Yeah, I still am passionate about the game to some extent-- it has a special place in my heart. I also very much still care about the community. It's why I'm still so willing to

1. Check the patch to see if any accessibility concerns get addressed, improved, etc.
2. Open the game to help navigate menus, get to specific settings, etc
3. Test specific mechanics/things in the game to answer questions ppl may have, see how it runs, and again, if the accessibility concern/aspect has improved, and things similar.

Unpopular opinion, but either an upfront cost to the game ($20-30) or a monthly Battlepass system that includes exclusive cosmetics ($5-10 a month, but can be paid for with Palia gold.). Lower cost of cosmetics in the premium store and better variety for males and more dye options. F2P cosmetics that can be bought for guild tokens to reflect professions. Bug fixes of course. More freedom in Home decor (Ghosting rooms and furniture floating, for example should just be a feature.), Player feedback surveys at a minimum once a month. Dev streams where they answer questions. I've got more where that comes from but I could write an entire essay on it.

and the fact that you keep seeing the same sentiments repeated across the majority of the reviews speaks volumes. If it's only one person complaining, it's easy to dismiss it as just that person's issues, but when the majority is saying it....

Would it be possible to ignore item collision indoors entirely? While I understand needing to limit what players place outdoors, indoors I would like to be able to move things as close to other objects as I’d like, even if it means they’re touching or overlapping slightly."

I would LOVE more variants of playable arcade machines. There's so much potential with that. Another thing I was a big proponent for were hot pot tables you could purchase for your own home.

I think the devs should just really pay attention to all of these people doing glitch tricks in their plots to just figure out how to enable the editing tools to allow flexibility for that without having to resort to glitching it to make it work.

Had to do stuff similar in FFXIV Housing system. Get some incredible creations but - its super annoying that we can't just do that without glitching as a prereq.

I normally love reading everything in a game but it's just a constant non-stop assault

gw2 i played with fam but they stopped playing and i didn’t have much else ppl to play with at the time so i stopped as well , various reasons ppl play mmos and why they stop, some get overwhelmed by the amount some just looking for something specific that the game didn’t provide for them

I think what turned me off from GW2 were 1.) Better oufits in the cash shop than what you unlocked with achievements that sometimes took months to do. 2.) WvW felt like the endgame of GW2 but most guilds would require you to fit in a specific role; even if you found it boring. 3.) Anet can't balance to save their lives.

i think that’s another reason too, our pcs at the house can’t handle the newer mmos like that, we had once human/ first descendant and it made 2/4 family lag so much they stopped playing

For the cozy/casual MMOs maybe, but in general MMOs have a large level/number-go-up focus that creates a lot of long-term engagement

I love GW2 personally. I love how choices matter via the lore/story and can change depending on what kind of character you have (personality wise) , and i personally never felt pressured to reach end-game. I always felt like i could take my time! There are some things I don't like about the game though... like, there are things that are locked via $$$ that im not a fan of. But I still enjoy the gameplay loop at least

I had a bunch of my Runescape buddies I would usually hop games with, but it got boring playing a new game with them from anywhere from a week to 2 months just to have them decide to quit and move onto something else. I grew tired of "Flavor of the Month" gaming really quick.

I found it was much more enjoyable to play solo and make friends along the way, even if they were just temporary.

I will praise the mount system too. GW2's mount system is second to none. If you grew up with Guild Wars 1 though you'd know how much of a masterpiece that game was.

I like GW2 too, its the game I play when I want to play something fun immediately and with lots of freedom.

I like ESO more for its combat system and that the trinity actually matters there.

And I like Palia because its not combat focussed and I can build and tour and its far more female friendly than combat games are (though I guess GW2 community isn’t terrible, you still get some weirdness)

If i'm misunderstanding, and youre saying you claimed them, an dthey're still not in your actual inventory... maybe in your storage? And if not, may need to contact support!

I skip dialogue a lot in games that feel like they’re just doing the same thing over and over, but I never skip for Palia. The characters just feel more diverse and alive

If it's a game like Once Human, I definitely skip the dialogue because rooty tooty loot and shooty. If the story isn't shallow I'll give it a try.

Guild Wars 2's story is definitely passable too.

Once games start getting into alternate universe nonsense though I just stop taking the franchise seriously. Same goes for DC and Marvel.

Luckily the vast majority of quests let you skip them and still get the same rewards when you start a new season so you don't have to do them over again.

But Once Human's story is basically whatever you want it to be because that's how unimportant it is to the setting of the game.

