it will only grow when ur on plot then but u need to cause an update so it saves the growth if u leave plot or relog then it will not grow anything this basically ruins the afkness of doing that

its low on harvest boost and i gets some weed but strategic weedplacement only glitches if u hit 9 weeds

i swear blueberrys are the second worst plant to work with looking at u spicy peppers

I've not factored in growth time (yet - I plan to add that to my spreasheet when I can be bothered) but from raw fruit/veg to product I think Blueberry seeds are the highest profit/time product. They're not really a great afk for long periods though as the input stack is finished within I think around 9.5 hours (so longer overnight/afk workday IRL might be more efficient for something else which can keep producing)

Yeah, I've currently got a high maintenance, jack-of-all-trades layout going on at the moment, but as I get more into decorating on a second plot I might move to a more AFK layout. also don't need the income quite so much and my gardening and cooking skills are 20+ so time to focus on others

I mostly made the sheet to figure out which process was better profit/hr for each raw product that I'd amassed 100 of each. Mostly preserves, except Blueberry, onion and apple. Cabbage is even.

With afk farm they mean you don't have to water every day (only when planting) and don't need to pull weeds every morning. Aka you can leave it be while you do other things in the game and come back to harvest when things are ready.

depedning on those factors what ur login intervals are are also important

They want to know how much time you spend playing online, since your crops only grow when you are online (+ one extra "growth tick" at the next 6am after you log off) and it could sway the type of crops to plant. Fast growing vs slower growing.

And how much effort you want to put in (both with tending to the crops and processing the harvests)

Maybe instead of the passive aggressiveness in the response, we can prepare some ready-to-go layouts for the standard questions we often see here? Have reasonable ones for this question, for "afk farms", for cake parties, etc. and just copy paste that in every now and again. Worst case it's a starting point for the person asking and they will adapt from one of those layouts.

This is a really nice afk layout with some of each crop for example, and so on.

u right about using cotton. u even understood giving plants a same buff buddy so theyt get their own buff too. understanding fertiliser exist nice nice.
and now here come the bad. using ALOT of fert relatively if u need less then the fert u make u can sell it for moneys and saves work applying.
turning tomatoes into worms instead of into jarred tomato or seeds for selling or even jar jarredtomatoe in worm

u can replace osmeof the water retain plants with onion carrot and bokchoi if u need that since u gtto weed it anyways might as well water a few plants lots of quality up and harvest boost with it

aslong as they have a buddy sure then it wont make any effect do be carefull to not ruin the weedblock u do get some weeds now but not so much it breaks the layout by to many weeds bug

the cottons and the lower rice cotton belt can be whatever u want btw so u can vary the amount of rice and cotton

im starting to think im the only one who just eats cake so much easier to farm for that only need apples cuz someone else does the starting with blueberrys (does apples anyways out of pure lazyness)

but doing it in a sqaure requires a whole 4 extra feritliser due to the pattern being cut of cuzpattern is 4 tiles and osoils are tehn 9 tiles 3 times

Oh right - It doesnt have to be full afk - just the apples should have all boosts. the other just what is possible, as I know they cant have everything. So if some tomatos or onions wont constantly grom I wouldnt mind, since the apples need a lot of time anyway and I wont constantly plant new seeds.

Depending on which settings I choose I can see blueberry seeds around #4 for best seeds but that is also behind blueberry preserves if you only sell finished products, i.e. seeds/preserves otherwise they are #4 worst. I guess mine would be more for the point of view of looking in my chest and seeing a couple of hundred of each crop, what should I put in which processor and how long will it take to empty/get full

i.e. I keep ~200+ of each fruit for impromptu cake party, but I've currently got 282 blueberries and need some space. What should I do with them (sell raw/seed/jam) - Answer seeds.
And I use it for putting stuff on before I go to bed/work, so I know I want something that takes X hours to get empty/get full, which of produce A/B/C would be most worthwhile

As an example, a wheat and a cotton are planted next to each other. Weed grows on the wheat... do I no longer get the harvest boost (provided by wheat) when harvesting the cotton?

yes, i only tested it on carrots for now but it's not even just low xp cause when i did for example cooking before and then gather the carrots, it doesn't even switch to gardening

besides having access to two more bok choy, you won't have to worry about putting fertilizer down on the ones that need to be harvest boosted. which means you can get a bit more money by selling the fertilizers instead of using them. there can also be glitches where you can lose fertilizers if you apply them to too many locations. ultimately, it's your call, as you're the only one that knows how you play

yeah, you'll want to have the bok choy in the seeders for the most part, but this type of layout (imho) is extremely hard to keep up with. even if you just harvest the bok choy and leave the wheat and rice in the ground, you'll need a lot of crafters to keep up if you harvest everything, replant same time, put into the seeders/preserve jars and then in three hours you'll have more crops to pick up. unless you're selling the excess raw crop. remember, the seeder takes 1h12m to process 1 bok choy for the seeds and with the one that geno put up after three days (harvest time for bok choy) you're looking at about 154 bok choy collected

