are there any plans for more social-styled content to fulfill an "end-game" styled gameplay loop that anyone knows of? The game is fantastic but it seems like it lacks a satisfying hook other than the decoration after 20 or 30 hours

I'm sure Singularity 6 has some plans for additional content, I don't know which exactly though. There's a fourth temple that was mentioned, though.
As far as I know, Palia is still considered beta by S6, so I guess that's part of what we're seeing there, with the not-yet-complete story, too.

honestly I'm not so sure about that, given that their steam page does NOT mention early access anywhere and they scrubbed the beta label from pretty much everywhere but the PC version's login screen

I'd have assumed they'd announc it being non-beta... I have to admit that you're right about the beta references being rare, though. I get there not being any on Switch, Nintendo does not like to publish betas to everyone, so I always assumed that was the case why I don't see it and that on PC it's still officially beta.

I feel like scrubbing the beta label from the switch version is.... dishonest, tbh, if it is still a beta. People deserve to be aware of what they're playing into, or, if they want cosmetics, paying into.
On the other hand, If it's no longer in beta, and S6 just failed to announce it, why does it still say "beta" on the PC login screen?
It just feels.... not right, tbh. I really wish they'd actually say something about it. :/

I think with the Switch, it was either "not publically available on Switch" or "not considered beta on Switch"... At least that seems to be the path Nintendo takes with stuff that goes on Switch.

yeah most people have a hard time understanding two things can be true at once. You can be sympathetic to it being in development and still have valid critcisms of existing systems and bugs, how else do they expect the developers to find the issues they're having players test for?

I agree with that, locking all cosmetics behind a paywall just simply isnt a good move, its clearly a result of a lack of confidence in their ability to push the necessary sales

There's a difference between "having a cash shop" and "the cash shop is the ONLY way to obtain cosmetics"
As I said in my earlier post, the game should have a variety of earnable rewards to appeal to a variety of players. The game only really has earnable home decor, or things that eventually lead to home decor atm

which is great for the people who love home decor, but I feel like Palia could do better than that

It isn’t the only way to obtain cosmetics though. There are a few outfits and all furniture is craftable through items u can find in the world all without spending real money. It’s literally just a few clothes. I agree the clothing/character customization needs work but I think you get a ton of content otherwise.

As much as ppl argue back and forth about whether it’s truly beta or not, this is something that happens with a new game that promises more content to come. Even the base Sims games are bare bones before the expansions and kits etc.

I have zero issue with the fancy stuff like soothsayer, fairy, sky captain, etc outfits being in cash shop, but the herbalist and builder outfits, etc should have been earnable through their related skills. I don't think it's cool to have to pay for those kinds of things.

tau splits his time between kilima and bahari. though sometimes NPCs get a bit buggy and don't follow their usual schedule. if he's bugged on your current server you should be able to find him by switching servers (change to a different zone and go back)

yeah.... my take is, if the outfit looks like it's designed to represent a skill's 'work clothes', it should be earnable through that skill.
If this were some other game, it'd be like telling a knight that they had to pay $$$$ to look like a knight. Or a mage that they have to pay $$$$ to look like a mage, etc.
That is my complaint regarding cosmetics in their entirety being paywalled- you wind up with the situation we have right now, where people who love gardening and focus on that skill can't look like a gardener unless they pay up. People who love the furniture making aspect shouldn't have to pay $$$$ to look like someone whose job is building furniture. >>

I dunno. I mean on the one hand, yeah, painful drop rate, but on the other it's a low key reason for logging in daily after you've knocked out everything else. That and Zekis coins are only real dailies.

i don't mind that the rummage pile exists, but i do think it's weird most of the drops are so terrible considering it's something you can only collect once per day. the majority of drops are something you could have collected yourself in like 5 seconds which only makes it more deflating when you were hoping for a furniture set recipe and instead got something completely useless

imo there should never be RNG involved in getting limited-time event exclusive rewards unless there is either A) an alternate way to obtain the thing or B) a pity system to ensure you can get what you want/need before the event ends

logging on daily for a limited time event, collecting the daily thing, doing everything you can to get what you need and failing to get it because "lol RNG" is the exact opposite of cozy imo

There is still no clothing that you can earn by playing the game itself, no. There have been a tiny handful of cosmetics released via limited time promotional campaigns such as twitch drops or switch launch celebration, but iirc those are over now and the cosmetics offered are no longer obtainable.
This coming update is claiming to be a massive bug-fixing update (over 250 bugs fixed, according to a twitter post) but we still don't know the exact details on that.
I still see a lot of complaints about lack of accessibility options to this day, though.