I was looking at the Pondside Perfection Bundle, and it says it's equal to 52% off at 1,997 coins. The total price of the non-discounted individual items is 4,250. I own the Leapfroggy Outfit already, so the non-discounted price should be 3,400. But neither of these prices would give a total of 1,997 if discounted 52%, right? 4,250 would drop to 2,040 (making 1,997 even better than 52% off) and 3,400 would drop to 1,632 (making 1,997 a ripoff since I already own part of the bundle.)

Or am I totally mathing wrong? (Definite possibility!!)

"hmm yep...sounds like i havent missed anything since i left"
the day they announce separated buyable items from the cosmetics shop is the day pigs fly. or the moon becomes blue, or i sprout weeds.

i am sincere, when i say that i love this game, i come back to it when my brain wishes me to.
but the constant discourse around the microtransactions is such a big and obvious issue, people will leave a game over it, despite the fact that its free.
it was fun in alpha, but my mood has brought down on it to a point it feels like coming home to a "welcome back cheater" party everytime i log in when i remember to.

look, i will be brutal here and say i did buy cosmetics at the start of the game to support the devs, because at the time, i saw the devs nice at a face value, because of how often we sent bugs to them around early access and closed beta
nowadays...it takes an immense amount of power to not buy something from the shop because while i do want to support the devs, the amount of money spent would amount to 2-3 games i could have probably spent on a steam sale. from one "bundle" or from one whole "style" with how pricey they are.
i_grimance_ at the costs and stare at the premium currency menu in dread and at my bank account remembering i need food tomorrow.

would i have bought the same bundle or outfit at 10$? absolutely, would i have done it at 15$? eeh maybe on a good day.

i am a completionist, i don't consider a game completed until i have done everything the game has had to offer. achievements? all must be completed. every thing unlocked? must be done. catalogs of furniture, clothing, bugs, etc? must be completely checked off. i can't do that with palia and it will ultimately make me leave the game i honestly love. because i look at the wardrobe and i see locks on so much clothing outfits. Yes, i complain that they aren't "lore friendly" to the world, i will always pick on the Pretty soldier Sailor Palia outfit for now until the end of the game, but do i still want them unlocked... yes. but because of the high prices of them, i will never be able to get them unlocked and it's a shame

giving f2p players, who may not be able to spend money on the game they love so much for whatever their reason, a means of getting the coins for free to buy the cosmetics would be plenty imho.

and a "simple" solution for how to give player's those coins? have players be forced to decide how they want to sell their items. you can sell to the shipping bin or to zeki's general store/underground for gold if you need to, or you can go to the guild leaders and sell the items to them at half the price of gold for the premium shop coins (for example: say you caught a regular albino eel. you can decide if you want to sell it to the shipping bin for 50 gold, or you can run all the way to einar and sell it to him for 25 premium coins)

doing it this way will not only give players more of a reason to talk to the npcs even after maxing their friendship/romance out, but it will also give players that like to get the cosmetics a chance to do so, and give the players something to actually work towards as they will need to do the work to get the coins. Ultimately, it could also get people to open their wallets a bit more since they would no longer have to look at the huge price tag for one item as they have been collecting the coins over time and are close enough to get the cosmetic they want and just purchase things. that's how i see it anyways.

I bought one outfit when the game first launched- when they put out their AMA that basically said cosmetics in their entirety are going to be completely paywalled, I decided right then and there that I wouldnt spend another cent, no matter how much I liked any future cosmetics.
Not allowing any earnable cosmetic options, through any means, is such a baffling decision to me - it alienates the very audience they're trying to market to.
If my "endgame" is collecting cosmetics, then my "endgame" in Palia can't exist. Why would I even want to play a game where there's nothing to work towards or earn that I actually want?

Cosmetics might not be gameplay, but they're certainly something that incentivize people to play a game.

If WoW ever gets player housing, I'd probably not play anything else again.

I've got a game booted up now, I spent I thing $12 or $15 for the base game when it came out and just spent $7 for the DLC that was released this week. It's not a cozy game (space game), but I've spent nearly 600 hours in it and there's no cash shop.

Base game was created by 2 people, team is now a whopping 6 people, and they've sold a million copies of the base game, fix bugs and deploy hotfixes quickly and listen to their player base.

For clarity, I got there at 4pm in-game time and there were assets still loading in during the chapaa chase. The game frequently turns into a slide show and freezes for so long sometimes I swear it's gonna crash. This is the worst it's ever been for me.

I dunno, the steam charts look pretty consistent player wise. There's been a slow decline since the summer, but it's very slow.

I don't think we've reached the point where the majority of the playerbase has reached the level of distrust / apathy that most of us veterans are at. And until that happens and people start boycotting the game I don't imagine things will improve much.

