when do we get rockhopper pumpkins? I don't give two carrot seeds about profit on those, it's just to fill gift requests and make pie. Too bad it's not sweet potatoes...
ah typo on my part - ty!
You unlock the ability to buy the seeds when you get access to Tamala's potion shop as part of the main story quests in Elderwood
Be warned. One seed costs 500 of the tamala shop currency. Thats a bit of farming for the currency
I may have two questions if you don't mind;
-
I assume you made the sheet irregardless of time/ticks available, is that correct?
-
If you are doing the math for gold%/m anyway, why not do gold/m (flat) alongside it? I get wanting to have some tangible number (%) per crop, but if you're strictly looking at it profit-wise, then the flat/m increase might be more intuitive
My humble submission. Wheat, rice, cotton, and corn can all be swapped for each other or other single variety plant not next to the same space and still have 100% weed and water, add harvest boost fertilizer and there’s a little of everything
bit low on harvest boost
and i would not put 2x2s into corner due to corner theory XD
Just did it to be lazy cause my mom doesn’t like to water or weed
groan, facedesk
Oh great. I gotta deal with the forest hag again.
Did I hear right that pumpkin seeds pay out better than pumpkin pickles?
yeay but pumpkins are kinda really really bad for money gardening and not that good in cooking either ...
Yeah honestly right now I'm growing them to get the starred accomplishment and stocking up for cooking, after that I'll go back to beans and blueberries.
No, don't believe so. Canned pumpkin is slightly better per my math. I could be wrong?
Raw pumpkin:
88g
132g ⭐
Pumpkin seeds, 4 per pumpkin:
25g (100g/pumpkin)
37g⭐ (148g/pumpkin)
(100 min process time)
Canned pumpkin, 1 per pumpkin:
101g
151g⭐
(31.5 min process time)
But pumpkins grow so slowly (15 days total grow time produces max 12 pumpkins) that they're not worth the tiles, especially since they give the QualityUp buff.
(QualityUp imo isn't majorly useful past level 10ish, by which point you are getting back ~70% starred crops from using starred seeds alone; ~80% at level 15; ~90% at 20. At level 10, switching to harvest boost will just about make up the difference in star quality with its +50% yield.)
so canned pumpkin worth the most in the game?
nah beans
I dont mean overall factoring time and growth, I just mean the actual price of a canned pumpkin is worth more than anything else (150something gold)
My current garden layout: https://palia-garden-planner.vercel.app/?layout=v0.4_D-111-111-111_CR-S.HS.HPm.WS.HS.HPm.WP.WT.HCb.H-Pm.WW.YBkPm.WRCb.YPCBk-O.YR.YCo.WBBP.YBBC-Cr.HO.WPCb.YBtBtBk.WBtBt-AAAAAAAAA-Cb.YROBkCrPC.YWT-T.YBBW.WBBCo.WT.WCb-OTBtCPBtO.HBk.HCo.Y-BtRC.WBtS.YS.YC.WS.YS.Y_L50Cr0.AP-BP-BtS-SP-CoS-PS-CbS-TP-RS-WS-CP-OP-BkS-CrP
thoughts? Also I'm really disappointed that the pumpkins are not great. I'm just going to grow for cooking purposes, I guess.
Yes, base price canned pumpkins sell for the most at 151
wait more then apple jam 😮
yes I believe so
almost works and unoptimised try to not put ur 2x2s in the corner due to corner theory
I don't know what corner theory is, but I put those in the corners because I don't need the quality boosts
well in the corner it only borders 2 sides so it can only receive 2 buffs so u need one fert if u want 3 bufs HB weedblock water retain
but if u put a larger plant there like an apple for example u now got effectively 9 corner plants so u need 9 fert per tick as uopposed to a singel tile crop which would only need one
hmm
this is also why u almost always want a 3x3 soil layout or a striaght line one so u got less corners
the exceptoions are basically layouts with only 1-2 buffs XD
one I made a while back:
Yes and no;
For me it's ideal cause it's still coupled to the respective crops so you can make a better choice when it comes to picking the ones you want (albeit missing the ticks/RLday variable to get the number of processors needed)
I meant the raw amount of gold per minute as an increase you'd get out of processing, cause that gives people a way of prioritizing the processors (meaning it's easier to see which ones should be processed first/only [given the limited amount of processors/ticks available])
It's hard to put into words, but in my opinion it is best to have people see the machines as the money makers, irregardless of the crop that is being used
It is slightly more intuitive to me at least
Hope these ramblings make sense
If I recall correctly, most machine/crop combinations try to linger around the 0.6g/m mark, but some of them (like beans at 0.8+) are strictly better
What that would mean (without factoring in ticks yet) is that it is most likely better to put beans in all processors up until you saturation, cause that's the biggest increase overall
Not fixating one crop per machine kinda thing, cause that drives the average down
ooooh yes i see what you mean, I am excited to add that
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vdLC5TCrcscE9pX6WySmidQKaCcW9Z7bIAsUuF-dQyM/edit?usp=sharing
Hello guys sorry to bother with this question but i just can't make a good garden without the pumpkins but all the other seeds, anyone got one that retains the water 100%?
this was my go-to farm pre-Elderwood update - https://palia-garden-planner.vercel.app/?layout=v0.4_D-111-111-111_CR-TPBkOSSCSS-OPBkCTAOPA-CPCbAAOAAC-CbTCRPOBkTBk-BkTACoPBkCTCo-AACbCOTPTCb-CPCoOTWCrPC-OPCrBkTCOPBk-BBCBBOCPCb
THANK YOU T-T
i had one that i made myself but it wasnt good enough and i had weeds all over
I did a quick modification to my own "everything" layout to remove the pumpkin (and add cotton), would something like this be to your liking? 100% weed/water retain without fertilizer, can reach 100% harvest boost if you do want to use fertilizer
https://palia-garden-planner.vercel.app/?layout=v0.4_D-111-111-111_CR-O.HTWC.HCb.HOT.HP.HC-AAAAAAAAA-PTR.HOCBkBtBtCb-Bk.HSSO.HSSTBB-CbPCrBkO.HBkCrPCb-BtBtTCoCoO.HT.HT.HBk.H-CbBBBkCOR.HTP-AAAAAAAAA-CP.HT.HOCb.HC.HWTO.H
I think maybe the link didn't copy properly from the Save dialogue? (This one still has pumpkin/no cotton)
I think you're right, let me fix that rq (done)
I wonder how hard it would be to set up, like.. a Google Form that could feed into a filterable spreadsheet to log different layouts
Where you could enter the number of each crop, how many fertilizer of each type, and percentages with/without fertilizer, and maybe a couple of other fields...
Forms DOES have the option to collect file uploads...
(though it requires a login, so probably the alternative would be to share a URL for the image)
there is a site that can make that, but it still cant make perfect layout as u want
Aside from Google Forms?
yessss
Cool, what is it?
No rush
https://paliapedia.com/tools/garden
don't know if this is what u wanted but u select the crops u want and the importance of the boosts u want and then generate
it says the best layout right now as u enter the site
had to close palia XD everything was lagging
thank you btw
Oh yeah, the Paliapedia "roll the dice" tool
No, what I was thinking of was a way for folks to upload layouts they've made (or found publicly posted, with proper credit)
oh yh that would be cool so we dont have to search in the chat all the time
workin' on it
If anybody with, like, ACTUAL skills with building web interfaces would like to take a stab at it, please please do
but I have no training and also no money for hosting anything lol
I wish we had more gardening plots. 9 is just not enough. Loll I keep having to redo my garden 🤣🤣
Was JUST going to say this after having bought my last available. :/ I had plans. Oh well.
I keep cycling through 'whatever I have seeds for' but like now I have an apple tree and TWO SEEDS for them. .... so. like. my cash crop of tomatoes? yah sorry you're going to be relegated now.
do most people make a seperate plot for farming ? also is there a image for best yeild setup pls and are tomatoes still best for money?
I haven't - you only get the 9 lots of 9 squares for gardening so it isn't very big. If you scroll up a bit you will see a few different setups when people have asked this question. Or on the cooking channel here someone posted a link to a spreadsheet earlier with heaps of info and there is a gardening tab
ok tysm i will check it out 9 lots for each plot right ?
whats the best current crop loadout fro beginners who only have veggies
limit of 9 total per player
Do you have access to seed makers yet?
(unlocked at level 5 if you're brand new, but you may already have the recipe if you're a returning player)
just made the garden im going to follow the setup link above once i get more stuff and upgrades i have seedmakers
The layout listed in aphra's spreadsheet is an "everything garden" and not necessarily optimized for money.
Peppers, blueberries, pumpkins, and cabbages are utility crops for cooking only.
Apples are middling for gold, and mainly advantageous as a way to reduce your replanting labor.
Top 5 cash crops for solo processing are currently, in order of revenue per tile per growth tick:
- beans (as seeds)
- bok choy (as seeds)
- potatoes (as seeds)
- tomatoes (jar)
- rice (seeds)
So it depends a bit on your needs, but if you want a garden that's leaning toward making you gold from your processors (as opposed to from cooking - not that cabbages or pumpkins are great for that, either), then I can make some suggestions
What are some of the most popular crops for cooking parties?
Besides apples for cakes, and rice for sushi
And I think there might be an error on that sheet with the calculations for apples, as well; I'm not sure why it lists a % increase of 19 for apple jam, when 144 is +50% over starred apples 🤔
Anyway...
- Definitely rice for sushi and sashmi.
- Onions are the easiest OP for poke bowls, and easy is important when you might risk missing a round. Tomatoes also work, they're just harder (farther down the list, more chops). Onions also used for muujin Bahari and bean burgers.
- beans (though you make more money selling them as seeds for all recipes but bean burgers)
- tomatoes (burgers)
- wheat (burgers, muujin Bahari)
- corn (fish tacos, muujin Bahari)
- peppers (mostly for focus foods, but also muujin Bahari)
Is muujin bahari like really popular
Not super duper popular like cakes and fish parties, I'd say. Some folks really like it for focus food (or for feeding to their worms, since it's a high-value savory food, so it produces fertilizer in bulk, if not very cheaply). If you make it with brightshrooms it's decent money, if the party runs smoothly - a bit more than cakes, revenue-wise. It's also needed for one of the bundles, so folks need to cook it regularly. But it's definitely kind of a long recipe.
I'd say that it's more popular within established communities than as a public party
My Bean Burger garden layout after solo discovering they are solo profitable (as long as you make mostly gold star versions).
- Apple tree and peppers are in my layout for profit alone, and the cotton is to boost quality of harvested plants (highly worth it imo, hence the sheer amount of cotton).
- To make your own Bean Burger garden, make sure to include: onions, tomatoes, batterfly beans, and wheat.
- I use the weedblock fertilizer (not a must-have) and I don't mind watering every day. The only things that aren't getting quality boosted are the cotton, which I don't really care about not being star quality as I'll just put it in my loom for fabric.
- Making the gold star version (assuming you buy everything except for the growable veggies) gets you 227 in profit, and even more if you have lots of garlic and spice sprouts on hand. Vinegar is an investment, though, but you still make profit (on gold star versions).
- Non-gold star versions are [-82] in profit. You can make 2 non-gold star rounds of burgers for every gold star round and still make your money back at least, plus a lil profit.
TL;DR: I'm making Bean Burgers for xp, profit, and focus, gold star versions as much as possible for best profits/focus. Garden layout and maths are attached. (Please correct me if I messed up on the maths.)
- Recipe for Bean Burgers is obtained during Elderwood questline. To get your first Batterfly Beans seeds, forage Batterfly Beans in Elderwood, usually located near decorative/non-farmable trees.
- Wiki link for more information as desired: https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Bean_Burger
Are the costs for your profit calculations based on raw sell value or on opportunity cost (how much you would get processing the crops in crafters)?
The crops in this case are put directly into the burgers, and the profits were calculated on burgers alone. What you do with extra veggies are up to you, and I didn't include those possible calculations. Thank you for asking ^-^
Ohhh, I see, you're counting the grown vegetables as not having any value/cost?
