 or whatever “ it would be understandable “oh it’s a pet that comes around in winter so if i don’t get it now i can get it again next winter(same with halloween pets etc)
occasional sales they've wanted to do all along, for what that's worth
doesn't change the fact that it was announced as limited time, and therefore likely "tricked" many people who would have held off into buying it because they had a Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)
Imagine me as a new player and that's the first blog post I see (it was). Lots of red flags tbh
i think as mentioned since acquired that they can do a updated version of their main points , as i also mentioned a monetization focused on is supposed to be posted at somepoint according to wc so will see
WC promised us one
it’s still free to play but yea kinda need one i think
@modest merlin would love to know your palium path as well!
idk why its take them to have new players goes, "wait a min.. this didn't seem right" for them to goes, "oh maybe we are doing something wrong.."
for what my opinion is worth, from the team members i've gotten to know, it's felt more like the team is trying their best to use as few of the sales 'gimmicks' and marketing tactics as possible to keep things going; and to hold onto as many of those promises as they could for as long as they can.
and that command actually came courtesy of GBW when she was still here!
don't think it will be a new business model post tho
probably just a small paragraph in an upcoming devblog
he only said that a post which will discuss the new things they want to try will be posted early next year
I will be honest, I'm not even sure if "new business model post" is even new? They just might not released it until then
Yeah but they still pulled the ol' FOMO with that owl
I really dislike planned stuffs when we can just talk about it and make the game better.
since its feel forced and when they put it in game and we had to tolerated it just cuz s6 said so
Problem is it seems most of those "pawns" - the people actually responsible for creating the content in the game - got let go and we're mainly left with those corporate overlords.
And so corportate overlords just goes, "ehehe let just makes more monetization, money money money i likey" and its feel greedy :/
i dunno, they could be way greedier about stuff (which i realize isn't a ringing endorsement heh) but it definitely seems like they've been eating their seed corn
Yeah, I have strong opinions on a few things but I'm still hopelessly addicted
We pay for cosmetics but are still going into 2025 with the shoes attached to the pants.
thank embra that the cadet bottoms go with every top or i'd be in trouble
Emotes are fine, as long as they keep releasing a mix of free and paid ones. "We slapped on a hat" pets and FOMO owl is just scummy tho
yea as i mentioned we will see what they do in the new year and that post, what they do with elderwoods and it’ll just set the “this is how it’s going to be even if we launch for real and not just the beta” and people can adjust to that how they want to
and that will probably never change bcs it will cost them way too much to change
its almost 2025 and I'm not sure how that will go but we shall see i guess
we will have a problem if nothing changed in 2025, i will tell u that much :/
I was hoping after the first few they would just start separating the shoes moving forward 😭
The fact that they retroactively detached the backpack from the trailblazer outfit gives us hope.
It will be quite a bit of work for them but doable. Probably not something that's a priority right now tho.
at least 2025 will be a bit better than this year
but well uhm, this year was not a great year for Palia anyways so that's not hard to achieve
indeed and they will have to earn our trust back for sure
right now, im just meh about it and not really trusting for now
Early 2024 was good for Palia
It's all downhill from there
After the July patch the quality of updates started to plummet
It would help to have a CM again.

I'm hoping that eventually all outfits will get a toggle to turn off all of their effects tbh
both a global toggle so the person wearing the outfit can choose how flashy they look to others
but also an option for an individual to toggle effects clientside
the problem is that they need to revisit every single outfit to seperate shoes
trailblazer also came with a sale in the same patch so they could get back the money it took them to modify the outfit
If hotpot going to be a forever thing, can they just makes sure pets not getting in the way, they don't need to fly around in front of cards, thats ridiculous.
They don’t need to, they can just discount those and start separating them moving forward.
On some outfits the shoes are visibly separate, while on others it might be a bit more work
and I really hope whoever got hired for that position is kind 😭
I think that's when we really started seeing the effects of the layoffs
Or maybe that's when they shifted all their focus to Elderwoods? Because it was announced around August-ish
probably both?
Same... Just hoping for someone kind, unbiased, and with the mental fortitude to deal with the ridic stress that comes with being a CM in the game industry lmfhsh
i was going to says, what daybreak's part in this? all im seeing is s6's so far
they might have already started designing them that way, hard for us to know. and there's multiple possible solutions they could pursue, but those of us who've bought prior outfits would like to be able to change those up too
I agreed
I've seen (not restricted to here) amazing CMs, awful CMs, good people who nonetheless are awful CMs who just aren't suited for the role, it ain't easy but I hope they find a person who can handle it all!
hmm..
Some people theorize that Daybreak is pushing for more monetization

