Give how reasonably accurate Google Translate is, I wonder how long it will be until auto-translation in-game becomes the norm.

Mind you, I'm also surprised that game with voice chat built-in don't include at least a basic voice morpher option. Especially the ones with non-human races.

I realize they are in beta. I just hope they take Inclusitivy and accessibility seriously for future updates. 🙂 There has been some bad press for other game developers out there not considering these options and alienating a whole community of gamers.

@drowsy prairie I'm already multi-lingual. I speak American English, British English, Canadian English, and Australian English. That's more than enough for me. LOL
Actually, I speak a smattering of other languages, but that's not the point... I just don't know how much I'd trust an in-game language translator to get things right. I'm pretty sure there will be a number of "What do you mean, 'up my keister'?" when someone's trying to tell someone that there's a load of Palium in the upper mine shaft.

@drowsy prairie Yep, that there are, indeed, all with varying degrees of accuracy. We're still quite a long ways from a Star Trek styled "universal translator", as human language is vastly more complex than even quantum physics, and follows even fewer rules, especially in modern times, where the advent of the internet, combined with pure human laziness, have eroded language and syntax to the point that it's really just becoming "noise".

I have played a tablet game for over 10 years and they have always had a translate button. While I sometimes can’t quite figure out what the other person is saying, most of the time it works extremely well.

@weary void Like I said, they're kind of close, just not quite right. Really depends on what is being trasnlated to and from.. some languages are simply easier to translate than others. American English is one of the worst, because there is so much slang, so much common vulgar vernacular, and so many colloquialisms and idioms we use that just don't translate well. Likewise, going from Asiatic languages to English, well, if you've ever seen Engrish.com you know exactly how translations can fail badly. That's all I've to say there. Not against it, not excited about it, not a feature I would use.

Which was great! because I accidentally made my character on the Chinese server first and I can read all of 0 Chinese characters it worked way better than I expected even with the slang, enough that I was able to figure out what everyone was talking about pretty easily with just knowing how people tend to shorthand in MMOs

oops.. I couldn't do that, as I have all of China Layer 2 blocked on my router. A few other countries as well - Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, Cuba, Pakistan, India, Iraq... pretty much anywhere with a reputation for cybercrime, hostility or communism.

This translator seems to do any language. While the in game item names sometimes don’t translate too well I can usually figure out what they need.

technically I think the server is hosted in Taiwan, but they also had a Japanese server so it was more for the language than time zone (which is why I said Chinese, it was the main language on that server)

I think the game is Chinese. It’s a n old little farm game called Family Farm Seaside. It’s cute. It can also be expensive. Most of it requires in game currency. I stopped throwing money at it.

@clever cove Yep, that's why they get so few titles. It's a huge hassle for developers, so a lot of them just say no, or partner with Sony or Microsoft instead.

As for updating and patching... there are such better methods that could be utilized. How about a no-down-time patching? It's actually quite doable, as long as you've a powerful enough host or a pair of hosts. You simply virtualize the server, then clone it and shut down the clone. Run one host, tinker, fiddle and patch on the clone. When it's update time, you switch the clone with the Live, no one notices unless they're trying to log in at that very exact second, in which case, if it's coded well, it merely creates a short delay that is mistaken for lag, and logs in to the clone, updated/patched server and people start playing with the new stuff, while the original is then patched.

Probably out of the price-range of a small indi, but a mid-sized studio shouldn't have any major problems coughing up a little extra to deliver a seemingly perpetual service.

But you have to update the clients as well, which you don't have any control over. That's the more difficult part

That's true, but it's also not hard to, when making that cutover, to send a broadcast announcement: "Server changover in 10 Minutes, please log out and back in to update your client"

Which results in the exact same amount of downtime, as people have to download and install the update before playing anyways

High availability is a great thing. It's just isn't worth it for games. People will survive a few hours of downtime each month, especially those who wouldn't be playing at the time anyways

Or you stream-patch on the fly, but that's a bit harder if the updates are large and will likely produce quite a bit of lag as well, unless that is services by a completely separate source, in which case, it would only lag the players for the duration, though things like a Torrent-style loader would lessen that impact. I'm a Network Admin, and I admin things like Police, Fire and EMT services for 129 cities across the country, and I've implemented very similar systems to keep things like 9-1-1 services operating. Nothing worse than calling in to 9-1-1 and they can't route to your location because their CIS/CAD is down, or worse, out-of-date, and the route they're trying to send an ambulance or firetruck goes over a section of road that is currently missing due to construction.

There are some out there, indeed. However, even the biggest ones have regular, scheduled maintenance times and they also take everything down for major updates. Heck, EvE Online still has a daily restart as far as i know, even after like 20 years or whatever haha!

Plus, something a lot people don't realize... when we say "server" we're seldom talking about a single machine. These are usually server farms with a front-end load-balancer, to route new incoming connections to different parts of the farm based on the load on each of those machines. Something as simple as Call of Duty may be running as many as 20 or 30 actual game servers at any one time.

I think I just discovered a detailed settings menu in the switch version (probably normal on PC).

I'm playing in a fish-eye lense at the moment, but it's soo much better. certain graphical settings say they need a program restart, and I did, but I didn't notice any changes (or performance drops). I'm trying to see if full foliage is possible right now.

For me, what helps is doing literally nothing (not holding a chapaa, not walking, just standing there doing nothing) for the last 10-15 seconds of the game, Then, once the results screen shows up, I press nothing but the close button (I think B), has a ca 50/50 chance of working.

Crazy that I grew up on myself and keyboard back but now refuse to use them even for first person shooter games. I use my Xbox controller on my pc, only time I have an issue is when I use it...and the Chappa hunt ends...I have to use my mouse to exit the screen. they did say in the patch notes that the seeds will still be available after the event. the patch notes used to list the seeds as being available at the general store specifically but they removed that part (likely because it's not currently true) and it also originally listed soy sauce as being available at the general store, so I'm going to assume that was removed for the same reason

@modern rock If I had to hasten a guess, I would say that each node, when absent, has a probablity of respawns as Small, Medium, or Large, as well as a type of spawn (rock, regional ore, regional special ore, or not this time). There may be a cap on the number of each, to prevent things like Everything Spawned as Small Rock or Everything Spawned Palium

Might be 70% Rock, 20% Ore, 10% Special Ore.
Since we only really have 2 areas, it's hard to speculate too much, but that at least seems the most logical, workable method.

3. Remove "Block of Ice" from the freezer

5. Transform that "Block of Ice" into the selected object, which then slowly melts over the course of the next in-game day.

A recent update increased the number of buildings you can have on one lot up to 30, which I have, but you are still limited to 15 buildings in a single construction. To reach the new cap on building, you HAVE to use two Harvest houses so...

If it were necessary for a lighthouse to message a ship, and lines of communication could not be opened, the lighthouse operators can singal in Morse Code by operating the lamp shutters.

Oh, if you're looking for Easy Find mode, just crank your graphics settings down. It hides most of the grass and decos, and you can spot a mite on a flea jumping off a chaapa from a quarter mile. Just leave your render distance cranked up.

That's the problem. You rely on chance to get a starred version. If you are unlucky you might need time to farm extra tickets, time you might not have if this gets fixed the day before maji market ends.