Yes as I assume most people completing the Elderwood questline are pretty far into the game and already have most of these seeds on hand, although I know that doesn't apply for everyone. At that point though, all those veggies cost is time and effort, not money, therefore no cost/profit in money-terms.
But don't they at least have a raw sell value that you give up by cooking with them? (not to mention the money you could have earned by processing them in crafters)
(such that the "time and effort" is reflected in the raw sell value)
True, can't argue with that. I'm not saying that Bean Burgers are more profitable than other methods that those fruits and veggies could be used for or turned into, I mainly made this to up my cooking skill, get food to eat for focus, and make some profit at the same time, focusing solely on the burgers themselves, instead of or including everything around it.
I do feel like you would be losing significant amounts of money if you did take into account even just the raw sell values of the produce, especially if you're (presumably) using starred produce. That said, "because it's fun and feels productive to do" is an excellent reason to do something in a video game xD
for sure!! Hmm let me redo the maths including the raw sell prices of the veggies needed. One moment please
Oh wow, tomatoes for bean burgers come in above rice for rare sashimi, and juuuust below corn for tier 3 epic fish tacos, in terms of gold per tile per growth tick
Finally, something that kicked tomatoes into being profitable to cook with (other than poke). And burgers need 2 (ideally 3) people on tomatoes per party, so that's nice
Welp, so if you include the raw costs of the veggies...
taking the costs of each veggie including doubling or tripling the cost based on how many of x veggie are required, you're definitely at a loss calculating those into account. 227 - (68 for 2 gold star tomatoes) - (90 for 2 gold star onions) - (102 for 3 gold star beans) - (49 for 1 gold star wheat), you're at [-82], and even less profit for the non-gold star veggies as I believe it is less likely to make gold star foods with lower quality ingredients, correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume I'm not incorrect on it being less profitable either way
Not sure if my math was right, but I came up with a total for bought ingredients + raw sell value of crops at 1,075g, and it's... what, 993g per starred round?
Cooking parties with folks running the recipe as efficiently as they can manage have been coming in under the typical 66% star rate, probably because the vinegar drags down the star rate
So, yeah, that sounds about right
Aww well boo lol wish we had a way to make it ourselves in the game, along with collecting milk/eggs/etc. soon ™️ maybe lol
Maybe soon :D
welp, either way, I'm making LOADS of Bean Burgers lol
I have heard people say that they're very fun to cook solo! and they're pretty fast in parties, too, considering the number of step layers
Oh for sure! Very doable solo and easy peasy with a party I'm sure! 🥳
I just can't get past the vinegar and the beans, personally, but I'm a penny-pincher even though I don't need to be anymore
that's just a good habit to have ^-^
(starred beans turn into 135g each if you let 'em run overnight in the seedmaker 😭 3 per recipe.... 😭😭 )
yeahhh but the xp and focus thoooo 👀
The hilarious thing is that they give a little bit less XP than they "should" considering the number of steps
whaaaaa!
(almost all recipes in the game give 20 base XP per minigame step)
If I reckoned it right, burgers have 14 minigame steps (cheese, tomato, tomato, onion, onion, beans, ketchup, mustard, mayo, garlic, dough, patty, buns, sauce), so they should give 280 base XP
but from what I can tell, they actually give 260 :X
booooooo
Oh but... if you want solo profit
Have a look at the spicy honey-baked muujin. For some reason when I made it, it turned out worth 115g starred (77g unstarred) AND in a not-very-efficient group (though with some very high-level cooks) we got a 100% star rate over 30 rounds.
Even if you assume all bought ingredients AND the maximum possible solo processing value for all the gathered/farmed stuff, it has total opportunity costs of 208g per round. Unstarred dish value is 77g, or 231g per round.
So somehow it... makes... money? even cooked solo. Which is astonishingly rare. Unless they changed it since I cooked it last...
Hmm I definitely don't have that recipe right now but I'll keep it in mind ^-^
Ah yeah I'm not great friends with her yet lol I kinda slack on the social aspects XD
I'm also not talking to Tamala after her shenanigans in the Elderwood questline lol no spoilers 🤐
do you make seeds from the star veggies or not starred?
To be able to harvest a crop, do you have to wait 3 palian days? or IRL days?
palian
i want to say yes? like ill log back on and all my crops are done or need re-watering.
At 0600 when online and one time after
Thanks!
How many harvests can we get from apple trees before they despawn? im waiting for my 2 trees to be done so i can re-arrange my gadren
i think its like 5
aight, so im at 2 so far, got it
I'm pretty sure the answer is no but is there an easier way to replant a complicated garden after harvesting?
12 6 6 6 so4 times
Does a single use of weed block fertilizer on a seeded plot prevent weeds for the entire length of the grow time?
Fertilizer covers a seeded spot for 1 growing palian-day, not the entire growing cycle sadly
Once I unlock gardening L2 how many soil can I buy ? Can I make 9×9 ?
REcall of an exmeple of garden
I usually harvest one crop type at a time, till those tiles if needed, then replant, repeat with other crops one by one
That way I don't have to plant everything from memory, just replace what was just harvested :) (if I'm really worried about it I will even go tile by tile)
It helps me to have ONLY the seeds I'm currently working with in my action bar so I don't get confused and choose the wrong one
How do you get the damn pumpkin seed?
potion shop or maybe someone can gift u a pumpkin when u unlock a recipe that uses it
Wait is this why you can request || black pearl and maws without getting them first? Because some relic recipes require them? ||
probably or its a bug
Requests have always worked that way, though; honey lure and apple pie recipes were ways to get apples for a long time before they started handing out the seed at level 10 (which was a good change tbh)
As long as the recipe calls for that item specifically and not just a variable
you can obtain your first one through Tamala's potion shop
Thank you!
restarting my 9x9 garden to 0. i have 0 idea what to do. i have all seeds and looking for max profit. (i have preserve jar, down for cooking, down to water everyday as i play on loop anyways)
this one is pretty good idk if its optimal though
cool thank you ill try it out
Here are some options that are optimized for gold production using solo processing (i.e., not from cooking parties necessarily):
#🌱│gardening message
I feel like it would be helpful if I updated u/HollowofHaze's two Reddit posts/spreadsheets of gardening math, since he doesn't seem to be playing Palia currently... but I honestly am not sure I have the energy to deal with Reddit rn
Is there a list somewhere of what crops we should be making seeds for and which ones we should be pickling?
without crafter time limitations
seeds what can tbe jarred
seeds bokchoi potato beans
jar
outside of actually using the crops for cooking or osmething
Where can I find that calculator?
Thanks!
So just to be clear
seeds: bokchoi, potato, beans
Jar the rest?
YES!
Okay thank you so much! You're always really helpful. 🙂
im doing my part
ty for showing appreciation
huhu looning for a layout for these 4 ingredients -> tomato , beans , wheat and onions (basicially bean burger recipe)
and im off maybe someone else can help next time
How do you un-till soil in order to pick it up?
What is the best food to place in the glowworms bin to make the green quantity fertilizer?
It used to be grilled fish
grilled starred fish
Does anyone have a good apple/blueberry plot that doesn’t have to be watered a lot?
Do you care about the other crops, or do you only care about the apples/blueberries? asking so I know which of my layouts to share with you
Mostly apples and blueberries
https://palia-garden-planner.vercel.app/?layout=v0.4_D-111-111-111_CR-CoRBRPBBBC-BCbABBkABtBtA-AATAABkAAP-BBCbCrBkBWOB-BtBtBBT.YBBBtBt-BOWBBkCrCbBB-PAABkAATAA-ABtBtABkBACbB-CBBBPRBRCo
How's this look? It's my 2x apple, 8x bushes layout with pumpkins/peppers replaced with blueberries- it has weed/water/harvest boost on all the 2x2 and 3x3 crops without any need for fertilizer- the 1x1 crops are lacking though, but if you don't care about actually growing/harvesting those this might be just the thing you're looking for
I’ll give it a go! Thanks lots!
https://palia-garden-planner.vercel.app/?layout=v0.4_D-111-111-111_CR-CoRBRPBBBC-BCbABBkABtBtA-AATAABkAAP-BBCbCrBkBWOB-BtBtBBTBBBtBt-BOWBBkCrCbBB-PAABkAATAA-ABtBtABkBACbB-CBBBPRBRCo
there's also this version, though it's less fertilizer-friendly than the first one I linked lol
I... think that didnt copypasta right. hold on. okay it did work
How do you un-till soil in order to pick it up?
To remove planted crops you can right click on them with your hoe
Soil returns to being untilled after 48 real hours; there's nothing you can do to speed it up.
More info here, including how to clear fertilizer from your soil: #🌱│gardening message
Here's another option: #🌱│gardening message
hmmm, folks, I'm wondering... if we put a star crop into the seed maker... do we get star seeds? 🤔
yes
It won't 'show' that way I think (or that's the preserves), but it will come out as star quality. maybe mild chance of a normal but I get some messages crossed. Thus far I've consistently gotten star though.
It's especially helpful with cotton/wheat/rice if you're not using them cause you can gain a little extra selling the seeds when you're offline, and you just keep some for later planting to boot.
nice suggestion!! 😄
I learned that it's not "chance of normal result" but rather "chance of a bonus seed (which is unstarred)" :D
Oooh. Interesting.
Bok choy and potatoes also gain the most value when processed into seeds
(everything else gains more when jarred)
Technically true! They gain more overall value, but they are among the longest processing single spot crops. If you got the time or it's sleeping time, they are great for processing when you're not online.
they actually gain about the same value via preserving as the other crops, but potatoes still take awhile (less than seed collector). Bok Choy is actually pretty fast. At least according to the math I excel'd.
Yeah, except for pumpkins, generally everything is +50% as preserves (give or take a few points due to rounding) and very close to the same gold per crafter slot hour.
Generally speaking, the strength of crafters isn't making money WHILE you are actively playing, but instead taking advantage of the fact that they continue to run even while you are offline. If you need fast money, there are better options from active play (cooking in groups, hunting, fishing)
Hello!
So palia encouraged me to start gardening: it’s so hard in real life lol
Right? I've been dipping into some baby's first hydroponics and gosh there's a lot to know, even with a box kit XD
(I gave up on growing anything in dirt. I managed to kill a snake plant...)
Haha well good thing i had my grandfather’s help! He guided me and told me what to plant: cherry tomatoes, tomatoes, bell peppers, parsley, pumpkins, courgettes…
Pretty proud of myself tbh and can’t wait to see results
Super proud of your hard work ♥️
Yayy thanks !
Do the plants in ur layout give each other the proper buffs is it 100% hb quality up is the fert use minimised 😜
Haha yeah! Will get more tomatoes because i planted mint next to them
anybody could give me a decent plot for wheat/tomatos/beans and onions by any chance ?
If it also has potatoes and bok choy, would that be acceptable?
(for 100% water/weed purposes - those two are solo-processed cash crops)
oops, some of those fertilizers were redundant because I was adapting a layout that included pumpkins
There, corrected the link, but the image is out of date
Here, what do you think of this one?
(This is... frankly a silly amount of onions. Maybe poke parties also in your future? XD)
(reposted to fix a fertilizer error)
Hmm, about the fertilizer that increas yield, do you need to add it at the end of growth? (noticed half have lost the fertilizer graphical effect)
Each crop consumes one unit of fertilizer per tile for each growth tick. HarvestBoost is a stacking proc chance. To have it add up to 100% chance of getting the bonus yield, the buff (either from a neighboring crop or from fertilizer) needs to be on the crop for every growth tick while the plant is growing. You can stack it up to 99 or 100 fertilizer on each plant, though, so you don't have to apply it every day.
(Does that make sense? I rattle off this explanation a lot, but I'm not sure if it's actually clear.)
Ah, so the bonus is not guaranteed, but each stack increses it.