Hey, for what we know currently, Daybreak saved this game from dying
I think it's a blessing and curse for that reason
It's on life support currently, but they did save it
Kept the game going but the long term effects aren't looking the brightest rn
At least in certain aspects like monetization
Wizardcrab did say they'll do something about that
Yeah, though I can't say I was too comforted by what he's said so far here, so I don't have the highest of hopes for what changes might be made
We'll see of course but I'm not holding my breath. Just concerned that any changes will either be worse or completely miss the point of the feedback/criticism
i feel like nothing may change at all except maybe some things being cheaper
Gotta wait for the blog I guess
Like rn I'm not sure it's understood that most of us don't want to earn cosmetic shop items or Palia coins but just be able to earn separate things in the game
But so far the focus seems to be saying no to the former rather than hearing out about the latter
Early in 2025 we're going to be releasing some opportunities to help provide additional options for folks who don't value our cosmetics at their base prices (which has always been the plan but despite the feelings here, we've not funded our monetization features nearly the way we've funded other parts of our game), including some limited options for getting a small amount of Palia coins at a discount, an expansion of sales and discounts to help people find prices that are right for them, and some very limited premium gifting options. But earning our current premium outfits is not under consideration
from his post
The problem is he's saying no to something we're not asking for
plenty of people have asked for that though, to be fair
Though the excessive use of the word "limited" is concerning
Yes but it's brushing off the many, many people who have been talking about separate earnables
If that post is about money wise, they not getting anything from me. I do not want any money based stuffs
I was worried that talk of earning Palia coins was going to shift the message we were trying to get to him and it did
That message to me just says "we will have sales to lessen the price of already purchasable items" and nothing else
and that not what we wanted first of all 😭
that's exactly what it's saying yes
That's not what we asking, WC x.x
Like yeah I think the cash shop is overpriced and I'm glad to see it's gonna be looked at but
Thats not the issue
Earnable and Payable cosemtics are not the same
agh im so annoyed with their stance lately
It just makes me sad cause I really want to like this game but what would I even come back for, plushies and funko pops? I love seeing visual progression on my character and there's none of that if I dont take out my credit card and lol in this economy...
It's already a thing, potato pods
I spent dozens and dozens of hours in ffxiv leveling every job to max to get a mount I wanted
There's nothing in Palia that does that because everything ends up cash shop locked
I'm hoping my hopes are not too high, but maybe we will see more rewards once game goes into 1.0 ? 🤔
trying to walk a tightrope here, so apologies, but i can say they're aware of the desire to have earnable, non-monetized outfits. i don't have any idea what prioritization or likelihood it has though; so if you're worried about your message getting through on that front, it has.
but yeah, from the lots of various conversations and suggestions i have seen, there is at least a larger vocal group asking for the premium currency to be earnable directly, rather than new earnable things, so that's probably why it was specifically addressed
WC only said that current premium outfits will not be earnable. Nothing about there not being separate earnable outfits
I think at this point it's about not giving a lot of promises
that’s what i’m thinking as areas open up, cuz you can only do so much in kilima and this side of bahari
i really just wanna figure out why tbh. id have a convo (when im no longer on my period) about it and try to find an understanding
isn't that a mood
(feel better <3)
well i guess its feel better hearing it from you that they're aware about us wanting non-monetized stuffs
That's what Im also thinking. I'm sure there will be more to it. I'm hoping that each new zone will bring new unlockable things.
I'm sure there will be more than a lvl 50 gold trophy for professions, and idk other things...
New zone is almost arround the corner, I will just patiently wait that for now.
We are players just like you, we only know what they say here in the chat
That being said, there's more issues with the game than just cosmetics. The most pressing one being stability and optimization. There's new bugs every update and the game runs like trash
Due to varying VFX settings among players, snowballs can cause a flashbang effect, so please refrain from throwing snowballs at known or unknown players without their consent. It may trigger seizures, migraines, or nausea in photosensitive individuals when hit due to the flashbang effect.
yea i’m hoping switch update helps there, maybe they see how elderwoods is and do another one for all
I think where palia went wrong was having free outfits off the bat, they should've made those all earnable over an extensive period of time, but eventually people grow restless waiting for more and more. Everyone fixates on the pricier cosmetics but there's 30+ total under 9 dollars. 25 just for the female character. I honestly don't get it, tbh. Making them cheaper is just not logical, realistically there's not one artist here who would sell their art for 5-10 bucks especially with effects and visual details.
It's been old, but now it's just getting stale, lol. What I've noticed is people complain about things that are generalized, that anyone can attest to, to gain the public's attention, but it's their 3rd or 4th complaint is what they're really after.
Wait im confused with the 30+ under 9 dollars
People noticed that Tamala has a (grayed out) shop button now 👀
Outfits lol.
As a new player, I kind of agree with this. I was shocked at the number of free outfits (including ones that confusingly said I had "unlocked" them despite never playing before). Given their names, it also seems logical to have them unlock at certain points. I would have been super happy to have like half of the starter outfits just be unlockables
Oh yeah lmao I talk a lot about the earnable outfits but first and foremost I'd like to see the game working
Maybe you meant the free ones? Or the old ones?
There's 30+ outfits in the cash shop for under $9? that's news to me if so
Hmmm, no, the purchasable ones. We aren't talking about the bundles.
Yup, you just gotta scroll a bit down
Yeah... I also don't know... Did they reduce the price to the old ones 👀
But why they didn't announced that.. that's so weird
most of the early ones are pretty ugly tho ngl
Some of them are but there are some good ones
I imagine the 9 dollar ones only have a single color palette
Wait really?!? All the old ones are now 9 dollars!?! That's good news though
They used to be more? They've costed this much since at least when I started playing
I mean, that's up for debate, but they are available, lol. There's also expensive that you deem not worth it as well, right?
Did they. I think they were like 15$
Unfortunately, our financial situation is way too expensive than in game stuffs
Yup, 850 coins = $8.5
So no I will not buy $9, still expensive
I feel ya 🫂
So basically it's either 2 dollars or free?
I think that's the best deal in the entire store. There are standalone outfits for 850 and even 425 too
I thought i smelled privilege wafting in.
If you can afford it, good for you. Not for me. I will not buy palia coins more than once if I'm only getting one thing.
The new winter ones are 850 coins and have 9 colors each
You better off just making them free at that point.
I might consider it a fair deal if they offered a bundle of like
"pick any 3 outfit pieces you like for 850"
so I could pick a hat from one set, a top from another, and bottoms from a 3rd set and pay 850 for one "complete" outfit with exactly the pieces I like
From my understanding, players do not find many of the cash shop items as "worth it" or a "deal" because there is no alternative option. So people who literally cannot afford it are cast aside. The cash shop would hold move value in players opinions if there were other options. If it's an ultimatum of "spend this or be unworthy of any additional things" then no spending our hard earned money to a company who doesn't value our contributions of said dollar isn't worth it.
I smelt chaos brewing
Yeah, I'm going through the list now
the majority of the 850 ones are for one old outfit in one variant but
also seeing the absolute ridiculous length of the list I'm scrolling through hurts lmao
I mean, I get that, I know accumulatively it adds up don't get me wrong. All I'm saying, what are you expecting from a game that doesn't hinder your gameplay experience with a pay to win aspect. You don't need cosmetics, I don't need them, I could understand if the outfits gained some in game bonuses that gave unfair advantages.
People value options. People value games who let you pay for something extra but let you play and earn other stuff in game thru other avenues.
I've started thinking UE5 was a mistake. I tried the game on a few low-end machines and you have to drop the resolution to like 480p to get a playable framerate. Maybe they should've gone for Unity instead
I wish it's not just comestic ngl
I can't say I know much about game engines and coding but just m a n things are rough lol I'm not sure exactly where on the pipeline the problem lays but the game's always been fundamentally broken on one way or another, it feels like
I hope whatever's going on with the coding/QA side of things gets sorted sooner than later cause Elderwoods cannot release broken for the game's sake
i played both ue4 and ue5 builds with a just-under-min-spec graphics card and didn't notice any significant performance difference between them
They could make plenty of bundles, but that's not what people want. If the outfits are not what people want, they won't buy it. Lol. Everyone just mentioned that all of the outfits that are 9 dollars are ugly, so what is profited from turning them into a bundle, because realistically, those are the only ones they would make any sort of bundle out of.
Canadian dollar is so worthless right now it makes every macro transaction feel so much worse
Plz no broken Elderwods🙏
not to say that ue4 is dead, but with ue5 out i imagine most studios and programmers would be looking to use that, so ongoing support is probably a better bet than anchoring themselves on 4 for the long run
Like I wanted the cat ear but like not for 30$ 💀
Sure, it's not "paying for an advantage", but you could argue that it does impact the gameplay in an indirect, roundabout way for those who want more to earn in the game than home decor.
Having all non-default cosmetic options paywalled = zero options to be earned, and for goal-oriented players, that can and does leave people feeling disillusioned with the game because they don't see any reason to play (or pay) when "visual progression" for a character is unattainable through actual gameplay.
The paid vs free character visuals are so stark like it's obvious who paid and I kinda hate that you're characters only representation in the world is monetary and say nothing about your time, commitment, or interests in the game
On low settings the graphics look straight outta 2010, but oh boy the performance doesn't match the graphics at all
Just look at Genshin. It runs on $100 phones
Please look at USA and EU money wise difference when it's come to buying palia coins and actually look at the prices on what you had to get one thing.
I just find it 😬 if you just going to says "oh that not too bad"
Spent $55 US and got 4 things outfit, toolskin, pet and glider skin. Some were pricey but it was worth it to me
You should be accommodated for playing a game that you like? They reward us in various other ways, universally, with drops, and just spontaneous gifts. Why does it always have to be predicated on " more ", to me, that's just a lack of appreciation.
Maybe in the future they will offer more, but logically I just can't see it being cosmetics. Who knows, maybe they'll surprise all of us, I'm not against them doing something like that, but I just personally don't believe it's something mandatory.
and they need to work on their communication as well especially for the Elderwoods release
bcs things will break for sure
but of course the majority should definitely work, unexpected bugs can always happen
lol.
Hey maybe I'll appreciate the game more when it stops causing seizures and migraines for people due to broken code.
Don't take what I said out of context, the lack of appreciation is solely based upon what they DO give us for our time and commitment.
Sorry my comment wasn't any any sort of rewards?
Its about the visual progression of your character.
In tons of other games it's very common to have both free earnable cosmetics & paid cosmetics. Different outfits, obviously, not the same ones so people aren't getting the same thing other people paid for for free. It gives people goals, helps them feel rewarded for hitting milestones.
Why is so much of Palia's community completely foreign to this concept even though it's so widespread?
You're not given any rewards that are shown visually on your character without paying
Without a credit card you look like everyone else without a credit card, and with one you look like everyone else who's paid 💀 none of that is unique to tells a story about your accomplishments or interest in the game
i don't think it's so much 'accommodation' as it is different player styles and preferences, but there's absolutely a visual distinction between the paid outfits and the free/ default ones. and since outside of your home plot, that's about the only thing you can show off, it makes it difficult to take pride in how the character appears if you haven't opened your wallet
I think this all the time. It isn't some foreign concept. It's extremely common to have earnable/unlockable and paid cosmetics.
What's wrong with that though? Shouldn't it be a revolving door, we appreciate what that game means to us, and we show appreciation with an offering?
in fairness, while it's common to things like MMOs and gacha games, there's a significant portion who come to this game from the community sim genre where it doesn't come up that often
yes as mentioned the cosmetics take a back seat just for a moment where the real issue is the game itself with all the game breaking bugs, quests stopping bugs and many other bugs. Personally the shop to me is ok, yea some stuff are. a bit pricy but that has to do with my economy on the country i am in converting to what the us is, what’s reasonable for one isn’t for me. can’t please everyone yadayad but should make someone feel bad for not affording it at the time. like i love this game as do many others despite what’s going on but don’t make everyone feel like we don’t
It's not about "wanting things for free", it's about wanting incentives to play the game outside of filling your housing plot with collectables. It's about wanting to show off accomplishments on your character instead of just your house. I wish more people understood that.
I guess there's an argument to make that says 'does visual progression of your character matters' which is a matter of opinion, but factually there's nothing that makes you as a player stand out for your own merit and accomplishments, which I find very odd for a social mmo
Money will always be a sore subject because there are some of us who are struggling. Sure we don't have to buy it hence why we asking for free stuffs.
what do you consider to be a community sim game? because I've played games that I consider to fall under that and most of the ones I played do actually have earnable ones
in short - most folks don't think so, no. when a game uses an F2P monetization approach, it fundamentally changes the relationship between the player and the game/ studio/ company
breaking news: giving a gaming company plays for their game is no longer being appreciative of this game. You give them money or you need to get lost
/s
Right? Because there's no reason I'd every see the house of people in the underground, I only see their character. And if I see their house in a house tour, their character isn't there. Nothing ties the two together coherently and imo that's a huge flaw with the current state of the game
maybe i spoke before thinking, but i was aiming more for like - you don't buy outfits in stardew, or animal crossing, you buy the game. so like the simultaneous paid and free outfit tracks, may not be familiar to them
I will never forgive sims for making it a free game and put ridiculous prices on dlcs ngl 😭

