Hmm I think the new kitchen clutter recipes from Reth aren't properly tagged as furniture yet.
yeah they definitely learned the contrast lesson from the inventory counts and are slowly applying throughout the game. Love that
So far I haven't noticed the chat flash on PC but the instances I've been in are pretty quiet.
i didn't notice it until someone in chat asked and it seems to be intermittent
I'm on switch and the chat started flickering there too so it's not limited to pc
Anyone else who plays with controller noticed rumble disappearing?
Like I have rumble at max but it's not rumbling during fishing anymore
Tbh I also think that's needed
I had that happen prior to any update tho so it might be rare instead of new
Chats been flashing for weeks now for me, on switch at least
Kinda sad that we'd have to be looking in details to catch the progress imo.
I appreciate that it's being worked on gradually and it seems organically, but the avoidance from talking about the elephant in the room has me miffed.
Ahhh I see the chat flash now since I went to the bay.
Chat has been horrendous since using a third-party chat. Almost guarantee they went with Vivox.
Yeah they did. Issues discussion figured that out when it was replacing things with emojis early on and the havoc it was causing.
I was getting this the last few days before patch. Can't speak to it right now, unable to log in.
I think if I close and reopen chat, it stopped the flash. (PC)
I-- holy moly speaking of things moving in the right direction??? Ashe just did this.
When we were posting in general last week and another person named Mystic asked if a mod or someone from S6 could pin it for people—obviously no guarantees right—but we brought it to her attention.
Y'all, people in general chat wanted it pinned, and someone from S6 pinned it. You are all not alone anymore in this and we're finally seeing some serious displays of good faith across the table. Let's keep things going.
Oh they put a thing behind 'What should I learn to make?' too
I’ve never seen the text before, I’ve seen the thought bubbles with new ideas but thought that was it
Oh maybe 😮 I thought it might've been there but it's been a while since I crafted furniture.
The kitchen clutter is pretty inexpensive to craft so that's really nice!!
I've also heard the ore compass has been changed so the only iron it picks up is the big nodes (so it primarily shows palium)- hopefully that's something that can help people distinguish nodes a bit?
Gosh I hope so, I never bothered with the ore compass after finding out it highlights every ore deposit.
starting to ponder on a crowdsourced accessibility feature/fix list that should be in patch notes each time to surface somewhere(dunno where) to try to nudge them in a way that's both criticism of skirting the issue and acknowledgement of their progress
Has anyone noted about color blindness accessibility? My partner has a hard time distinguishing harvest tomatoes and growing tomatoes. He also has an issue with pallium vs reg stone. Also maybe an adjustable UI feature for switch and PC
More voices and perspectives never hurt.
sad that the fov bug wasnt fixed. not being able to move the camera close to my char is annoying me so much
I didn’t know this was broken! I wonder if that’s what’s giving me motion sickness now 🤔
its very obvious but i dont think its affecting everyone. i sent in a bug report or two about it already
Is that form still up and running? Just joined the discord lol
which form? the official feedback form (at palia.info/feedback ) is always running, and the community accessibility form (from marcy's post in the pinned comment) is still open here: https://forms.gle/ttxAFhdA4a79fLdm6 until <t:1709971140:F>
welcome to the discord!
Yes the one from Marcys post, thank you!
yeah of course, thank you for being willing to fill it out!
No worries!
Marcy's and the Shepp's survey will be running till 8th of march!
Specifically until 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time on March 8th (which is the 9th for a lot of other timezones); the timestamp in Admiralsky's post should reflect the survey close date/time in your local time zone.
I don't really know if this is an accessibility thing, but I have lots of trouble seeing in the dark.
I find the nights too dark? Even with the brightness fully on, I still cannot see anything when it's night in Palia. Am I the only one?
its kind of half and half. some cant see at night while others find the night too bright. im in the camp of night is too bright and strains my eyes (day and afternoon are the worse offenders of this)
is cross server fixed or still bugged where we can't join another countries server
Oh that is interesting. Has that been reported yet?
But no fix for the FOV 😩😩😩
I've reported it (I'm on the night is too dark side of the problem as well, but the divide is why I want them to just add sliders), but more reports to their feedback forms about the problem helps them see that a lot of people care about the problem. So if you have the spoons to submit something, even if others have already submitted it, I'd recommend it
Thank you very much! Sliders would be very nice.
I'll go send some things in 🙂
Improving cross region travelling is mentioned in the patch notes in the bug fixes. So it seems worth giving it a try.
Is there anyway to friend/ msg people on a different server that you aren't already friends with. I've accidentally fast traveled to a different area after saying omw to people gathering for materials and end up making them wait for nothing
I don't think so, but you can look up their name under manage friends
So far I'm liking how New Mining feels. And the "I have been tapped so please tap me" glow on Palium is more like a shimmer, and don't feel particularly flash-y; certainly less flashy than the act of mining itself.
I'm actually able to find pallium during the day now it's nice.
Yeah! It's wild--I've found at least four different nodes. I wonder if they quietly adjusted spawn rates at all, or if this is really just how it goes when the node persists after someone has hit it and you're not fighting your way back and forth across the map to try to get to a point before folks hit it. Either way, definitely feels improved.
If anyone does have issues with the expiration-glow on nodes and other forageables, please sing out! So far it seems like they did not create a new accessibility problem while trying to solve something else, which is a nice step in the right direction, but different folks experiencing things differently and its important to capture that! ❤️
If anyone hasn't seen it it's the same kind of shimmer that foragables like the flowers have.
Hot take: I low-key hope they'll implement some kind of "Palium Quarry" some time in the future. You know, like how there's already a Flow trees grove.
It would be nice if we got a little mine on our housing plot even if it was only a few nodes a day. And maybe little flow trees too?
It's just really painful to see it disappear in front of your eyes before you've been able to hit it isn't it? 😢
I was like 'YES finally a palium i can see' and then poof, gone 😂
I haven't encountered that yet myself, but I've had the same experience with a Dari clove. It hurts, but it (at least for me) doesn't hurt nearly as bad as struggling all over, seeing nothing, and giving up on Pal entirely due to social toxicity.
I definitely am seeing (and hitting) a lot more now!
Yes definitely!
May I ask something personal?
Well I'll just ask ans then you decide whether you can answer or not.
I am not colour blind. I do have glasses (-4, near sighted). But why am I unable to see the palium unless I really stand in front of it and take a good look?
Was it just badly made? What makes you unable to see it? Because as far as I know i am perfectly able to see colour so I'm confused
Could be a simple matter of graphics settings, tbh. Or the way the game tends to finalise any rendering on anything only when you get close enough to the object, mining nodes included.
It might be because of the effects on the node texture. The shiny effect will make it take a teeny bit longer for it to render than iron or stone.
I have a hard gime seeing iron as well unless they're really big
I think folks are a little more willing to call out as well because they don't have to stand there and wait
As for your question--I am also nearsighted without colorblindness; I do wish the ores would be a bit brighter/contrasting in color--it can be difficult to differentiate at times
I mistake iron for stone a lot too unless it's the big nodes.
But since I generally clear all the nodes I come across so pallium has a chance to spawn it's not a huge deal.
Same--is rock? I hit.
Ngl: I've been developing the habit of using the camera mode as my personal binoculars. So I can zoom in on distant nodes and see if they really are just stone, or if other rendering details may pop up.
I have 20/20 vision and i still have a hard time seeing what the nodes are. (Well except for a muscle/ligament or something that's a bit wonky, so I sometimes see double when I'm tired🤣)
That's actually a really good tip.
(Signed: A non-colourblind + Severely astigmatic Palian
)
Excuse me- camera mode? Where is that? Why did I not know it exists?
But yeah must be a problem with rhe color contrast and the shininess.
I hope they fix it cause it triggers migraines
On PC the camera mode is K. On a switch I'm not sure.
What @pastel mica said.
I'm a PC player too, so Idk where that option might be on that platform.
K for Kamera! On controller it's Right-Bumper to open the social menu then you'll see what button they have assigned to camera.
Okay I'm not an established gamer lol it's becoming obvious ... What is a right bumper? 🙃
So there's the Right Trigger button on the controller. Above that is a shoulder button also known as right-bumper.
Thank you!
I think on Switch the bumper is the R button and the trigger is the ZR button. And no worries! I'm using a Playstation 3 controller on my computer to play, but the buttons in the PC version are based on XBox controller mapping, so I have to keep a diagram handy to remember that Triangle = Y, Circle = B, X (I think they call it Cross) = A and Square = X.
It would be nice for them to add the option to let you pick the controller type so it shows the appropriate buttons. But I know that's not always a common option.
I want that feature in SO many games
I would love that!
in DMC5 I had to install a mod to have it show PS buttons instead of xbox cause I could never keep it straight x_x;;
still waiting for S6 to add a mini map and improve the font size on the switch, especially the switch lite bc that’s all i have and it’s so difficult to read text on the chat, NPC dialogue, etc… i did complete the survey however, so hopefully they’ll consider it
A font slider would be nice!
Also, I'd like to be able to add pins (think Zelda). Because I have adhd and I literally cannot remember where anything is, what I need etc. I gets a bit frustrating. This would be nice to go along with a mini map
i think you can add pins in the big map! idk about multiple pins at once though
Yeah unfortunately it's just one and it disappears as soon as you travel between maps
Yes! But it'd be nice to have pins in different colours that don't disappear when you get to that location. But maybe not idk
ooooo i getchu
As a Warframe player, I know exactly what you'd like to see added, and I would totally like to see that implemented too.
(For context: thee are called "Loc-Pin" https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Loc-Pin )
Best part of it is: if you enter the area with a Loc-Pin left by another player, and you are in the same squad, you both can see the marked locations. 👀
Yes! Those would be so useful
I think that palia also lets you see your party's pins? but there's no way to decide if your pin is shown to the party or not, which is very frustrating because sometimes you/your party member pins things for personal quests and it gets distracting. there's also no differentiation between which one is your pin vs. a party member's pin and which party member iirc. similarly, you can only share to your party, can't share to community members or the map at large, which would be a nice feature also. just overall, a better pin system would be so so appreciated
That could indeed be a point of improvement
I have a question and it's technically not about accessibility but I feel like y'all would be nicer about it and more understanding.
So i have autism and I don't really understand social rules that well.
Since the new update, I was under the impression that everyone just chops Palium now without waiting on each other since it doesn't immediately disappear.
But earlier someone called out for palium and I went and chopped it and they got mad at me?
Could someone maybe explain palium etiquette? Because I don't think I'm fully understanding it and I don't want people getting mad at me.
Sorry if this is not allowed here.
ure fine! I think palium etiquette's kind of in a weird place rn since the change is so new
As before, do whatever you want. After you mine a node, it stays for everyone else for 3 minutes. Starting that 3 minute timer as soon as possible helps everyone but some people don't get that.
Oh okay thank you!
I was a bit confused 😊
If they really want that palium, they'll get there in less than 3 minutes.
Yeah that's what I thought. But then she told people to not bother coming anymore, so i thought I might've not understood the rules as well
Sounds like they don't understand the new palium harvesting mechanics, which is another common problem. Just do your own thing and realize no matter what you do, someone will probably be unnecessarily upset.
I'll try to tell myself that. Thanks for helping 🙂
there's no actual etiquette and it's their fault for assuming you'd understand theirs
I'm in agreement w/ there being no actual etiquette. there's enough newbies in the game that folks really should not be jumping at people immediately even w/o these new changes
Definitely just people trying to tell others how to play the game while not knowing their circumstances. Best to just do your thing and report anyone that gets too aggressive over it.
Thanks y'all. Makes me feel a lot better! I'll just play however I want to while still being polite. Y'all are very nice, thanks 🙂
yeah, that does sound a lot like they just don't understand the new way palium works and thought others couldn't get it. I think the 3 minute timer is good enough for most people to get to a palium node if they're interested in it, so there's no shame in hitting it right away.
Also where am I supposed to aim a flare at? I kinda aim it at the floor but I'm not sure that's visible for others?
I find them awkward to aim since you can't really shoot straight up over what you are marking :S
ah, one thing to note since there was a discussion on this yesterday. when announcing that the 3min started, "pal broke" is, while correct, sometimes taken as an accusation. "pal timer started" or something like that is a bit gentler sounding, and has been used prev for forageables too, so it's consistent. not a super big deal, but yea
If you aim your flare at the ground, it'll shoot straight up from that spot. That's what I do when I need to flare something in a weird spot 😊
Ohhhhh I did not know that.
Oh okay will say that then !
I've been trying to set a flare, say "pal at [location], [color of flare] flare" and then harvest it
Offtopic entirely but just had the funniest interaction. Hope u all get to know the joy of having a loud hispanophone palian come into ur house unprompted and call it a mess lmaoooo /posi
It's true that a lot of folks haven't read the patch notes and don't understand how the nodes have changed; I had a conversation in chat with someone the other day explaining the changes.
which is a totally fair thing- a lot of people don't read the patch notes, and they're kind of hard to get to from in game
From my own experience with anxiety I know it’s hard to ignore jerks in chat getting mad for no reason. Just remember that those people aren’t worth your time if they’d rather knee jerk reaction than have a dialogue.
Even if you don’t read the patch notes, it takes less than a second to see that the node is still there for you after someone gets it.
Yeah the anxiety is what makes it difficult to ignore it. It always makes me feel so bad about myself and well ... anxious.
But that's probably something I should work on instead of hoping no one will ever get mad
It’s definitely not your fault. And it’s ok to have these feelings. You’ll work through them
so with all these fixes can us with hand disabilities etc do the last temple or have we all once again been overlooked?
Which one? I didn't think the last temple was released yet
The last temple was the temple of gales.