That explains why i could accidentally apply more than 1 fert per plant
Speaking of which, does what you put into the worm maker affect how much fert you get out?
i still wonder is bean burger that good someone wants a specific layout for it
Yes, the value of fertilizer you get back from feeding something to the worms is roughly equivalent to half of the value of the thing you feed them (rounded). Savory foods (and piksii berries) give HarvestBoost fertilizer (worth 5g each), and sweet things give QualityUp (worth 2g each). The minimum HB fertilizer you can get back is 2, and the minimum QU fertilizer you can get back is 6... I think.
Because of rounding, there are certain breakpoints where one gold more of input value will "jump" to giving one more unit of fertilizer. Due to minimums, there are also points on the low end of the scale where you actually get back more value in fertilizer than the value of the thing you put in.
Arenvanya made a spreadsheet of fertilizer outcomes that is linked in the pins and has details of what gives what, though it hasn't been updated for the new crops, recipes, and forageables yet. They should all conform to the formula, though (aside from piksii berries being savory instead of sweet. XD)
People sure are buying that vinegar
If you do things right, you can cut down on some costs, but I think most effective means of cost efficiency require a party. There are recipes that can generate gold via solo though (I just haven't checked math about quality items with them yet). So even buying something like vinegar can still work.
In a party, yes (re: vinegar)
Yes vinegar is delicious
Since the dish sell value formula is based only on unstarred sell values of the ingredients, starred ingredients (1.5x unstarred sell value) + bought ingredients (2x sell value) add up to be more than the base sell value of the dish, and sometimes more than the starred sell value, depending.
The amount is usually less than you would get from taking all those ingredients and doing the not-cooking thing to maximize their value: turning them into seeds/preserves/[glow] worms and fertilizer — or in the case of vinegar, saving your money and not buying it in the first place.
In other words, if you take into account the opportunity cost — the value of the other potential things you could do with your ingredients if you didn't cook them into this specific dish — then almost anything is better than solo cooking for most dishes.
The exceptions are:
- dishes that use NO produce or bought ingredients (sometimes), such as fish stew (fish, any spice, garlic) and grilled fish (using only unstarred fish)
- dishes that have wildly anomalous sell values in our favor, with spicy honey-baked muujin being the only example I know of (and it still needs to be reverified post-hotfix)
lol I must be tired, that was clear as mud
I was hoping the boosted value still worked and just didn't count for starring, but good to know. XD
I don't like that getting better at gardening means you actually can do less cooking because you get less non-star ingredients though. -_-;
at least as far as the profits issue goes.
Click the allow star box
If for examplevrecipe is any spice u ran out of chesp starred spice dont want to use ur special starred spice lockbox those then u can select ur unstarred spice or if u run out of starred it lets u select an unstarred to
Its not a real problem just click allow starred u dont need starred foragables to cook with it
Not the part I'm pining, but good to confirm that works as read. XD
Real downsides of starred is u cant gift and are … if u forgot to click the allow starred checkbox
Yeah, it's a bit unfortunate that all starred produce makes solo cooking unprofitable, but tbh bought ingredients already got you most of the way there... very few recipes get away without using them.
Oh ur pining u make less profit from the cooking steps nvm i misread but ur dish star chance increases and its more then offset by making more from the gardening step
So its still better to have more starry produce for cooking xd
closer. I'm pining that a star price doesn't affect the final item. I don't mind it not affecting star quality, it just slightly sabotages cooking logic. XD
but yes group or solo cooking be another factor.
I feel like "sabotages" is a little bit of a strong word 😂
I did say slightly!
On the one hand, you can cook a food for a nice boost of focus, but on the other hand, there's a lot of ways to get focus options without cooking that actually compare. Kind of like furniture making, not leveling it sorta works out just fine. Which just feels weird to me.
(Also, starred ingredients DO affect star rate! By quite a bit, actually - weighted by base sell value, we think. They just don't guarantee it.)
Yeah, furniture crafting is mostly there as a materials sink
well, and, you know, the whole major endgame loop of the game <_<
(yes but starred ingredients only affecting star rate means at best you star a food so it at least compares to the improved value of the star materials, versus non star food actually giving it more value when it clicks. Which means non-star works from the floor up and star works from the ceiling down).
Yep
Though there is a base improvement in value even if you don't star it, and that gets amplified when you star the dish, but your point still stands
(at least for kitchen-cooked dishes; doesn't apply to campfire stuff)
It's honestly bought-only ingredients that pose the largest problem
Wth man thr endgameplayloop is plush collecting not decorating
could it be somehow adjusted to 1 more beans ? and is it somehow possible with just the 4 vegetables ?
wait wait, you either said something important or I confused myself: base improvement even if you don't star it?
Star quality improves star food chance, but does not raise the base value of the dish
OR
star quality improves star food chance and does raise base value of dish?
OR
something else entirely which leans towards the confused myself theory?
and i tried bean burger yesterday after i got the recipe and i ws impressed how kinda easy it is to make and unstarred 800 focus is crazy imo. the only real annoying part is beans and expensive vinegar , i spend around 50k gold just on some ingredients yesterday but i messed up because i dont have enough beans
with just the 4 vegetables
Not if you want to keep the 100% water/weed. (In my experience, relying on manual watering and weeding tends to result in lost growth ticks, and over time it adds up to more than the tiles you give up.)
The beans (unstarred!) CAN just be foraged 🤔
(I mean, you can forage starred ones, too, but not consistently)
yeah but my idea is to do all ingredients at star quality level
okey so just the 4 vegetables is not possible okey , but could it then be adjusted to 1 or 2 more beans and less onions or something
At this point we've gotten a little too deep into cooking mechanics for the gardening channel, so, here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CqV_SHjfqaYcGcfqg4aVp21tYZACUDNMHYkTo9Wyu-8/edit?gid=2013141397#gid=2013141397
That is beyond my abilities, so I'll have to pass that off to someone who groks 2x2 crops a little better than I do lol
I tried pretty hard but adding more bushes ended up slashing the number of grain tiles, and you need the wheat, too
man gardening seems so freaking complicated for me personally 😂
in the case of weeding, the anti-weed fertilizer might actually be of some use, but depends. I suppose.
and thank ye for cooking link thingy. XD I'll do a skim and/or a testing if need be.
2x2 crops are especially difficult
and i have already 4 seed makers but it seems its never enough 😂
It's actually pretty simple, and it's that simplicity that makes it complicated.
4 seed makers laughs in 10+ seed makers
whaaat soo many
4 on potatoes, 4 on bok choy, 2 on misc., and up to 2 floaters to handle temporary overstock from when I play too many hours in a row 😂
I'm at like 6-7 seed makers and maybe 8 preserve jars? I'll double check when I head back to water the blueberries.
...oh right, and I'm growing beans right now instead of one of my apple trees, so it's more to handle those
I haven't decided if I'll keep it... beans are attractive but are annoying in my linear layout
(too much complicated fertilizer management)
arent pumpinks good too if u just want to do profit and pumpkin dishes?
Absolutely not lol
i mean isnt jarred pumpinks half the time of potatoes for more value
6 seed collectors, 6 preserve jars. Although I have two more jars sitting in storage.
Maybe if you just like cooking the pumpkin dishes for fun, but they squat on 4 tiles for 15 growth ticks and produce only 8-12 pumpkins during that time
jarred pumpkins only get a fraction of the jar bonus though. They do have a high value for their lower volume, however. Math-wise they're so so.
and also don't provide a useful buff if you're past level 10ish gardening
Not if you consider value added per time or per crop (as opposed to final amount)
You can't divide up the original pumpkin value per time; it was already there without any processing
interesting but kts crazx how many crafters u all use , i only have 1 sawmill whoch i pretty much never use currently and 2 smelters which recenrly are pretty empty too even though i mine alot.
and 2 wormfarms + 4 seed makers and 1 preserve jar
My tomatos apparently lied ot me about when they were at their last harvest. D:< I feel like sometimes my plants like to play tricks on me now...
I can't keep track of it without having fertilizer on them to count growth ticks for me
Stack up the fertilizer to a multiple of 10 and then it counts down for me xD
I use a message sign to track if I don't feel like doing it on an excel sheet.
also because I find laying all the fertilizer per tile maddening on smaller plants. Unless there's a volume trick I'm not aware of for mass laying down fertilizer?
I use a set of 4 candles to track my apples, but I still sometimes forget to light them
candles is a nice touch. I may consider that one.
Not really, other than using an autoclicker or (what I do) add an additional keybind for "use action bar item" so I can spam a keyboard key instead of a mouse click
For the most part, though, once you've got it laid down, it's just topping it up regularly, which is much fewer clicks
My crops are never going to go long enough to chew through 99 fertilizer, but I put that much on my crops anyway. That way it stops adding itself when I re-up it, and then the numbers stay neat lol
Fair enough! I think I learned that complete plants you don't harvest still eat those if you leave them on extra days as a side note.
Only if you're away from home but online for an extended period
On the upside... multiharvest plants keep accumulating growth ticks when that happens!
I've gotten 3 harvests off of one tomato plant all at once before when I was on a fishing spree lol
Oh? What actually happens if they got enough for another harvest? waits a day or multi-grab?
and got answer. XD
Future response: that's the power of edit (if used responsibly)
Multi-grab (this slowmode is killing me argh)
but yes, that is the downside of the fertilizer checks being done the way they are
(i.e., when you arrive home, it seems like it does the "how many growth ticks was it" calculation, then subtracts fertilizer, then goes "is it done?")
Although a small perk to fertilizer on 2x2 or 3x3 crops is it autoapplies to all of them, so that's a little more sane if you use it.
I have found I'm always returning home at least once within a day to drop off my findings, so watering is usually not a real problem for me. Or i use stable travel with that ease of 10 gp.
I am not good at keeping track of time, even when I am physically at home and staring at my garden
with an audio cue reminder, even! lol
Pomodoro it and set a timer? Phone alarm menace.
If you don't mind the extra work and the "MUST be home to water or else," then that opens up a lot of options, if you have the Keeping Track Of Time superpower 😉
some poeple specifically request layouts without any water retain cuz they lik watering so much
I'm pretty good with that one, yes! With at least an exquisite can, watering the whole field is maybe 9 clicks and only 21 gp in expense compared to 162 gp and back bending manure. @_@
but if you know you might miss a click, using the fertilizer as backup can be useful.
but if you are using some hydrating crops, you can also strategically water too.
...and off topic I somehow disabled my aiming ability with bow by tweaking a keybinding. Even though I didn't do anything to right click. ^^; XD
(and solved it. Not sure how that got changed, but okay!)
Okay, so hear me out... this is hideous, but: https://palia-garden-planner.vercel.app/?layout=v0.4_D-111-111-111_CR-O.YW.YW.YO.WBtBtT.YBtBt-O.WW.YW.YT.YBtBtO.WBtBt-O.YO.WT.YO.WBt.HBt.HT.YBt.HBt.H-O.WW.YW.YO.WBtBtT.YBtBt-O.YW.YW.YO.WBtBtT.YBtBt-O.WO.WT.YO.WBt.HBt.HT.YBt.HBt.H-T.YW.WW.YO.WBtBtT.YBtBt-O.WW.YW.YO.WBtBtT.YBtBt-O.WO.WT.YO.WBt.HBt.HT.YBt.HBt.H_D180L25Cr0.Bt.S-R.S-RS3
It almost works? 😂
slight bean and wheat surplus
(proportional to the recipe)
Not bad
I'm pretty sure JMG is planning to cook them all up into burgers XD but that's good to know, too
Mmmmmmm, I do love me a tasty burger!
CHeck for pickles under the tongue after. >_>
one thing i wish would be the case is that the plant giving the benifit (like water retention) worked on itself as well and not just its neighbors
Bean burgers at 782g per round average (assuming 66 percent star rate), minus 600g per round to buy vinegar (and more for egg, oil, milk, garlic, sprouts, which I don't feel like adding up), so let's say 100g net per round just to be generous...
12 growth ticks gets you 75ish rounds of solo burgers (though why 12? cuts off a bunch of harvests - imo better to use 180, or at least the least common multiple)
so 12 growth ticks on that layout is 7500g of burgers, plus solo processing the excess crops (24 wheat at 74g in seeds is 1.7k, plus 92 beans at 135g in seeds is 12.4k)
Total revenue from solo burger layout: 21,600g, approximately
And more than half of that was extra beans processed into seeds.