I see you haha

I couldn't stomach buying sims games after sims 2 totalled up to 300$ I still play tho
I cringed every time ea tried to poach me to work on the now cancelled sims5 because I'd just feel bad about that every step of the way knowing the end price tag
There's already enough incentives though, I've seen this in every game that's similar to palia. There's just a stoppage point for most players, with games like this, that's why there's disappointment from immense expectations. With each update, they merely " fine tune " the core aspect of the game, but everyone is waiting for something transcending, but other than a few minor tweaks that give you a slight different variation of the game, it does not change. I understand bugs and the severity of certain bugs that are detrimental and they do need to address those immediately, but I also understand injecting numerous codes disrupts the functionality of others, but I digress.
weren't the prices for DLCs ridiculous even before the game went f2p?
/gen
the only thing I know is that my best friend sunk a lot of money into sims
Okay so how's this for an example then, Sims 4 used to be paid even for base game but they've made base game free more recently, and all of their DLC is paid. with the DLC being a large way to get new content. I wont touch on mods because console players can't use those.
They're doing an event right now where you do tasks in-game to earn extra holiday-themed items, for anyone who plays the base game. If you don't participate in the event, you don't get the items. But anyone can get them with just the free base game. This is the third event they've done this year, and they also give out new stuff to base-game players (who can now play for free) through what they call "SDX drops" fairly regularly
I think you're misunderstanding the issue being discussed I'm sorry to say😬
Yeah, I just don't forgive them for not reducing price or turning it into free since sims was a old game that all ^^;
No one is saying free game play is not rewarded, we're saying it's not visually represented on your character 😅
And your character is all that represents you 95% of the time
No, I understand, but I'm alluding to everyone other arguments that coincide, at least imo. I'm not trying to have a quarrel over the same rhetoric, 100x, lol. At some point it has to advance.
Tldr; keep cash shop as is but allow earnable cosmetics in game for skills/events/etc. because it is elitist to assume all players can or should monetarily show appreciation or interest
🤔
I didnt want that to be even longer so breaking it up, but basically, the free items don't stop people from buying DLC - including kits which are basically just furniture/clothes, not gameplay. People buy them anyway, especially when they like the outfits (if they're a CAS person) or the furniture/build items (if they prefer building)
They should do casual clothing ya know? Like an in between of the free and payed outfits in terms of style. Not too generic, not to flashy. These should be earnables.
" Elitist ", lol what? I already stated that I hope they do implement things of that multitude, but logically I just don't see it happening.
Skill themed outfits pls pls pls
I want a fishing fit
Earnable skill themed outfits would be an ideal compromise
unlock the guild hall in bahari city to start getting them /jk/cry
yesss
There's no reason why "logically" it shouldn't happen
Loading screen tips from the parallel universe
People who want to be a hotdog can still do so, and People who do invest time into the game can showcase their time and effort visually
Yea something like this would be cool and we get 3. 1 outfit for each skill milestone we hit and they maybe go from bronze, silver, gold in terms of accessories or embellishments?
they could honestly just recolor old very basic outfits and make them earnable through skills and it would be enough
(similar to the switch linking outfit which was a recolor of an existing outfit with a hat added)
I'm thinking you still get trophies for levels 10, 25, 50, then outfits for levels 100, 150, 200? That way you get the outfits only if you're really dedicated to a skill
and then throw a fancy one in the prim store for those that want an extra special one, like i get it keep the store alive to make money for the game,
Skill based unlockable could be subtle small peices that don't upstage the premium content but offer more then the newbie wardrobe
The problem is that palia's earnable rewards only really cater to one category of player: Those who want to decorate their house.
Everything is either A) home decor or B) something that can be used in some way to obtain home decor
People want more variety of earnable rewards, but so far, S6 appears to have this stance where if a single item in a category is considered "premium" ALL items in that category must be made premium
so it only breeds resentment every time that some new type of item is added to the cash shop, because for many, they take that to mean "welp, another type of item we'll never see made earnable or attainable through actual gameplay
First it was "just" clothing.
Then pets were added to the "paid only" pile.
And then glider skins. And tool skins.
Now we have landscapes, and emotes, and, and....
People resent that none of those categories of items have ever had an earnable option, and as long as S6's stance remains the same, they never will. As long as S6's stance remains the same, none of those item categories will ever be something that drives player engagement, goals, or be a way to show off accomplishments within the game.
I think Idle animations are another great untapped potential for character progression visuals that tap into both free and premium players time investment goals.
Yea and it would give more personality and life to our characters to boot
I think there's a misunderstanding here, I'm not for either side of anything. I'm basically thinking of how the game has progressed thus far, although you are allowed to theorize and inject thoughts on the direction you think should go, I merely look at what it is. I'm not against earnable, free, or purchasable items with in game currency, I'm just also not against it not being a thing either. Whichever way it swings, I either move forward with my gaming life, or sever the tithes.
It's just simple for me to approach things reasonably, and accept that things may or may not change, but realistically I just don't see how some of you have been up in arms over the same theories after investing years, and thousands of hours with wishful concepts.
Who here is 'up in arms' rn?
I don't know why we need to be inflammatory about passionate fans sharing their ideas and hopes for a game they love
because for a lot of us, Palia isn't just another game experience to play and then finish - it's become a significant part of our lives.
I never criticize anyone for sharing ideas, it just seems as if it's criticism because there's a clear distinction amongst my approach and the vast majority of the community.
It's to be expected.
think along the lines of a good friend who turns to bad vices - you may no longer choose to be part of their daily life, but you can still remember the good times you'd shared and hope for their eventual healing/ return
I met half the (online) people I talk to every week in this server lol significant indeed
My online besties came from palia
and the other half came from the last social MMO I played about 15 years ago
social MMOs are an important genre, but it's also easy to care a lot because of that
I'd play with ppl online but I'm anti social but love chilling with you guys in discord though
I get that, but eventually no matter how much you love something, if it doesn't change after so long, you'll either suffer or separate yourself.
Otherwise, the suffering at a certain point is your own doing.
One day,one day I'll play with ppl on my friends list
I can see the argument, but for most people it's not as simple as pushing a button and deciding not to be bothered. eventually there will probably be a final 'this is never coming back to what i expect', but otherwise that attachment will keep some hold
if the state of this game is genuinely harming peoples' daily lives, then i absolutely hope they can get some help with that. but on the other hand, some of the folks who've been here for years already have a fair bit of personal investment (whether or not it's also monetary) and so they're certainly allowed to keep advocating for the things they want to see
I share Lere's point of view. I cared so much for WoW but I had to let go because it turned into something I didn't like anymore.
And it's still sad when I look at what they did with the game now 😭. But I won't go on they're forums to cry because there's no point in doing that.
it’s the same thing as “don’t tell people how to play/when to stop playing”, everyone will decide when it’s their time to walk away from a game, i’ve been in games where the game shut down (looking at you wildstar) to ones i used to play but don’t anymore , not over cosmetics or the ingame shop, mostly because of gameplay and my family/friends didn’t play anymore and it takes me a while to either get other friends to play with or i’m just solo until i stop playing.
I'd like to think S6 is a lot closer to it's players then blizzard and are actually listening 😭
I understand that. Every individual determines how long they're willing to be attached to an illusion, because when there's no longer proof it retains the same value, you just have to make a decision. I experienced it with several games, lol. Played a game for 6 years, hoping things would change, or at least revert back to a former glory of itself. I know the pain, lol.
are we gonna Riot?
I'd even go as far as to say that from personal experience, they are 😭 the communication is not 100% but like they're at least trying
Unlike blizzard that elected a community council and then literally ignored every suggestion they made 😂
Nah they won't. I think they still have stuff to figure out, and until they do they will be silent so they don't misinform us. At least that is the vibe I am receiving.
which is really funny cause the S6 higherups come from Riot and Blizz LOL
I feel like S6 plays way too much into the 'we won't say anything because we don't want to disappoint' and it makes the communication come off cold and distant
Like imo saying 'we wanted to do this but it didn't work out' is really humanizing and relatable tbh lol
Yep. But internal attachment is rarely severed by external prodding, and it's up to those people to make their own judgement calls. so as long as they abide by the server rules, it's still entirely permissible for them to keep expressing those desires
i'm not crying, personally.
WC has been in here, like he himself, i've been talking to devs person to person in here. it's obviously not pointless to talk about this stuff, not like it is w WoW.
technically speaking we're all still beta testers anyway, so our job is kinda to complain
It's actually scientifically supported as the appropriate approach as well (i have a masters degree in communication specializing in corporate and organizational comm)
as far as I'm concerned there's been no actual reason for us to be pushed into giving up until we leave beta. after beta ends, maybe I give up entirely 🤷♀️
It has been supported over and over and over again with research that silence is not the answer, ownership is ESPECIALLY when it is ownership of a problem/issue/negative thing
Which is why I appreciate WC talking to us so much
wait is ur name a reference to femininomenon? omg i love chappell
And Vega too in accessibility chat, they are the goat
they rly missed a chance to do CHAPPAll on some tiktok somewhere
Little by little they will give us things, we wanted long hair, they figured how to make long hair... It's still a hat at this point but hopefully one day it will be hair and the ribbon a head piece 😅.
It is! Ace Demon coined it about something I did and I adopted it as my nickname here hahaha
Yes, and I also complain and send feedback 💜
One cofounder left yeah but some of the others are still there. I'm pretty sure WC was from Riot? I know it was something they were advertising when they first dropped the game
yes WC is from riot

Why are people so freaking aggressive about hotpot? It's completely unnecessary 🥹 I just wanna play without people yelling 😭
What are they yelling about?
Must be a spam pot
Spampot 🥺
It's definitely the most efficient way to get tokens lol but I like actually playing the game
Spampot is iffy for me because I tend to lag

I now have four quests that can't be completed because of Tamala's cauldron being bugged. Lol why can't they just... Make the content we already have playable instead of giving us more shop items 🤦♀️

Real😭
Every time I try to play, something either crashes or is unusable because of how buggy the game is...