Different plants give different buffs for the neighbours (straight lines, not diagonals). For example, tomatoes and potatoes give the water retention buff. Adjacent plants will not need the water fertilizer if they get the buff from a neighbour plant. If you place water fertilizer on a plant that already gets the water buff, then that fertilizer will not be consumed each palian day. Big plants (apples, berries and pepper) need more neighbours with the same buff to receive it (afaik 2x for peppers/berries and 3x for apples, basically their width on the plot). You can mix plants, for example near apple you can have tomato, potato, tomato. This will give you water buff on all 4 plants. 3x tomato will give only to apple, but that's another story. Does this make things more clear, @cerulean sandal ?

As for the "batches of 9", an apple uses 9 fertilizers each palian day (one fertilizer per slot it occupies on the plot; peppers and berries need multiples of 4). For your apples, if you place 18 on one, but 17 or less on the other, first day 9x get consumed. You are left with 9x on an apple, so the buff is still active, but on the other you are left with less, so the buff becomes inactive

If you click on the "gardening" thread name, and go to pinned messages, you will find tons of resources to detail all this. You can use the search to also find some layouts built by these awesome people as starting points (e.g. "beginner layout" or "beginner no berries", things like that)

this is absolutely not long term useful really but for very short term it's simple to do and won't take any watering and very minor weeding (crops stop growing if the need weeding). It's not great because things need harvesting at different times but it gives you an idea and maybe gets you levelling up a bit and then you can try something more advance

p.s. you only get Gardening XP when you harvest the fruit/veg so early on you wat to be checking a bit more frequently to harvest quicker to level up a bit

Maybe this is a silly question but is there a way to grow normal (not star quality crops)? It's more difficult to find star quality garlic and sweet leaf so I want more normal crops. if you are above level 25, all star seeds will produce star crops, if you are around level 38-ish, even regular seeds will be star quality, with level 50 guaranteeing that you will have star crops no matter what. if it's cooking you're worried about, you can check the "use star quality" button and it will use any star quality items, but if you don't have something star quality it will still use the regular quality items. i make petite fives for focus food, i have star apples and over 250 regular sweet leaves and it works fine. if you don't want to use the star quality items, you can place them in lock boxes

I've found a routine that works for me, I just put potatoes in the middle column and tomatoes on the sides. Then, when either crop is ready for harvest, I put about half of the star quality crops I have in the preserves jar before selling, and another half into the seed maker. As for normal quality, I just sell them straight away.

actually, if you're only level 3 gardening, i don't recommend an afk plot. there is an achievement that gains renown where you have to pick 1000 weeds, early game renown is really important to unlock more focus, focus bonus, and getting house plot open. also, you probably don't have much money to buy the bag upgrades which means that you are probably returning home sometime during the hour to drop things off, so you can check your garden then

No idea how to hold it, but make a paper your plot grid, and keep G pressed with one hand, and write down with the other. It might help if you use a math paper instead of plain white. Then use the paper to copy things into the other app

Use two letters for speed, instead of the whole word, one letter is not enough (CAbbage, COrn)

Or you could use the printscreen button on your keyboard, while you have examine on, and paste the thing in paint (snipping tool sucks with palia, prtscr is more reliable)

You can have it stay without holding G until you press another activation button.

Look at your crops and hold G. While holding G walk away from your crops so they are not on your screen. Release G and walk back to your crops. The icons will stay on top of the crops with buffs listed until you activate another button.

Question for everyone! I use HarvestBoost fert when I garden but it seems like I'm not getting any regular crops. only Starred. Normally this isn't an issue as I can just use Starred ingredients to cook. But often when I do cooking, I don't select the starred ingredients and sometimes other people don't when they do cooking, so I need regular crop ingredients. Is there a way to make sure that I get regular crops as well?