Lots and lots of new furniture has been added, so if you like decorating there's probably a lot of things to chase and decorate with. There's more temples now, I think, with their bundles and all.... but if you were hoping for something else like more things to do with others (hotpot exists but it's disappearing in tomorrow's update) , or other varieties of rewards to collect outside of just home decor... not really lol.

Last I checked (a few years ago) the auth-service (account linking) and anti-piracy tool were mandatory and the update service strongly encouraged but not required. 'Safe and sound' might imply that the currency you accrue gets stored somewhere with your other account info, even if it isn't visible in the inventory panel out of festivals. At least, that's how it often works in other games with similar systems. So ideally, your envelopes would go invisible after this festival, but they'd show back up the next time the currency can be spent again.

I've definitely been on the side of bug fixer > slowly typing in a large excel sheet every single change I've made and it has been TEDIOUS but that was for internal tracking and not for massive players and their experiences 😂 It has helped immensely to have a list of every single bug fix even though it's tedious and time-consuming

If S6 doesn't do it it's unfortunate that's all, just good habits to have for a programmer imo

When I wrote Skyrim: Jobs I used a combination of MS Project and Autotask. MS-P does very nice Ghant Charts, and Autotask does a wonderful job with trouble-tickets (bug reporting), and I can parse them, complie them, route them out CrystalReports, and have a buglist and fixlist ready in 10-15 minutes.

But honestly I just love helping others, so as a helper it'd be great if those drop rates and amounts were bigger for co-op play, sometimes I even just let other player take the smalls because I don't need pal (and I tend to gift it half the time anyway lol)

Can easily do it solo. Put cabinet down first. Line prep table in front of it. Pick up cabinet and move it somewhere else, but don't place it down. Press number key for another decoration piece to "cancel" the placement of the cabinet. It'll look like you placed the cabinet down, but that's just a ghost. Move your prep table back to where the cabinet used to be. Switch housing plots and switch back. Now prep table is on top of cabinet.

Each furniture type has a rarity associated with it and a different color on its description when you hover over it 🙂 So yeah, like beds and mirrors are rare, pots and things are common, etc.

So you can just make rare log cabin or uncommon homestead items to fulfill your weekly each week, doesn't need to be the high end decor.

Palia is not stable enough for a full release though, Beta is more accurate. Every friend I've referred it to has noticed bugs pretty much within the first 10 mins, which shouldn't be a standard for non-beta games. I think when people know it's beta, they can make an informed decision to play a game and forgive its bugs (people like me), or hold off and play when its more stable (very reasonable decision)

but, at least there was nothing to loose with this game. it's free to download, it's free to play. you don't have to pay anything for it if you don't want to. and while yes, it would have been nice to let people know that the game was still in beta on websites and on the switch... you didn't lose anything monetarily, unlike other games that are supposed to be full releases spending 60+ usd and having to do updates the day of release. If you played for an hour, had fun but didn't like the bugs or glitches, you can put the game "on a shelf" so to speak and wait until later, which a lot of people did, or simply uninstall the game. the thing is, that isn't actually true. there are cosmetics in the shop to buy and people can very easily spend money before finding out it's still in beta (at least on Switch, and in the future possibly Steam), which not everyone is okay with doing.

There have been a lot of EA/Beta games on Steam, and I've watched dozens go up in flames, including one where the Developers just flat out said the community was toxic, the expectations and depands unrealistic, and they were DONE with Steam. There've also been tons of Bailware and Abandonedware games, as well as a litany of outright scams, some still ongoing, from developers who promise the world, deliver low-quality garbage, take the money and run, and have a repuation for doing it.

i think if nintendo was going to be as bad as u all say about it, they should've just. not worked with nintendo. if nintendo sucks so bad and wont let them aptly adveritise their game, WHYYYY are we working with them??

There are a lot of successful EA/Beta games as well, The Finals, Phasmophobia, Valheim, Palworld, the list goes on. The fact is, you can still be successful on steam even with an early access label

Imo choosing to spend real dollars on digital cosmetics either is important or it isnt. You risk "losing" money any time you do this, whether a game is fully published or not. MMOs have gone down in the past after people have sunk in thousands. Regular games have been pulled offline, out of production etc.