Not for me it wasn't lmao
Man, till now? I don't get, is it a game breaking bug thats hard to fix? I mean, they could fix instead of dropping premium store updates...
Also, If they are low on resources, they shouldn't have dropped epic version onf the game. it isnt even avaliable on my country (and my language is avaliable on the game and on steam). Well, what do I know...
Cooking bug and bundles were fixed, hopefully this one will be with the next update
Yeah, hopefully next update.
We can only hope. One day they'll realize that people who can't play the game won't pay for premium items
This!
Or they won't, and then it's time to move on lol
And mostly those who pay for the premium items are long dated players...
Like I just want the game we have now to be playable. That is my bare minimum ask for next year. I was all geared up for elderwood and now I just want to be able to finish what is there now. My expectations grow ever lower lol
yep
You understa nd that the game is a beta. It's right there on the splash screen. It is going to be a buggy game for a while
I payed for one not long into getting into it myself.
doesn't say it on the switch
but also that would be a better argument if they spent more time fixing bugs and less time focusing on adding more stuff to buy... instead we get bugs that have been around for over a year that they just dont seem to care about actually resolving
getting stuck while cooking? bugged for over a year. snowballs flash? over a year. party forming/joining problems? over a year.
Also wasn't labeled as early access on Steam.
A beta label doesn't mean the game is functionally an actual beta. I have never seen another game launch on multiple platforms, not have server wipes, have a full cash shop, and push monthly updates while still claiming it's a beta.
I'm not saying they are not capitalist pigs. There is def. a money grab here. But it is expected to be broken.
Now if you have been playing a beta for over a year and they have not even attempted
Well, lets hope this is not a Star Citizen situation.
What's wrong with monthly updates? Why can't a beta receive monthly updates? To me it makes more sense for an unfinished game to receive regular updates than a finished one
Which reminds me of this article Roan had found a while back and the discussion of Palia's malingering. #💬│palia-discussions message
There's a regular update schedule like you'd expect with a launched live service game, is what I meant.
Other early access / beta games I've played have a roadmap of "here's what we're working on" and then updates are added when they're ready, not on a regular monthly schedule.
Like honestly the lack of content in each monthly update except for the cash shop has probably added to some of the ill-will. I'd say it would be better to just do something every couple months at this point to actually feel like updates are meaningful and add content.
Okay cash shop bad, but they could at least push monthly bug fixes
I know that at the moment they're pushing bugs rather than bug fixes, but

I think the no waipes thing is particularly rough because when new content comes out, the veterans blitz through it in like an hour, and go right back to having to make their own fun.
i mean not all of us vets speed threw the content (im taking a long break still am...) im glad they arent wiping or dident wip everyones progress (in alpha? sure thats alpha) but we were in closed beta and open beta was just around the corner there was no need to wip. a lot of us dident want a wip ether expeshally if all our IRL money purchases were wiped...that would of really of ticked people off. thats why i think cosmetics should be tied to your steam or account as a whole and not character take ESO for example or GW2 there cosmetics housing pets etc are tied to the ACCOUNT as a whole not just the character.
also been meaning to ask since i join uh whats up with the ! names ? iv always asked but never got a answere XD
Oh, no, this wasn't me advocating for wipes. The moment they introduces the cash shop, that opportunity was gone. This was more me thinking about how it's a struggle to keep older players entertained. Like, when it comes to wipes, the best way I've seen it done is when devs not only add new content, but refine and tweak old content so there's something new for even long time players to discover.
Also, The ! names are usually people advertising something. They do it so they can appear at the top of the user list.
^at least that's what I've always seen it used for
ah also yaa....while i like the updates it seems like its more done for the cash shop :/ witch isent fair....while yes its cosmetics iv advocated for free NEW cosmetics hell even just a hat spesifically christmas hats! or holiday cosmetics everyone gets :( masks would of been perfect for halloween free cosmetic ya they gotta make money but like...they can still add free cosmetics lots of MMOS and games add a few free along side a lot of paid cosmetics :(
also im waiting for new region
it's possible to do a wipe of character data without wiping purchases... games have done this before, it's nothing new. it's far more iffy when consumables are involved but palia being cosmetic-only made that easy. frankly we actually should have had that. but as soon as they decided they were going forward with releasing on switch it could never happen.
Iirc this is what Tarkov does.
the moment they decided they were going forward with releasing on switch they also lost the "beta" label excuse in my mind though
oh nice! I havent played Tarkov but that's cool to know
honestly it shouldent of come to switch...we were given a free cosmetic connection via switch and it gets added to the shop like bruh..whats the POINT in giving some people free version while others have to pay thats not fair ether pay it payable only for free for everyone >:{
also switch is just...not handling palia well..
I honestly forgot about the free froggy suit from Switch. I don't think we're ever gonna get something like that again.
I actually agree and complained about this very specifically. They said anything that would be free, would always be free, and anything that was paid would always be paid. so wtf?
i wish they did shop sales :( not bundles but sales like black friday or holiday like christmas is tomorrow! common give us a shop sale!
RIGHT ?? you can put it as ya sure you only got it if you connect your account to switch but COMMON if they were gonna add it to the shop enyways it shouldent of been hard to drop them in players inboxes those who dont have them (what happens if new character is created you ask? it gets automatically droped in your box)

And the Twitch glasses.
They already slapped the Switch outfit in the shop, only a matter of time before they do the same to the Twitch glasses
In auditing the steam trailer... this is what probably has to bug me the most... & I know it's silly but i genuinely don't care, I'm giving more free labor here
🤣 🪭
But the promotional department shows a rebuilt "home" sign on the plot at 0:32 in to the trailer.
honestly the ore compass should show all ores as gvreen and rare as yelllow. that makes more sense thatn the one we have
My assumption is they don't want to make it too overpowered?
i dont see howe that is when we have honey lures that are just stand there and the bugs come to you.
Yeah but it doesn't spawn all epic bugs straight
Having an op option would be cool tho
Ugh I want that, mine is all busted 😂

Lights really need a larger radius, I shouldn't need 5 ceiling lights to still only mostly light up a room >.<
Industrial lights have a bigger radius and a brighter light.
Pretty nice difference to me but I definitely think they all could be much brighter
Use wall laps as well when you decorate.
Also the room seems pretty light. Any brighter and people would need sunglasses 😅
My opinion at least
You can turn on brightness if you find it too dark. In the settings.
Yeah I am using other light sources, this is just an empty room to show what I'm talking about, a chandalier should cover the whole room lol. To be clear I don't want brighter, brightness is fine, it needs a larger area.
Turn on your room light irl, it hits wall to wall surely, and that's probably not a fancy chandelier lol
I think the light is so dim because they aren't as modernized as we are 😅. Much more medieval sort off feel.
Even though they have lightbulbs they are the cheap kind 😂😂
lol, Even a little tealight candle lights a room further than these chandeliers,
That's also the effect of walls being white.
🤷 if that little tiny flame can reach across a room a chandelier should too is all I'm saying. It looks weird in game, it's not how light works >.<
It should be like the left example here.
I think this is how our light currently works ig. Maybe it's the feel they wanted idk. You can always share feedback to them and let them know about this.
I personally enjoy playing with the lights that we have, I also don't like using the homestead default lamp for example because I find it too bright and it bothers my eyes 😅

I wouldn't mind brighter lights or even colored ones
Feedback given thanks :), it really bothers me that I can't light up a room without putting lights in every corner :P Colored lighting would be awesome!

I finally finished the prologue quest. Well... it was...
It kinda felt like a wild goose chase, but I'm sure that was the point. I didn't dislike the quest itself, I just found the ending to be incredibly unsatisfying. ||the nameplate is cool and all|| but being left on yet another cliffhanger is just.... so disappointing (especially for those like me who are invested in the story).
I think that we will continuously get cliffhangers though. As the story is neverending...
But a smaller cliffhanger would have been better 😅😅
I would have preferred to wait on subira longer, than this tbh
yeah it was a huge cliffhanger
but still achieves what it meant to achieve for me personally
excitement for elderwoods to find out more
this was a comment from vega about it
they are definitely aware that the framing as "conclusion to the prologue" led to some expectations which were not met at all
I can understand the disappointment but looking at it as a bridge to elderwoods, it's fine imo at least less disappointing
(just realized that u were part of the convo tempest haha, feel free to ignore my message

Personally I don't want them to rush it out. They should take whatever time they need to finish it

I don't think it will be january.
I think they might do a fix patch.
I'm assuming March, but might be wrong about it 😅
yeah march or even april for sure
that's my guess as well
january will be luna new year
nothing exciting but we can get a few more lanterns and stuff so at least something nice about it I guueeesss
What do you think about Tamala getting a shop button?
Alchemy skill coming
❓
its kinda funny that they forgot to disable the UI
glad that we can't access it at least
would've been a huge spoiler
personally don't expect too much, potion is the most likely, but we'll have to see if it will actually come with an actual skill
I keep my expectations low for any new skills
wouldn't say no to one tho
March is my guess too. I always assume "early [insert year]" means Q1.

Yeah if Elderwoods isn't perfect this game is done.
December has already been their biggest drop in average players ever.
i mean no game is perfect but its also hard to gauge what a perfect elderwoods would be....
Little to no bugs.
Several new questlines / characters.
Several new huntables / collectibles.
to be fair, a lot of games decrease in playership during december as people are focused on the upcoming holidays, but your point still stands
fair
I think only because of infinity Nikki. A lot of people went to see how the game is (including myself) it's what happens when a new game that has similarities is launched.
Once Palia gets an update I'm sure a lot of people will come back to see what is new.
i just downloaded infinity nikki just today, haven't played though
It's not on Android so I can't play unfortunately
I tried looking for it in my playstore, only thing that comes up is Shining Nikki
I have the newer Samsung galaxy and it's up do date idk what's going on lol
I got it through the Google play store, not samusung app store