Hydrate fertilizer is pretty cheap (2gp a piece). You could technically dot your hydrating plants with it, whcih will make sure they hydrate the rest in turn, at least if you're away for extended periods.
Yeah, that's why it's called companion planting, haha
No Tomato is an Island... or something
See, it's the
minus 600g per round for vinegar
that just kills me, ngl
someday I'll do that focus per tile per tick math
cracks me up that you get 3x the gold by solo processing instead of solo cooking
I mean, both can be options, but aye. XD
Focus per tile hmm? I do have gp per tile per crop, but focus seems a bit more subjective.
Or I'm misunderstanding focus here.
holy hell that is absolulety amazing
Or at least aswell on the same type i want my monoculture xd
for me personally i really dont care about profit that much and i dont care about preserving items as much , i care about basicially having infinite supplies for my most used food which will be burgers and the other ingrediants ill buy even though it is a bit expensive , like i said i spend around 30 to 35k gold for cooking 40 burgers , when i have enough harvested vegetables my plan is to cook once a week around 100 times the burger (so 300 burgers total) which will cost me around idk 60 to 70k gold for the igrendients u need to buy. but i make around that amount of money per evening
My only issue is lack of beans lol
Hey im looking for the person who made this infographic. Does anyone know who made it and if theyve made an updated one?
I have this same graph saved on my phone so I went looking for it
They are u/HollowofHaze on reddit, but it does not seem like there has been an update for the infograph
I found that person as well but i only found an early version, i couldnt even find this exact one
If you go through their posts, this exact one is a little further down than the early version
There is a gold tracker i found to be helpful as well on https://www.paliatracker.com/gold-profit
Lol oops. Guess my blindness is showing 😂. I seen the gold tracker as well but i feel like the profit is not worth the double processing
has anyone came up with a new layout with all the crops? i like using and having a bit of everything unfortunately lol
I haven't obtained pumpkin seeds yet, but will soon
yeay and mine is only second best 😦 i keep forgetting what hte best looks like cuz i forgot to copy it
pumpkins are also not really worht it unles ur really like supplying them for their dishes
so u could do pumpkins instead of peppers for a few runs to get more actually usefull crops
😈 and stolen i mean ty for supplying that
I made the garden layout database survey but I don't know if I will have the energy to maintain it
I haven't even put my own collected layouts in yet lol
y'know we could probably save ourselves a Lot of data entry if we could either parse the planner URL directly and/or if the planner could maybe output something importable 👀
this still feels like a kludge, though
I feel like it needs a frontend, but that is far beyond my current skill set, unless anybody knows something more or less out of the box that could work
i only know how to make layouts ...
Am i crazy or is fertilizer stacking not visible? I put a bunch of harvest boost and i dont see numbers just “harvest boost”
Shouldn’t i see “harvest boost 99” for example?
You can't see it until you have max and can't put no more
You can see it. It means it's getting harvest boost from a plant
If there isn't a number, that means that that plant is getting the harvest boost buff from a neighbor (...oh my god I had to retype that like four times, "harvest boof - wait")
The buff from the neighbor will prevent the fertilizer from being consumed, but it's still there in the soil.
That’s what i thought but the soil was bare before i put it on so im very confused lol
Unless harvest boosted plants have no animation and im really dumb and wasted a bunch of fertilizer?
Wtf why cant I move my garden plots?
If there is active plant it cant move.
The apple tree can be moved just fine tho. I have multiple 1x2 plots that cant be moved
Sometimes group moving works, sometimes not.
Magic!
They have a swirly animation on them - or, rather, they do IF they have Harvest Boost fertilizer on them
There is no visual indication of the buffs from neighboring crops other than the list when you inspect the garden
...I feel like this still might not be answering your question, though
This crap is actually making my blood pressure rise. My poor asymmetrical garden
I checked with some other crops and i think it was a visual bug. The counter is going up now lol
do you have any 2x2 straddling two garden plots?
what level gardening do you get guaranteed star crops from star seeds? i remember hearing there was a point but not what it was 🤦
I'm going to assume pretty high in general versus early.
level 25 is the guaranteed star crop from star seed
but you may start seeing it earlier than that, i think around 15-20
cool beans, thanks
ive been using quality fertilizer in the mean time so good to know when i can stop bothering. Soon... gloriously soon.
i had no idea this was a thing!!!! ive been making fertiliser when i havent needed to for 30 levels!!!! i feel so stupid now lol
hahahaaa im so sorry and you are welcome?
I think it'd be neat if it rained on your plot on occasion and watered your stuff for you
does gardening level affect star crop chance?
Situational
Can I stack fertilizers on a single seed plot for multiple days of use or do I have to do it single use each day?
and just so you know at level 38 (guaranteed at level 50) you'll get star crops from regular seeds as well
you can stack up to 99 on a single plant
does anybody have the best crop layout?
Thank you and I'm guessing it'll stay in the seed plot even after the crop is harvested?
depends on your playstyle what the best layout is. i run a 4 apple tree with 100% water/weed/harvest boosts but only harvest the apples and everything else is in the ground. if you're more interested in participating in cooking events, the layout would be set up more for that cooking party
im just looking for automation and profit.
can i see ur layout?
thanks to duhscape for the layout
if you just harvest the apples to make jams then you don't need to worry about the harvest boosts in the corners and what not
tqtq
I'm trying to figure out a farm set up that would allow me to make apple jam and also cook focus food consistently. Anyone have any suggestions?
the layout that i posted above is great for apple jam. you get 96 apples per harvest and can use the excess to make petite fives (400/600) for focus foods (though you will need to buy ingredients from zeki). it's also 100% water/weed and harvest boosted (with minimal fertilizers)
Huh, I'll have to give it a look over. Thanks!
can also swap out same buff items with each other if need other items
If I leave a plot with wheat seeds in the corner and never water it, will it continue to give the yield boost to the two adjacent spaces indefinitely?
Siiick! Ty!
Fun element, I think completed crops can sometimes grow weeds too, so even if you don't pick it potential free money while it sits there.
having 9 weeds stops all plants from saving that they grown
Well, I presume you pick them the moment they grow, but good to know mass weeds has another effect. O_o;
like theres some error in saving that they grown so when ur on ur plot at growthtick u see em grow leave plot or logout come back and they are one step back again
unless u harvest somethign water weed or add fert to manually save it
For now, I'll pretend to call that a feature.
Hey guys, hope everyone's well. I'm looking for a garden layout that focuses on profit because I'm low on the monies, no weed block or water retain because I like tending to my crops, and has some cotton just so I can craft fabric. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks ❤️
how many growthticks do u do per day?
This will probably sound ignorant, but I'm new, what are growth ticks?
A Palian day, aka 1 hour (6am Palia time is day reset)
growth tics are basically the growth rate of the crops to harvest. a growth tic happens every hour that you are online (at 6am) and it increases the stage of the crop by one. for example, apples have 12 growth tics before first harvest, then 6 more growth tics to the next harvest times 3 (12-6-6-6). bok choy has three growth ticks to harvest, ect. ect
Last question gardening gurus: what if I plant seeds at or just before 5:59AM, does it then count as a day when the growth ticks thing happens at 6AM?
yeay if u can water it in the 1palian minute XD
Hey all new player here, on like my 2nd week of palia, whats a good layout for my farm to maximize gold? as im upgrading more skills the money is becoming harder to maintain, alot of what i see is for 9x9 but dont quite have those yet, still on the 6x6, and still unsure what seeds to prioritize , ive been doing alot of cotton for fabric
gardening level?
just hit 5 and bought the seed collector
ok so star chance goes up with level so u need quality up still
how much do u hate using fertiliser on a rate of 1-10
honestly dont mind it, i got both the normal worm farm and the glow so been getting it from there
i coudl send the no weedblock ones as u wont need to muhc fertiliser and if u check back its way easier to replant XD
u could swap cabbage for tomatoes
theres also sqaure variants but thsoe take more fertiliser due to trheir pattern being broken more often
this actually may be a dumb question, does the crop boosts only affect crops for the plot its on or will it affect the crop next to it if its on a different plot side by side
of the soils are snapped it gives it to the tiles there aswell in + driectly adjacent aslong as not exct same plant type and sadly not itself
ok that helps alot thank you again
@sour dust
Hello! Trigger alert: noob question.
Currently following guides with various gardening layouts. Do I wait for everything to grow and then harvest it all at once, or do I harvest it as it grows & replant it immediatelly?
fyi Using a very basic one from like a year+ old guide. xD
Are peppers better money, or are tomatoes better money?
peppers are awfull aside from cooking in some dishes
either is fine u would get more yield if u harvest and reseed asap also that one is really a bit outddated XD
Oh, looks like a variant on the Khan the Windseeker's Bullseye layout.
If you swap the rice on the corners for the potato on the inside corners, it's a lot better!
(I'm not sure why the potatoes and rice are where they are, on that one... baffling)
Or, actually, hm, why isn't this one 100% weed/water? something is funky somewhere
I'm down to using another similar layout if you have a recommendation. Bonus points if it has cotton in it. I'm too tired to be figuring stuff out.
Here's the other version of the bullseye: #🌱│gardening message
Do you need cotton for fabric or for the buff?
Fabric ^^
Since they changed fabric to cost 2 cotton apiece, you now actually grow more cotton per tile per growth tick by growing any of the cash crops (and then buying fabric from the furniture store register) than you do by actually growing cotton.
So I would actually recommend that you not grow cotton unless you need raw cotton specifically for something
Ty I'll just grow some for dishes then
is there a cap when you go offline?
I thought of just spamming apple seeds w/ WeedProt+WaterReten, but it seems like that wouldn't work?
Growthticks are at paliantime 0600 when online and one time after
oh thanks, I guess my apple plan wont work unless I go online every hour
I mean log in right before grethtick stay till after can make it every 2h but yes
Hi! Is there any way to remove plants that are already planted? Not move, remove them.
right click with the hoe on the plant you want to remove i think
OMG wait that worked! Do I lose the plant/seed or does it go back to inventory?
Also, why doesn't it work with a controller
maybe the "right click" is not bound to a buttton - idk i do not polay with a controller ^^
It is! Sorry I just figured it out. On the Xbox controller it's press and hold X . I guess whatever button you use to eat
is there a "best crop" to grow for leveling and/or money farming? just starting to work on it, only level 2 with it
You lose the crop and seed if you remove it forcefully.
Generally i think the more advanced give more... but as they usually take longer to grow it may even out. Really as long as you are growing full tilt you will gain levels steadily. 9 plots is the limit so max thay out first if you can. Just be careful about storage bloat!
thanks! my storage is full to bursting already from all the wood and stone I got from clearing my plot xD I'll have to make more storage regardless probably. I'm sure I'll find a use for all this wood and stone at some point, I only just finished doing main story stuff so I'm just now ACTUALLY exploring the rest of what the game has to offer.
Sapwood is extremely easy to get so i suggest trimming to like 100 planks and 100 wood. For stone similar logic, but if you got a glass kiln you can convert the spare stone to glass for a decent profit and space gain.
Yes, it evens out. All crops give 4 base XP per tile per growth tick :)
The current cash crops for solo processing are beans, bok choy, potatoes, tomatoes, and rice. Beans come into their full potential once you unlock the seed collector at level 5.
cabbage, peppers, pumpkins, and blueberries are utility crops for cooking (though peppers and berries can be used at for-profit cooking parties)
Everything else falls somewhere in the middle. (I recommend onions as your second weed prevention crop as they have more uses in for-profit and focus food cooking.)
