NP 💕 as Troviian said the lure placement is pretty finicky for beetles so experiment with it. I’ve had some spots where the beetles are most plentiful when the lure is right on a cliff wall and other spots where it seems like it’s better if the lure is away from the wall

How does the bow factor into damage? Like if I used a makeshift bow and fine arrow does that do same damage as a fine bow and fine arrow? The arrows say low, medium, high damage, but IIRC the bow description doesn't really say anything about increased damage.

Bow only affects durability and arrow range. Damage is only affected by the arrow used.

I do amber beetles. Just chop juniper trees outside pulsewater plains and you'll get hoppers, mantis and cicadas. If lucky you might see a RTB or 2 aswell. Depending on how long you do it. 🙂
I'm currently over 470 silks. Not silk threads, but silks from doing it for a while 😅

It's a good income aswell. As you can sell the beetles, sell all things wood related and do silks from the threads and sell that aswell. 🙂

I like to use lures here during the day for them. Scare away the crabs and only go for snails. Super easy if you have a party member helping. Good luck!! I hope you get it!

Highly suggest trying a hunting party for it. Was struggling with this too. Joined a hunting party and got 18 RTB, 3 star quality RTB, and the RTB plushie.

Ah, that's the game. I have a route that works quite well. Your missing plenty of spots running like that. Up at the mine is rarely a spawn spot for RTB. It's lore of them down towards hideaway.

Nah, don't bother with common butterflies. Just run the route, server hop and run the route over and over. You will learn to see what icons you should ignore. A sudden jump is Always a mantis or a hopper. RTB has a smooth transition. 97m, 96m,95m etc while mantis and hopper has like 97m, 95m, etc. This is when standing still. If your too far away they won't move. So I stop at around 100m and just see which is which to know where to run. I'm usually 90% right 😅

Yh, use buzzy jars. They help. Hairy millipede shouldn't be a problem. They are everywhere in northern Bahari during the day. With Stripeshell it's just a matter or running up and down the coast watching for one with buzzy jar. The spotted mantis is a bit trickier. I usually go to the exit to Bahari to the right of dragon shrine, ofc with buzzy jar and then I run to the bridge into dragon shrine and if it's not a rare on your compass, run into Bahari and then back again and to the bridge, rinse repeat and eventually you will find the spotted mantis.

So you start in pulsewater on the inside of the "bowl" or whatever you want to call it, run the path to hideaway and jump to kilima and back to habari central stables. Pop over to pulsewater again and repeat the path. I can take a video of how I do it. Just the run with server hops. 🙂

Okey, so what im doing in the first clip at the beginning is im activating a buzzy jar at around 2.30am and run around clearing all rares as many as i can before the clock is 3am standing in the middle of pulsewater "center". Then im standing still waiting until around 3.10 cause it takes some time for old bugs to despawn and new spawn in. Then i run the route and as you can see, there was 1 bug off to the mines, which i dont care about as its time wasted climbing. I removed some of the loading between clip 1 and 2. I also always use auto run so i can change arrows without having to stand still. Im using dispel arrows incase there is a azure chapaa while running. Hey, a plush is a plush. 🙂

2nd clip is when i teleport back from my plot to bahari to run my 2nd run and when i come into the center of pulsewater im standing still and as you can see on the butterfly on compass its a smooth moving icon, which indicates a RTB. So i run towards that and it was. Then i run to hideaway again and do it all over for as long as i can until the clock hits 7-7.30 ish. 🙂 Wooow, that took some doing and editing and using programs i've never used before xD Hope this helps somewhat to those hunting RTB. 🙂

The bugs does not make different sounds depending on rarity. Only difference is if it's star quality it will have a little bit of sparkles going off when you catch it, but that does not only happen with rare star quality. Also buzzy jars is the item to use to hunt rare bugs. 🙂

For RTBs I always use supreme, otherwise I go with sneaky cause I have an overflow of materials for that one. And you don't scare other bugs you might want to catch. Like lantern and moth is often seen close toe eachother and if you toss at one of them, the other will scare off.

So I have a question about the Duskwing Butterfly, I've been trying to find it for a couple of days now and I can't seem to find it. I've checked the wiki and looked in Maji's Hollow. I've used Honey Lures and all that seems to pop up during the in game times that are listed(3am to 6pm) are common blue butterflies. I've gotten the spotted mantis which is a rare spawn to show, which is rarer than the Duskwing Butterfly so I'm not sure whats up, is the wiki wrong?

Duskwing has uncommon spawn rate on lures is just it shared spot with the blue ones and is so location specific what makes it rate

So I went to De mer docks, was gonna fish for some sharks when I spot in the corner of my eye, a waveback sneaking about. Thought, why not. Had my 2nd account with me aswell in distance for buff. So I shot the waveback. Plush. And 2 at that since I had my 2nd account with me. Another random kill leads to plush instead of hunting them actively.