Play Store hides apps that your device can't handle/download iirc
That's actually hilarious because Genshin Impact still shows up in my playstore and I can't play that one anymore because they expanded so much
Nikki requires a lot of ram 🐏, it doesn't show up on my phone either, and my tablet is not letting me install it.
But my friend has it on the phone and OMG is so hard to play compared to PC
She has a gaming phone
Aahhh ok this makes more sense
Yup, the control is super bad if it's not on PC
Thank you for sparing me the frustration 😅😂
Like... She barely managed to pass the tutorial. It's so hard to do a high jump.
Me being on mobile this entire time:
I've been playing Nikki and enjoying it so far but I'm playing on PC
I actually love it on mobile, even with the challenging controls, it's given me a great first larger scale mobile game experience! It plays fairly well even on my phone, which I didn't think was super powerful, but would love if it came to GFN eventually. That's the only way I've been able to play Palia on my crappy tappy, so it'd be cool beans to be able to do the same for nikki.
Ouch 😭. Wait u play palia on switch? Not on pc?
I play on handheld microwave as well
Oh, I didn't know! I thought u were a pc user.
On my phone
I wish! I cannot afford
Im so happy I have my pc 😭. The one I had before actually broke, and my mom helped me buy a new one. Else I wouldn't be playing palia either.
That's why it Feels Bad Man about people blaming switch/cross platform play for the issues with palia. I wouldn't ever have likely known about this game if it weren't for the port to switch
I don't blame cross platform, im happy more people enjoy the game.
I blame switch for not having a proper update to it.
And the new "update" is also questionable....
I love that Palia gives platform diversity it means more ppl can enjoy it
I hope palia expands to more platforms so that more people can enjoy it. And I hope s6 manages to make it work on all of them, they said they are working on better improving the game so that it flows better for everyone.
That is probably why the game is so glitchy atm, because they are changing codes and stuff.
Yes, it's in the dev log 💜

And it would be nice so my cousin can play with me she strictly plays on console
merry....christmas everyone..... lol
They were better at fixing stuff when they had a bigger team though.
Could be like seven days to die forever in alpha beta
saying a game is in beta is fine, when it's being used as a time to actively engage with the community, gather feedback, hear out criticism, and correct issues in a timely manner.
However, there are many times when a game/company uses the "beta" label as a shield, to deflect criticism, as an excuse to convince people to overlook major issues that should not be overlooked.
Beta is the best time to bring up flaws and broken things and keep pushing for them to get fixed
Maybe not S6 (if anything, they don't mention the beta status enough lmao), but a lot of people in palia's community have absolutely tried to use palia's beta status as a way to shut down any conversation they deem "negative" even if it's legitimate criticism/feedback.
A lot of the community is, unfortunately-- Yeah lmao
I'm not expecting perfection right off the bat, however I don't think they should have released on multiple platforms before the original one was completely stable.
We shouldn't be seeing the same bugs that have been in the game for years.
To be fair it's also not "off the bat" to me, it's been almost four years.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays! I may be wrong or late but confused! Isn’t Tish and Reth dating because I am sure that I seen in dialogue that they may be siblings?
They are brother and sister
Also on x there was a sweet about siblings
||Tish shipped Jel and Reth||
Interesting!
But they were dating in the beginning correct?
No
no. they are siblings
Thank you

maybe they thought they were step siblings and spent too much time watching "life with derek"
Not reading dialogue apparently 🙋🏽♀️🤷♀️
i am guilty of rapid clicking thru dialogue cause i wanna play not read LOL
I'm pretty sure that's how half the playerbase ended up with their shepps
Not reading dialogue apparently
stop reminding me 😭
Tish is my shep, for that reason
i dont even remember who my shepp is...
Love you Kali
i think it was einar , but
I made a second account because I chose but didnt actually want Kenli, sorry Kenli
same. i call myself a filthy story skipper for a reason
i just look into the story/lore later if i actually end up clicking and meshing with the game & gameplay
THere's only a few characters on Palia i rarely ever skipped dialogue for. Jina, Ashura, Einar. And sometimes Elouisa.
I chose some dialogue in sdv recently by accident and I still don’t know what I said
hahaha ive done the same thing tbh
i wouldn't skip einar! or ashura lol

i dont know maybe #💻│tech-help ?
Twitch drops in general are very finicky. Try refreshing the page, and seeing if any progress starts to go through. I genuinely don't have anything else to suggest other than that... 😓
Can also double check the drops/inventory page to see if any progress is going through, bc sometimes it doesn't update on the actual stream itself [even though the progress bar is filling.]
thank you for the reply. I have up for the night. I to really want this cute rugs. I wish twitch would stop being twitchy.🥹
I watched 4 hours and then checked the inventory page and no progress😭
could try a different browser, might work with less troubleshooting. sorry it's not working for you.
also the rugs can be crafted in-game with a recipe that's sold in the cash register in front of zeki's store just fyi! the wallpaper is exclusive to the drops though
great idea. I'll try that tomorrow
I did not know that. Thanks
of course! I hope it works for you first try next time
you'll also want to make sure you don't have the stream muted (you can mute the tab, but not the in-browser player) and that the particular stream you were watching has the drops enabled
been a couple busy days (we were hosting extended family) but i wanted to pop in and wish a Merry Christmas to all my fellow discussers!

Im guessing you did link your palia account to twitch.
But either than that, don't have it muted.
You can mute the tab but not the video.
I just leave it at super low just to be sure it's working.
Make sure the streamer has drops enabled.
After I chose a stream I always pop a different tab for the drops as well and you can check in the first min to see if it's recording or not.

3 present assets that would have been 100% more exciting to receive than something that I purchased literally [not figuratively] hundreds of. So I could give them away via furniture trading... oops... but I can't do that because they aren't plush items

yeah, they should have gave us 1 of each for the x-mass log in
Or if not those, they could have at least taken a moment, to change the patch notes an not make it sound like the presents would be able to be modified. As they A] are not ornaments and B] are "Standard decor."
{I did just log in now & run over to the modification bench after the thought came to my head "maybe this was their way of telling us that you can modify them now"
But no, you still are unable to modify them. Same with the plates. & the charcuterie. It actually would have been simpler if they had just given a complete breakdown of which items had been updated.
But it's alright, I do love my spreadsheets after all

Sorry but coming back to the palia discord to see if there've been any improvements only to see a third instance of flash effects that can cause seizures is actually concerning
How does a bug like this that can harm players come up repeatedly over the game's history
Hey soup- I agree with you, and you're probably not gonna like what I'm about to forward either
I wish I was surprised.
We also now have an exceedingly common total whitescreen flashbang that happens apparently at random and very hard to replicate.
.....that ValkOrii pointed out has been on the known issues forum for 8 months

Yeah, 8 months. Too many all caps is being automodded now too I guess.
I keep trying to type out what I'm feeling but I'm quite honestly at a loss for words.
This is beyond disappointing :/
Oh, hi Alphabet Soup. Yeah, it's rough
[And like I tell you everytime i see your name in chat, i love your name so much. It always makes me smile]
Aww, thank you! I appreciate it
Months?!?!
I thought this was a new bug. Granted I wasn't playing because of school but geez
It's just more frequent/common now since the latest patch, it seems?
sporadic, non-replicable bugs are the hardest to find and fix, unfortunately. i'm hoping that the snowball business helped clarify how many flash/ white screen effects there have been, so if you do get the white screen please send in a ticket with your logs to help them find it!
And if you're like me and you're like "

" #💻│tech-help or #🦋│issues-discussions should be able to help with figuring out how to send them with your report if needed or it's confusing
Granted that was about a very specific set of oyster data so might be a different thing lol
very specific set of oyster data is still great out of context tho
I'd be willing to go back to the game once the bigger flashing screen issues are resolved I guess, but being someone who's really sensitive to those sudden changes, it does make me want to stay away from the game.
I'm not epileptic myself, but sudden flashes like that give me searing migraines
The very bright blue whitescreening is very disorienting, it made me dizzy, a bit queasy, and I had to physically shield my eyes while I exited and force closed the game. And I have an anti-blue light screen filter on pretty heavily for my sensitive eyes.
i know of a few folks who have had the flashes trigger migraines and the like, yeah. if WizardCrab's attention and comments are any indication though, i suspect the team is going to take a closer look at visual effects gone wild for the near future
I truly hope so.
I'm looking forward to seeing direct action and results if that's the case
Only time will tell, though
i’d like game to stop tryna harm me so i can play again, yuh.
Oh yeah, I advise you not to play currently because apparently the screen can randomly turn bright white. Stay safe ❤️
And WC and others wonders why we "complains" about it x.x