Leveling tips here: #🌱│gardening message
i recommend onions as second weedblock so u dont have to harvest so much plush they got uses unles u want things to sync more then carrots bokchoi is king of hte weedblock
To add to beans, the star version makes great food in the crop preserver, about 270 focus each if i recall correctly
Yeah, canned beans are definitely the least-bad option if you need to eat your preserves/would rather not cook
Assuming you can get the volume you need, but being able to forage them helps
Which these days i dont feel like cooking lol
True, once you get them, seed process em and plant at least 4, should be set to self provide from then on
Dumb question but I haven’t played in months and now I have the pumpkin stew recipe but how do I get pumpkins?!
if you continue the main quest lines through elderwoods, tamala will open up a shop herself and you can buy the pumpkin seeds there
anyone knows a good way to level up gardening faster? ive been playing for 2 weeks so im not super familiar with the game
Look up a auto farming setup per your squares, check in every 2 hours and keep replanting and doing ur thing
Gardening takes a long time compared to everything else ngl
gotcha, i was tryin to level up to get the preserves bin bc i saw that makes quite a bit of gold
same for hunting, but i think its just easier to do stuff in parties in this game
That one^ hunting so far has made me the most money it makes double in parties
i know this isnt the hunting chat, but do you hunt a specific animal or just whatever you feel like?
Go to hunting chat ill explain
ok
Leveling info here: #🌱│gardening message
but tbh Fayette covered most of it already :)
ok ty 🙂
should i be looking for harvest boost?
Which veg gives the most xp
Apples BUT they take a long time to grow so it evens out. All crops give XP at the same rate (4 XP per tile per growth tick)
For leveling only, it doesn't matter, but +50% yield is pretty good imo
Tyvm
Some of the layouts show profit in growth ticks or hours how do I compare the two?
How does pumpkin fit into the min-maxing of cost efficiency for gardening?
how do i fill the watering can
Go into a body of water with watering can equipped and hit ‘X’ if on Xbox
can i delete a plant from my field that is not finished growing?
Luki: yes, but I’m fairly sure we don’t get the seed back if the plant is cancelled
Slynx is correct: you can destroy the plant by equipping your hoe, aiming at the plant in question, and right-clicking (or pressing the button that allows you to eat an item on your action bar, whatever that is on your system). You don't get anything back; it just goes poof.
If you want to compare them in growth ticks, go into the setting on the "hours" one and remove all the crafters. That will show you the raw gold per tile per growth tick (before any processing).
However, a lot of crops gain a big chunk of value from processing (beans and bok choy, especially). In that case, you would go into the one that's in gold per tick and set up crafters for each of the crops.
The usual algorithm for most players is:
everything that can't go in a jar as seeds
beans, bok choy, potatoes as seeds
everything else that can go into jars in jars
thank you ♥
thank you ♥
I wonder how high they will let me go https://gyazo.com/1fc0460205511c17b7d7f947b1f10a22
u can only attach up to 50 items to something
oooh I didn't even count i just like the tower lol
wel lnow u know how long u can keep stacking em
Yes! its not perm I am working on another plot and wanted them out out of my storage ! 🙂
if there was an ocd way to make neat stacks easily i would make a landfill plot of fish and insects and flwoers and treeseeds
that would be pretty cool! I want butterflies and such that out of the display case , so they float around the plot - wishful thinking !
I want to make a loooooot of cotton for furniture. Is the easiest and best way to just plant 9x9 full of cotton and dont worry about it?
No cuz putting a third or les harvyboost plants in between has the same yield plus harvy boost plants xd
Alright^^ Any good template you could recommend?
https://paliapedia.com/tools/garden does anyone here use this?
for some reason, when I add fertilisers, it takes down my average profit... but how does that make sense?
Hey Gardeners, If I till a plot of land on my soil. How long do I wait til it untills itself?
how do you generate a garden? If you dont mind me asking
We use a different layout planner
Layouts posted usually contain a link to it
Ok so I have a ton of focus food saved up, now my next goal is to finish up my fishing achievement and catch my first maw.
And do some rare/epic poke/sashimi parties.
So imma need to start farming up some glow worms and rice.
Any recommendations, on a layout ?
Anything with at least alot of onetile harvy boost plants in em csn be used
I cant decide between the cross layout or the diamond layout ☹️😔
Which ones are those?
ic ic i uwse difgferent names for htose
yes bullseye is super good for sure
in ur case i think the cross layout woudl be best @mystic skiff
What are the specific uses for each one?
Lol love the name 😂
how much apples u want more apples is more apples and less replanting and stuff
Brand newbie here, but to answer your question on the fertilizer/profit. I wonder if it's calculating the cost of the fertilizer? Depending on how you make/buy it would change the "cost"? So who knows what number they are pulling? 🤔🤷🏻♀️
I want money with the least annoying amount of fertilizer possible lol
That’s why i liked those layouts the fertilizer is easy to keep track of
Seed everything but corn and carrots?
well i made this one with crops that syncup so its actually afk otherwise uhavew to harvest every growthtick but u can swap out cabbage for tomota and swap rice with corn then replace corn with wheat for most money
but yes in this case all jar besides bokchoi potato (and obviously whatever cannot be jarred)
beans are more money but i havent made a good layotu that i tested out yet
How is it afk?
aside from harvesting u do not have to tend to it so if ur of plot doing random stuff and cant check back on it or forget the layotu wont break
So it’s better than the ones i posted for making money?
apples dont make that muhc they are better if u forget to harvest or something czu they can keep growing longer i love htem cuz they are so lazy dont need to do much with em
Yeah, apples are only middling for gold, they just take down your replanting labor significantly and are more proof against long periods away from your garden
Theres multiple factors that make it so that "most profit" doesn't necessarily mean "the best"
Many people here, for example, will choose a layout that has 100% water retain and 100% weed block over a plot that has the maximum theoretical profit, because having to spend less time maintaining the garden means less chances that some factor will delay your harvest- less time spent replanting/watering means more time spent doing other things that can also turn a profit
apples are also usefull to keep growing if u do apple step in cake partys or if u make buglures
this is so true all the time and energy not spend gardening could be spend attending maw partys making absurd amounts of money aswell
People don't think about opportunity cost nearly as much as they should IMHO
time spent babysitting a "highest theoretical profit" garden means less time playing the rest of the game/earning money elsewhere
yey now we only need an air type and we got full avatar of gardening minmaxers
meanwhile i jsut dont wanna play crafer ui simulator XD
or baby sit my garden nonstop i wanna do other things to
amen amen
Though sometimes playing "how much can I squeeze out of this?" is fun in its own right, at least for a little while
Just to say you did it. But that's for fun, not for practicality
that reminds me of bokchoi 100% with fert
OMG what if we -checks notes- do that with beans
did you see my hideous bean layout lol
this is hte one im trying out rn i dont like the harvest times desync
and i havent seen ur hideous layout
hello peopl, i'm back to the game after a long while, what's the curent META for gardening gold making ?
Granny voice Back in MY days, tomatoes were all the rage
tomatoes were never the meta
long way back they were, long LONG
BEANS!!!! turn into seeds
what do the seeds sell for ?
money
Is it better to pickle and seed cabbage?
cabbage is a jar thing
Ok, that's what I was thinking
i really hsould learn how to make a nice insta picture of those things so i can insta forward what ot proces what into
Most of the crops to one degree or another work. The biggest meta point is any of your active efforts like cake party and similar. So really the key meta is how passive/acrive do you want to be with gardening, in which case jar/seed/cook strategies are relevant.
As far as beans go, they take awhile to seed iirc but each seed is like more than the bean, so value almost quadruples and it being a multiharvester means it is a good income multiplier, but brans don't have a mega price tag, so still conparable.
They are used in bean burgers, however, which i think is growing in popularity for cooking parties?
i still think cake partys are better hten beanburger ones but i m to lazy to do the math
If it is still close it gives variety options at least.
It was this terrible fertilizer-heavy kludge in response to a request for a layout for burgers ONLY (onion, tomato, beans, wheat, in a ratio of 2:2:3:1 or as close as possible)
90g unstarred, 135g starred (1 seed:1 bean, so they don't stall in the seedmaker)
edit: unstarred beans are worth 23g, starred 34g. So starred beans gain 101g in 2 hours' processing, 50g per crafter slot hour (VERY high, especially since they will run forever without needing any attention whatsoever)
show it
oops lmao forgot to paste link #🌱│gardening message
😮 its so so bad besides foronly that super specific thing
Yes
Do star quality seeds not always yield star quality vegetables?
dependson ur lv and quality up buff from other plants/fert
Before gardening 25, to get 100% chance of starred crops, you need starred seed + quality boost
After 25, starred seed only is enough
by level 38 gardening, you can plant unstarred seeds and still get all starred stuff back
I'm garden level 4 . Early game. I got 9 plots soil. What kinda of farming strategy can I use with less work to get some money rolling. Tons of stuff I need money to unlock
All my skills r around level 6 under
this thing is afk with quality up buff for low levels it has crops chosen so that u dont need to constantly harvest so its abit more afkish
Thank you 😊
My rec for early game is the Bullseye - more discussion here
Is full pot 81 seed of same crop bad?
I may have screw up . 9plots but I can't afford 81 seeds
It's not bad (exactly), but you give up all the benefits from crops buffing each other, and it's a lot of work to manually weed and water everything every hour
plus no harvest boost bonus yield, which makes a big difference (though you could technically use fertilizer for that)
Gotcha
Aye. You will still get a profit, but you can get so much more out with some planning. On plus side though it is still same exp so may as well let it finish.
What to turn into seeds and what to turn into preserves for profitability?
cotton, wheat, rice, and beans I think are the main ones that benefit more as seeds, but if you want to double check that, the list of seed ratios is on the left when you use the collector, so you can double check values. Since you can't preserve/eat the first three (without some sort of extra prep minus cotton), you can't preserve them anyways. You can preserve beans, but I think you get more value out of making them into seeds (though canned beans are a good source of focus too).
But don't forget to turn some of your crops into seeds so you can replant.
Seeds: bok choy, potatoes, beans; anything that can't be jarred (rice, wheat, cotton)
Jar: everything else
^ Works for most players, some exceptions being:
- those who get a very very high number of bok choy harvests per RL day (may need to jar some of their bok choy)
- those who are very restricted in the number of crafters they can deploy (e.g., many crafter slots taken up with being used as materials storage/as display items)
Have you checked out the Arenvanya's Fertilizer Outcomes v2.8 doc ? It is very useful
Gardening spots haven't disappeared yet LOL 24 IRL hrs it's been.
oh well lol
just give it some time.
tilled osils revert bck after 48 and not havign a plant on them
So 2 real life hours
no 48 irl hours
Oh, okay.... I was told 2 irl hrs. That makes sense now.
So go play something else and come back in 2 days.
or keep growing stuff on those soils till the 48 hours is up after first till
Savory forageables under 11g or anything savory at 16g sell value (raw meat other than chapaa) all get 29g or more value added per hour
what maschines should i use in general to make the most profit? @neat vortex
Depends what you're growing/how you spend your time in game and how many growth ticks you get per RL day, but I use a lot of seed makers, slightly fewer preserves jars, 2 slots reserved for materials crafters (smelter and sawmill or whatever I need out), and the rest glow worm farms as gap fillers
I have a spreadsheet of (I think) every crafter recipe in the game other than worm farm stuff, but it's clunky still and misleading in certain respects
Gold per crafter slot hour and max unattended value added are important, but revenue per tile per growth tick can be more relevant if you can't keep your crafters maximally busy
I am a mostly passive player but get a lot of game time per day, so my garden gets a lot of turnover
someone who hunts or mines constantly may have different priorities
How to place soil?
I'm trying to work on my gardening to generate passive income. But I don't have preserve jars... Yet. Only Gardening level 8.
profit is profit. jars just give more profit.
and soil is placed like everything else: select it in inventory, click to go into placement mode, then place it on the ground. If you put them next to each other they fuse so you can have plants affect other soil plots or even share spots for bigger plants.
What should I do with excess apples than just selling them cause I’ve got almost 400 apples
you could seed them, cause you need 10 for another packet of seeds. A couple sweeter recipes use apples you might potentially make some money with depending on inventory, otherwise I presume preserving them and then selling them will net you a bit more.