If you’re level 25+ gardening and use starred seeds you’re guaranteed to get starred crops, without starred seeds you’re still guaranteed from level 38 gardening. So no, not after that other than buying/requesting

I reached level 10 in gardening and feel I am losing interest in the game, but I wanted to at least get a functional garden with all the crops up and running. After waiting for quite a while for a 3x3 space to open up for my planned apple tree I made a mistake and mistook the apple icon in the planner for tomatoes, so now I have freshly planted tomato plant blocking the tree for 10 more days. sigh
I wouldn't mind having to uproot an entire plot (or even all the plots) to be able to switch to a functional layout. Money or seeds isn't really an issue at this point.

the way my garden is set up, i have 4 apple trees all with harvest boost, with that harvest boost at each harvest i get a total of 96 apples x 4 for each of the harvest life of the trees (apples take 12+6+6+6 harvest life). so at the end of the trees life i've got 96x4 which is 384 apples, i take 40 of those apples to seed during the first harvest to replant at the end

everything except the ones that have the harvest boost fertilizer symbol on them are naturally harvest boosted by surrounding crops. the outer corners and the center of the normal crops squares don't have the boost naturally so to make it fully 100% harvest boosted you need to use the fertilizer.

that's if you harvest everything, like i said, i just harvest the apples and that's more than enough gold for me plus the other tasks like hunting and mining to keep me at cap gold

apples can get weeds, and they can be a bit hard to see them under the trunk of the tree. i believe if the other crops get weeds they still provide the buffs, but there is a bug that if you get 9 weeds on the plots, that the apples stop growing. and apples need three crops of the same buff to receive said buff

so in this layout, you see how the apple tree in the top center has 2 potatoes, 1 cabbage (both give the water retain), 3 corn (gives harvest boost), and then 1 carrot and 2 bok choy (both give weed block) to give the apple tree all three buffs

well.... it's complicated

if you have a good means of getting a lot of harvest boosts (probably if you're doing a lot of fishing) yes. it's possible to get all three buffs with 5 apple trees using fertilizers. i use to run a 5 tree layout before they messed with the apple jam to harvest boost fert in the worm bin.

this is what i use to run. but when i switched over to the current layout, i didn't know about the grilled fish for harvest boost fertilizer. i also had instances of lost fertilizers during growth ticks. even though i planted and fertilized the apple trees at the same time, sometimes i would come back and have on apple tree with a lot less fertilizer than it should have

personally, i prefer the first one (the completely afk) simply because of the way i play. i like that i can go on long hunting/mining/bug catching sprees that can last for a couple of hours and not have to worry about watering or weeding my garden. i like the fact that i can plant it and forget it while doing long decoration sessions while on my plot. i like not having to worry about re-fertilizing the crops every so often. and i like that since i'm on the switch, i can literally play handheld mode with the power cord plugged in, and leave my switch on and diamond paint, and just move the control stick every so often to progress the growth cycles of the trees

as far as quality vs quantity. i preferred quantity over the quality because i found that starting around level 15-18 i was getting more and more star crops every harvest. and the apples will definitely get your garden level up fairly quickly with each harvest. but also because they take ten apples for one seed, and under normal conditions you only get 16 apples a harvest non-boosted

fert needs to be on the crop always. if you don't have it on during a growth tic, you have a lower chance that the fertilizer will work.
In order to achieve full benefit of fertilizer, it needs to be consumed every day. E.g. fertilizing a potato (5 day crop) only 4 times with harvest boost fertilizer will give 4/5 chance of getting bonus yield. ~wiki

I planted last night with a 100% water retain setup and nothing has fully grown yet and it's been ~19hrs

Each square will consume 1 fertilizer per growth cycle. In order to achieve full benefit of fertilizer, it needs to be consumed every day. E.g. fertilizing a potato (5 day crop) only 4 times with harvest boost fertilizer will give 4/5 chance of getting bonus yield

From what I understood it’s good to mix with specific veggies, it can result in less watering, less weeds and better quality

1 per Palia day per square. So Apple requires 9 per day, carrots require 1 per day (3 total). You can stack them so you don’t need to actually put them in everyday. Very easy to forget otherwise.
Sometimes when the crop needs replanting the leftover fertiliser will get put back in your bag and you need to reapply. This only happens with spicy peppers for me, not sure why though. (I’ve also only got 4 crops that get fertilised)

Hello, here is an example of an optimized soup.

Note that you can replace carrots and rice (3 days) with onion and wheat (4 days).

Quality vegetables seem to bring the "quality" effect to neighboring vegetables.

Also you can replace the 4 rice/wheat at the 4 ends of the large square (9x9), at the corners, with cotton but you will have to add harvest booster fertilizers on 8 additional squares.

For processing, you would need canning machines: Apples: 10, Potatoes: 3, Bok Choy: 3, Tomatoes 2, For seed machines: Carrots/Onions: 2, Rice/Wheat: 4 and for the rest 2-3 Worm or Material Breeders.