My epilepsy appreciates people not throwing snowballs at me
May the white screen never hit you also since there is no way to stop that and it's purely the game
Yeah the ignoring of the warning had me delete a few people and out right not play as I am sadly someone with the flashbang still... Tbh the white screen also keeping me off
Since apparently doing anything in the game runs the chance and I already struggle with the overall brightness change from a few patches ago
i feel comfortable saying nobody at the studio wonders why it's getting complaints, at least
Yeeaaahhhh. I literally have never been hit thank God
So.... bugs aside, did everyone/is everyone having a nice Holiday?
this made me do a sad chuckle
I never really do much on christmas but it's been a decent few days at least, my friend who has a big family tho brought over enough food for like a week for me lmfjkas so I'm satisfied
Hopefully you got everything you asked from Santa! 😄
No gifts but technically I did get a cute doodle from secret santa!
Nice! I could have gotten nothing and been happy, my daughter got absolutely spoiled so that's good enough for me. My wife got me a new garden hose, bluetooth headphones and some chemicals for the hot tub which sound like boring gifts but I like functional over flashy.
Ooooo nice!
I think I'd be thrilled if someone drew something for me. That's such a thoughtful gift too.
Yeah, we did a secret santa at the Alan Wake server I'm in, we all gave each other things like fanart/fanfics/whatever other creative things (I think someone did a video edit?)
hilariously out of 23 people who joined it, RNG gave me my bestie of over a decade, so I had easy mode in that I knew perfect things to write for her LOL
Funny how things work out that way sometimes. I have a huge family so we usually try to keep our gifts small. Some years when I'm feeling motivated I'll bake something like a cheesecake for a few people as well.
I think about it a lot, but material goods can be purchased so easily. I don't really get that same feeling as something like a drawing my daughter made for me.
idk what is with today but almost each server i've been on today so far i've come across the not so nicest players :/
Sometimes the holidays can bring out the worst in people. You can usually tell who the lonely people are around this time of year.
definitely, understandable. i was just in a server where a group chops all the grove trees down the second it spawned and i asked them to wait bc i was omw and incase others need flo and they laughed in chat when i called them out and asked why i "ran away" ummm bc the trees were gone!? ...idc i left the server but wow that was something else
I know it probably hurt your feelings for them to treat you that way, but I wouldn't take it personally. There are selfish players in every game.
Honestly, just don’t give the grumpy people acknowledgment/power. don’t make it a thing. Don’t participate.
I seen this happen in so many communities, as soon as it’s a known topic of discussion more people talk about it, more people participate for attention. It’s not worth it. Be kind to others, and if they’re not nice, move on to someone else
If it wasn't you, they'd treat someone else that way because that's just the way some people are. Usually those are the kinds of people I just laugh to myself about, put on my block list and move on with my day like nothing happened.
exactly, thats why i left to change servers. i'm not hurt about it it was just such a weird interaction.
it was one of those 'wtf did that really just happen?' moments lol
Do you feel better now that you've talked about it a bit?
yes ahah thank you
Good! I'm glad 🙂 Hope you get the next grove.
People definitely shouldn't be rude about it but it's also not a requirement to wait. If people are already in a party and want to optimize their playtime that's fine as well.
Just wish they'd implement some dungeons / instances where parties could actually go and collect some rare resources. :/
On the bright side at least we have flow seeds so we can invite people over to chop as much flow wood as they could need.
We just need something like that for Palium now 🙂
Any tips on catching the jewelwing dragonfly and leafstalker mantis in Bahari bay? It's the last 2 things I need, to complete the temple bundles.
Leafstalker you can find by harvesting forageables in the northern section. Dari Cloves / Sweetleaf
Jewelwing is usually up on the cliffs above the Pavel Mines
The wiki has more information about both of them. I wrote the pages but I can't remember the exact details at this point lol
Perfect! Thank you 😊
You're welcome, good luck!
Side note to what Roan said, but bringing a honey lure will definitely increase your chances of finding what you're looking for assuming you're in the correct time/place.

Very delayed response, but yes! Made cheesecake on Crimmas Eve with my brother, then this morning, we made homemade pizza
Are we ever gonna see an update that makes it to where you can go past level 5 friendships and 4 romances? I feel like once you’ve maxed everything the game isn’t as fun
we first need friendship 5 on all villagers
but they are hardfocusing on elderwoods atm so that won't happen anytime soon probably
A dev also said they need more people to get to friendship 4 with NPCs so they can work on level 5. I guess some of the unpopular NPCs people just don't bother to befriend... probably the ones who are a pain to find / you don't run into very often.
Due to varying VFX settings among players, snowballs can cause a flashbang effect, so please refrain from throwing snowballs at known or unknown players without their consent. It may trigger seizures, migraines, or nausea in photosensitive individuals when hit due to the flashbang effect.
yeah still not fond of that approach, there's plenty of people who have said even in this discord that they outright refuse to befriend specific npcs because they dont like them. feels like it should be more of an all-or-none situation imo
like staggered is fine, doesnt need to be all at once, but I dont think they should just not work on the rest of them because they havent had what they think is enough people try to befriend them...
i think it's more about investing development time with the characters more players will enjoy/ experience, at least that's how i took it
no I completely understand that, I just don't agree with it. and I'm sure that people whose favorite characters are some of the less liked ones probably wouldnt be happy about it either long-term.
gotcha

I'm a completionist so naturally I befriended all the characters lol. Even though there is one on particular I loathe..lol
I did too on my first account before any of the lvl 5 quests were out. my second account I havent befriended anyone though, no more accidental shepps for me
never again...
In my case, I'm taking my time befriending people and completing quests specifically to give myself time to enjoy the game fully and the devs time to create and release more of the story. Their model of waiting for people to hit certain levels in order for new ones to be released feels very "x amount of reviews for the next chapter to be released" imo
the NPC thing baffles me because it'a a catch-22: the more focus and development time that goes into popular characters, the more appealing they'll seem compared to the ones that are neglected because they started off less popular
I actually understand a lot more if what's actually holding back a lot of them is that they want to tie them in to Elderwoods, it makes sense for a number of the characters that havent gotten their level 5's yet. But it feels a bit ridiculous that we got the first level 5 quests in April and we still only have 7/25 characters available as the new year rolls around. Only two patches included any new friendship levels? 😞
i hope its more like “every 2-3 patches until the elderwoods” that they do friendship upgrades cuz yea to mee it seems a little silly to be doing stuff like content locking relationships just cause certain npcs aren’t talked to much, i know some ppl avoid certain npc cuz they don’t like them or they only got them to 3 for other characters, maybe they don’t like their decor items.
like even a “we’ll see when they unlock :)” would be better than saying that
the patches were in April and May, we havent even gotten one with friendship quests in half a year now lol
my concern is that focusing too heavily on only what's popular has a way of gradually making the less-popular ones seem even worse due to being neglected
i haven’t noticed it’s been that long cuz i personally was doing other stuff in game or irl happend
i know others take their time with the relation ships to not rush what we have
honestly I had to look up how long it had been because I knew it had been a long enough time to be... noticeable, but couldnt remember when exactly
I'd say if we will get any lvl 5 before elderwoods it will be like 3 max
everything they currently focus on is elderwoods
its probably just a matter of priority, the majority of players didn’t even care for the other lvl 5 that were introduced
(even tho they were rly nice imo especially the extra effort they put into the lvl 5 quests)
it just seems like they initially planned to do lvl 5 one by one and then the layoffs hit, would at least perfectly line up with when we got the last friendship 5
I'm okay with friendships, but I don't want to romance anyone, I have no interest for any of the characters. But yeah, would be nice to have more quests in general. I know it's hard, but still.
mmm i can see that 😔 i liked the level 5s too esp cuz they come with little animations
and afaik that’s ok to not romance, it’s just one aspect of the game but it doesn’t seem like they will force that on anyone to get past certain goals (unlike friendships which would need 3+ for most characters)
That's good to know!!
guys i wanna share a bit about my experience lately in Palia, so i just bought all the soil and start farming a lot of tomatoes as my way to gain money, but every i harvest about 200 more tomatoes, the server lags and some of my precious item disappear from my inventory but what's weird is tomatoes i had put in shipping bin appeared in my inventory again, it's doubling so i get doubled money also. i know this glitch seems awarding, however still some of item could disappear like my 6 palium bar and 5 silk:((

how to report?
use the link above :)
okay
The problem with that is that there a a lot of people that just quit the game in various states so if they are looking at the total numbers we may never get there. I would hope that they are taking the numbers based on the number of players that actually play rather than the total number registered to play the game. Even here in the discord there are a lot of people that said they just stopped playing for various reasons.
even the "actually play" stats are going to be skewed by people who log in for login rewards with the intent to play later, but are waiting for more content to add up (this is another thing people here have mentioned that they do)
True. I login on Sundays to do my achievements and collect any login rewards or twitch drops. Other than that, tbh I don't login much besides that as I have maxed out my money, and storage is full and I have 4 full plots decorated. I have completed all quests and all romance/friendship levels. I think they could get people to play more if leveling up actually gave you a reward such as gold or an item. Right now there is no reason at all to go above 50 to get the trophy's. Even anything past 10 doesn't give you any advantage at all which is baffling to me.
Yea i think incentivizing some type of rewards for 75/100 maybe not trophies of course, but something else like an earnable outfit or some other decoration maybe.
It also doesnt help that you have like some have said characters that are out of the way, (more so subira since she DOESNT leave her room).
It also doesn't help in my opinion showing off certain things in preview before patch, and its not even close to half of what they showed (black/brown/white recolors, garden snail plush that isn't the one we have).
Clearly its either a lack of communication between different teams, or like them showcasing things that are months to come as some have suggested, but each update keeps getting more and more disappointing.
I expected way more colors rather than just the sets getting the current colors based off the video and that made me upset. On top of it they keep majorly breaking tons of stuff each update (chat, servers etc.) that it seems more unplayable each time.
I truly enjoy the game, but its frustrating seeing many items that should be placeable in certain areas, now broken.
Another thing too is the cap of the Guild coins. There are so few items to buy with them I don't even do the furniture achievements anymore as there is NOTHING to buy with it. At least the mining and fishing as items that you can use in gameplay but how many easels and tool chests do I really need?
Exactly, like i think the only guilds that are fine with the stuff they have are bug, farming, forage, mining, hunting, and fishing. I don't think cooking and furniture making have enough rewards to make it worth repeatedly going to?
My suggestion is adding the ability to buy more growable furniture seeds from Tish after you unlock each one. And the ability to purchase silk/fabric with coins if they don't add a clothing guild. Adding on to this- let us buy Modification kits from her guild store.
I do think Jel needs a guild for clothing, because there should be ways to earn more cosmetics for free in game (as all other free to play games have) having his staple furniture items be like, a fabric rack, sewing machine, and some other similar items. While also adding the ability to buy fabric/silk from him (since that fits textiles better than furniture). I think him having a guild would make him more promient in the game since you can just use to premium store button in inventory rather than going to him.
what do you mean by "the ability to purchase silk/fabric with coins"? you can buy them from tish's cash register in her store (not on her, but towards the back of the store)
to go with that idea if they want to add more different guild stores( like clothing for example) they could throw it in bahari city so it’s like you have a “reason” to go to the city, maybe they have the dyes/certain recipes like how there are certain skill npcs in different cities/towns/outskirt locations in other mmos like wow/ffxiv,, just so not everything is in kilima
She meant guild coins not gold
I know that you can buy those items from her normal store, but she doesn't have tons to buy with guild coins is the issue. Being able to spare some my money not having to buy materials would be great. Same idea as you can just buy iron/copper/silver bars from hodari, but i could just buy an ore compass from him using my guild coins.