They fixed some of the progression blocking design but nothing to do with accessibility.
yup just went over to temple of gales and nothing has changed, still discriminating against us with disabilities
So I found a grove last night. I called it out, flared, and went to look for other ft around the area. While I looked, 2 ppl chopped the grove and ran away before anyone arrived.
Everyone was so mad and thought it was my fault at first. I'm nauseous just retelling the story! Anxiety through the roof and I solo'd for the rest of my session avoiding groves altogether.
All that to say that you are not alone and it certainly doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. 🫂
All that to
Oh mb, by the time I joined all 3 were available. Sorry for misunderstanding and unfortunately I don't find it more accessible at all 🥺
@sand tide
So still no way of doing Temple of Gales, its impossible like i have said many times for us with mobility issues to do this. Why would you make something so essential to game play impossible to do. Like i have said so many times you are discriminating against so many people with disabilities, This is so wrong and unfair, Its like you dont even listen to feedback and dont care about us at all.
And to add insult to injury, we can't unpin the quests permanently so they're there mocking me every day. It's actually infuriating
this is very true, guess i will try again next month, wont hold my breath though,
Yeah, I should've clarified it's fair to not read patch notes, not fair to be a jerk.
Agree that anxiety makes it hard to ignore people, that's why I tend to block people who "call out" others, even if I'm not involved with the specific interaction because it makes me very uncomfortable.
It does, but also: in Palia (atm) you can only place one pin down at the time. Not to mention, it'll go POOF! the moment the player either crashes or leave the server on their own (or simply leaves the party).
The "Loc-Pin" in WF can be placed in several spots simultaneously (you can even give them different colours to tell them apart), I think the max is five.
IIRC it should also be still visible to other players even if you have to step away/your connection crashes. Unless that's just the nth (convenient, in this case) bug in the game; there's a reason Warframe is affectionately dubbed "Bugframe", after all.
Oh, I wasn't replying to you, specifically. Totally agree, though!
I had almost the same problem. Someone called it out and i waited till everyone (no one else was there so i was already confused) was there and it disappeared bc it was the timer already started. I do find the change a bit confusing but i will just chop it the next time
Palium (as well as all other nodes you can mine) now behaves kind of like the forage items.
After you mined and collected it, you may have noticed some kind of white ghost shape instead of the node. That shape means that the node is still there for the other players, but only for a limited time. After that time is up, the node will despawn (disappear) for everyone, even for those who haven't mined it yet.
On the other hand, if no one chop the node, it should stay up with no despawn (like all nodes did before this tweak).
This is why some players call out for Palium and then prefer to wait for other players to gather around before hitting the node, so that everyone can collect the ores.
(Personally, I would do so if there were two or more nodes nearby. Calling out only one single Palium and then having to wait for whoever feels like a waste of time to me, because it's not uncommon to be forced to wait even up to 10 IRL minutes.
)
ohh i'm glad i saw this! i'm just new to playing so i'll keep this in mind once i'm able to do this
No problem!
Just as a side note: I wrote that mining nodes behave "kid of like forage items" because there's a small difference.
While the nodes won't despawn unless someone chops them and collects the ores, the forage items will also despawn on their own after a while. This goes for all kind of forage, from the most common to the rarest, although they have different timers according to what kind they are between common, uncommon, rare and epic/legendary.
Im sorry you went through that. I would've been extremely anxious, too.
It wasn't your fault, though. I hope the thought of that can help you a bit 🙂
Okay! Thank you.
Ill try to look whether others are around or not. If they're around, I'll wait. If not, I'll chop.
I think that's the best way?
Thank you! Your original post let me know I wasn't alone and I wanted to return the favor
And you're right, neither of us did anything wrong and our feelings are valid. But sometimes I need a reminder from someone who really understands. Sending hugs 🫂 and thanks again!
guys i have my first day at my job (kinda... its basically a mock job to help me find accessible jobs but they do pay me) today aaaaaaaa!!!
It's good that they pay you. Unpaid internship type things shouldn't be legal. 😐
Okies! And tbh? There's no written rule that says that you must call something out and wait for others to find it.
Like, if you have the time and already know you don't mind waiting, then by all means go ahead.
If you don't have the time to wait, you can first call the goods out, while warning the others that "it's been already picked", then pick it up and leave, so they all know that either they move their bums, or they can kiss that item goodbye (momentarily; a despawn only means that it's going to respawn in a different area). You may also want to leave a flare up (if you have any), especially now that their timer has been increased up to 3 whole IRL minutes.
And if you don't have the energy to even call something out... Then you simply don't do the thing and pick the item up anyway (you might still want to set up a flare, just in case).
Since the change I don't tend to call pallium unless there are several clustered together.
I like the new system, and I tend to flare for any med/large pal, but oh man the increase in how often I'm flaring means I keep accidentally shooting sernuks with flares and then just... leaving the map entirely out of shame. no one come this way sorry there's nothing here... goodbye...
Also that trick about shooting a flare at the ground to get it to go straight up is genius. I hope they don't change that.
I don't use flares that often (most of the times someone else already got that covered), but boy do I feel you.
"I just shot a regular Chapaa, why did it scamper away completely unscat-oh, wait."
_>; not me accidentally scaring the magic deer and chappa with flares several times
Right?
Idk what's worse: spooking one of the rarest critter out, or knowing that everyone in range can see your glowing "epic fail" up in the sky for 3 minutes.
we need an option to make the font bigger and/or a dyslexia friendly font!
saaame
Pardon my ignorance I don't know a lot about dyslexia friendly fonts - does that mean just the type of font you use makes it easier for some people with dyslexia to read correctly?
yes - there are fonts with specific kerning, bottom weighting, or just better differentiated letters that help with dyslexia. Haven't vetted the info but this runs through some of the principles and example fonts https://www.weareteachers.com/best-fonts-for-dyslexia/
Does anyone else sometimes use flares until they get any color but blue? I usually have a harder time noticing blue flares vs orange or green, so I tend to prefer those when flaring things so it's easier for people to see especially if it's out in the open.
I do wish we could choose a particular flare color when we craft them that'd be nice.
Me too!
Agreed. I had a theory for a while that it automatically chose the color that would contrast the most with the sky based on the time of day, but that ended up not being true lol
This is definitely something that could be dropped in !feedback
(And of course the "code" to automatically link the feedback page doesn't work if there's anything before/after that.
)

I also think it might be a nice option to let us choose what flare color we see in settings- that way if one person flares something in blue because it's their favorite color, it could still show up as a different color (like orange) for someone who needs more contrast- and people can choose colors that work with their colorblindness if they have it
... I've just realised that this could also open the road to plenty more colours. Red flares, hot pink flares, purple flares, yellow flares, white flares...
P u r p l e 👁️👄👁️
I see what you did there and I love it
problem would be when there's multiple flares on the map and people start differentiating them in chat by color. "dari at green flare, pal at orange flare" is gonna be a bit hard to parse if everyone's green is a different color
That's true, I feel like if we could turn on flares as something that also creates a map marker (in settings so you don't have to have that pop up if you don't want to), that could be helpful because people could say "clove flared at outskirts", but yeah people do communicate a lot by color which makes it tricky- maybe setting our own color in settings wouldn't work
I think it'd be a lot more helpful if we could customize the compass navigation system a bit more and have flares show up on there, for the folks whose visual settings make the flares hard to see too. custom map icons that r in the flare colors (so if u can't see the colors u can still see icons), and being able to click on map icons like flares+npcs and put them on the compass.
I try not to even keep a blue flare on the times I do flare since so many ppl have trouble distinguishing it from the sky
This reminded me of another Warframe thing: when a player marks a resource on the terrain with the waypoint option (instead of marking the generic position), the marker automatically says what the thing is on the UI of everyone in range. It works also on all sort of moving "enemies".
Imagine being able to add a similar mark to anything in Palia (and that mark is visible also to everyone within X metres): "Flow Tree - [insert distance changing as you move closer and closer]"
Heck, it would be also very handy to track the movements of beasties like a "Disco Bambi".
(I know it would probably annihilate the purpose of flares altogether, and that devs went maybe for the flare option because it was the easiest/quickest to come up with. 😅 )
I mean, it doesn't need to be a new system next to flares. if they just adjust how the flare and map/compass system works, it should do the same thing
Idk if this may also count as an accessibility feature of sort, TIL that we can zoom in/out + rotate the preview of the furniture we want to recolour from the modification bench.
https://youtu.be/ujUYPbNDsyM
Why was I not informed that we can zoom in/out + rotate the items we'd like to recolour? 🤯
btw can we please see the right colors in the modification bench, i know the vibe of each colorisation but i would love to see what they actually look like before dying them and putting them in my parcel T T
I’m have autism spectrum
Not palia, but relevant:
Anyone here have joint issues, particularly wrist and fingers, that have found a good mouse?
Right now i use a standart cheap one, and my wrist and fingers are in so much pain 🤣 any tips would be greatly appreciated 🙌
Have you tried trackballs? They take a bit to get used to, but lots of people like them. Something like the Logitech M575
I find physio hand/wrist exercises help a lot. A stress ball also made a difference too cause it provides some resistance. And ice/heat if it starts to get sore.
As far as mice... there are some ergonomic mice and also vertical ones. The one in the picture is a Logitech lift..but there are knock off ones too that are cheaper.
Also something to think about:
Lots of writers with wrist pain find that learning to write primarily with your shoulders and elbows helps a lot. It's weird at first, but for me personally, that always seemed a lot more natural. Same can be done with a mouse, which means you would move your wrist a lot less
@lost obsidian I used to borrow my husbands, but my hypermobility makes them just as bad as the regular mouse🤷🏼♀️ same goes with shoulders and elbows, I had to stop using them while writing and being on the computer 😅 I'm a difficult one🤷🏼♀️😅
Thanks for the tip, I've been looking at the vertical ones, and tbh I really want to try them out!
Fysio has made my wrists worse, that and yoga. All the stretching and mobility exercises, turns out is bad for hypermobility 😅 I do have finger trainers, and work on strengthening my wrists tho, an I have a hope that'll help
I see hehe. Verticals might be a good idea then. Logitech's options are pretty good, but they are definitely on the more expensive side
If you have wrist pain, a vertical mouse may do wonders.
I used one for months, before it ultimately "unalived" and went back to regular mouse. I still rest my hand like I used to do with the vertical mouse.
Oh gosh yeah hypermobility can be tough to deal with. D:
Amazon has some cheaper brands of vertical mice it looks like. $30 CAD is about... $22 USD right now?
I think I'll try that! Just need to wait for some mola 😅
I'll have to check Amazon then, thanks! Only thing with Amazon is the shipping costs to Norway.. they don't like us very much 🤣
Can always check the brands online stores themselves after you get names to see if it's any cheaper that way. They might have cheaper shipping options.
You could look at the german site (amazon.de). They should have a lot of inventory that ships from within the EU. Otherwise, your best bet is probably a national tech related webshop. I'm sure Norway has a few that you can pick from
Absolutely! I've found the Logitech one for about 80 💶 😬
Im going look up dupes now👌
You might be able to find the Lift a bit cheaper. It's also a bit smaller than the MX Vertical, which you might even prefer, but that's hard to guess
Like i have large hands (size 10 gloves), and yet i'm perfectly fine with something like a G305 in terms of size
Mine was a Trust and cost me definitely less than 80 (euros)..?
Hopefully the message won't be nuked, anyways...
https://www.amazon.com/Trust-Gaming-Vertical-Ergonomic-Buttons/dp/B07JLMK5T3
This is the mouse I was talking about. I think it was also on sale back when I got mine.
I just checked, and the euro to nok is better now then last time i looked, so about 69 eur, a tad bit better 🤣
Thank you heaps! I'll check it out!
Oh my gosh I didn't even think of that! I'm a size 7 gloves 😅 oh gosh, my spoons are getting worked today 😅
love to see this chat so active again!!
No worries hehe! Then yeah, you'll almost certainly want to avoid the larger ones. Something similar in size to the Lift would be what i would get based on all this
I'm not sure how grip styles translate to vertical mice, so going with something "average" should be a good start
The Trust above seems a little taller, but that might just be fine. I do like the business peripherals from Logitech a lot though, my users barely had any problems with them
I wish it were possible to do like a short term rental on peripherals to test if they'll work for you size-wise and positionally, etc. before committing to the investment. I frequently have wrist-hand-joint pain and I've read that the vertical mice are better for that, but I don't want to spend the money on something that I may not be able to wrap my brain around using or might be a bad/worse fit for my hand.
Are there any local stores you could get a an chance to look at one in person? :|a
Thank you so very much for all your help!!
I think I'm going to check out our local electronic stores and see what they might have in stock so I can possibly try them out! 🙌
Best autism spectrum experience on game?
My arms hurt playing my handhold system
Best thing help that?
I’m need help please
Do you find that you grip your switch really tight when you are playing?
Yes
Can you dock your system and use a controller so you can adjust your positioning?
Or get the Nintendo switch split pads if you're using switch
I have a tablet stand that I sometimes use for playing. It just grips around the screen and then it will hold the weight of the system for me, which is nice for my arthritis 🙂
I’m need help reading words this game read aloud
I find if I lay on my stomach and play with the switch on my bed or couch or whatever it's less muscle use for my arms and hands
A silicone case for the switch might help too if you prefer playing handheld. Cause then you are gripping something softer at least.
That's a good idea I hadn't thought about that
I’m need suggestions please
I have a little 3d printed stand that's similar too so I can charge the switch and just use my pro controller at the same time.
I am pretty much stuck with playing palia on my docked switch til they give us a slider scale for text bc I can't read it if it isn't on my tv.
Also helps because I haven't had my thoracic outlet syndrome surgery yet so I lose all sensation in my arms and hands playing my switch handheld cause how I have to angle myself. 😭
I really want to get a nice macro pad for casual games so that I can play one-handed or in a more comfy position. I agree with Blue though in that I wish I could try them out before buying since they're not terribly cheap. And I live in the boonies now so there's not really anywhere for me to test them in person unfortunately.