Ahh okie yeah just wondered cause all plots are being used rn with apple trees and some others to boost quality and stuff but forgot about preserve so I’ll try that and sell some preserves thanks ☺️
If you can't cook with them at a cake party*, jam them, and if you can't jam them, seed them
.
buy the plots from Badruu, then put them on a toolbar, click, and it should pop up for you to place
How to go yo placement mode?
select the soil item on your hotbar and click. Game should automatically do it.
so, back after like.. a few months. Are there more crops available in Elderwood besides beans?
pumpkins. You either get them from Tamala or via a quest or two.
ty!
When is singularity6 gonna give us more storage so I can stockpile every crop type besides cotton ofc cause cotton bad.
Next update
ok...i'm really going to need to save up and buy more crafting station writs to have several preserve stations going at once lol
really annying when you want to pickle something but the 17 cabages you put in aren't done yet lol
i have 8 preserve jars and 2 seeders (why i have two i don't know as i would only ever really need 1)
i don't use the seeder much but i probably should. Less money spent at Zik's lol
i just harvest apples, so i only need to plant apples
Even with starred crops it's cheaper to make your seeds than to buy them
ya, i'm starting to see that now and will try to make my own seeds going forward
speaking of, what's new right now to spend gold on. i'm nearing cap (again) and all of my jars are full of apple jam
New furniture sets are in Tish's and Underground (and count for crafting accomplishments)
Otherwise nothing new gold sink wise, I think?
2 new cooking recipes from Reth if you don't already have
i need gold sink...
they do?
Yep! I have both of the new furniture accomplishments and I haven't spent a single essence on any of the Elderwood set recipes lol
(they've always counted, though)
should i be turning starred crops into star seeds? i dont get what the general flow is to gardening to make it self sustaining
u make ur own seeds os u dont have to buy them thats always better unles ur power leveling or something whcih i kinda doubt ur doing if u still have questions about gardening XD
On the next update according to them
when is this or is it to be determined
No exact date provided atm. They said it when they dropped EW update and something about the timeline of updates/patches.
I have heard pumpkins are the new boy choy for gold making from gardening? any thoughts on that? and I am also waiting to see if @stable ginkgo does a video to compare boy choy, apples and pumpkins. like where does the new pumpkins, and beans plausibly fit into the last chart / program he did?
no beans are pumpkins are a decoration plant that takes tile space XD (they ar ejust relly bad)
Oh, I don't think I bought thise, ima do it rn before I forget
Get ready to have nothing but cosmetic updates for another year before storage update
oh yeah, pumpkins are not good. I've been meaning to film the video but haven't yet. Thanks for the reminder!
storage should be the next update
tosses holy water at you.noback back i say to thee. LOL
toss it at sing 6 not me 😭
Beans gardens are great but the 2 hour processing means is need to run like 28 seeders. 😭
There has to be a dish that they're great for cooking for, bean burger parties are plentiful but they use up like 3 beans 😐
All of the bean recipes are 3 beans per round :( Bean burger is the only one that's actually better than seeding them; all the rest earn less.
405g equivalent of beans (3x 135g seeds) per round, just wild
imo bean burger parties would do well to split up the bean role among a few people, 2-3, and have them rotate with the free roles. Bean patty and burger sauce would probably be easiest.
3 would be ideal, since that way everyone only needs to bring 1 bean per round
hey Palians
quick question: is the max. number of crop-plots still 9?
Yes, the maximum number of plots is 9.
thank you, do we know if the number will be increased? sorry, I'm a returner and missed a few updates
Welcome back to Palia. S6 haven't made any announcements on if or when they plan to increase the garden plots. If they do increase the limit, I'm sure it will be shared in Patch Notes for an update which will be shared in #📢│palia-news
Thank you
Thank you to all who helped me with my garden explaining It's a IRL time wait problem. I got it taken care of, and now no more soil plots are on my land.
I made this for reference if anyone wants it. All items are assumed to be star quality. Seeded value is per crop not per seed. If I made any mistakes please let me know because this is the reference I'm using. Most of the star quality preserves values were taken from the wiki so if anything is high risk for error, it would be the canned pumpkin and beans.
are you able to trade with people without the request item system? i need blueberries/seeds for a quest but i haven't reached a gardening level where I can purchase them yet
unfortunately not.
friendship level 3 with badruu also can give you the seeds if you're closer to that
Is it possible for tomatoes to give back to back harvest? So I've been in the EW fishing for the last 4-5 hours re world time, I came back after that and harvest all of my crops at like nighttime palia time. Then the next time morning rolled in palia for the garden time, (I hadn't logged out cause I was processing my loot) I got to harvest the tomatoes again.
I thought plants with multiple harvest, only become harvest able once they meet their tick day requirements?
growhtticks 0600 palian time when u are online one time after tomato harvest times are 4 6 8 10
Fingers cross more ways to procsss wheat and rice in the future. Cause I cannot keep up with seeding them without the machine clogging. 😭
and this is why i prefer corn over those as a jar can fit way more before stalling
Yeah I started seeing the value in corn in that department. It also jars effeciently fast 🌽
Doing slow processing feels better for me than super high maintenance ones that I need to check up and clear out every few hours.
Why are those bean values so dramatic? 👀 Like apples I understand cause seeds require like 10 seeds, so the value is dramatically cut.
yeah i was looking at the same thing! it's correct though 🤷 wondering if they weren't supposed to be 1:1 or if the value was supposed to be 35 instead of 135?
the canned beans are also great focus food for how fast they process but with how much money the seeds give i'm hard pressed to find a reason why you wouldn't just go that route instead
Wait some People eat them just preserved?
Of 300 is actually pretty great for something you don't need to cook in a party. As most of the party foods are around d 400-500 and more expensive ones are like 750+ altho, u do get 3 of them.
300 focus nice
I guess it's a good option for people who don't do cooking parties. But I don't mind cooking parties, the social aspect is my cup of tea.
I like cooking parties, my inventory does NOT
but one of my friends doesn't go out of their way to look for parties in game so he uses the canned beans as his main focus food
i like how efficient cooking partys are
So efficient and you level so fast! I sell a ton of my meals and crops too, especially the stared ones. Easy money when inventory gets full
Yeah, and for the most part, even if you're cooking some random focus food at a party, as long as you're only covering one ingredient, you're probably (probably) making more money than solo processing tbh
For sure! I've found that many higher level players also love to share the wealth
I love that this game makes abundance a problem to solve
Another reason why Gardening is one of my fav skills
get into farming make a little bit of monee
Hello can someone please share a layout to grow all things? I don’t mind watering nor weeding the farm.
I wish the forwarded message kept the attribution to Tarina. Kind of crummy that it reposts it without credit :(
yup curse u tarina how dare u make a better layout then me XD
Someone said that planting tomatoes and potatoes would help to retain water, has the whole garden got to be those two veggies to attain this situation or, can you plant here and there? Please help or I will have to beg for sprinklers again😆
take the layouts aboove as an example they are fully water retain
plants gtiv e buffs directly adjacent no on themselves not diagonal and not same crop
I seeee, thank you. Can you tell me do I have to plant all of both of those veggies?
Gotcha, you answered my question, thank you kindly.
Just some bonusinfo. A tomato won't give water retention to another tomato. You need a separate water retention plant for that (same goes for other plant buffs)
tyty!
That makes complete sense, I wish I had caught that🙄
If/when you use the Sim on your own, it's also worth knowing to get the effect, you will need to cover the equivalent of 1 side to get the buff. And not in the corner, the sides. So for tomatoes, a potato next to is fine. A 2x2 crop like blueberries, you need at least 2 potatoes touching it. Apples, well... yeah, at least 3 potatoes touching it xD
I am so glad that there are peeps like you on here that know this type of stuff, seriously.
I learned through trial, error and a few brainfart moments
So if I can save someone from making the same mistakes because this stuff isn't told to you directly in-game, I will.
i first spend an entire day playing layout making hte puzzlegame before i went to palia and by that i mean i used the garden planner as a fun puzzle game and came up with design ruiles to mnake good layouts
Well thank you both for helping us out, it means a lot for those that just don't get it.
yeay its probably not for everyone
No, it's not. Most games that have a lot of players in it you find people who know what they are doing and those like me that don't on gardening, so glad y'all are good at that. I have a couple of friends that breed dinos for stats and colors and I just don't have the patience for that but, he does.
we all got our roles to play in life puzzlign things out and helping others happens to be mine XD (and obsessing about optimising stuff in an economical fashion)
Wooooooah does it give that all resources? What does it mean when u say days of harvest 180d? I don’t know how to read the layout info 😭😂
idk either man it used to give dialy average if everything got processed
I will test yours. 🫡 tysm
im doing my part 🫡
Dear Palia. I hate weeds, especially the ones that go AROUND the tree trunk cause that feels malicious. That is all.
that is why i like weed block crops
this is why i refuse to use anything thats not max one corptype for just plowing through it and be done with a crop or full afk
Do different fertilizers stack?
No, one fertilizer type per plant. If you put another type down, the existing fertilizer on that crop is returned to you
Multiple buffs per plant is only achievable with companion planting (or companion planting + fertilizer)
how much fertilizer should I add per crop?
crops will consume 1 unit of fertilizer for every tile they sit on every growth tick, so I recommend at minimum adding enough to cover the plant's entire growth cycle. That way you don't have to worry about adding more until it's time to replant.
(except for with apples, which can only hold enough to cover 11 growth ticks, lol)
ah so lets say for tomatoes I want to add weed block, how many should I add? ty btw
4 will get you to the first harvest, but since they can keep growing past that if you're not home but online, I recommend 10 for tomatoes, or a multiple of 10
okay got it thanks!
Is there an issue with apple trees atm? Never had problems but for the past 2 days, two of my trees won't produce apples, while the 3rd one has.
keep it watered keep it weeded dont have 9 or more weeds on other stuff due to the knapweed timetravel bug
keep it harvested so it can keep growing
growthticks till harvest 12 6 6 6 or 12 18 24 30
Thank you, will try! I always keep it weeded and watered. Which is why I found it strange that it's been two irl days, when I usually get harvest every day.
Growthticks are paliantime 0600 when online and one time after
It's been two irl days, and when I am online, multiple ingame days go by. I usually have a steady flow of apples for making jams, so I found it weird. I haven't experienced this before but if it continues then I'll submit a bug report.
This starting lines up with me redoing my plot recently, and moved my farm around and since then, this started. I'm thinking I probably bugged my trees somehow, but I'll give it more time.
Dont know when u plant stuff but the 12h and 6h gaps could be the issue do check if its still watered and weeded if harvestable and a growthtick goes by it unwaters itself (its probs just hte really long waittime XD)
I don't know if there's a connection, but for the past few days, I've had the feeling that the fertilization hasn't been working. Normally, after each harvest cycle, I have at least a few fields that are out of fertilizer and I need to add more. However, for the past few days, I haven't had to fertilize a single field. And if no more fertilizer is being used, perhaps the fertilizer itself is no longer of any use, which could also affect the growth rate, for example.
u either have a plant giving the same buff as the fertiliesr or the famous knapweed timetravel bug
if on all ur soils combined u got 9 knapweed nothing will grow (technically it grows but it will ungrow itself ...)
Had a weird bug yesterday where all my tomatoes were harvestable twice. They didn’t turn back to green until I harvested each one two times. Has anyone else had that? None of my other crops were like that so I don’t think it was due to lag
stonks teach me ur ways
You’ll have to ask Badruu, it’s deep magic 😝
I didn't count the knapweed, because I didn't even know about the 9. Thanks for the tip. By the way, I don't have the problem that nothing is growing anymore. I was just wondering why I suddenly don't have to fertilize anymore. Something has definitely changed there. However, I haven't changed anything about my crops. I plant potatoes and cabbage alternately to ensure good irrigation, and I also plant some rice for a higher yield.
free fertiliser yey
A couple gardening questions
- I am getting the same amount of xp with 40% focus vs 100% when harvesting tomatoes. It was +12xp in gardening across the board for harvesting tomatoes. I thought having more focus means more xp?,
- Also what is the point of the seed machine where you put in crops to produce seeds? I put in 21 tomatoes last night and only got back 14 seeds. Even when accounting for tomatoes having multiple harvests I think I haven't run the numbers but I think im getting the short end of the stick here.
