The problem isn't that they're selling cosmetics in a cash shop, the problem is that they're basically depriving the game itself of earnable rewards by putting everything cosmetic in the cash shop.
If you don't like home decor, there.... are virtually no other types of rewards that you can earn??? and that's a huge issue, especially for people who like to see their character "grow" and have a sense of visual progression as they play

cosmetics that're actually earnable through gameplay amount to:
nameplates: maji market and new quest completion one are the only reasonable ones. That's exactly... two. We don't talk about the home tour ones.
and then the other thing is... fishing bobbers. Not fishing rods, fishing bobbers.

That's it. That's all we've got in the way of earnable cosmetics we can apply to our character themselves.. There's literally nothing else.

it depends what you mean by 'progress' - there are plenty of other quests and activities you can do, but the main story thread does require you to do the temples quests

From what I could see, there were indicators on screen for where resources were located, but not like the overlay extension.

nope, they stay in the storage inventory, but you can't add more until you replace the chest and/or remove enough to get below the new level

You're storage becomes momentarily over encumbered

But if certain types of items get sent to storage (like when you pick up a room & there isn't enough space in your pockets so the decor gets sent to storage) - they can get lost to the either - I.E Star Quality Starstones & Star Quality Food

So try your best to not be in this state for too long.

you can just craft a new one & place it on the other plot.

the 8 limit is per plot (you just stop gaining any effects after 8)
Same with Loxboxes (only the limit is 3 per plot)

So like... I really like the long hair from this set, but I really dislike the outfit, its not my character's style at all.
meanwhile I really like the masculine version of the outfit (aside from the ugly effects, please let us disable them already S6) butdon't really care for the hat on that one.
and palia offers no way to mix and match those short of buying both, and I refuse to even entertain the idea of paying $50 just to complete one outfit for my character and getting multiple pieces I will never use in the process

I think for some people it's a "flex" thing. I used to know someone who was in a bad financial spot but splurged on the most expensive outfits and pets just to pretend they were better off than they actually were. But then again, who am I to judge.

I want to see the game grow too and have definitely considered splurging on it before, but I'd rather do it when the game's in a more "stable" condition. What you're describing is essentially what The Sims 4 has become with EA, they keep churning out broken DLCs because people keep buying them.

Even if you had paid for the game… you would still have an in game store, with an in game currency, that you purchase outside of the game. That is just the gaming model nowadays. Of course here it doesn’t affect any sort of gameplay features just lets you look cute/fancy/cool if they choose.

I personally don't believe that the transactions themselves are the issue with the game but more like the value of things you're receiving from the purchases themselves. The content is good, the cosmetics are cool, and the pets are adorable. However I don't want to spend $50 for currency that is going to get me an outfit or so when I can easily purchase a meal for my family for that amount of money.

When it was just outfits, I was not pleased, but still willing to see where things would go.
Then it became outfits and pets, and I got a bad feeling that it would only get worse.
Then it became outfits and pets and tool/glider skins, and I lamented that palia's apparent "all or nothing" stance on monetizing entire item categories was robbing the game from ever having these as earnable rewards.
Then we got plot skins. And emotes. And every time they add a new type of paid 'cosmetic' I just lose more hope that the game will ever feel actually... rewarding to play?
The thing is, you know what else is a cosmetic? Home decor. I feel it's only a matter of time before we see that t--- oh wait we already have that, it's the chapaa 'coffee'.

most F2P game companies understand that there still needs to be a balance:
you do need to make money, but you also need enough earnable/rewards in the game to keep people playing and invested. Because if people aren't interested in playing the game, they're not going to be interested in looking at the game's cash shop either.

The problem palia has, imho, is that they are leaning way too hard into padding the cash shop with more and more stuff, to the point they're actually depriving the game itself of a satisfying variety of earnable goals and rewards.

It's bleeding players - down over 33% the last few months. There needs to be an end-game loop that involves earning high-tier rewards, or much more steady content drips.

My worry for Elderwoods - and I have receipts that I warned about this last year when Open Beta launched - is that they didn't cap skill levels.

People are going to be completely overwhelmed with all the mail / quests they get with the update and just be able to breeze through the new content rather than going through it organically.

all gameplay is free. All the recipes so far, there is no kind of crop that can be only bought or so. Atm the state is fine. Yeah it sucks that you cant get all the cute stuff but the game with houndreds of hours possible playtime is free.
For my opinion most outfits are too expensive with only 3 colors and no animation but the newer once have more colors and special animations. I bought only 2 because i playd so much, that i think the game deserve some support. Most free games have some game stuff sold like faster mounts, more exp, more materials in battle pass or even gatcha. So Palia is perfectly fine as f2p

Tbh everyone should shut up about cosmetics. It's a normal thing to have in free online games. Take Fortnite, Apex, Valorant, Path of Exile, CS, whatever. Paying 30-50 for a cosmetic skin is a default. Mostly without color options.