I advise you to harvest and plant all the carrots first, then all the tomatoes, etc.
Quickly send the seeds from the center of the soup approximately.

Pretty sure single space crops give 2, blueberries and peppers give 4, and the apple tree gives 16 by default. If you have harvest boost from plant bonuses or fertilizer that adds 1.5x so then the yields are 3 for single space, 6 for blueberries/peppers, and 24 for apple trees. The grain crops give harvest boost bonuses

That’s per individual harvest, btw. Tomatoes, blueberries, peppers, and apples can be harvested 3 times IIRC before replanting

It’s a very high level spreadsheet. If you aren’t into data a ton it might take a little playing around to see the numbers change and see how the actions affect outcomes. But if you fill out your situation in the variables, the different charts will tell you different things based on what you’re looking for.

Playing hours is kinda irrelevant for the charts except for a specific use case. It is meant to be kept at a decently high number to show the theory maximum. The bar graph is an interesting graph for the use case of showing why a certain crop is better than another no matter the circumstance. The main chart has colors to show what is the best and worst with a visual guide which many people were thankful for in the first video. It’s hard to explain over text without an example in front of me to show you. If you’ve got any suggestions that in your opinion would make it easier to read, you can message me so we don’t flood the channel and I’ll definitely listen to see if I can incorporate it into the next spreadsheet.

i found the explanation to be pretty clear (im not an excel wizard or a math person, but it's easy to plug in your number of crafters available and the number of crops you want to use in your layout -- i don't fuss with the other variables)

u can hover over the buffs below the layout to make stuf flightup that has it

Yeah, was just trying to figure out if there was a solution I hadn't thought of yet, or if the layout simply has too many multi-tile crops to be 100% weed prevented

Using weedblock fertilizer is a pain because it can't be stored in a worm farm, so you have to either store it in storage or buy it really frequently

i never cared about all crops because i never cook (just like real life). i use the apples for money and also for petite fives as my focus food, then when i was just starting out, i felt it better just to buy my focus foods from reth since i had the extra money (and the fact that half the time i ran around without a full focus bar)

tbh friend really only requested "pls make it so I don't have to deal with weeds on my apple trees/blueberries, this is the last straw" plus "2 apples, 2 peppers, 1 blueberry, plus onion, rice, and wheat," no carrots, and a lot less napa than current layout (which had some truly silly number, idek why)

the rest was me building on my current set of algorithms

which, as you might guess, struggle MIGHTILY with those damn 4-tile crops 😂

Probably the easiest for this would be alternating rows of tomatoes and potatoes? Seed the potatoes, pickle the tomatoes (after you make enough seeds to replant), optionally throw harvest boost fertilizer on the whole thing I guess.

If you want only two crops and water retain, those are your only options, really. Napa takes longer to grow than potatoes and yields less gold per harvest even processed. (The other top crops are bok choy and rice, but that takes it pretty solidly out of two-crop territory, lol)

i don't recommend at your level (seeing as how new you are) a fully afk garden yet. there are multiple achievements for renown that require not only harvesting a certain number of star crops (which outside of blueberries and peppers is completely easy to do regardless of what layout you choose as you can swap same buff crops out with each other) but also require you to pick 1000 weeds. seeing as how you need 4000 renown just to get max focus and focus boost each, those early tasks are very important, you also need the renown to unlock the rest of your housing plot. i would say once you have gotten at least the weed achievement, then you can look into complete afk layouts

Depends on many factors potatoes n bokchoi is most money processed but processing takes super long

But as DuhScape said, doesn't take processing time into account. For most casual players that won't matter too much, but if you're logging 10 hours a day in-game cough and replanting at every opportunity, that bok choy sure will stack up on ya

Personally I grow bok choy, potatoes, tomatoes as my cash crops; rice and wheat; plus onion for weedblock and cooking reasons (and I double-process about half of those to produce HarvestBoost fert from the pickled onions), plus apples because those cut down a lot on my replanting labor and wasted growing time when I am distracted for a long period/busy outside the house.

but I kind of go through boom and bust cycles a bit, lol, as my energy waxes and wanes

so I let the bok choy stack up, then neglect my garden (the apples keep chugging) and let the seeders run for a while

So those are some of the "many factors" for me

the only ways to get blueberries is through luck in either the rummage pile or the mystery machine at zeki's, through ||badruu's|| level 3 friendship quest, or by reaching level 10 gardening, where you'll have access to badruu's guild store and be able to purchase the blueberry seed from him for 45 guild coins