Honestly Palia characters are so well thought out
I realize that you can now recolour certain items that you couldn’t before. BUT you still can’t recolour the kilima inn set. What’s up with that?
And I want more colours. *I know I know everyone does
Even though I think Guild Wars 2 has plenty of flaws in other areas, I think their dye system is about as perfect as it gets. Guild Wars 1 as well.
Hey so it is frankly inexcusable that I have been unable to see other players reliably and accurately for months despite my settings being as low as possible and all of the alleged performance updates the team have made.
I would love to be able to play my glorified dress up simulator that I have spent hundreds on
I am on PC
I have seen almost nothing but player ghosts since the spring, it has been a recurring issue ever since the graphics overhaul
I'm not really a hardware expert, but roughly how old is your PC?
I have to rely on screen cheating off of my fiance in areas like the underground market to ensure I am not cutting in lines and ensure I am accurately near others
One year old. I got it December 2023, AMD Ryzen 5 7520U with Radeon Graphics 2.80 GHz + 16gb ram
Have you tried asking for help in #💻│tech-help ?
A few separate times and nothing really helped
I cant run at low, cause then i don't see the mineores to "mine" so have to go medium, is this a similar problem?
Yes!! I have to have certain settings higher which impacts performance

Why is that effect even a possibility then....
mm good question
Dang, sounds like it could be something on S6's end then. My PC's 2022 and definitely not high-end by any means and doesn't run into these issues.
I feel like this is actually a bad notice to have because bad actors now know they can cause real world harm to vulnerable people via a videogame
It certainly is on S6's end, unfortunately :( I have done everything possible
It is just personally very frustrating to me because I used to be able to flawlessly run this game on this PC, it was never an issue, and then they did something with the graphics or the lighting engine and my game has been unplayable / miserable to play since then. It feels like a kick in the face after giving them so much money because of how fantastic and accessible of an open world rpg it was
I am still mad that a vital piece of gameplay is locked behind medium graphics settings. Tell me you do not care about your lower-to-mid-range PC players without telling me
I guess high-end PC owners are the most likely to have disposable income to spend on $35 skins
I haven't played since September but I may have to log in to see if anything other than the snowball flashbangs has changed
I think S6 has just been going through it for a while lol. When WC was answering questions and addressing concerns last week he seemed pretty genuine and it seems like they're just in over their heads over there between having issues with bugs on updates and having to stick to Nintendo's update guidelines.
He even mentioned the snowball VFX bug and how they pretty much have to wait until after New Years to fix it because of it being the holidays and also Nintendo's strict update policy.
But I guess they need approval from Nintendo for every update which is unfortunate.
I do definitely feel for the dev team. I just think they need to understand the optics of being able to release increasingly complex and animated outfits for more and more money while, at the same time, more and more of the lower-to-mid range playerbase are becoming unable to play the game
Their priorities seem a bit skewed, I think there would be an overall positive reaction to a purely bug-focused update given the pile of them that is accumulating with only trickles of fixing
There is still a shelf item I have owned since December 2023 that has never had it's hitboxes fixed, for example. It is still coded as a solid rectangle despite the detailed bug report I submitted
This is an item you can fish up, so anyone can get it
In a perfect world, we would all rejoice at devs doing updates to remove bugs. But unfortunately bug-removal isn't flashy and doesn't sell 😄 I 100% sympathize with you because I feel the same way about the current state of Palia and live-service games in general. The meta for most of these games just seems to be "Release crumb of content, release massive cash shop update, oh no bugs. Hope no one saw those." 😄
A good metaphor that reminds me of the current state of the live-service and mobile games industry is when I bought my house. The building inspector told me that the brick-mortar part of the foundation had a little damage and would need to be fixed in about 8-10 years or else it could cause some foundation issues. I asked "In the meanwhile, can we paint over it and pretend it's not there til we get the money to fix it?" He said "Sure you can, but just remember; painting over crumbling mortar is like putting lipstick on a pig. You can try to make it as pretty as you want, but at the end of the day it's still a pig." And that's how a lot of these companies treat their games. There's crumbling foundations that need to be addressed every few years, but in the meanwhile they're painting over them because it's more attractive than investing real time/money in fixing what's wrong.
Last part of the rant I swear. But there are too many boring games out there with predatory "cosmetic" cash shops (Let's be honest, cosmetics are just as important as functional parts of a game) that players will flock to and say "Look at this free game! These devs and this company are good actors because the game is free! Then proceed to pay hundreds of dollars in cosmetics for what would have been unlockable for free in another game while the base game itself changes little or not at all over its lifetime. Then we cringe when a paid game comes out with DLC that actually has content and unlockable cosmetics in it because "We shouldn't have to pay for DLC!". 🤷
i blame the horse armor for starting it all
I guess I play Runescape, so none of these issues really apply to me anyways lol. I just like to rant. sorry.
i do think there are a lot of games out there using an incorrect monetization approach which sours peoples' expectations for other, similar (or just similarly-monetized) games
"Back in my day, our games had QA testers!" Okay grandpa, time for bed.
I agree. I think Palia could have been in a better place if they had a very light ($10 a month/season) subscription/season pass model and had been upfront about it. Then had just reduced cash shop prices and made them non-predatory amounts of Palia Coins.
Heck, S6 could have even made it so that you can purchase a season pass with ingame gold. Something like $300k gold a month wouldn't be asking much given how little we use gold right now.
i actually think Palia had the right approach to start, but then it got too popular where their hosting/ infrastructure costs outstripped their whales. and they didn't pivot quickly enough once they saw those conditions
In my own experience, I think for a "freemium" game to succeed, there has to be hundreds if not thousands of hours of content to keep players coming back. I think Palia has maybe 300-400 hours of content at most.
personally i'm not opposed to them bringing in some kind of season or 'battle'pass at this point, though i know those can be a bit contentious
(and i have sunk hundreds of hours into gardening just because i love it that much, but i realize i'm probably an outlier there)
I think part of the reason why Once Human does so well is because it uses a similar approach to Palia where you get all of the content in the game for free, but there are potentially thousands of hours you can spend searching for perfect Deviants (Their version of pokemon), upgrading weapon blueprints, homebuilding in Eternaland, etc. just as an example.
I've probably spent a couple hundred hours designing my house in my Palia Plot but after a bit it just felt pointless because beyond decor, I didn't feel like Palia had much to offer me once I had already caught all the bugs/fish.
I just also don't see the justification in buying outfits from the shop when I find most of the multiplayer activities in Palia to feel like a chore. The closest thing to excitement I feel from multiplayer was from Maji Market or when I was going for pirate furniture but the charm of hot pot wore off real quick.
It's also not very gratifying when someone compliments your outfit and asks where you got it and the answer is always "From the cash shop".
my experience with the shop outfits has been more about distinguishing people, especially as we've gotten more and more choices over time
back in the Alpha days with a limited selection, we had a lot of group photos where half the players were using the same color and style outfit, so if their hair was similar it got real hard to tell who was who
but nowadays even with the limited mix-and-match possibilities, i see way fewer duplicate outfits and color twins, unless it's deliberate
(not to diminish the folks who want to wear their achievements, it's just never been my style)
Even guild outfits for hitting a certain level would be really nice.
I think paid cosmetics are fine and all. Another concept I struggle with is that I can go to a store right now and buy a nice tshirt and jeans for $30. Some of the outfits in Palia's store are going for double that lol. Always made me scratch my head.
yeah, the trick might be stepping on their own monetization toes, unfortunately. like we already have a gardening outfit in, i think it's called Harvelia? so why buy that if you've earned the one for level 100
At the same time, a player with a level 100 gardening outfit will have likely spent so much time on Palia they've probably bought other things from the cash shop by then and the sense of pride they get from their 100 gardening outfit will keep them playing.
if time played reliably equalled sales, maybe, but personally i doubt it
though i don't have any examples coming to mind either way
I just don't get what Palia has to offer veteran players then 🤷 . Veteran players are an important aspect of any multiplayer game to help retain newer players and set goals for them.
i also think there's a hurdle with how much you can wear at one time. some people change clothes in-game as often as they do IRL, but i found a combination of fits that suit me and it's what i wear 90% of the time
When veteran players are quitting in droves because "Oh look, another buggy update with 80% cosmetic shop and 20% ingame content. Guess I'll play for another week, get bored and quit again." that can't be healthy for your game.
Palia has a major identity crisis in that it struggles so much with trying to figure out with who it wants to cater to, it ends up pushing all of its potential audiences away.
The cooking system for example is great, but is suffering from major bugs. So what's to stop players that enjoy cooking from finding a game that does cooking similarly or better and without the bugs?
ideally, the fact that their friends are still in this one, but i get you
I think, if you work in a toxic work environment with bad management but your co-workers are great, that's not a reason to stay at a job. Why should we treat our games any differently?
If I've learned anything about any kind of activity whether that be jobs, gaming, hobbies. If you truly love what you do and are genuine with yourself, you will make friends no matter where you go. Palia is no exception.
Palia's community is great. Probably one of the best. But Palia itself is on fire. You eventually get faced with the choice of whether you want to stay in a burning building because your friends are also in that building with you, or whether it's time to move on.
i mean it's kind of a false dichotomy, because there's a lot of different reasons why people play, or don't. and it kind of assumes that things are a lost cause
I mean, S6 said it themselves when they were acquired by Daybreak. They likely would have been out of business within the year if not for their help. If that's not an argument for Palia being a lost cause when they've been part of Daybreak for nearly a year now with not much improvement idk what is.
acquisition was 6 months ago, thats not nearly a year
i think one thing, where this is still beta even if it’s not advertised, they still have that time to tweak things as needed, with the launch of elderwoods we will see how people react to it and some will leave some will stay, once they hit actual “real” they would have the base for most things already set and then since this is a live game make more changes as needed. i don’t think it’s “on fire” per day but there is some heat that to some players is more apparent, especially to those in the discord
cuz yea as just mentioned they were in trouble before the acquisition, hopefully we see how the next year will be
they didnt advertise Palia as a beta anywhere for Switch though so tweaking things too drastically can actually cause players on there to feel lied to and leave
yea it’s not alpha so big changes can’t be made but i meant more like they can change some drop rates, or something like that, again it’s a live game not one that is set in stone
i'm definitely a bit sour how they hid the state of their studio until everyone was blindsided by the cuts
but the fact Daybreak was willing to take the gamble, tells me there's still hope to correct the dive
I dont think something like drop rates would fix any of their problems really tbh
like I get where you're coming from but I'm not sure there's anything they can actually do at this point aside from actually getting new content out & fixing bugs faster & more acccurately than they currently are
and in the meantime i'll keep planting my carrots and chilis
nah it was just a quick example, but there’s many other things that could be adjusted/fixed like bugs etc
that’s my mindset, again from playing other games that closed i’m just glad i get to play at all, i do wish the best for this game and hope elderwoods is what most people want, i know can’t please all though
and re: the game label, i don't think that'd stop them from making major changes to their systems if it was needed. we've seen plenty of MMOs overhaul stuff to make it more fun
I didnt say they wouldnt do it, I said "can actually cause players on there to feel lied to and leave" because beta was brought up as the reason for why they can make changes
but switch was not warned of the game being in beta, at all. they removed all labeling right before switch launch
and it’s not on the steam launch iiirc
yeah it didnt get mentioned for steam either, though that one at least has user forums with people talking about it
so yea it’s kinda like they are gonna take a hit from that but new players will join so again we will see how the next year of the game does
doesn't it say beta on the initial loading screen where it asks you to press any key?
i'm not much of a Switch gamer, but that doesn't seem like too big a danger to me
i don’t think so, only if you got it from the palia website iiirc
only on their native launcher
only switch doesn't have the beta label
ahh
On Steam too
that's from steam
Yeah they can't say it's in beta on Switch or they risk wrath from Nintendo
because beta games arent supposed to be on Nintendo's stores... except for limited ones
they're the ones who did something they werent supposed to do, yet nintendo gets flak for it
Because it's a stupid rule?? Other major platforms allow beta without any problem
and Nintendo doesn't. and S6 agreed to this when they launched anyway. defending this is stupid
you don't get to break platform rules and then be like "oops sorry" when you get called out for it, it's not allowed in the first place
Sorry, I won't ever defend Nintendo. They do way too many stupid things to deserve any goodwill at this point
yeah, they do, but this is still S6's fault for lying like wtf. it doesnt even make SENSE to blame Nintendo for it
I'm surprised palia wasn't removed from the Nintendo store for the whole beta thing considering you can just look up stuff and see it's still in beta
Whether you have a seething hatred for Nintendo or not, it's still their platform, their rules
You don't wanna follow their rule, then don't release on their platform
I think Dreamlight Valley was also allowed on Switch while technically still in beta, so it doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule
Tbh trying to care about Nintendo after they decided to do that stupid patient lawsuit is hard. They don't own monster catching mechanics at all they ain't the first
Palia was even featured in a Nintendo Direct
Disney dream light was in early access, which is different compared to palia. It also wasn't as much of a buggy mess either
I found it super buggy lol
Yeah they don't, they just got salty that a competing game was so successful
Oh here we go again.
at this point it’s going to be just: wait for posts s6 makes about the game, for any big bug fixes to arrive (like the cauldron one or the flashing if they can figure that one out), wait to see how elderwoods will pan out and what players independent reactions to that will
be. it probably won’t be “bug free” but as long as nothing game halting like the ones we have it should be ok. we all know(this win the discord and those that actually look things up on google for the game) at this point S6 isn’t good at communication to players as we want them to be
I can't play dream light since it cost money and even more for the dlc
Look up details on a legal situation past what your favorite youtuber says challenge (ultimate)
Amyway I'm gonna step away cause I feel my blood pressure rising lmfjkashd later y'all
they can't even deal with if you move time zones, I moved across the world and quests were tagged to my old time zone. I updated my Switch time zone to my new location and the game wouldn't adjust. Reached out to their help desk, and they were like nope, the game is running as expected.
i wonder if that’s because they mentioned something about everyone being on the same “shard” and not regional ones
so it’s being weird
oh i stopped playing entirely when IT was like nah, wake up at 2/3am your time to continue some quests. lol
Due to varying VFX settings among players, snowballs can cause a flashbang effect, so please refrain from throwing snowballs at known or unknown players without their consent. It may trigger seizures, migraines, or nausea in photosensitive individuals when hit due to the flashbang effect.
Wake up at 2-3am?
Do you have.. do you have..... a proper sleep schedule?