Ty!
idk maybe the popup glitched
seed machine to make ur own seeds its always profit tomatoes are better of jarred (aside from reseeding)
I’m pretty sure that XP doesn’t gain with focus amount, but that if your focus is 0 you get base XP and if your focus is >0 you get focus boosted XP
I've done a bit of crops management, does someone could give me feedback on it ? :D
(I Had two priorities : Simetry and "A bit of everything")
Low on the hb waterretain and weedblock buffs but then again ur going for quality up i assume lower level
And do u really need that many peppers and pumpkins?
As simetry is a thing for me, you cannot be simmetrical with 2x2 crops in a 9x9 field, so I need two of each sadly
Hangon lemme disprove that xd
Vertical simmetry*, my bad I should have specified !
Not simmetrical !
But i've a question, is that so OP to have crops with water retains and weed protection ? You loose a lot by not improving the crops quality no ?
This happens when you are online but not at home for enough growth ticks, lol! It's pretty weird, but kind of nice for multi-harvest plants. (Less nice is that it also results in single-harvest plants consuming extra fertilizer)
I documented the behavior here: #🌱│gardening message
And it's pretty consistent. I even got a double apple harvest once.
Past gardening level 10 or so, harvest boost gives greater benefit (revenue-wise) than quality up, and your base star chance continues to increase as you level. By level 25, starred seeds alone are enough to guarantee starred crops; by level 38 or so, you get all starred produce even with unstarred seeds. So for most players, quality buffs don't do much.
Meanwhile, the water & weed buffs help make sure you benefit from all your growth ticks when you are online. Less prone to error and to "dunwanna" XD
(i.e. looking at your thirsty garden full of weeds and going "but I dunwanna [don't want to]")
can you only buy weed block fertilizers?
Thank you! It was great to read through your notes
I did spend a long time in Bahari yesterday without leaving
worm block fertilizers?
oops I meant weed block 🤣 sorry
ah, and yes, weed and water retain can only be bought, but crops can also give those buffs as well, so you don't have to really buy it depending on your layout
ty!
My daily thoughts as I harvest my pumpkins….i want to be able to have 9 soils per plot or like another 3 soil patches. Thank you for coming to my ted talk lol
can pumkins not be star quality? been trying to get them.
they can
Is there a way to uproot the crops ?
rclick with hoe
Seems so easy to find it that I didn't.......
nah this is super not obvious
It's probably asked at least twice a day somewhere in this server! I agree with DS that it's not the most obvious thing, much like X to cancel climbing lol
You definetely can, I'm all about symmetrical gardens for myself
But I have only 1 of each bush and 1 tree, that's enough for me
#🌱│gardening message
I went in and updated my table from the other day to account for processing time and that explains why bean seeds have such a high raw value - they take 2 hrs to process...
if there is another resource for this that I'm unaware of dw about it I enjoy doing this stuff lol
Yep, they add 101g to the starred bean value over 2 hours. 50g value added per hour is also quite high! but the throughput is, indeed, slow. (That is advantageous for folks who have much less game time than they do idle time, though, since for them it's best to squeeze as much additional processing value as they can out of each crop.)
If you have limited crafter slot hours, though (usually a problem with either limited crafter slots available for the garden or in general, such as when using crafters for storage) and it would leave other crops unprocessed, then it makes more sense to swap to preserves, probably.
Some value added is better than none
I do tend to stick with value added, though, and not total sell value, when comparing processes. Dividing the total sell value up by the processing time has never made much sense to me, because the raw crop value is available immediately by just dumping your crops in the bin. You don't have to wait to access it.
It's a bit tough, though, since the real-world time it takes for your crops to grow depends on your playtime, so whether you're producing too fast (or too slow!) for your crafters will change a lot of the math. So, any "gold per tile per tick" type calculation will always obscure that somewhat.
And, likewise, gold per crafter slot hour assumes you can keep the crafters running continually, which I doubt most players can
i till need to max a afk insync harvest times beans layout sigh
I liked a lot what you have done, i've tweaked it a bit to be more "diverse" about what i've in my garden and... Sneaked in just one cotton in the center just to say "I've everything in my garden :p"
Yeah, I keep more bokchoy cause it's more money down the line. Also I did have a variant with 2 cotton plants that doesn't make you lose out on the 100% weedblock shown in that comment I linked you
But if you want just one I'd recommend replacing the 1 rice in bottom middle plot
Ahhh yeah I saw a bit too fast, but it's more or less the same down the line, you have two and i've one
Ahaha 3 gold per tick won yes
Yeah, but yours require the use of weedblock fert
true true
It's way more than that, cause I sell the bok choy seeds instead of straight bokchoy
tbf the odds of getting weeds on only 2 specific one tile plants before u have to harvest and reseed something is very low so u can ignore weedblock if its only a few
I'm not running that much for money, because I suppose that later on money doesn't matter that much I think ? (don't know i'm only level 13 farming)
nah u alaways need money but keep em growing helps the most gardening wise no matter what else u do gardening free cash on the side
Oh why Do I need that much money ?
I keep mine 100% cause I don't always tend to my garden when playing, so if weeds do spawn I won't notice and it's gonna derail my replanting
Buying recipes untill you have them all, then it's all the house and decor stuff
And zeki coins. So many zeki coins
crafting licences receipes black market items lucky coins blueprints cheapo resrouces from sifuu furniture dye so much money needed
You can buy them ?
In black market, it's 10k a pop
Ok it all make sense then
i finished crafting slots plots recipes now wokring on getting blueprints while being to busy to grind money so only gardening it is
I'm a farm boy so i'm always out burning out all what nature has to offer so i'm always doing a tone of money (from my pov) so i felt like doing money was not so hard
its not that hard u just need SOOO much of it
But yeah, when you farm every blueprint, money must be a thing
All the yardwork stuff tou can buy in Kenli's office get expensive too
omg i forgot that exists
Ah yeah I saw that yesterday
and all the wallpapers floors roofs etc im not even counting maji market items ...
I'm still in the story so i'm not focusing much on my house yet, I keep that for let game
I'm doing plan bit by bit to do the setup of the house so it's like a "long work in progress" my yard currently
So this is my final form, thank you all for your help
I'm brainstorming a afk pumpkin farm that's more efficient than the afk apples one just because that gold/min value for pumpkins piqued my interest
pmupkins are horrendous gold per growthtick even when processed
they're so bad yeah 😂
BUT if you plant 8 plots of pumpkins...
it will still be terrible value... STONKS
What do you all do to pass time while waiting for crops to grow?
i log in to palia to collect my crops nad replant when i have time so whatever random thing i gotto do work chores socialobligationsgrr
currently it's hunting sernuks to extinction and/or playing hotpot
What is the best type of arrows to defeat the sernuks?
I got Fine arrows that's all atm.
tier one everything but makeshift grab ur cheapest arrows perfect to get rid of excessive copper or slowdown ones tier 2 slowdown or iron tier 3 dispel all the way if stogether maybe one can shoot a lsowdown
Okay i don't have slowdown or dispel yet.
slowdown doesnt 1 shot the t1 sernuks, so i prefer not to use those anyway. dispel are only necessary for the t3
yes it does or did they nerf its damage
they must have nerfed it cause i just spent 2 hrs hunting and the only thing it was 1-shotting was the t1 chapaas
crazy? I was crazy once. They put me in a rubber garden, a rubber garden with pumpkins. And pumpkins make me crazy...
I don't understand how Squishy came up with these numbers. They claim in this video that you can yeild ~700 pumpkins in a 30 day cycle.....
https://youtu.be/OsMAcQa4GGU?t=165
I'm still pretty new but I can't get this to work in the garden planner...
I suppose it's based on the official wiki saying you get 8-12 pumpkins. But it's unclear if the wiki means 8-12 per growth tick. Which would line up with Squishy's video... but in my experience I'm only getting 3-5 per tick including harvest boost.
Is anyone here getting numbers like this?
https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Rockhopper_Pumpkin
I'm getting maybe 12 TOTAL from a seed but per tick my numbers match yours
It seems the video misinterpreted the wiki's statement of 8-12 as per tick. It seems to be per seed as you said @prisma cedar
Unless there's some insane multiplyer from REALLY stacking on the harvest boost.
and there's not
well it's not that. harvest boost from fertilizer gets +20% chance to increase the harvest by 50%. the only thing stacking it does is increase the chance to max of 100%
Canned tomatoes only. Fastest yield. Produces harvest boost fertilizer. Forget everything else if going for money only
garden planner link? also, harvesting tomatoes produces fertilizer?
how often do you have to apply harvest boost? especially with plants that have long initial growth periods... do you keep adding fertilizer every day?
to make sure you get the full effect, needs to be applied at every growth tic (6am in game) you can stack the same fert up to 99 so you don't have to run back every so often to make sure the crops have it
Oh, does the fertilizer stack on the garden cell instead of the plant??
yes, but depending on the size of the plant will determine how much fert is used per tic. 1x1 takes 1, 2x2 takes 4, and apples (3x3) take 9
What's the best fertilizer to put on all crops
Came up with this layout where you can plant all seeds and get 100% harvest boost and 100% water retain. Just wanted to share if it interests anyone. Thank you.
It seems to me like the wiki is just wrong 🤔 Aren't pumpkins 9+2+2+2, 2 pumpkins per harvest, or 3 with harvest boost?
I’m going to use this! Looks very clean by the way
Thank you
I fixed the wiki page, lol, that was really bugging me
Thank you for fixing it. This confused me.
Yeah, that video made me scratch my head. You get 192 pumpkins with 16 boosted pumpkin seeds over a full harvest cycle. To get 768 pumpkins, you actually need to plant 64 seeds over 4 complete cycles.
What is the best crop to harvest, simply going on the xp I get from it I'm trying to level up lol
I could be wrong, but I believe it's not a flat 20% (though that's the number from the usual example given [i.e., potatoes]), but instead a stacking proc chance such that if HB is on the crop for every growth tick before harvest, the chance of the boosted yield adds up to 100%.
So for potatoes it's +20% chance each growth tick (because 5 growth ticks to harvest), but with bok choy it's +33.3% chance each growth tick (because 3 growth ticks to harvest).
OK farming Layout genius' how do I modify this layout by replacing Aplles (which I can't get yet) with Pumpkins (That I have just acquired) The farming layout app I can access doesn't have pumpkins on to try play around with
All crops give 4 base XP per tile per growth tick (divided by number of harvests). The only difference is how long they take to be harvestable.
Can you share the garden planner link, if you have it available? Use the Save Layout button.
where/how does one make those layouts :o ?
palia-garden-planner.vercel.app, linked in pins
thank you !
Personally, if you aren't already planting this layout, I wouldn't try to modify it, but instead use a layout that accommodates bushes/4x4 crops only
I assume you are just trying to plant the pumpkins for the accomplishments (gardening/cooking)?
Do you also want to grow blueberries, peppers, and cotton? how about beans?
Tell me more about your objectives and I'll see what I can scrounge up :)
As much variety as possible (for more cooking options) would be good with a decent gold income if possible. Only been playing a few days and still trying to get to grips with it all so any help very much appreciated.
Hmm lessee - there are definitely tradeoffs for variety vs. revenue, since some crops (blueberries, peppers, pumpkins, and cabbage) are purely utitlity crops for cooking.
I have no idea what the preferred food is, and what ingredients would be needed for that dish. Would rather have the money and be able to make 1 decent food stuff I think at this point.
Need to buy lots of recepies 😔
For beginners, you can use tomatoes for Hearty Vegetable Soup (the starter soup), or onions for Palian Onion Soup (found item quest in Kilima, no need to buy anything)
Once you start needing larger focus amounts (after upgrading your focus bonus % some) and can increase your focus capacity to at least 340, then steak dinner is a very good option that unlocks at at cooking level 4. The only garden item that requires is wheat :D
Otherwise, if you want to get into for-profit cooking parties (which typically require starred produce), I would recommend: onions, rice, tomatoes, and wheat; maaaybe corn and peppers.