The only thing that they should change, is actually fixing the bugs actively. Dropping a patch once a month is fine, but if there are bugs they should be worked on continuously and sorted out as fast as possible, not MAYBE in the next month. They should be more transparent with frequent updates on socials about what they're currently working on, showing more teasers. And dropping a bigger update like every 4 months. And everything would be fine.

People seem to mostly only be mad about the cosmetics, because they seem lazy about the bugs and after every patch the devs just disappear for a month, leaving us not knowing if they are aware of the issues or not.

By monetizing broad categories of items without leaving any earnable options, and saying in the same breath that everything monetized will always be "only cosmetic with no impact on gameplay!" they are, in a roundabout way, actually depriving the game of gameplay.

as an example, you might argue that pets are "only cosmetic!"
but... pets will never have gameplay features because they are monetized. simple as that. If we had gotten an earnable pet as an option, we could have had pet-focused gameplay features at some point (with paid pets being more like skins for your earned pet)

This is not the fault of the cash shop. This is the fault of S6's stance that entire categories of items, once paywalled, will never be given earnable options. (the reasonable stance would be to monetize cosmetics on a per-item basis, not a per-category basis)

Yes, it is very common. But in all the games you mentioned, adding League of Legends also to the list, there's an option to earn said cosmetics for free. I currently own 400 skins in League and i paid for about 10% of them.
This is the huge difference everyone is complaining about. This is the first free game i play that doesn't allow earning cosmetics for the character in any way without paying.

I am not against the cash shop. I bought from the cash shop. I am just saying, if you compare it to other games, at least be honest and say that they have free options/lootboxes/whatever. They are not the same.

There are potato pods and twitch drops. The free obtainable items from a lot of games are kind of meh (idk a bout LoL, but it sounds like this is maybe more advanced in this than any other game I mentioned, because I don't care about free skins in Apex or VAL much, doesn't make or break the game for me). There are free clothes to choose from whereas in many game you only have your ONE default skin and that's that. So it's not like you don't have options, it's just different from other games and that's fine.

I agree there COULD be some earnable outfits for like completing certain challenges, getting a Majiri gown for finishing Shepp quest, add a gigarare cosmetic bag to zeki's prize wheel or whatever, to show that you have advanced somewhere in the game. BUT for me the cosmetics are still not what makes or breaks the game, so I don't get it anyway why be so focused on it. Only thing I'm asking for is transparency, weekly bug fixes, monthly updates and quaterly bigger story/content updates, and I'd be good. 😄

Also, in regards to cosmetics in this game... Yes, the game is free, but that is a buisness model that they chose. But the way it's being run, it honestly isn't that great...

Like, for example, that Tarina has been trying to mention. There's no way to earn cosmetics and showcase things in that way. Yes, there's decor, but that is somewhere else and you can't really run around showcasing your achievements, right? Like, earnable outfit or nameplates or something via skills- that would be one way, and it would showcase that you really like a skill. Instead of talking about or showing a screenshot of your level.

There's other ways for that to be done, too, but it's something that doesn't feel great. Everything that is "collectable" being only tied (not counting nameplates at this point! Which is, at least, good step for this), to decor... you can't really showcase that. Having something be earnable that is an outfit, would even give incentive to level other skills, do different skills, etc. It'd promote more gameplay imho.

... Plus, with how buggy decorating on a plot can be currently-- in the sense that the plot number of how many items are on there (since some are showing on empty plots, that you have on previous ones...), it makes it incredibly difficult to keep collecting decor things to put down for some. It all adds up.

Legit, if Palia fixed their bugs and actually did something with the game, I'd be all for paying for it. I pay a sub for WoW, buy xpacs, buy mounts and pets and merch, and I have ZERO complaints with that. I get a great deal for what I spend, But Palia can only produce new cosmetics. EVERY SINGLE 'UPDATE' breaks something core in the game. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

And the level (or lack thereof) of respect for the player base and decent communication is insulting. I don't spend money on people who insult me.

I think jumping puzzles are awesome when they're just "for fun" or not required for progression.
FFXIV, for example, has a "sightseeing log" where many of the vistas you need to complete it are at the ends of jumping puzzles, but the sightseeing log itself is an entirely optional 'side game' that is not tied to the main story in any way at all. At most, the only thing you'd miss out on by not doing it, is just 100% completion on the sightseeing log itself and some unlockable paintings for your home (which others can give to you anyways)

When this happens, it's best to travel to your housing plot via a stable board or the map fast travel and then reload your game- usually the issue is server specific and this will make it so you load into a new server when you go back to bahari or wherever

Question about the update yesterday. In order to be able to craft the winterlights recipes you will need t find all treasure chests. Since I was here last year, I have all the recipes but the patch said just because you knew where they were last year doesn't mean they are in the same place. I waited for an almost a year to get an update to this main quest and it is over with in an hour. I’m extremely disappointed. I didn’t beg for a year to get barely anything to “Continue my story.” After all the purchases and paid content released in the past year I figured that the Layoff would be remedied and we would have a team to put content in the game but our money is going no where? How do I tell Palia that I am extremely disappointed as someone who has played since the start of Beta and I would love to figure out how to let S6 know directly !