i mean, sometimes Ido for work
the only time I've changed a sleep schedule for in game things is for event in Final Fantasy 14 haha
ive not played since like september, just wondering if they removed the disapearing furniture from the tower cus sometimes they go sometimes they dont
Sorry, nearly 6 months ago. Argument still stands that not much has improved since. Maybe in another 6 months I'll be wrong. I hope I am!
Maybe Elderwoods comes out and it's the best update in the history of live-service games and I'm completely wrong. Maybe Elderwoods ends up in development heck and Palia ceases to exist. Either outcome is fine with me at this point.
Yeah, I’m playing other games until it stops being buggy. I realized too late that throwing money at the thing in hopes they would fix it was just enabling them to never fix things.
Buy games straight out that are finished, tested and work. I’m enjoying the new games I got.
how do you find those though
Word of mouth🤷🏽♀️
I heard Balatro is pretty lit
if i'm gonna play a card game it's gonna be on motorcycles
I think the nature of coding is that all games in the history of forever are buggy, but some bugs make games better and some make games worse, and some games are so great we can look past the bugs. Palia is none of those.
but i was mostly salty about how many interesting games are in some flavor of early access, it's getting difficult to find the genres i'm playing anymore, in a full release unless i'm playing three or four years out of date
Horse bug in Skyrim? Makes the game better since now you have an ATV. Bugs in Runescape? Fine because they don't impact the game enough that anyone really cares and the ones that do Jagex fixes in a timely fashion. Disco deer still teleporting into terrain even though it has been "fixed" numerous times? Now that's a problem.
Yeah I noticed this, and I think the industry are taking advantage of the gamers who fund kickstarters and buy things pre release. We should all be more discerning until theres evidence the thing isnt broken & incomplete
Agree. EA is just a predatory way for devs to get players to PAY to QA for them which is absolutely insane.
the most insane thing is paying for alpha access
that really boils down to how much grace one is willing to extend the game, which will be a personal call. for me i'm enjoying palia so much that i play around the bugs; other people aren't willing to do that
and some of us can't, regardless of willingness (snowballs & the white screen thing)...
Also, games that are in beta/early access shouldn't have a cash shop; period. What if the devs decide they just want to stop developing the game and now players have spent money on a cash shop for a game that's now in maintenance mode/no longer exists? This happened to me with the card game Jagex came out with years ago.
or aren't able to, very true, don't mean to dismiss those serious issues
Can we all just agree that the games industry is a mess right now?
as long as game play isn't locked behind a premium shop, i don't see the issue with a shop for just decorative skins. no one is forcing to buy those things
Just to come out with a hypothetical example: What if a dev came out with a game where all the player skins were just stick figures? The gameplay itself was immersive and fun, but in order to customize your character, give it a name, dress it, all cosmetic functions, you had to pay real money? Would that game be worth playing?
as a standalone concept, sure, it's neutral. it depends on how that's integrated to the rest of the game
i just wouldn't choose to play that game.
Its just that it sends a message of being willing to take for a half completed thing.
"hey this feature we have could potentially kill you or put you in the hospital so maybe close your eyes or something. We don't know"
it’s like buying a lotto ticket or some random item that you won’t use anymore/throw away, some have sentimental things for some people (like taking pics with friends) so it’s up to the person to decide if they want to buy this item, especially when it comes to digital ones as you don’t have it physically and there’s always that chance that it’ll be gone at somepoint, i don’t like stores in an alpha but beta seems to be ok
Then why is there so much shovelware out there making money that's essentially the same thing I just mentioned? When have we started accepting this as the norm?
Aesthetics are important to me and so is style. I’d never play a stick figure game
I'd be a skinny, nameless naked legend
because people are bad with money and don't have self control. and since gaming studios have found it works, it's a model that continues. it isn't some giant conspiracy theory.
I could go into a long list of reasons why palia's specific implementation is a problem, because the problem is NOT with the existence of the shop itself, but rather how it's handled
And in Palia's case, one of the major stand-out issues is that there is no way for a player to show off their progression or achievements outside of their home plot. 99% of the game's earnables are some type of home decor, or items you use in some way to obtain home decor, and if you tire of decorating your plot.... well...
Would you agree then that there need to be protections in place to protect consumers in the games industry from bad actors?
i'd have to know what kind of protections are being suggested before offering an opinion