(Also, the garden planner totally does have pumpkins! You just need to scroll to the right a bit)
Oops I misspoke earlier. Yep that's my understanding of it
Here, give this 4 bush "everything but apples* cooking garden" a look and tell me what you think: https://palia-garden-planner.vercel.app/?layout=v0.4_D-111-111-111_CR-R.HOBk.HPT.HPBk.HOR-OCbTBtBtCBtBtO-W.HBkT.HPO.HPT.HBkW.H-O.HPmPmT.HPmPmPBk.HO.H-CrOT.HPBk.HPT.HOCr-O.HBk.HPSST.HSSO.H-W.HBkT.HPO.HPT.HBkW.H-OBBCBBTCbO-ROBk.HPT.HPBk.HOR.H_L9
* doesn't have cotton either, but I don't recommend growing cotton if you only need it for fabric (cheaper to grow cash crops and buy fabric)
(I'm currently using a version of this on my alt)
If you don't have blueberries or peppers yet, then the pepper and blueberry bushes can be beans instead.
The fertilizer is optional, but helpful for revenue if you have access to worm/glow worm farms.
If you want to make this a purely gold-focused layout, once you're all stocked up for cooking/accomplishments...
- all 4 bushes become bean plants
- carrots become bok choy
- (alternatively, switch onions and bok choy entirely, and make the carrots into onions instead)
- switch cabbages to potatoes
- switch corn and wheat to rice
Once you get apples, the two outside soil plots plots on the middle row can easily become apple trees with no other changes.
Hello, someone can explain to me how work fertilizer ? Because when I put some on a crops it disappear after a while even though the crops is not fully grown yet ?
Should I put again on it some more ? Or does it still affect the crops ?
It lasts 1 sun cycle, so to have it continuously on it, you need to put more than just 1 fertiliser at a time
If you put 1 on an apple tree then it will be 9 days as it will use 9 fertiliser because of the size of the tree
Ohhh ok, oof, fertilizer will go down very quickly then !
Yes but if you have a couple of worm farms constantly going, you'll be back up in no time
I've noticed that any crops that extend over the edge a 3x3 plot sometimes glitch out and appear out of place graphically, popping back when you interact with them somehow
Graphical glitches don't really bother me, but I've noticed they also seem to lose their fertiliser when this happens...so other than ensuring crops don't extend across 2 3x3 plots, is there any other way of preventing this?
Didn't realise it was a thing so lost a few hundred fertiliser haha (only water-retaining, so cheap to replace, but still)
Those are seperate bugs though
Are they? Just noticed that it seems to happen at the same time, so perhaps assumed too early
Is there a way to minimise the fertiliser disappearing then? If they're separate bugs
Fert disappears by usage and when u put way to much on cuz if some saving bug memory out of bounds so not max fill an entire soil
Fert can also become invisible in some other cases but is not gone
What's way too much? Does 40-50 on a 2x2 crop count as too much?
But it definitely disappeared rather than being invisible, as it was hydro fert and I needed to water the crop
Idk when its to much but its a bug for sure
Please submit a bug report with as much detail as you can include, especially if you can consistently replicate the issue! This bug has happened to several people, but hasn't been fully identified yet afaik, so S6 can probably use more information

Yep, last link
I'll have to see how to replicate it first then I guess, but it has happened both when I've been in-game returning to plot and relogging
Maybe submit what you have for now and if it occurs again, add on to your report?
classic memeory out of bounds or saving issue same casue as knapweed timetravel sigh
9/10 that the bug of missing fert happens after leaving plot and coming back /logging out relogging after a growthtick
need max beans layout
Beans are ridiculously hard to process in time, what do you mean by max beans layout? Like, max profit or max number of beans?
Because max profit is actually only using a few bean plants I believe
i wanna tryhard beans assume i get few growhtticks in a day most days
I haven't optimised it yet in terms of numbers of crafters and whatnot, but this is my current layout. Not a 3x3 grid though haha
Not even put on the crafters for the 2nd pic yet...
The pumpkins and spicy peppers are there more for recipes than anything else, you could fit in more Beans...
interesting
this is my proof of concept
used to have the center beans blueberrys but that makes the harvest times so awkward
idk this may be alot of money but i think i just miss my super lazy apple layout
how do fertilizers work? i sometimes see the fertilizer be depleted before I harvest the plant
at growhttick if the plant doesnt get the fferts buff from a nearvy plant and it grows it pulls form it
larger plants consume more at once thougyh
omg i think i get it now umm feels like it is more worth it to sell the fertilizer
can be the case
Anyone got tips on best crop to focus on early game?
i love this and i adapted it into a pumpkin farm but since pumpkins need the harvest boost to be viable, it is no longer afk :(
i hope u like watering XD
srsly these pumpkins are going to be the death of me
why u need so many
im just running numbers cause im bored
i dont need them at all lol
the question of if pumpkins are viable scratched my autism in just the right way and i have been hyperfixating on them for the past day and a half
could put blueberrys on the center L to get harvy buff on em
well do tell what u come up with keep in mind to encalc cooking use to
can also be beans but blueberrys line up better wiht pumpkins harvest time
My main question was if pumpkins could outpace apples for preserves since their processing time is so low. so the numbers i have come up with so far seem to show mixed results. they dont begin to yield enough to overtake the 4 apple afk farm until 12 plots with full harvest boost. however the low turnover time is a significant plus... other crops fit in better with afk farms though because pumpkins dont have a worthwhile buff. Haven't even started looking at cooking recipes.
beans seem great on paper too but 2 hrs to make 1 seed is rough. the canned beans do seem pretty good value
Pumpkins got such a low production i think selling unprocessed stuff is still better but i didnt do the math xd
It will stack up to 99 on each plant, thankfully
If your layout doesn't have 100 percent harvest boost, using the fertilizer to buff plants that need it is basically always more gold return in the end than selling the fertilizer directly. (QualityUp gold benefits drop off sharply past level 10 or so, though)
re: cooking: Pumpkins do not contribute to the dish sell value formula (they count as if they had a sell value of 0g), so they are essentially useless for cooking profits
Looks good!
I believe you could process all those Batterbeans into seeds if you had 30 seed collectors and got 10 or less growth ticks per day on average
Which would net you 48k gold per irl day for 10 growth ticks by my maths
That's if you want 30 seed collectors, mind
Yeah, beans' ideal application seems to be folks who get their playtime in bursts and then have big stretches of idle time
Yeah, for sure
I also wouldn't really want to be using 30 seed collectors too, as I'd rather a machine just be there in case I need it, rather than have to get it out of storage first
meanwhile I hate having idle crafters sitting there hogging a license without earning their keep XD
keep em busy or get em gone! I've got mushrooms that need worming XD
hahaha, I get it
(I do keep two slots swappable for whatever materials crafting needs doing)
At least it's something!
Anyone have a layout for all produce with water, weed, & harvest boost maxed?
1 or 2 apples?
I prefer 1, but I don't mind having options.
tysm
Your very welcome u were so specific nice
I've been using this layout for the last week. It's pretty nice to have cooking ingredients on the ready.
yeay anna did a gj though i wonder why u would want pumpkins in ur layout since they have such little use XD but i guess most poeple wont need it its still nice for it to be available in a layout i also got some with only one 2x2 quality up
- They're cute.
- The pumpkin curry gives me fat focus. And I joined 2 parties that made 300 of them 🤣 when I get to more of them I'll swap them with beans or berries.
- They're adorable.
Beans and bokchoy made fat bucks. But I had trouble processing them as even with cooking parties, production outpaced processing. Which was a major headache.
yeya its a real shame pumpkins do quality up and arent more usefull i mean comeon they are massive orange orbs whats not to love
"It makes me happy to have them in my garden" is an excellent reason tbh. It's half the reason I grow apples (and the other half is "they don't ask much of me" lol)
But apples also get about double what pumpkins do... 😂
I like apple trees when they're laid out across. It looks really cute like an orchard. But apples in a 9x9 grid are so ugly to me. Like they block light and makes seeing the smaller plants a nightmare.
I didn't make it to that. 😭
But I made it to a fish stew party thanks to my rice, I made 500k. I bought so many rugs server hopping from that.
yeay i would onyl need to attend 3 of those to make stonk forever
It's true, but I do run my weird linear layout lol
yes htey are so hard to see due to camera angle
Yeah the camera is awkward around them, so I almost always have them in a linear set up when I need lots of apples.
I wish that we had a dwarf variety in game that wasn't so tall. Like maybe a 2x2 version that only gets as tall as the avatar.
T = tomato
P = potato
B = 2x2 crop of choice
O = other crops of choice

cna u repeat that using https://palia-garden-planner.vercel.app/
New setup today.
The outside crops on left and right can be substituted a bit
0.0
How does yours get so much more?
Without even using fertilizer too
nr of days differs
So technically mine would bring in more money per day, but... because of the fertilizer, it probably would cost more to set up
its hard to tell cuz we dont know the moneys after processing
Oh, I thought that's what the total was on the left
thast just growhttickmoney x amount of selected days
Yeah, gold per growth tick is more informative for comparisons, though if you use the wrong number of days it can cut off some harvests and underestimate your revenue
Couldn't you place the rice where the potato is and place a tomato where the rice was so that the peppers got another bonus?
While keeping the watering of course
Which is why I always recommend using 180 (the least common multiple of all of the crops, so it works for every layout)
Hmm.. Lemme play around with it. Overall I want to keep water retention. I think I see what you're saying.
Hm, would that un-boost the beans, then?
Oh mayhaps
Aren't peppers a quality booster?
The peppers already have both boosts available since this layout has no weedblock
Bah, honestly I don't care enough to play around with it xD
(you can only get a max of 2 buffs on a corner crop anyway, without using fertilizer)
Oh, I do have a question there. If I put harvest booster fertilizer on an already harvest boosted crop due to layout, does it double the harvest boost or is it a waste? I have a ton of harvest boost from worm farming.
It does not double the buff; the fertilizer will sit in the soil and not be consumed.
But it will come back out if you need it somewhere else, if you put another fertilizer type down on that tile/plant
Good to know~.. I should probably just invest in weed prevention then
Though I do like having rice for sashimi
Yeah, rice is good for gold either way you use it
(sashimi, sushi, or solo processed into seeds)
Ohh.. I also need wheat for steak dinners.. goodness me
tbh I don't think that going for quality boost with companion planting is worth it
@pure basin you had it right, the way I was suggesting would get rid of the water retention of the peppers
The crops that give it are not good for money, and even cotton produces less fabric per tile per tick than the cash crops do
Ah, appreciate the check!
I thought only 1 crop was needed to boost the 2x2
Alas, 2, which is what makes bushes so dang infurating lol
XD, I see why
They like to create isolated corners and peninsulas
So maybe you buff the bushes but then everything else goes right to heck
why is gardening, like, the hardest part in the game
I'm kidding but also not lol
Wait... so my suggested max bonus 2x2 farm is pretty good for farming the 2x2 crops then.
@pure basin
We all came here for the rocket science
Everybody wants to be the one with the perfect garden
I feel like mine is pretty good considering how many bonuses you get for how interchangeable it is.
Well, I think my garden suffices for what I want to use it for, until I get to Gardening 10 that is. Then I'll account for apples and adjust.
Harvesting is supposed to give seeds back, right? Or did I misunderstand what I read.
nah it gives produce and sometimes an unstarred bonus seed
u can use seedcollector on the produce
Dang. Ok. Thanks for the heads up.
your welcome
Hi team, what's the best crop layout for a newbie? Don't have much gold or fertilisers (no equipment) so trying to get the best out of that, please and thank you :)
Welcome! How many soil plots do you have?
Thank you! I have 5 plots
mh since they moved the seedmaker to lv5 super early plots hsould be something to consider just pure output withotu processing