I was sucked in because I LOVED how much there was to do. I could always do something and find something. Work on bundles. Find bugs and plushies. Now it’s just an ore grind and the Maji Market is less than half of what it used to be. Even the quests compared to the Wishing Tree quests of the last Market are subpar. It’s like they put all of their energy into making the best game, drop the game, and then do nothing to maintain the same level of quality they gave us to get us. Like a boyfriend that gave you the world and after he starts dating you there’s nothing. Not even a cute date and flowers. And the drops for this twitch promotion? WORMS? WORMSSSSS? RAHH WORMS?!

It definitely doesn’t make sense, low priority but they haven’t created main line content in almost a year. What are they doing that keeps them so busy that it takes a year to fix a mailbox flag and then just totally give up on others and say ‘meh we’re just not gonna fix it’ I have to pretend that I didn’t have a stroke the first time my mailbox glittered and definitely forget about a lot of other things that are vital to the games progression. There is if anything a huge lack of progression so there should be more results somewhere.

Palia makes or breaks Palia Elderwoods can’t save it if S6 doesn’t do better by its players and its employees. And more importantly the people who volunteer for them and put up with all of us getting mad in the discord. They should definitely try their best for the hundreds they had to let go of at the beginning of the game. That was the first step in the downfall of Palia in my opinion. They didn’t have the money to pay employees but now they have all our micro-transactions and should make an effort to try and maybe hire some people back.

there's a bar at the bottom while you're catching fish, when they fight you it reduces that bar and if it runs out you lose the fish. that little dinglehopper makes the bar a little bigger, gives you more space

some folks in a party can't transfer between any zones, which can be worked around by dropping group and then travelling. some folks unrelated to that can't access kilima, and may or may not be able to access bahari. some people can't log in at all, some people who could get in and who could get to kilima can't turn in bundles, but it sounds like the major issue with jina just not appearing (and some gardening shenanigans) were indeed fixed earlier today

but it sounds like most people are just going about their business normally and nothing's wrong for them

So far from my experience use glow worms in any pond with a 5 x fishing together buff
A trout dinner
& a major hook timer booster equip.

Those 3 make it so you have a very low time between when your bobber hits the water & when the fish bites.

& it's basically just churning out those slot machine pulls till you hit the jackpot. (The gloworms don't increase your chances as a note, it just makes it so you don't get any boots and are like "omg a plu... 🤬 it's another 🤬 boot )

yes, many have. You can't go from the property to Kilima, but if you go out the back to Bahrai then it's possible. Do not use teleport from Bahari to Kilima. Going through the gate only works in bahari. You can't get into the black market at all. Same problem: server problems. I hope it will be fixed soon.

My favorite rewards from the bundles are the ||shrines that give you rewards like the silverwing and kitsu as well as the Gardeners lil galdaur statue which is my absolute fav|| but the other rewards are nice too! It's definitely meant as a long term thing to add to as you progress so hopefully they fix it so you can enjoy the feeling of getting a super rare item in game and have to deliberate if you wanna throw it at the wall in the temple or save it cuz it's special

There may be an explanation why we haven’t heard from S6. The western US is getting battered by a rare once in a decade bomb cyclone that combined with a tropical storm. So not a lot of people on in the western US. California is especially getting battered, and that’s where S6 is so that could be why we haven’t heard from them. Palia is worse than ever now! I can’t get ANYTHING to load. Bahari Bay, my home plot, the underground market, my friends plots,NOTHING! My preserves jars don’t work and neither do my worm farms. i’d even take a 1/month or 1/quarter a rotation of a random outfit for free, im going to compare with the trading post from wow here but every month you get a currency from completing certain tasks and you can spend them on random things from toys, cosmetics, mounts, pets. i feel something like that just to give everyone they chance but also can keep “special” things for their iap store

warcraft didnt used to have that system but tbh i wouldnt even mind event outfits that you get for free from doing a quest chain and then after those quests leave they become buyable on the store like ffxiv

Likely due to understaffing, some errors take longer to fix, others are on the backlog, there could be a million reasons as to why. We don't really know how much money they're actually making, or if they're breaking even at this point.

with things breaking left and right it pretty much seems like they are reworking most of their gamecode and try to clean up the mess that was left from early development to make sure things will be better in the future