@hasty berry A lot of people are sharing personal opinions of things they do that might help you. It may not directly be an answer to you, but all of these options may help you find something that works.

I am here, but at work. I don't have any more suggestions that may help sadly
Katie, have you tried putting a pillow in your lap while you play? Then you can rest your arms on the pillow
Katie, There are also pillow-like stuffed animals that can be squished into place to give support like a pillow, but may work better for you.
What it call?
There are a few different brands you can look at, and usually find them on Amazon. Here are a few of them:

Yes! Those can work too 🙂

You can also find some like it at Kroger or Publix grocery store around holidays like Easter. If you get them right after Easter, you can get them on sale.
I don't think the Switch can do read aloud for Palia. 😦 On the PC version there may be screen-reader support, but I haven't tested it myself.

If you can zoom, that help?
Hi! Sorry to bug you. I was trying to look for help with Katie’s issues and came across Switch’s zoom feature. You might already be aware of it but I figured I’d call it to your attention since you mentioned text scaling issues.
Thanks! I use it sometimes but my brain doesn't always like to cooperate with it lol silly brain
brains do tend to be mean.
Great
There's a zoom feature on the Switch? Like, handheld?
Apparently so! Here's a screenshot of the instructions I found on google
Sadly it seems there aren't very good text-to-speech options for technology today 😦
Wow I had no idea! Kudos on the hardware for making it up
Sadly, I don't have suggestions for text to speech options.
But if I can leave my own tip for the pain, have you tried to take frequent breaks and do some quick stretching exercises for hands/wrists and shoulders, and relax your joints?
If you struggle to remember to take those breaks, you could set a timer, so it can go off every X minutes to remember it for you.
What that?
How?

Zoom make screen bigger. That help read?
something i just thought of is that when gardening & using the fertilizer, i find it extremely difficult to tell what spot im placing it in especially during in-game day time. a different color or indicator border would be SO helpful
kinda like in stardew where you have the option to turn on a red square that shows where your tools are going
This is true for me and I have average vision. I can’t imagine how hard it is seeing the indicator for someone with trouble seeing
you’re right, we need a better indicator
Yeah the current indicator for which square you are on is really light compared to the soil.
i submitted the suggestion in the feedback form, who knows if they’ll read it but i figured it might help
That reminds me--has anyone else here experienced a thing when watering your crops where:
A) the water-filling arc indicator is either missing entirely or off in a lower area of the screen
and/or
B) instead of the quick zoom into position over your shoulder for watering, it does this slow, ominous Stanley Kubrick horror-film zoom-in as you water?
I haven't been able to replicate it myself, but I've seen it happen to another fellow disabled Palian on her stream and it was both nauseating and unsettling.
yes!!! i’ve been having glitches and lag while watering too
it happens to me mostly after either planting new seeds and/or selling fully-grown plants; i haven’t figured out if it’s just a certain crop causing it but it’s really frustrating
I’m need sill suggest
Especially if you have anything on your computer that can record video clips of your game (or if it's happening to you on Switch, I think there's a way to pull video clips off of it to send to a PC), I'd recommend submitting a bug report about it.
I kind of want to experience B as a horror film fan rofl
yee i’ve been considering submitting one, I should go ahead and do so. And I am on the switch
I do too esp on switch. Then it decides where it wants to send the indicator all willy nilly so makes it even more difficult.
Folks here can share tools that help them play games and play Palia.
But some of these things are better to ask your doctor or therapist ❤️
It can definitely be a struggle, especially here in the USA. There are some free services here that might be able to help you, at least with anxiety and such. There are many listed, one could have what you need: https://palia.info/helpline-links
For real?
Anyone know?
Anyone busy?
I'm sorry, my day job has me very very busy today.
There are some live chat things in that link I shared. They were collected on that page by Palia but Palia does not control them.
I have to go now. Good luck!

None from me, already given by others
Oh man
Hey Kate! Good morning and to everyone here in the accessibilty channel! As one of our members mentioned, we aren't the right professionals to consult with regarding treatments. We recommend refraining from asking our community, as what may work for others may not work for you and could complicate matters. Please consult or contact the appropriate professionals so they can address your concerns and provide you with the right suggestions.
While everyone here wants to help, it's important to remember that Palia is primarily a game server and not the appropriate channel for seeking treatments and therapy.
You might want to explore the Mental Health Support Resources mentioned by one of our shepps here: https://palia.info/helpline-links
I’m so sorry
You don't have to be sorry, it's perfectly alright. I think some of us just want you to know that we just don't have many more suggestions and even if we did they might not work for you. We do understand.
No need to apologize, Kate! We hope you find the right Mental Health Support Resources for you. Please take care always, and to everyone reading this too.
You'll have to figure that out yourself, Kate. Autism is different for everyone. You'll have to figure out what works best for you. We can't really help you with that
Just try it out for a bit and then see what you struggle with. You can always ask questions about the game itself, like the rules for some things like I did. But we can't really tell you how to play. Try it out for a bit and then see what your questions are
Ok I'm sorry i might come off very mean.
But are you okay? Did you take any meds? You seem a bit out of it.
You might need to ask parents, roommate, friends ... For some help.
We can't really help you. Take care.
Ty
I did some research into Aprexia, it can cause some serious cognitive issues in various ways including not being able to comprehend text even if they can read it just fine. Is it like that for you, Kate? If one of us could explain in a voice chat what we are trying to say, would that help? Or are you okay as is?
Oh I'm sorry
Kate, is your main language English? Maybe if it's not, we could try in your native language as well? That might help some as well. For the voice chat as well.
Language barrier is not Kate's problem. At least not on the line of "speaking a different language".
👉 #♿│accessibility-discussions message
Yes please
I’m in English
I am at work now but after work I can try and give you a call on Discord if you are available.
Hard to call
I’m ok
No I understand. But if English is not your first language, it can be even harder if that makes sense? So that's why i suggested a voice message in her native language
I’m in USA
Apraxia can mean that a persons brain hears, and reads, and comprehend completely fine. But bringing cognitive into muscle i.e thought to speech or text can be problematic.
So while Katie probably understands everything we say and write, she can find it hard to put her thoughts into text. And might come off as confused.
Also in kids with apraxia you can tell them to go put their shoes on, and they will. But next time you ask them to put their shoes on, they might go brush their teeth. Not because they didn't understand, but because their body/muscles does something totally different than their brain tells them to do..
I'm not sure I managed to appropriately explain this, do to my own language barrier, but hopefully the meaning of what I'm trying to convey shows 😁
And Katie, I'm so sorry that we can't be more helpful! All of us really want to help you, but it's hard doing so over the internet, and especially when we don't have the proper education on your specific struggles ❤️
I’m will
Hard to communicate
I’m suggest with that
Everyone gets my text?
I have occasional apraxia due to trauma and yeah pretry much! Makes it impossible for me to respond in chat and so ppl get mad, thankfully I'm past caring about that
Wow
I’m crying
I hope my half assed explanation was somewhat ok? If not tell me, and I'll delete it ❤️ and I promise! I'll never get mad at any of you for not responding or being short etc!
Yes good
I think most of us here are a lot more patient as we've been dealing with people giving us a hard time for our disabilities for years. Or maybe not years, but it's still the same. Most people here probably know what it's like to not always fit in.
I can't speak for everyone, but I feel like that is probably mostly true
@wispy iron
Thank you Katie! ❤️
Your welcome
Im helping her trying to connect a wireless keyboard to her switch so she can type easier in Palia chat. That was one of her main problems!
Thanks for explaining x
If anyone has ever done that, feel free to give tips 🙂
Genius!! I'm so happy you could be of help! I'm useless with this😅
Youtube is a big help haha
Not sure if it'll work, but I'm trying. Not so tech savvy myself
I don't have a switch myself, but I looked it up and to connect a wireless keyboard you would need something called a "USB Bluetooth Dongle"
Yes i think i found one on her pictures! Let's hope itll work
What is that?
I think I know, isn't that a discord community with therapists who play games with clients?
Oh
I joined because I was hoping to get a chance to talk about my Social anxiety with someone and then I bailed because of social anxiety.
hahaha. That's the epitome innit?
It does sound quite interesting. Looked at thr price tho..
It's kind of a luxury in a way. If you can't handle opening up with people over video chat appointments or in some white room in front of a guy with a suit it's a great option. Unfortunately, options typically hit the pocket book.
Sorry people in suits?
Maybe
Your psychologists wear white suits? That's weird. I could never.
I go to mine in a regular house with regular clothing on. Sometimes wr even go on walks with her dog! ( It's an autism coach, though). Can't imagine being in such an uptight environment
That's all I've ever seen on my end.
I've got to step away for the evening but wanted to share again in case anyone needs it, there's a collection of resources and tools supporting different regions of the world here: https://palia.info/helpline-links
Take care everyone!
May i ask what country you're from? Im from Belgium. Interesting to see different things in different countries
I’m reminded on discord too
Thank you! But to be fair, I'm not on the spectrum and my parents don't believe in mental health, which was fun because I'm Schizo-affective. Good times lol. I was sent to mental health facilities given by the state, mostly seeing psychiatrists once every 3 months and a Therapist once a month in an office for 30 minutes.
Hero Journey Club on discord?
I don't usually share that, but eh. I've said to others here I am neurodivergent but not on the Spectrum so... I juist thought maybe I would share what that means.
You want to know where it is? Or what do you want to know?
I like to know
No judging here! I hope you're doing better now.
Can I post the link here for Hero Journey Club?
It costs 30$ per week
1x per week 80 minutes
I’m not enough money it
I like playing video games help my anxiety and training therapist same therapist
Hello there! We appreciate your kindness but please know that monetary transactions are not allowed to be discussed within the server. We kindly ask you to take this matter to DMs instead. We will also proceed with deleting the messages regarding this. Thank you for understanding.
Understood, I apologize.
Is there a way to turn off the weird motion blur effect? It doesn't normally bother me that much, but when I was doing the Temple of Gales, looking down into the skybox made me feel pretty queasy 🤢
Unfortunately not. 😦 The Tower has a similar effect on the skybox so you'll want to be careful if you try that.
Hey
I’m suggesting with community
What do you mean?
Everyone not understanding me because my autism
In chat
In game
Everyone get my text?
@finite zinc
It worked just fine for me dw
What is it you need help with?
My Nintendo switch
I’m need help please my Nintendo switch typing in game hard to type
I don't type on switch
I don't either
just emote
feel like most peeps emote on switch to save time
Typing on switch is kinda difficult. Mostly you just need to follow the instructions, which I know is tough due to sight issues. Once you've done it a few times it can be a little easier.
Would be nice if they added more emotes for switch users but I know that's probably low priority.
I don't even emote. Half the time it freezes my game up even if it is just for 20 seconds. Not worth it overall 🥲
I try to be friendly with my community
To each their own.
Ah hit send button on accident.
- edit
My brain can't handle the lag. Messed up my brain loading time. Factor in trying to process what each emote even is when I can barely see them then coordinate w my fingers to actually select it, is not worth sacrificing my own enjoyment of game to try and express being friendly unfortunately
I wish the UI for it was easier to use on switch, and that it didn't mess up my game. Sometimes even ppl using them doesn't work for me it just makes them freeze and then I don't see what they used 😭😭
I mean more why i feel like I have to send emotes. I wouldn't if I didn't feel like I had no choice. Sorry if I made that feel personal I didn't mean to.
No no you're OK. I didn't take it personal. I just wish it was easier to send them. When I play on pc it's a totally different story for me. Tho even then sometimes getting the right one is a pain lol
I was mining and I realized the main reason I ever know a bug has come out of it is the noise. Which made me think of the hearing impaired, I feel a visual aid should be added to show an insect spawned.
That is very true
I personally never hear them i just see them on the ground
I find the catching of those bugs really hard. I start to panic and then i need the motor skills to switch to the tool for bug catching and then also the skills to aim.
I find the tool switch is more awkward since they updated the tool wheel for the Switch release.
I thought I was imagining it since I stopped playing right around switch release and came back in Jan lol but maybe I wasn't!
They added an unequip button and changed the shape a bit. Those are okay...
it's mostly on PC at least if you hold down R too long while picking a tool it'll automatically unequip after equipping it lol
Hmm... I know there was some lights you could mount around your screen, to show where certain audio things comes from. I wonder if they would work with Palia for those smaller audio clues we can get (like where the Grove spawns, bugs appearing etc).
Seriously, how do you know which direction the Grove spawns? To me it sounds thr same every time
I can't tell directional. So if I hear it I just start going towards known Grove spawn locations on that side of the map lol
I usually only have audio in one ear (bad habit of being a mom and needing to keep an ear on the kids), so I rarely hear the Grove.
yeah I'm usually playing on mute so I simply run around and hope I get lucky
You can put tools on Hotkeys aswell (atleast on PC)
Maybe that helps in those Situations
I have my bow on a hotkey, it's really helpful esp for hunting the wolves
Huh I'll have a look at that. My big issue is usually switching between the pick and the bug belt for the node spawned bugs.
That would work the same
I found it kinda fiddly to switch from Axe to Bow whilst hunting the Magic wolves
I will probably run into that issue as well once they are fixed. I admittedly didn't go deliberately hunting muujin often.
My mouse has two side buttons, and I put the the bug tool and the bow there because it was easier for me. I'm still not always fast enough. But it makes it easier since the tool wheel change on PC for me.
Ohh I didn't think about that mine does too. Maybe I should do that.
Hi. I have a problem. The quest "Order is served" is missing one recipe for "Mini-fives". Where can I get it?
you should get all the recipes automatically upon starting the quest, but make sure you're checking the right cooking stations. petit fives should be at the prep station
Thank You))
I legitimately started to try and train myself for this.