Some people are okay with spending on fully released games and potentially losing out but NOT okay with spending on beta games though 🤷‍♀️ you make too many assumptions about what people are okay with spending their money on. I've seen the complaints from people who found out the hard way after Switch launch

you're trying to overgeneralize everyone into "you either spent on cosmetics or you didn't" instead of "you're okay with spending money on cosmetics in x, y, z" situations, which is more often the case

I'm not making any assumptions, that's just the truth. Buying digital content there is always a risk of losing access to it. I agree the company should be straightforward and very honest about what status the game is though. Both are true.

I personally really love Palia. I think people should give it a chance, because yes it's free and there's no paywall to content aside from cosmetics, and it has a nice chill atmosphere and a lot of promise. But like, I want people to try it with the knowledge it is in beta, so they can make the informed decision to play the game and run into bugs and understand it's in beta; when people play a game uninformed, they get super angry and frustrated at the bugs and you see that a lot in the quest-help/gameplay-help because they were misled into thinking it's a full game If people know it's a beta game and know they would HATE the bugs, then they can choose to sit and wait and play when it's more functional and avoid all that frustation

It is a shady business practice but then again, S6 still advertises Palia as an inclusive and accessible game.

Anthem was a great game. You were a Javelin pilot (power armor). You ran around, doing missions, fighting world bosses, or just free-roaming the world. But yeah, they called it quits, and sent a remote-wipe as an "update" and the next day, software completely gone without a trace.

However you feel about Nintendo, it was S6, not them, who scrubbed off the label. If Nintendo only wants to sell new cars, S6 isn't in the clear for rolling back the mileage on a used one ala Ferris Bueller just to put it in the dealership. Not a perfect analogy, but you get the point. This is only supported by the fact that S6 hasn't put Early Access on the steam page. Nintendo didn't force them to do that, Steam didn't force them to do that, but they're misleading audiences again anyway.

And I really don't think anyone is going to stop buying EA and Bioware games. EA owns the Sports game market. Bioware makes great games.

yeah im really not into cosmetics as a whole. i did buy bc i would like to see palia grow, but its really unfortunate that its the base model for so many games now. in-game purchases, especially when the game already costs $60!

but also, shouldn't people be responsible to do research into things? the game has been available for pc players (if they wanted to) in closed beta since August. During that time, if people were really, truly interested in a game, wouldn't they do some form of research like computer specs to see if they could even play the game on their system? I mean, just typing in Palia into google and actually reading the screen, not even going into a website you can find that it "launched into open beta late 2023 with full release planned for 2024" wikipedia

S6 had the choice of removing the beta tag or waiting for it to go on the Nintendo store. S6 chose to remove the tag. Zero blame goes to Nintendo.

yeah. its a misleading thing to do to scrub 'beta' off the title screen but at the end of the day, doing your own research before mindlessly spending money or supporting things is the best power you have as a consumer, aside from your money.

Steam page shows the specs. And you obviously don't need to worry about specs on a console. Players that see it on the store front have no reason to need to do outside research. You shouldn't have to do outside research on a game, the storefront should be truthful.

There is zero excuse to lie by omission on the storefront.

Steam got successful by doing the research for the buyer and giving a reasonable refund policy. Their minimum quality standards may not be what we want but they are better than what came before.

The game is literally free, they don’t push you to pay them and you can do everything in the game without paying, there’s no reason to complain

@worn atlas It could be, but I still run an Empyrion: Galactic Survival server with around 100 active players, two Ark servers and a Rust server, each accounts for an average of 150-200 players.
It is a "me" problem that I do not find any redeming qualities in Valheim? Maybe, but I'm also very close friends with a couple Heathen and Asatru trods who also want nothing to do with it. But hey, if you like it, you like it. I don't have a problem with that. I just do not.

i was interested in Dreamlight Valley when it was first announced. thought it was amazing idea. Disney characters and animal crossing. I watched the trailer, then i looked for people who downloaded the game and tried it out. One reviewer said for the switch players to wait and see how well the game performed on the switch, so taking their word, i waited. and waited. the switch version by what i saw crashed multiple times to the point some people said that it was unplayable especially if you were decorating. Had i just blindly bought the game, i would have been out the 70 dollars for "early access".