"but cosmetics are how they fund the game!" the argument usually goes, but most f2p games that monetize cosmetics don't completely remove cosmetics as an earnable reward for playing the game either. And that bit's important because if you just want to play dress up in Palia and dont care about decorating your house, you have zero reason to actually play the game or progress in anything. All the 'free' cosmetics are available to you before you even name your character, all the paid cosmetics are available to you the instant you magically poof into the world and open the menu and your wallet.
There's nothing to work towards, if player-cosmetics are your goal. No sense of achievement, no sense of progress. And that's why I refuse to spend a cent, because I want a game where I can see my character grow and improve, I want to show off my achievements in a way where people can actually see them, instead of having to say "hey will you be my friend so I can show you the trophy room in my house??" because that feels wrong lmao.

Basically they spawn in the south of Bahari during the day, gotta get there right in the morning when things change over and look for a white butterfly but they are definitely the rarest bug in the game.

I didn't get around to doing enough testing to really know if catching normal butterflies helped make rainbows spawn or not unfortunately.

Bug Catching was super fun to me and I had a lot of fun writing the pages and collecting data, but then S6 raised the catch rates because people didn't like the RNG so it felt like I'd wasted a ton of time.

Not necessarily. Daybreak got forced to reign in their terror when they got bought out, so they aren't as bad as they used to be. The acquisition was meant to be hands off, so this smells a bit in house. The shade set in before Daybreak got there, this is just really obvious.

The thing is, people being faster or more "skilled" does not take away or alter the experience for other players outside of the balloon mini-game, which also could have been fixed by simply limiting how many arrows from a person that are "registered" as a hit within a time frame (e.g. 1 arrow per 2 seconds count but any more do not from the same player)

It would have taken much longer to create and implement obviously but I had this vision of each skill having three "paths" or tools for, and you as the player kind of choose which one you want to specialize in.

For Fishing there's obviously the current system where you steadily catch one fish at a time, but an option for people who prefer to party up would have been cool where you could cast a net together, catching multiple fish at the same time. And then people who hate fishing altogether could have traps they could place bait in and come back to later to slowly catch fish over time.

Bug Catching would have that same trap system for people less inclined to hunt them, but then the current bomb system would be more of a "debuff / support role" for partying with a lower chance to outright catch bugs while someone with a net would need to get up close, be precise with their accuracy, but have a higher chance to catch them.

One thing worth bringing up is that a lot of MMO-like games with terrible drop rates usually offer some means of trading for/buying them from other players
so people who like engaging with RNG-as-content can, but others don't have to, and can 'earn' those low-drop-rate items by working towards something of equal value to trade for it instead

I think the reason it bugs me on palia as much as it does, is becuase it seems to be the core and main gameplay atm, and loop, currently. And it keeps feeling like the updates recently that pops up, is more and more related to the RNG.

Whereas on WoW, in comparison... it isnt the main gameplay loop. And at least not everything in that specific category is rooted in RNG. (Pets for example, I can still look and get guranteed pets ... theyre different, but still same category... and when it comes to the loot for endgame, they added Delves and you are guranteed something at high ilvl that way, or thru the weekly vaults.)

I am one of those people ... I can't participate in some of the skills all that much, because of these reasons. I used to be able to manage doing fishing and the like early on, but it's gotten worse over time- and now it's too much for me to fish, for example. Hunting is tolerable if I remember to take breaks and not rush, same with bug catching.

Cooking & Fishing is definitely 2 things that I struggle the most with currently.

I think it boils down to what you want to do in the game, and because there's uhhh... a lack of story progression / not a lot of new content for the players that have been lingering since the Switch & Steam launch, you have a divide. There's the existing players that feel like the plushies are their achievable goals (along with stuff that pops up through the market), and the new players that still feel like the world is your oyster.

If I played right now, there would be soooo much for me to do outside of plushie hunting that I probably wouldn't care too much about the RNG, but I can definitely see why and hoooow there's players that do... because there's not much else for them to focus on.

That's all just my opinion, obviously... but ye.

Which is just... Wild to me. The game's supposed to be in beta and is obviously unfinished, so why are people being punished with a lack of new content when they know there's no reason to even get through the content in the first place? :/

Just options of other ways to do some skills, just so it's more accessible. Or player trading for those items. ((we'll see how the trading is when they release it. I have fingers crossed that it'll be what a lot of us are hoping for lol))

sure the same theme might use the same colors, but then those colors are just thrown wherever without any rhyme or reason
a "classic" piece on one item might have red cloth, natural wood, and white accents
but then a 'classic' piece on a different item in the same set might have red wood, white cloth, and brown accents and it drives me crazy