What do is basically climb on the very top of the huge cliff behind the central stables when it's around 11 pm in game, so I can be as far away as I can from any other noise while still being in a pretty central area of the entire map (there's a reason it's called "central stables, after all
).
Then, when midnight strikes and the ghostly "WOOSH!" sound plays, I turn my camera around until the sound seems to come from the front + I can hear it equally (or close to it) in both my headphones.
All while also trying to pay attention to the intensity of that "woosh!" The more muffled it sounds, the farther away the grove is.
Once I think I know the general direction, I hop down and run there.
I've already managed to find the grove before anyone else (or at least along with the first 1-2 players) 2-3 times like this.
totally! :) and just so you know for next time, this channel's more for discussion of accessibility in the sense of people who have access needs like with colorblindness, motion sickness, and so on. for general game questions you'll usually get better response in #🤝│game-help or #🤝│quest-help
Also, I started to memorise the most important part: the spawn points.
Until the devs won't try to troll us (
), so far they are the following:
- On top of Pavel mines, to the left of the entrance (when facing said entrance);
- Inside the flooded fortress, both on the southern side (the cliff just outside the mine passage) and the northern side (right in front of the big entrance that leads into the forest). They don't spawn together, it's always either one side or the other;
- The cliff outside of the flooded fortress (iirc, should be the one to the right of the fortress' northern entrance when exiting said fortress);
- The cliffs facing Statues Garden.
Thank you! I'll try doing that!
That helps!
I guess it's a real problem for the hearing impaired though. Maybe a very bright shooting star could help? Likea shooting star that goes in the general direction of the location
Somewhere in this discord there is a map copy of all known grove spawns I just can't remember where.
I can't recall who made it and upkeep it but I had a copy saved!
I wonder if anyone will update the palia maps app/site to include grove spawns (and the new chapaa piles too)?
The updates on Palia maps mention december as the last update date. :|a Not sure who maintains that one.
I remember that this was once discussed in this channel, and I ended up suggesting the spawn of (small spoiler ahead!) ||ancient flowbugs like the ones inside the temple of the gales, since they are in a hot pink colour|| and should be a lot easy to spot and follow in the dark/dim light, but a big shooting star sounds much better.
That's a good idea too
I can't remember if we're allowed to link in here, but I got this link from another channel on this discord so it should be fine? sorry mods if it's not
okay, edit, I realized the website linked mods for the game on a different page, so probably best not to link it, but if you search "discover rummage piles in palia", there's a site that updates where the chapaa pile is every day on both maps
How do y'all go about remembering things? Do you just use a map every time? I don't know if it's the ADHD or not, but i can't remember anything. Grove locations, hunting places, foraging places ... It's all so much to remember. I usually just end up walking around mindlessly in hopes of finding anything
I guess being a different flavour of ND might help, in my case.
I have this tendency of noticing patterns
Yeah the tism is not helping me on this one unfortunately. Adhd is taking over I'm afraid 🙃
You just told me why I can never seem to go quite the right way 😅 i lost my hearing in one ear(most of it) over the night a year ago. And when i think I hear it clearly, ofc I don't only in the one ear 🤣🤣
Aw, sorry about that.
I'm hoh in both ears (and already in the "get yourself those aids ya stubborn lady!" category), and my left one has been taking most of the toll; I can still hear something, but it's a "something" that actually means "almost nothing except for the pesky, constant and literal buzzing".
Did my message after yours now show up sharky? I can't see it 🤦🏼♀️
I look it up, mostly. If I'm focused on getting something specific that takes awhile, I will learn the path I need after a day or 2 (irl, I mean), but once I'm done and doing other things I forget again. So when I really needed silk for the order furniture, I got the route thru Pavel mines down cold, but now I can't get into the flooded fortress to save my life unless I'm already on the north side and pin the entrance.
I think it probably (and accidentally) contained one of the forbidden words and got insta-nuked. I got the notification for the ping/tag, but when I checked the message was already gone.
could also have been a banned emote- i know the clown emote, for example, will get your message auto-removed, not sure if they have other emotes on that list
I can't for the life of me figure out what word that could've been 🤔 I was talking about my ear doc, an upcoming scan, a year's worth of waiting until I finally get the scan in April. And that I was offered hearing aids, refused, and now regret 😅 (condensed version)
-reads the final part-
... Are you me? 'Cause that's exactly how the last visit went for me.
Oh you didn't know? They cloned you!
Here I am 😁😅
does... the clown emote mean something???
I think it's because over time people have started using it as a silent way to call other people "clowns" (derogatory).
As for remembering things: I heavily use the wiki to look stuff up when I can and/or I add it to my big text file of game stuff to remember.
The wiki is definitely a lifesaver.
I'd never remember all the conditions for fish without it x_x;
yeah, people would react with the clown emoji when people said things in chat, sometimes deserved imo (when people were being bigots), but also when people would just be discussing opinions on the game or talking about their accessibility concerns (undeserved), so it got out of hand and they removed it
and yes definitely the wiki!! it's so useful, i'm so grateful to people who maintain wikis
ahhh that's a bummer, glad people had their eye on that, then
I love the wikia and palia maps site for when I'm fishing or bug catching specific items.
I'll definitely use the wiki then!
Also what a bummer for the clown. I use it a lot to describe myself 🙃
For remembering things, in addition to using online resources, I have a text document so I can note things in "my language". Not actually a language, but I mean "in a manner probably only I would understand". My document would probably be meaningless to anyone else, but it helps me with the things I do often or things I intended to do and didn't get to for whatever reason. (I also do spreadsheets for more complex things.)
Hey everyone! Just wanted to post an update on the accessibility survey that's been circulating around for all Palians far and wide to answer as they please!
We've extended the closing date by a week until <t:1710572340:F> (local to your timezone!)
We've almost got 200 responses so far, which would be double our minimum standard!
The survey can be directly accessed here: https://forms.gle/ttxAFhdA4a79fLdm6
For those who want more information, you can read more in the survey's introduction itself, or see the pinned message here: #💬│palia-general message
Oh yay thank you! I meant to do it today but ADHD-brain got in the way. Glad I'll have time to get it done 💜
No worries 💜 Glad to know it's already working out positively for someone :D
@hasty berry This is a super good channel! A nice community within a community
There is a nice survey you should see a few posts up. It would be very helpful if you took it!
yaaaaay I'm so glad y'all did this. \o/ Putting groceries and was like GYAH I have to get that done tonight. Relieved I can take care of it this coming week instead.
Thank you!
Love the additional context and clarifications
Thank you! 🫶
We're so happy and thankful for the receptive response and feedback we've had over this survey!!! Thank you @whole arch and @fluid plank for taking time out of your days to participate in this, and for sharing your excitement with us! It definitely keeps us and the team motivated to keep pressing on.
So I stopped playing Palia in like late september and just picked it up again and now I'm getting queasiness and motion sickness and this weird tense feeling behind my eyes. Am I nuts? Did something change? (yes, I turned on motion sickness setting!)
The running animation has changed, and the lighting too. Maybe something between those is causing it?
I know when I first played after the animation change it gave me a headache for a while.
If it was in the Gales temple or the Tower it might be the effects in the skybox as well. A fair number of people have mentioned it caused them motion sickness.
Would be great if it wernt so dark when it's night, I wear glasses and I battle to see
I actually still find it way too bright and I have trouble sometimes keeping track of in-game time because of it.
Just goes to show that sliders are best so that everyone can tailor their experience to fit their own needs 😊
For those who may struggle to find the spawn spots for the new Chapaa rummage piles in Bahari: so far I got these spawn points, if it helps.
Someone in game said that their spawn is all along the coastline, with a particular one harder to find in the area on beach level between the lighthouse and the docks.
I just thought it would be neat to have a visual on a more localised search area.
I only started playing about a week before the last update and I’m getting that too! I need to take an eye break every hour at least. No clue why but it’s not just you
Ah yes. Same!
hope everyone's having a nice time
We are so close to 200 survey responses!
Answered it now!
One more with the location "between Lighthouse and the docks" that's allegedly harder to find than the other spawns.
Finally answered the survey too! (Apparently all it took to do so was me going on vacation 😂)
Hey, everything takes spoons/battery-charge/spell-slots! I'm glad the extension has allowed you and others the time needed to make your voices heard!
I just became aware of the survey, and I filled it out! Thanks for doing this.
Yeah, I am really hoping something comes from it.
Something I noticed that the game doesn't do is letting esc close all windows. It'll close some, but for others you have to click the X
Just wanting to say again, thank you to everyone who made/created the survey and putting all the work into it, etc. It means a lot and is greatly appreciated.
Definitely should be a thing. It's one of those things that is expected program behavior.
I like esc to close windows since it makes it easier to get back to whatever I was doing quickly
It's also a UI consistency issue that it doesn't all work the same.
Same with the fact that the key or button you used to open it doesn't always close it either. Grinds my gears!
I really appreciate this channel. I think mostly with me, I understand the very basic need for accessiblity - like just players with more common disabilities. That being said, it's interesting to hear in here about how other disabilities which may not be obvious affect how people play. It makes me struggle with things in other games, like Mythic Plus, where people are hyper aggressive for others that can't keep up, but so many issues affect ability to play games. Sometimes looking back you wonder - was it a lack of skill with others, or were they facing hurdlels that other people didn't have to?
It can also be a lack of information from the game itself to teach you how systems work. Because in Palia's case some folks may have never played a farming sim before. Mechanics that are expected or second nature to some in this type of game may be completely new to others.
Yeah and I am more abe lt understand that kind of issue better now. Obviously I have my own disabilities I have to deal with now which changes how I view things, but then I think about that whole "Get Good" phrase everyone throws around and that must just be heartbreaking for someone who physically can't do the same thing abled people can do.
Get Good is unfortunately a widespread MMO mentality. I wish they would chill on it in this game at least though since there's nothing competitive about it. 😩
I say physically but I feel I should clarify - this is all issues. Physical or otherwise. But I think the result is just that you can't make your character do what you really want it to do
Every time someone comes in here and learns something new, feels seen, and/or gains a little more empathy and perspective for their fellow players it makes me so happy.
Doing the Gales temple on an alt and @.@ I see they didn't do anything about the skybox. Thankfully I know where I'm going this time so I won't have to stare at it as much.
What is the skybox? Im hearing everyone talk about it and I'm confused?
A skybox is a method of creating backgrounds to make a video game level appear larger than it really is. When a skybox is used, the level is enclosed in a cuboid. The sky, distant mountains, distant buildings, and other unreachable objects are projected onto the cube's faces (using a technique called cube mapping), thus creating the illusion of ...
And what is wrong with it?
Just trying to understand. Like is it bad for visually impaired people? Motion sickness? What would need to be changed?
It has a weird blur effect on it when the winds are really strong. Its more noticeable when you are gliding over the gaps because you see after images of your character behind and sorta below you.
For me it makes me feel a bit motion sick and I don't normally get motion sicknes from games.
Thank you for the update on the accessibility survey available until Friday March 15 2024. I would not have participated without your post.
So that's why the region triggers vertigo & extreme nausea for me! I figured it was just the too-well-done visuals of heights. I took a 2+ month break from the game, cuz I could not progress in main story/quest line!
On the bright side now there are lots of video walkthroughs to find everything so you can progress through it quickly.
Yep--if you get too close to the edge it's a heatwave/vapor-trail that induces nausea, disorientation, and migraines for me.
And yes! This survey is still open for any who haven't had the chance to complete it yet! The data we're getting is super important, so fill it out if you can and share it around your other spaces as well!
Original Post: #♿│accessibility-discussions message
It might be less noticeable if you do the temple at night but it's also harder to see the objectives you need to interact with since most of them are pretty small. 😅
Interesting
I get motion sick very easily. I shall go explore and see if it affects me too.
Ahhhh vapor-trail that's the word I was looking for to describe it!
The Tower jumping puzzle course has a similar skybox but it's dark and more purple.
I definitely have found that interacting with objects has been a bit of a pain you need to look at things at exactly the right distance/ angle has definitely been a little frustrating. Also UI scaling and how small the text is even when docked and on the big screen
I sometimes struggle with gardening because of this. I move over to grab a Knapweed, but then the mouse slips by 0.00002 inches and I'm accidentally harvesting a veggie instead.
Yes, the text is so small even on a big screen. Even with my glasses on I have to squint my eyes to read properly 😅
Yeah I don't recall it being as bad previously but since they redid the UI scaling it's gotten a lot more sensitive.
SAME! Its been giving me such awful eye fatigue so even if i want to keep playing i cant cause my eyes are so strained
So theres no way to upscale text in palia rn? dang i was hoping i was just missing it.
Nope not yet sadly 😦 on PC changing the game resolution might help but I don't know if the text scales properly with it.
You know what? I'm now intrigued enough to give it a try myself. https://tenor.com/view/emoji-thinking-gif-8387963
It would be nice to have a XIV style UI system where you can move and reszie elements individually.
But that would require having an entirely separate UI for the Switch since it wouldn't be able to support the function.
Well, this is a bit of a disappointment. I can't change the resolution.
I tried to select windowed -> 1280 x 768, and then I even tried to restart the game after confirming the change. It's automatically back to "windowed full screen" at the original 1920 x 1080.
For me the apply button wouldn't activate when I changed my resolution. But if I hit the X on the settings window I got an option to confirm or discard my changes so I could confirm that way.
Oh... For some reason the "apply windows settings" button stayed greyed out (like when the action isn't available). 😅
Anyways... I don't see any big difference.
Windowed down to 1280 x 768 and then enlarged makes it look like just the regular "windowed full screen" at 1920 x 1080.
And trying the full screen option with 1280 x 768 once again makes the text slightly more blurry.
There is something that looks definitely bigger, tho (Bandicam just couldn't catch it): the in game cursor.
tw for ableism and im not showing who put it but jeez i cant believe people still use these kind of memes as insults. someone put that reaction under something i said and honestly its so sad how widely accepted ableism is (yes i did report btw^^)
I’m so sorry everyone
Would be nice if one day it changed, but likely not. The world isn't made for disabled people, it's modified for them. Hopefully I don't get too much hate for that, been disabled 15 years and just been my experience.
I’m mad myself
that's vile. i'm sorry that this happened to you
so many good insults and yet they had to resort to disparaging my community ! wild.
i had to report someone today for open ableism in gen :-/ it's wild how much it happens in broad daylight
I’m will
Wish more people would care but a lot of people won't unless it affects someone they care about.
To them, it's just funny. And the more upset you get, the funnier it is.
I'm unsurprised when I see some people show their butts when it comes to stuff like that, but it's still so frustrating to see. People need to do better.
I wish they would. You know, I think part of the issue too is that online, every disability is an invisible disability too. I've thought about that a lot..
As someone with an invisible disability, you definitely get treated like a liar. Most people don't believe you and it sucks and I bet it's like that a lot for anyone with a disability and tries to talk to jerkos online.
Sorry, feeling a bit down today about how I am treated with my disabilities. Got a job that doesn't care why you are out or if you have FMLA they still treat you like you're a burden if you are out too much. Not anyone's problem but mine ❤️
It's alright, don't apologize for that
It sucks
Some days you feel accepted and some days you feel like an other. Thank goodness in this little sub section of the server I always feel accepted
Best thing holder for my Nintendo switch playing this game?
Be careful asking questions
May I ask what this means?
To me, it just looks like a drooling frog and I know it's supposed to be insulting but honestly I don't understand? (I'm autistic if that clears things up).
Like what does it mean? Cause if someone sent that to me, I'd honestly have no idea what it meant or that they were trying to insult me
My thought process:
- drooling animal
- dog = animal
- dog drools when it wants food
=> The frog wants food
But I guess that's too much of an autistic approach
They're saying the post is (The R word. I know that's not nice, but that's exactly what they mean)
As for the why it means that, I just don't feel comfortable explaining that because there's no nice way to explain stereotypes.
Oh. I would've honestly never guessed. Thanks for explaining!
(I understand the stereotypes it refers to now).
Thanks! I now understand it was very inappropriate.
ugh so sorry i got bonked, my post got auto removed
basically the frog is a horrible and offensive depiction of disabled people (not that drooling or having ur eyes like that is horrible, but people use it insultingly) and that person is calling me disabled, saying i'm acting like the frog.
(which, even if that was the case it gives no one any right to be mean to me, i am a full human person even if i did have a disability that causes that)
does that help?
You're welcome! People can be cruel and don't consider how a simple click can make people feel so awful. But it does.
I saw them being mean to you Eyore. Sorry you had to deal with that. Hopefully the new mods can help make chat feel more welcoming once all the drama dies down
Oh that's horrible!
Why did they do that? That's very inappropriate. Was it in the Palia discord? I really thought the Palia community was nice, but I guess there's always mean people everywhere. So sad that happened.
I hope the mods will do something about that!
i dont know why they did that, yeah it was in palia :(( but the mods removed it! and i think banned the person eventually?
Typically people put that emote on a post when they think the other persons opinion or statement is beneath them
That's great! At least they were called out for it.
Sorry to go into detail on the why, but I think it's important to understand so if you see people emote to your stuff like that or see it in channels you can know why it's so bad and help report them and whatnot if you want to
Yes of course! I honestly would never have guessed that's what it meant. I tend to be a bit oblivious lol.
I'll definitely report people that do things like that.
Exactly right! Please pass anything concerning like this on to us via Mod Mail so we know what is going on
oh i already reported it dw!
The dawn of the final day
<t:1710572400:R> remain
Just wanted to give a friendly reminder/notice that the accessibility survey (which can be found in Macy's pinned message) closes tonight at midnight Pacific time. Thank you all for the support so far, we are just shy of 200 responses (like holy cow y'all this is amazing) and are looking forward to getting into some data analysis on the results!
hey, if it would help out, i have a little bit of a background in data analysis and could do some stuff with it :O
@static wolf not sure who exactly is running this but uh... ye
(i teach people how to do basic stats/analysis in R as one of my jobs)
a graphic to explain that the number of disabled people playing doesn't mean that accessibility isn't in high demand. Accessibility tools are not just the right thing to do in general, but also an investment in growth. (relevant graphic for some of what's discussed here + my commentary on it)
Love this! — I’m a UX Designer, me and my team try to advocate the mindset of: Accessibility design is a foundation of any good design.
Anything that is designed to help disabled people will always benefit all other user base/players type (non-disabled, neurodivergent, etc.).
Btw — ‘user base/player type’ is just a term that we use to help us create a clear objective of “who” we’re designing for. And to note that, there are multiple types of ppl our design will serve 🙂
ooh! UX is cool and something im considering pursuing later in life/career!!!
(could u shoot me a dm abt how you got into it -sincerely, a junior in uni who is lost)
yup! making sure everything is labeled properly and has alt text helps translation as well as screen readers, captions help with hearing loss and auditory processing issues and translation and using the thing while your kid sleeps on your shoulder, being able to remap keys helps with mobility issues and left handedness, toggles to turn off autoplay and animation helps with visually triggered disorders and device performance - it all increases the number of people your product appeals to which means growth is easier and you can brag about your accessibility because the bar is so damn low. (this was all crystalized for me via a community support job)
I’m happy to help if you have any questions. I was once a lost junior uni too! 🥺
Yes! Agreed 100%
yeah i like, started cs and then realized i didnt wanna do it as a career.... and now im getting disillusioned with industry in general, im considering staying in academia? ux is cool but idk how to get into it, next semester im taking an HCI class that im looking forward to
but ye, my dms are open ^^
I think you’ll love that class! And it’s great that you’re enthusiastic about accessibility design topics.
Researching is key to UX, keep reading and hanging out in forums like this is great for that. Observe people, discuss with people, always questions ‘whys’, then ‘hows’. It’s a trait that I always look for when hiring.
I was a CS major too. Your degree and the courses they teach will still come in handy though. I would say you’re on the right track! Hope this helps, good luck! 🥰
Yes! — DM me anytime if you need anything.
im also an info sci/arts major rn cuz i needed a minor and practice self care by doing all of the things
thank you!
Ohhh my friend is an info sci art major too! You guys are lovely ppl 🥰
i actually have a research project for a class i may need to do, and depending on what it is, uhhhh would it be ok to interview a few people here? cuz doing a game accessibility thing could be really cool
That’s the best way to recruit ppl to interview imo, but maybe you should check with the admin if it’s allowed?
Some online community doesn’t allow this to prevent complications.
hm true, thats kinda why i asked if it would be ok before just outright doing it, ill see how to contact abt it but im also not sure if its within scope of the project i can do
There are new mods now? Do we know how many?
This post has their intros and such #📢│community-news message
Not very many of the previous mods seemed to stay over.
Well thanks gods because the old team needed to go
They were laxist and way too patronizing, couldn't deal with any kind of tension and just didn't do the actual work. Maybe it'll feel safer now.
it feels a LOT more quieter now that you need to verify your phone number to chat in the discord too. so hopefully that will make it easier too since before there was always at least 100k+ people on and talking all at once across many channels
It defintely helps keep a lid on the spam as well.
yeah, it's definitely a lot quieter. Everytime i peek general for example, I feel like I can keep up, haha
And beforehand, I don't think I could, at all
I turned almost all the channels off immediately after joining cause it was too noisy x_x;;
Completely fair. I just peek other random channels out of curiousity the most-- except for the switch one. That was moreso me trying to see how Palia is running on the switch every once in a while
I usually keep to this channel now or discussions nowadays, mainly while looking though. I usually just read/lurk
, but i feel more comfy speaking in both than in others.
for the record I'd love for you all to get #🍧│palia-chill active again, it was my favorite channel but it slowly stopped being used
it has a 15 minute cool down

Tbh the slow mode in here is already so long that I feel like it inhibits discussion, I don't think I could get anything out of palia chill
It's that, but also i just didnt have the greatest experience last time I was there. so it just doesnt feel right for me for both of those reasons, sadly.
I'm also anti slow mode so I can't vibe there. My brain doesn't think in long messages and I often have to send a couple shorter ones back to back, which leave me struggling in here as is /:
oh yeah no I specifically meant it for those that prefer slower chats, as that's what chill chat was made for
so if you want less slow mode yeah it isn't the place
I understand that, tbhtbh. It's one of the reasons I try to edit my msg if the slowmode is too long

Had a little chat about it and we reduced the slow mode to 10 seconds. We have to keep it enabled for anti-spam reasons, but i believe that should suffice
Ooooh ty
Aww that's so nice! Thank you! Appreciate the effort

No worries. Happy to help as always
Also, idk if anybody has said anything? But y'all are doing lovely as mods so far. I've seen you guys being on top of stuff the best ya'll can, and it's lovely to see.
💛
Thank you
We very much appreciate it!
The only channels I end up hanging with are: this one (accessibility), issues discussion, memes, fan art, and (at times) screenshots.
Never even set foot in any general chat, except maybe the "chill" one.
I am also forever set on "do not disturb" since it's the only status where there are no sound notifications.
You can also turn off sound notifs entirely in settings i did that a long time ago because i hate the sounds lol especially the person joins call sound i despise the jump scare lol
😂 see, i like having the sound of someone joining a call, because then i get jumpscared by them speaking and not knowing they joined
Valid lol
omg only 10s here now... our prayers have been awnsered!
Let the discussion flow!
@elder veldt I know it takes time but do you know how long it'll take to process data, communicate it and all?
Can you ping me again at 5pm after we're done with conducting interviews today O: I've made a note to respond to this fully and with the attention it deserves but today is hectic at work rn
5pm my time is.... 4 and a half hours from now
okok!!!! i hope work is softer to you than most!
Having a bit of trouble with fishing. I'm lefthanded, have reduced mobility, and use a trackball mouse (due to said reduced mobility). The higher-level fish (caught with the exquisite rod and glow worms) somehow manage to move from completely as far left as is possible to completely as far right as possible within roughly the space of a second. And I physically cannot move my trackball fast enough to catch the fish, partly because I'm having to hold down the left mouse button (which makes my fingers move slower, since they're "tethered").
I know there are things that make that "safe zone" bigger, but I've run across precisely ONE in all my time playing (a quest reward), and since they're temporary, I've long since used it up and I don't have the recipe to make more. I've never even SEEN the recipe, just seen the finished product for sale for medallions in Einar's shop. Any other suggestions to make fishing less painful?
you can buy at einar's shop a hook that's called major safe zone size booster, it makes your ( ) really big and you can combine it with the fisherman brew too, it cost 10 guild coin but i think it could really help you
Yeah, that's the problem -- I can't level up fishing because I can't catch the fish.
Oh it looks like you can only craft the rod health booster one. The rest are from buying with medals and you get some from the Gales fish bundle.
Which... again... I have to CATCH FISH to satisfy...
maybe you can fish really easy fish like the one you can get in kilima river (they don't move much) for leveling
I may end up having to. Getting the two recipes in Bahari isn't happening either. Been trying for over a week and nothing.
i meant the ones without any bait
The sushi and the other recipe (i forget which it is atm) are unfortunately RNG. I know sushi in particular I had bad luck with and it took quite a while.
yup these can take a lot of time unfortunately i wish you all the best and i really hope we could craft all the hook ourselves
I'm gonna put in a suggestion about being able to craft the other types of tackle too. It'd definitely be useful to have.
Sad that there's literally nothing that can be done for someone with reduced mobility, but with the amount of bugs this game has when trying to do NORMAL STUFF, I honestly didn't expect anything but "tough nuts, pal". XD
Yeah it looks like the only adjustment in the options is the casting speed for fishing.
These are some workarounds, but they may not work for you and your situation:
I have found using a controller to be more accessible for fishing; however, that may not be an option for you depending on your type of reduced mobility. I use a 3rd-party PS3 controller, though XBox controllers are allegedly more compatible.
It is also possible to bind a key on your keyboard to hold down instead of clicking the mouse-button for reeling in (the keybind you'll want to set is "Primary Action Button").
Controller isn't an option because of fixed income. I can't afford one.
fishing also seems like it takes forever to level, just each fish give so little xp even with boosts, focus, glow worms, and star quality
Fishing felt much faster than leveling cooking to me. But it's also less involved than cooking... cooking feels like it should give more XP per dish specifically because of how busy it is.
yeah, fishing sucks a lot for accessibility - I think some of the foods might offer the same benefits as the rods einar offers, if cooking isn't an issue (though I know it is for many people). i've suggested letting us craft more hooks so many times bc you're right, it sucks that a lot of the tools to make fishing accessible are locked behind leveling up fishing
Tbh the thing that helps with () being larger should be a starter item, even if it could be a little costy
fisherman's brew is evidently the one that gives larger ()- luckily that's cooked on the grill so no problems with minigames, although you have to get to level 5 fishing to buy the recipe :(
for speed, you can make the () move faster side-to-side with fish stew (unfortunately, you have to get the recipe from rng fishing in bahari, which means it also requires doing a lot of fishing to get the tool to help with fishing, but if you know someone with the recipe you could cook with them)
Also unfortunately there's no way to make the fish move slower (another thing I've submitted as a request because for me the faster () makes it harder for me to catch fish, I need the fish to slow down so I can react, not speed up my tool to match the too fast fish)
But in general they lock all the fishing stuff that could make it more accessible behind leveling fishing, which just makes them completely ineffective as tools (another example is bobber visibility, the most visible bobbers with a glow effect are locked behind either a temple bundle with hard fish requirements or 560 guild coins). I wish they'd change it, though I admittedly don't have a ton of hope that they will
They could make a less fancy glowy one for a lower level / cheaper price requirement or change the standard bobber attached to each pole to glow a bit.
Have you tried or had any luck adjusting your mouse sensitivity before fishing? That's the only other thing I can think of off the top of my head that doesn't require fishing levels or another person to help.
Nope. Decreasing the sensitivity just makes it so I have to move it MORE, and increasing it just means the slightest touch shoots the reticle off to Narnia and then I have to pull it back.
This is also a problem I have, my vision is poor. But I figured I'd just complain about ONE issue I have instead of BOTH of them. XD
Well if folks never bring it up / make suggestions about it there's little chance of it ever being looked at barring them making a full accessibility pass on the game.
I remembered to respond! Whew ADHD brain wins this time.
First, thank you sincerely Bruje for asking this and being passionate about this cause as we move onto the next, much less glorious or even visible stage of this work.
As you implied it will definitely take time. We (I) haven't spoken to the group yet to fully gage and detail out timelines for this stage, but from experience, it should take at least several weeks just to carefully parse through the responses. This is because we collected both quantitative and qualitative data. Where, the qualitative data will (as it should be) handled with caution, and care.
The data analysis will just be one component of this period. The other thing we hope to do as mentioned in the open letter is to acquire testimonials, which we now need to determine what the methodology behind that will look like.
Then of course, once this community as a whole as well as anyone with any vested interest in this in general all collectively feel like enough of a picture has been painted to tell the full story, we must produce presentation materials for consumption.
All that said, our small but mighty little group of volunteer Palians are expecting to buckle in for what will likely be months of work ahead.
Thank you very much for all of the work you're putting in (and thank you to the people participating both in the intiative and in this channel!)
Accessibility is a win for everyone, and I am very grateful and excited to see the passion people have for advocating and educating in the shared quest to make Palia better for more people. I don't always weigh in verbally, but I am reading - and glowing - when I visit this corner of the server.
☕
Too many people see life as a pie. The more you try to make the game accessible for people that aren't them, the more that they take away from them.
It stinks. It's not a pie. We can all be happy.
It's really more like mathematical pi! Endlessly advancing, with more than enough for everyone.
SORRY CUS I FORGOT TO REMIND YOU
I would like to be part of the efforts to make this work btw
so in the dev notes they said that they'd heard feedback about the last temples and were looking to improve the experience- although they didn't explicitly say accessibility, I hope that's something they've included
Map grid in the future! And improvments to climbing.
https://palia.com/news/dev-update-6
Do we know if Palia will ever be Mac compatible on Steam? Or no? Because this is my favorite game but I also know very few games are Mac compatible…
It's not official but it seems like there is a way to get it running on Mac...
https://discord.com/channels/809856101326913567/1136399336385806427
That’s great! I have a windows boot camp on my Mac so I can access Palia from there - it’s just ridiculously buggy. Was just hoping we might get an official Mac release down the road…
I'm well and truly livid that they are tying flower seeds to bug catching
and that is the nicest way I can possibly find to phrase that right now
Yeah, honestly, I would of liked the idea more if Flower Seeds were something that you bought or something similar... or even make your own if you picked flowers or something.
I get the idea of where theyre going for with it, but it is unfortunate that if you want flowers, youre kinda forced to do a specific activity to do it
yeah and if it's anything like the starstones, we can expect terrible rng
and bug catching is not accessible so
Might be able to check the palia steam page, it comes out March 25th
sorta summary
- Dev updates no longer have a schedule
- Steam Release & Patch 0.178 - steam release, new temple (trying new things from feedback, better guidance, new mechanics, not the last temple), trying to fix climbing, flowers & trees from bugs(revise existing trees so they grow!), spring decor, wedding outfits
- Frogbert - gets his own little section
- The future - building blocks (sorta minecrafty from the image), new blueprints (stories!), friendship level 5, map grid, ammo pouch, pathways & walkways
- Q & A - Maji market is twice a year, bug fixes are hard especially now there are multiple platforms, Community features are coming (nothing to share right now) and the membership cap will go up, friends are capped at 200(including pending requests)
the wedding outfits seem like they'll be cash shop given they have special effects on them. (and the fact that they said no more free clothes previously)
Honestly, people mentioning the visual effects of the wedding outfits (I didn't see that when going through the patch notes myself), made me remember another thing, I really wish they added, if it hasn't already.
Please let us turn off the visual effects from outfits. When the fairy outfit dropped the first time, I struggled and had to take breaks because the visuals were too much for me and was super over stimulating.
I completely forgot they did/had outfits like that bc it's been so long since I played. 😭
It's the flowers blooming around them on the ground in the gif.
reduced animation toggle when
Yeah, I see that now! I just didn't catch it when I skimmed through earlier
And apparently it'll be more effects when people are nearby in the outfits up to 5 people.
s6 is allergic to the word accessability and it shows
a reduced effects option could cover outfits, subtler effects for tilling (the pop animation when a square finishes in particular seemed to bother a fair amount of people), and all kinds of other stuff
Oh yeah, does it still do that weird red burst effect when you till something?? You saying "pop animation" makes me think it's still a thing, but hopefully it's not red or flashing anymore?
it still is in game rn

I've been thinking about trying Palia again lately just because I miss it, but... maybe I still need to take a break then. Or just avoid gardening (even though that's like.. the core part of the game imo..)
and the fertilizer sparkles are still there too
Other people could come over and till for you potentially and you wouldn't loose XP. Since you only get it from harvesting iirc?
still an annoying thing that s6 should adress. idk why theyre so allergic to making proper accessability options and mechanics since they pride themselves on being welcoming and inclusive
Maybe! It's a though at least in general. I did used to have someone help me with cooking way back when haha. had them at least help do the parts that I struggled the most with
The dirt puff / pop animation was added later on.. I remember that much. A long while ago it used to just be the sound.
I missed the part about flowers being tied to bug hunting. I hope for folks there is an option to buy some of them as well...or have them as friendship gifts or something.
Yeah, and it's just a chance they'll drop the seeds.
Which I can understand, but I also know how RNG can be sometimes in this game :(
honestly it makes way more sense for the seeds to be buyable from somewhere then some random bug having them. idk why they love going down these weird and unessecary route to get items. its kind of stupid
like, have kenli be the one to sell the flower seeds. he has a passion for gardening. come ON s6, this stuff is NOT hard at all
Even foraging for some of them would've been cool.
i mean, bugs having them makes some sense in the idea that they're pollinators, but it definitely shouldn't be the only way. we literally have foraging (aka picking flowers and stuff) as a skill- it would make sense to include seeds as obtainable through both skills. and yeah, having a shop- kenli has a passion for gardening, delaila/badruu have a farming store at their barn, zeki just generally sells stuff, ashura is the foraging mentor, etc etc. let us get the seeds in multiple ways!!
exactly. but s6 is trying so hard to make skills more relevant, when theyre just making them more of a chore to unwillingly do
S6 is very invested in things being a time sink because it's an 'MMO' and having more people engaged/playing looks good for shareholders and/or investors.
its like trying to make WoW cozy while completely missing what makes that game cozy in its own right
the thing is, imo foraging is a very irrelevant skill right now compared to bug catching, so rejuvenating foraging as a skill through flower seeds would make sense
cutting trees is part of the foraging skill so it's needed for furniture building and hunting
Any guesses what the accessibility nightmare will be with this next temple?
TBF when you have nerve damage in your hands any game is an accessibility nightmare lol
If I don't laugh I cry
Hoping one day we can just play with our brains
I'm hoping the guide flower patches were help make things more navigable.
with a new mechanic, who knows
I'm just hoping that whatever bundle is associated with the new temple isn't primarily fishing related
(Its not >:) )
Ah, yeah, that's fair, I forgot cutting trees counted as foraging.
I hope so too, but what I hope for most of all for navigation is an overhead map for the temple area, like we have for the main world areas and our housing plot. I think I would've still gotten lost in the air temple even if it had flowers, but an overhead map would've helped a ton. Idk, maybe the flower implementation will be super helpful though! I hope it's helpful!
just went to look at it and it's interesting (did i also go put everything in my lockbox? yes i did)
Yeah I hope they'll go back and add maps to the temples.
So will we be missing out on new temple too?
I don't remember this from the dev blog, but on their YouTube community post they said that there will be controller rebinding in the next update, which is a big accessibility win
So I need to buy a controller for my pc?
playstation, xbox, pro controller, steam controller, etc all work for controllers
I swap from ps4 controller to pro controller depending but even ps3 can be picked up
The thing with a toggle to reduce / remove specific animations or effects is that not only it's accessible-friendly, but it would also ease the load on the GPU / VRAM. So it would definitely be a win-win on all fronts.
We should probably spam this suggestion through feedback while we still can.
No, you don't have to! A lot of people (myself included) find using a controller to be helpful from an accessibility standpoint, but palia hasn't had a way to rebind the buttons (unlike how you can change which keys on the keyboard do each thing). So letting us rebind is helpful for those people- but like most things related to accessibility, controllers aren't a one size fits all solution, so you definitely don't have to get one!
I am very much interested in flowers but with them being behind Bug Catching, I won't be collecting seeds. Much like fishing and hunting, my neuropathy makes all those things uncomfortable and unfun. I started logging in once a week rather than every night. I don't miss it so I am heading to un-install territory.
I feel like by the time that accessibility is addressed in a large and meaningful way that there will be so much content we've missed it might be overwhelming to start playing again
I pretty much exclusively use controllers these days. It's been a big huge adjustment because I have always been mouse and keyboard, but now I can't be sure my fingers are going to hit the right keys.
Lot more buttons than when I was a kid
Well soy sauce shoulde back at Zeki's according to the annoucement. I wish they'd add muujin meat as well for those who aren't able to hunt or don't want to.
~~and so i can try again to star the muujin bahari for the subira quest on my alt 😩 ~~
My dream would be that if you are in a party a kill counts for both
If you shoot near enough to a creature it counts iirc. But it's not ideal no. 😦
That seemed to be the case while I was out with my sister several weeks ago. I know there's no way we both hit some of those things for various reasons, but several times we both got loot. Not every time, though. So I don't knw what counts as "close enough".
I still think various types of mat exchanges would be neat. Like lots of smaller fish to a bigger fish, or lots of smaller plants for a rarer one, etc. Or like trading fish for meat with Hassian.
I'm not sure how close it is either. And I think the proudhorn is a bit more forgiving on range than the regular ones are since it moves around a lot.
Okay, that's not ideal yeah but it is still better. I'll have to adjust for now. Gets hard to land those shots with my hands.
It'll help if your skill is high enough to get a better bow. The pallium bow has a really long shot range.
I have it, yeah. But that's not so much, I just have nerve damage in my hands, makes them real twitchy. They don't always click when they are supposed to, or my hand jerks at odd times (Which means my mouse jerks at odd times).
I randomly lose my grip which makes hunting difficult for me. I avoid it unless I need something. The higher level bow and arrows help, because they generally reduce the number of shots I need to "land". But I generally avoid hunting anything that won't go down with one arrow.
I'm so happy about some of the new stuff, and sooooo sad there's no mention of a "glider" for adjusting lights(etc), motion sickness/vertigo related stuff, or that the trees will be moveable 😩
Yesterday my ADHD took full control over me, and I planted all of my tree seeds 🤣 it looks god awful 🤣 I'm hoping it'll also be good when they fix the controller issue on pc, so I can try that out 😍
Actually in the update they mention new decor for trees and plants, so I think we won't just have planted trees anymore
Doesn't help the current trees but if we can just use decor trees we won't need to plant anymore
I tried reading that paragraph several times, so did my friend. And we both landed on this understanding: you can plant trees and stop them on any growth stage you like. You can plant flowers, and when fully grown, the flowers can be rearranged..
But if there'll be decor trees, that will be amazing!
I could have misunderstood, oof. Hopefully not.
I'm hoping that you got it right will! And that me and my friend just had a poor comprehension moment!!! 😅
If nothing else you can always chop some trees down and plant new ones to freeze at other stages for variety.
If you can spook the critter, you should get the loot even without firing a single arrow.
Yeah it would count as an interaction and put you on the aggro table technically. :|a
To explain it in non mmo terms: it's aware of you so you count as having interacted with it.
Unfortunately they're not guaranteed to drop seeds though
But yeah, the way I read it they confirmed the flowers would be movable but didn't say anything about the trees, so I'm going to assume the trees aren't movable since they didn't explicitly say it, and hope they will be movable
Just wanted to share that I've been raising accessibility concerns about the stuff mentioned in the dev update, so hopefully we'll have more detail and clarity in the patch notes and ideally they'll address some of those concerns. As usual, I can't promise anything--I am not S6. But I'm putting the hopes into the universe and we'll see if it manifests.
They would have to rework how the trees on the plot work to be able to do the stopping growth at different stages so lets hope so.
You know, really there's so many accessibility issues that we all have from such vaired sources, all we can really do is just throw everything at them and hope some stick.
Any changes are a W
I really hope we can move them like the flowers. Otherwise it's still going to be a massive pain to landscape. And moreso now if we have to not just get more seeds, but grow them to the correct size on top of that.
Yes, I really hope we can move them too! I placed all of mine down two days before the update, so losing all those seeds would be a total bummer
Yes agree, and I'm very prepared to send more feedback forms when the new patch comes about new accessibility issues
One thing I also do (not saying anyone has to or should do it, just that I do it) is send in a positive feedback form when an issue pertaining to accessibility is addressed. I hope that's also useful feedback to them to show that when they do address accessibility concerns, it doesn't go unnoticed, and is encouraging them to do more. 🤞
Honestly, yeah, I should do that for their ground-based forageables. They're VERY visible, and I always know what it is even if I can't see it, because everything you pick up off the ground has a completely different sound.
Does anyone struggle with bad eye strain while playing Palia? I’ve noticed this and tried to change the colors on my tv but it still hurts
Make sure you are blinking regularly (so your eyes don't get too dry) and looking away from your screen now and again to help them relax.
can only attempt relogging and hope for the best
They just released a video trailer for the Temple of the Roots update and looking at the bits they're showing in the temple it looks like there may be a bit of challenge with some (spoilered for folks trying to avoid such things) ||moving platforms, though they seem to be grouped together so you're not trying to step onto such a small surface|| but it largely looks to be walking with a bit of climbing on ladders instead of rock. The navigational flowers mentioned in the dev blog appear to be good-sized glowing yellow flowers that are distinct in design; I'm interested to see how they differentiate with the other areas of the temple. I am cautiously optimistic and a bit excited to go into this temple!

Hey ya'all, big update. I talk about Neuropathy a lot on here and the nerve damage in my hands and legs. Some other symptoms popped up, have to get checked out for ALS. Happy thoughts if you can spare them.
I offer a flowerfield to you
That is so beautiful
yay no motion sickness skybox equivalent this time 🎉
The colors in there are also very pleasing to me
everything in the trailer is just so pretty - their promo videos are always nice but this one has just a bit more flair
im hoping this means the temple is pretty accessability friendly
It seems like it might be--will report back as soon as we can get in
Me too 🤞. I'm curious about the fact that they said this wasn't the last temple, given that we only have four bundle slots. I'm guessing the upcoming bundle will be just as inaccessible as the past ones (likely a fish bundle, bug bundle, cooking bundle, and other bundle to go with the pattern), which sucks, but I wonder if the future temples will also have bundles? And if they do, will those be more accessible? I hope they take the opportunity of a new set of temples to really address the accessibility problems with the bundles
And for the cooking ones some of the recipes are behind friendships as well. (Looking at you Apple Pie recipe.)
And sushi is behind rng fishing (edit: and it's been a while, but didn't we have to have some sort of fish dinner that required hassian's friendship)
Trout Dinner in the water ones required Einar's.
2 of the fire bundle dishes require level 7 and 8 cooking. (Whereas the wind ones only require 5 and 6.)
Ahhh that's the one I was thinking of, misremembered which person we had to befriend
If they keep going with the temple bundles there might be enough eventually to require all the friendship recipes.
I hope they don't do that- there are plenty of villagers you might not want to befriend for one reason or another and you shouldn't have to befriend them to advance the main quest imo
i feel you , i to have neuropathy and cant do this current temple, due to limited hand movement, Prayers sent that all is well for you
To be more specific with what @pastel mica suggested here #♿│accessibility-discussions message : IIRC, the general advice in this sense is the three 20s rule:
every 20 minutes look at something that's 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
(If you use the metric system, 20 feet are roughly 6 metres)
Of course, it's not something to follow exactly by the book; you simply need to remember to take this kind of break from time to time, so your eyes can catch some rest.
(And of course, don't forget the blinking part; the less you blink, the drier your eyes will feel)
If they make me have to befriend Tamala to progress in story I'm simply going to hurl myself into the twin moons instead
You need her key for || Caleri's level 3 (?) || friendship quest.
I'm there already ||and not friendly yet dw we've been openly lying to and using each other ig i just don't wanna be forced to actually be nice to her||
I think this game so far has done well in not being forceful about kindness or anything, it has its own bite and is respectful of our mental health in the sense it allows us to have boundaries. If it forced us to befriend anyone it'd be criticable even if it's still doable. It's gotta be done thoughtfully. I don't want to deal with certain characters, either punctually or in general, because they can trigger my PTSD, most of the time making me irate and that's exhausting lmao
Me irl
Sending good vibes your way❤️
hi all, I'm new here and just started playing Palia, after reading through this channel I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who's put in the effort to make accessibility something the devs consider. I can definitely see where there's room for improvement but as someone coming in fresh with disautonomia that usually keeps me from playing anything, I have been LOVING this game and it's clear from my outside perspective that you all have truly made a difference. And I'm more excited to keep playing now that I know there's been this amazing effort put forward to collect data to show the devs how they can make it even better
so I've realized a lot of people dont know how different colorblindness effects certain stuff so I figured I'd explain why colorblind peeps may want bigger and move obvious flow tree glows with multiple color shifts
First is blue blind, second is green blind, 3rd is red blind (very hard to tell from green blind where they tend to pair together), fourth is blue cone monochromacy, and the last is straight up monochrome with no color at all. We need more obvious flow trees.
For anyone wondering that is the pilestone color blindness simulator! It's not a 100% perfect recreation since colorblindness is a spectrum even in itself but where I'm colorblind I often use it to explain why I'm struggling with certain things when people ask. It's a great tool to understand colorblind peeps.
https://pilestone.com/pages/color-blindness-simulator-1
As a non-colourblind person, I always thought that flow trees already have their own alternative visual cue, in form of glowing trunks. But also: if there were any way to improve that same visual cue, by all means I think suggestions should and must be encouraged.
More than flow trees, I think there may be need for a better way to visually distinguish the common and uncommon type of critters, especially Chapaa and Muujin. Their rare counterparts are easy to tell apart because they are 90% white, but common + uncommon look very similar from a long - medium distance. As for Sernuk, one could still tell them apart because one type (common) is much lighter-coloured than the other (uncommon, aka: "elder").
(And don't get me started on the bugs; I think I've lost the count of how many times I accidentally spooked & poofed an epic/legendary by accidentally running too close to them without realising.
)
You can see in the pics that the glow isnt really obvious to a colorblind person because it is a colored light similar to what they struggle with though. The particles you see there are only because it's in a grove. I'm saying there needs to be particle effects that make it obvious for all flow trees.
I agree on the bugs/critters too, it's awful trying to fill my unique bugs and fish cause of it
Would an option to adjust the colors to something a colorblind person can distinguish be useful? I've seen them in other games and heard mixed things but it may depend on how they are implemented.
Ahhh, now I see what you mean.
Then yeah, an alternative to be able to recognise flow trees would be best.
I'm low-key waiting for the day even Palia devs can implement options with sliders like in Warframe.
It's not 100% perfect (there's no option for total colourblindness, sadly), but the settings for the three most known colourblindness conditions also come with a slider so that the single players can determine the intensity of said sliders, according to personal preferences/needs.
I've just remembered that flow trees come with a (very faint, to my hoh ears) shrill sound when you're close to them.
This would be one reason more to add also audio sliders where players can decide to crank up "item sound cues" while either keeping as they are or lowering any other ambience sound, so the flow tree noise could stand out more
An option to turn on some of descriptive audio might not hurt either.
Yeah those and other players are my best bet to finding em atm, which kinda sucks cause I have to turn off my music to hear em.
Ppreciate the reminder about em and hard agree about the noise slider too! Maybe a slightly different sound since it uses the same sound as any forage gathering
make sure that your timezone is correct :]
This is very interesting, I didn't know there were simulators for this! Thank you for sharing and raising awareness
I'm sure it's made even worse because sometimes flow trees have that weird glitch where they only half glow also. Makes me want to run the simulator on some other things in the game
About the glitch you mentioned, I realised that technically they do glow as per usual. But there's also some kind of "overlay" with those (regular-looking) "ghost trees".
You can see the flow tree poking from the "ghost" from time to time because flow trees are still animated to sway with the wind, while the "ghost tree" remains perfectly still.
Not really the place for it I know but if anyone here works/studies/knows of places online I can study for more information accessibility accomodations please let me know. I'm totally out of luck with my usual circles lol
can you elaborate a little with what you mean by this?
Things like this maybe?
https://gameaccessibilityguidelines.com/
Yeah accessibility guidelines, recommendations. For contezt I work in tourism, trying to help make spaces more accessible but theres nowhere here to study that kind of thing
ok, so information on accessibility accommodations. that makes more sense.
id say think abt the kinds of barriers you would find in your industry, and then research accomodating those barriers.
eg... language? should stuff be written in multiple languages? internet? should physical copies of information be offered on request? mobility? ramps, alternatives to cobble roads, etc.
should be easier to find resources when you narrow it down
Yeahhh Im familiar with the codes but some things are kinda, esoteric? Ive pushed enough wheelchairs to knw you dont want anything sharper than a 30degree angle, but theres no actual...law...on that... 😭
there.... arent always laws. it depends on where u are. as everyone has different needs for accomodations.... you cant universalize them
Of course, thats why I figuref a concrete course on it would be better. There are specialties for it but I have no idea where people are studying for it
id ask the higher ups in ur workplace.
Theyre about as oblivious as S6
The AbleGamers Charity/AbleGamers Foundation is awesome for ppl in the gaming industry for accessibility. I work in higher education in accessibility and ADA compliance, I can check Monday and see what all we use bc idr offhand
If you are in the US - https://www.access-board.gov/ada/
Other governments will have similar sites as well most likely.
If it involves physical buildings you can always talk to your local building inspector's office at your city hall and they might be able to provide info too.
So this is technically job-focused, but it's a great database of disabilities and accommodations, and may still yield useful perspective on what helps support which conditions: https://askjan.org/
You can also Google Universal Design! From a physical perspective those are good core values (poor choice of words, but my English is not "englishing " today 😅
Flower seeds are purchasable from Auni's guild store
Controller rebinding is significant
They just didn't put it under an accessibility header
I love these updates but I’m still disappointed there aren’t any new clothing options for the players that can’t afford to buy premium shop clothing, the only reason why I and many others can even play this is because it’s free. Ik money needs to be made some how but it would be nice if it was a little more inclusive for everyone’s budget. Maybe jel could have some budget clothing options we can buy with in game money (not irl money) it doesn’t have to be a lot just a few cute clothing options for us poor kids in the back
Something we've been pointing out in here for a long time is that controller support has been a primary focus. If it's working smoothly post-patch I suspect we may see other accessibility stuff over time.
Also, as Marcy mentioned, the processing and interpreting of the data from the survey also takes time, likely months of work.
The needle is moving in a positive direction, but it is not a fast process.
Actual support for a different controller type is good too.
I'm bummed because if we ever get marriage to NPCs I guess no wedding outfits. :<
Yes exactly
I will never be able to buy that because of my financial situation and home life
The Temple of Roots seems like it will be a more accessible experience, though I can't speak to that until I've actually been able to play it. If my suspicions are correct, they are trying to be more careful about not adding more inaccessibility as they build forward now.
Hopefully they will also go back and added the existing inaccessibility (e.g. Temple of Gales--which should be fixed as far as quest bugs go, but it still needs design adjustments for accessibility).
I only have a switch because it was a gift
Did we get to keep the wedding clothes in Stardew? I feel like they just put you in something for the cutscene.
I did but it might've been a mod doing it.
I can’t wait for that sdv update to come to switch
I play unmodded and didn't have the outfit past the cutscene
Im just thinking of outside cutscene screenshot potential I guess.
And since this game has freely changeable wardrobe there's no reason not to let us keep something.
Oh, true true. Final Fantasy XIV has a free tier for their player weddings that includes a simpler, single-color version of the wedding outfits.
Might be good to draw that comparison when proposing via the feedback form how free/in-game gold-purchased wedding outfits could be offered.
After doing all the work to design, build, and animate the premium version, I wonder how difficult it would be to duplicate it but lock it to a single color option, remove the special effect from grouping, etc. to offer a free version but still provide incentive to go for the paid one if one has the means to do so...
Yeah the patterns on the paid tier wedding clothes in XIV are more intricate so they have a different dye pattern. (And item rarity is listed as higher but that doesn't effect anything visual.)
Even changing the colors available to what's in freebie clothes wouldn't be too bad. Most of the paid stuff seems to have entirely different more vibrant palettes. Removing the effects is just disconnecting a trigger or something similar.
If they were concerned about free players having something too similar the freebie stuff could be Majiri style wedding clothes. :>
Yep
Free Tier: single color, no dye
Paid Tier 1: same dress but dyeable
Paid Tier 2: more intricate dress, also dyeable
I partly just want more excuses to learn about majiri as a people since you don't get a ton about it in the story. || Hassian's romance has some but it's not current day. ||
the fact you NEED to complete the gales temple to get to the roots temple is really upsetting
also yes! we need more f2p options! the ones we have are legit just nothing
Do any of the other temples require the previous one to be completed?
most likely yes
well yea actually. the next quest wont show until you complete the temple before
I have raised this, but I encourage y'all to do so as well through feedback and such.
I explained as "You have what seems like it'll be a nice new elevator, but we still have to go up a set of stairs to use it ♿ "
ill be adding it to my steam review when the games up on there
its a bit more public and a warning to other potential disabled customers
Yes, but the game devs need it in feedback too to help action on it ❤️

Thankfully, it's "only" the temple quest and opening the vault; you don't have to do the bundles. (I realize that the lack of accessibility in the temple itself is still a big issue and I've called that out, which is why I put quotes around the word only)
Update - no ALS diagnosis but I did have a stroke it seems which is causing a lot of my issues (possibly). Have to get MRI - can't get at ER so have to go through PCP. Not bad news.
Exited about the big update
Glad you got an answer at least.
Excited. Silly C.
The complaints about wedding outfits being only upon purchase have just tickled my inner "dress up game" gremlin, and I am now tempted to try and see what alternatives could work with the free outfits.
One thing I'll be interested to see regarding the flower seeds is whether they sell for guild coins (requires level 10 bug catching, ick, inaccessible) or if they'll sell for regular gold like some of hassian's fireworks do (much more accessible because I think you just have to reach bug catching level 2 to unlock having a guild store? Correct me if I'm wrong about that though). Really hoping they're for gold like the fireworks
That would be good for them to be gold even if the 'rarer' flowers are a bit more expensive like the higher quality seeds (spicy peppers).
Outfits are how they make money to develop the game which kind of stinks I wish there was more options for crafting / free outfits. That just feels good. And sometimes just putting in things that feel good keep people playing.
Fostering good will with F2P players is important as well since we're possible promotion help if nothing else.
I told one person about palia. They had zero interest in playing after I brought up the "no earnable cosmetics whatsoever" thing..
dressup is a huge deal for a lot of people, so is a sense of seeing visual progress on your character, and the color of your tools should not be the only indicator of "visual progress" f2p will ever see
A lot of fun for people in MMOs is the dressup aspect definitely.
Definitely, the issue that s6 did was they released a bunch of free starter outfits. Most games don't do that for the above reason, instead they release limited outfits at creation and work towards unlocking them over time for f2p, so we get all those outfits for free which ideally is great, but the reality is having to gind those outfits and unlocks them, like I said above, just feels good.
like... I'm actually okay with a limited number of cosmetics, but one thing I hate more than anything is looking like a "level 1 default newbie".
I'd have been okay with having all the outfits but having to unlock the other color palettes even. Like you start with 1 and then earn the rest.
honestly, the existing color palettes arent even all that great, and contributes to the problem even more
there are a lot of default options, but very few combos of those default options that actually look good with each other
The saturated color palettes looked much nicer when the whole game was more saturated imo. (Before the whole big lighting adjustment.)
would really like for them to just... go back and rework the outfits so they use the same dye system as hairstyles. pick your main color and secondary color of choice, instead of these weird preset color combos that barely work with other outfit pieces
And including some realistic neutral tones would be nice too. Why are there green and purple pants options for every outfit but no denim, khaki, or black? Too much monochrome and not enough thought into what people would actually wear (more fantastical outfits notwithstanding)
I wish soooooooo much I could adjust chat text size color background.
I linked my account to Switch recently to testing if it was working properly for someone... trying to read chat on that tiny screen was something.
don't even get me started on how red on outfits, and even furniture, is almost always paired with purple or orange, like... could they not have paired red with a neutral color? >>
i rly like khaki :( and browns in general. like as much as i love pink, and purpl, i really do... esp pink and browns...
browns are like one of my go-tos
Brown makes everything so nice and warm. I do think they need to rethink and redo a lot of the color schemes in the game, for clothes and for furniture. Like why does the wood also have to be purple and not just the cushions?? Dye channels would help so much lol
I have a brown outfit right now on my character that I really like, but it requires having the refer a friend outfit, and even then it's a bit of an orangey brown
So many times I've liked the cloth on the color scheme but not the rest. @.@
One of the things that drives me absolutely crazy, is, when I see, for example, the first cozy cabin bed, natural wood with green cloth accents
and then I think "that would be absolutely perfect, if I can just give it red cloth instead"
but no, the red color palette paints the wood red, like what even
Speaking more on outfits; it's never made sense to me that they refuse to add even one outfit per skill. Every MMO I've played gives you some sort of cosmetic thing for being a certain level and it's weird Palia doesn't
I think one of the hardest parts for me w/ decorating as well, is that there's like colour on everything and a lot of the neutrals just weren't neutrals. I wanted so much more natural wood in general. it'd be neat if we could alter the swatch 1 little bit at a time in a sense (like choose the 2 or 3 colours and where to put it, i guess? If that makes sense?)
cuz... sometimes ... i rly just want that natural look
Also I haven't been keeping up much with updates, have they made a way to change account names or have multiple profiles per account? I want to start over, but I don't want to loose all my refer-a-friend stuff
doesn't seem like it, no
This is something I've advocated for for ages and was so disappointed that they never did it. It would make so much sense to lock a themed outfit behind level 50 in a skill, or even pieces behind major milestones. It encourages people to actually dump time into your game and rewards people for more than just having a credit card.
Nope you have to make whole new accounts with separate emails if you want multiple characters.
this is all I want out of palia, f2p cosmetic wise
just let me earn an outfit that represents what I do in the game
they can leave everything else paywalled, but I should not have to shell out $$$ to make a hunting-focused character look like a hunter, or a farming-focused character look like a farmer, or a miner look like a miner, etc etc
they can paywall all the crazy flashy costumes they want, just let me look like my 'job' ffs >>
Literally. Fashion is SO big in MMOs, there's no reason for it to be paid
ya, like the builder outfit that I did buy on Palia, I got because 1) Pink and matched my aesthetic in genral, but also 2) it seemed to suit what I loved doing most in the game... Furniture/decorating.
I honestly would of preferred (not cuz.. it'd be f2p lol! just a bonus in this regard) of earning/grinding out to get it instead. It would of felt fulfilling in that way and rly showcased that's what I enjoyed doing.
Absolutely. So much drive in the game is item chasing to show off some kind of accomplishment. This game has nothing like that at all.
Once they released that clothing set and things, that's when I realized, they'll prob never make earnable cosmetics that match the job cuz they already have been releasing some to "fit" job-types. So it'd just seem odd to go back and make earnable ones, when there are techically already some created that you can pay for
I've made this comparison before, but imagine if you played a game where you were a knight but all the knight armor was paywalled.
Or you played a mage but all the wizard robes are paywalled, just because palia doesn't have combat doesnt mean they shouldn't give us 'job' outfits to earn
Well I guess the ||bundle rewards or high end guild items|| are kind of like that, but you can only see them at home
I'd love to earn fancy tool or glider skins even if they don't wanna do clothes.
And achievements would also be a great way to unlock stuff like that. Having it also be almost entirely renown each time makes those not really worth chasing either
The renown cap continues to be silly and way too low if you've run out of things to buy and/or upgrades.
Did they ever add more things to do with it? I remember a lot of people having to stop doing quests because they already had the cap and would just be wasting it
They added the ||siding and roofing|| items recently, but those were it.
Yeah you buy those at Kenyetta's register in city hall.
I am like 10 renown out from the cap and so many of the quests from the bahari piles are ||here's this item, take it to zeki, he gives you 10 renown||. so now instead of being excited, it makes me wish I had gotten the 10 stone
On my main I ended up buying all the stuff from city hall first just so I'd still be able to dump renown at the statues.
I will be able to play on my steam deck now and I think that might help with a lot of the vision issues
I hope so. And it should (in theory) run better on the Steamdeck then the Switch.
I'm never focused because cooking is a lot lol, so I did all the city hall upgrades first because the shrine upgrades don't do a ton for me (except during the market when I could turn hotpot into focus, which was awesome)
Yeah. I forget about using the focus meter bonus most of the time since past 10 the levels just give medals and don't unlock anything.
Honestly based on general chat rn my anxiety levels are off the charts for the game. I am so nervous the game will be downloaded and hate raided, and servers will be full of people shouting horrid things and making players uncomfortable. Not only that but if a bunch of trolls clog up servers it will make the game unplayable. I’m so incredibly anxious.
Would you like words of comfort? Any problem solving? Or just friendly ears to listen to your anxiety?
i.e. How can I best support you in this moment of Concern?
Idk I just want to play my happy quiet game. Palia is a source of great comfort to me as I’m stuck in bed with a brain tumor. It’s a place where I can have peace away from anxiety. But these people being hateful make me think that the game will get full of them and they will harass players, making the game a source of anxiety.
if it helps, you can turn server chat off- of course not ideal because if you're on a good server you'll miss callouts, but it can help you avoid harassing people
😭 this has probably been talked about to death but aaaaaugh I would love an option to make bigger text/icons especially for switch, my girlfriend can be bedbound when her condition flares up and struggles with small text, the one big thing having her on the fence with starting this game
I think Alpha players had similar anxieties when the population expanded to Closed and then Open Beta. (I know I did)
This is a scenario where it's a blessing that we only have 25 people per server, max.
With the new platform opening up, there's likelihood of a big influx of new players, some with good intentions and some bad intentions. The good will report the bad, and the bad ones will mostly get banned and/or get bored with what they're doing within a week or so. If you can afford to take a break from the game for a week or two, you can definitively avoid most of it.
If you can't take a break from the game, turning off server chat like Admiralsky suggested is a good way to protect yourself from most of it, while still enjoying the game that gives you so much comfort.
Thank yall so much for the suggestions guys
The game went from 'Wishlist' to 'Play' on Steam just now. :>
Though it's prompting to do a separate install into my steam library folder.
Guess I've gotta go on steam and write my review now
You're welcome to disagree, but would it not be fair to test the patch first to see if anything positively changed for you and then go write the review?
Unless they've suddenly added a bunch of accessibility features (like individual sound sliders, brightness sliders, text chat sliders, etc) and forgot to mention it then honestly no
I still feel controller rebinds is significant
If anyone was looking for Steamdeck compatibility.
It seems like looks less crunchy than Switch but the is still gonna be small.
honestly im not forgiving s6 for how theyve treated us. i will not. that in of itself is just abysmal and deserves a harsh review on steam
Yes, controller rebinds are great and don't get me wrong I'm glad they finally did it, but it's like the bare minimum at this point
I'm not asking for anyone to forgive them--just from a data standpoint, it's more accurate to review based on the most recent state of the game.
I don't really feel one way or the other. I feel like this game has a lot of accessibility stuff built in that I've never seen in other games - using sound and visual queues for when bugs spawn when farming stone or trees, glowing effects around foraging items, lack of minigame status for farming (hit X for bonus items etc.) like other games have (though fishing is still a mini game). Auto aiming on Switch (though probably not a steam deck?). A lot of things that help me that I really can't find in most other places.
Oh whew, I just saw that they're from catching bugs and went oh NOOOo I have a lot of trouble with bug catching.
I haven't found Auni yet to check, but if they're bought with guild coins instead of gold, that's still a problem
Patch is up on the S6 launcher :>
There are things I would like that would help me do better, I think. Make the game easier. I don't do temples, I know I need to, but just thinking about it gives me anxiety.
Huh. The accounts page has an option to link a Steam account now but a Nintendo accoutn still doesn't' show up if your Switch is linked. :|a
oo.
Dangit.
And if they repeat the pattern of reducing drops a little while after a new thing is launched...
Guess I better try to hit some bugs.
Maybe the tool changer won't default to starting with the tool put away when used now? (Or did I miss a way to fix that in the game on my end?)
something i noticed...the steam page doesn't say anywhere that the game is in "beta"
Nope. I don't think Epic or the Nintendo eShop do either?
Not modding but that conversation has already gotten CM attention and comments in Palia General; I don't think it helps us to start it in here too. But you do you.
the flowers are guild coins :(

I don't go in general, just an observation and figured it is good to know since the game being considered in beta is usually the excuse for little accessibility :o)
0.178 reset keybinds on PC to defaults - and it appears some of the defaults are different than they were previously.
Someone in the issues channel mentioned the quest log being Z now ? (It was J before iirc?)
No. and someone tried to bring this up and ask (again) why this is the case or something similar, got a warning and told that it was misinfo.
Their own separate launcher still says it it right below the logo though.
Yes, their launcher says it. But no store front that i have seen, or their own site (except for older posts) mention it's in beta. that's where it's confusing to some, doesn't make sense, etc.
i dont get why they cant just be upfront about it lol.
If the topic is Being A Thing elsewhere on the server, it might be best to be very specific in how you're discussing it here, i.e. only if it's relevant to accessibility and making how so clear in the post.
But I'm also not a mod here, so please don't take that advice as permission or a ruling!
Edited to add: As it happens, I agree that it's odd, but I don't know if it's like that due to quirks with the other platform/console's rules, and I don't want to just blindly speculate. Especially in this channel, where it'd be off topic.
Valid--I didn't go in there much until the mod changeover made it less STRESS, though the big influx today is definitely keeping the mod team busy.
I believe the statement on a previous day was that when Palia is out of beta, they'll be very loud about it. Which has not yet happened. So...
That being said, beta status isn't a shield for accessibility. We all know there's a lot of work to be done and it's a slow process of moving the needle. I wish they'd had more of a focus on it (and a consultant) from the start like another game I recently backed.
That's so weird - oh how I wish the discord feedback channel was back
But I get that that is a thing people who don't get it will often throw out in a defense.
Yeah I wasn't aware of any convo because I only go in the accessibility channel lol, I've seen too much ableism in other channels to go in there
Yeah, those were not Russians, I would bet my entire life savings ($1.49) that they were just some trolls using google translate to troll s6 on downtime
There's a reason my Palia discord looks like this.
Understandable! (I edited my post to add something I forgot to say.) I didn't know there'd been mod team responses in other channels on the server either, but now we know!
Thanks for the heads up, fellow peeps. ^_^
Oh lort I was wondering why my stomach was hurting and I just remembered that I put my lunch in the microwave....an hour ago. I'll be back in a bit to check on things in here after I eat. Heckin' neurodivergent time-perception T_T
Fantastic news about the ALS! I'm so happy for you!
Hoping you get an MRI quickly! And they can figure more out ❤️
Thank you! ❤️
The flowers you can buy if bug catching isn't your thing? 🤣
not at your comment but the fact that it's medals and not gold.
And a screenshot of the listed compatible controlers
How did you get into the game? It says press any key to start but nothing works for me
I haven't played through Steam that's just info on the store page.
Soooo,, keybinding.. Anyone know a way around the fact that we can't put interact on E? my fingers are to short and reumatic to enjoy the interact on F xD
Is E bound to anything else currently by default? If so they might've locked it out of being able to be rebound. :S
That's what it's stuck to
this is not okay!!!!!! i am in pain and now i cant play
im also having a bad mental health day and needed the comfort
Yeah, and i can't seem to change it..
Not being able to rebind keys that are hard coded by default to something is not great. 😩
Oh--on keyboard we can do key-combos now. Shift+E or Ctrl+E--that's good to know for setting up some quick rebinds
I'm sorry! ❤️
I got it! So you have to click on the E in Select Item Right and set it to something new like Shift + /
Then it should let you set E as another Interact option