Buzzy jars are very effective though, but bear in mind they sometimes spawn on one tree which they aren't meant to (it's on top of a cliff that is meant to be inaccessible but you can just about get up there with careful gliding and jumping)

Depending on your luck, 2 lures might not be enough.
Many people prefer running around in south Bahari with Buzzy Jar for finding Rainbow Tipped rather than lures, too. I think both are good methods.
Popular lure spots include next to the big tree by Pulse water stables and inside the 'bowl' of cliffs quite central im South Bahari

Hello! I’m trying to get an Ogopuu scale ⭐️ for a quest (the one they let you use your pet as courier).

I’ve used +1000 arrows and countless Ogopuus and nothing. I want to cry! It’s so difficult. Any tips and/or tricks? I want to know if I’m even doing it right.

Should I just kill them all or is there a specific kind of Ogopuus that gives you more chances?

You definitely should hunt them all but try hunting in a party for a better chance

Each type of ogopuu drops their own scale. If the quest is asking for star quality ogopuu scale (nor emerald ogopuu scale or waveback ogopuu scale) you need to hunt only regular ogopuus (the ones that are blueish (?) and need 4 fine arrows to take down)

Question, can bug groups only replace bugs in that same group? For example, Im hunting for a starred Spotted Mantis, can I take out stinkbugs to help them spawn, or would it only be other bugs in the "Jumping" group?

I know from RTB server takeovers and such, the RTB can only replace a common blue butterfly spawn. Is there something like that for the Spotted Mantis

I do believe spotted stinkbug and spotted mantis occupy the same spawn pool. My way of getting the spotted was I used a buzzy jar and stayed at the exit from kilima to Bahari and went back and forth until I saw a icon on compass towards shrine and ran there. I did run a bit towards the shrine every time I entered kilima again just to get full coverage of the shrine spawns before running in and out of Bahari again. Eventually I got it. 🙂

I hit the wavebacks with a slowdown arrow, then switch to fine arrows and spam. It is definitely a lot easier with a party, but doable solo. I am on PC, though, so that makes it easier for me to solo them.

Honestly, I'm not convinced this is a thing. If you scare off all crickets that spawn in a lure, you can have virtually all blue butterflies blocking everything else spawning in a lure

As such, I don't feel that shared spawn pools are a thing. Besides, it would be more complicated to code it that way in the first place

That’s why you bomb blue butterflies at an RTB hunt though. I don’t know if the code actually works that way or not but one anecdotal piece of evidence for it is that way more azure stonehoppers spawn when people are hitting crickets than when people are avoiding crickets at RTB hunts. I have observed it several times, someone hits an azure accidentally and for a little while way more spawn in than normal

That's cause catching or scaring crickets away allows the game to spawn more crickets, including azure. That's why the best way to go at it is to both bomb only blue butterflies and use smoke candles so that crickets don't get spooked and no more (or almost no) crickets of any kind spawn

Thing is, there's such a lack of data about the internal mechanics of the game that so many theories become prevalent.
Like the milkshake method, that honestly makes no sense to me, logically.

Caught mine by running in circles in Maji Hollow (up to Bahari gate) and catching all the blue butterflies along the way while also scaring all the other bugs. 3 am - 6 pm. Best to do it while no Maji Market because someone might scare it away before you spot it.

Troviian has said what they are, but Raspberry Beetle can be obtained (starred) from a friendship quest,so you don't necessarily have to hunt it. It's either Auni or Badruu's quest. I think Badruu 3*.

As they don't have a plush, not many people have really tried to work out where is best, but probably in Northern Bahari away from the streams /rivers

That is how i got my spotted mantis, star aswell. Just took a couple of runs like this 🙂 Well, a couple was smoothing it over. Took me 11 real life hours of just running in and out of Bahari to get the star one 😅

2 popular lure spots for ladybugs : d8 (same place where grove can spawn) and stone pavement in front of Windy Ruins (though sometimes ladybugs can disappear between the structures). Also you can try going to rtb server take overs, ladybugs spawn with those lures too

Both are up on the cliff at D8, just depends what bugs you want to get along with your lady bugs. You can also place them in a spot that gives butterfly spawns, or centipedes. All preference really!

Your best bet is using lures at the tree east of dragon shrine just past the bridge going to Bahari exit. Up in I5. Between 3am-6pm. Best bet is when it's bright as it can be quite difficult to spot when it's dark.

Ah, Duskwing might be the biggest issue of those 3. Gossamer I caught in the field below badruus farm. I used a buzzy jar, ran there and back to stable and server hopped back to plot and then to kilima again and ran again, rinse repeat. Same with spotted mantis. The Duskwing, lure is your best bet I think.

So I did some testing. I realized that the usual spots for Duskwing now is occupied by millipede and ph beetle. So I smacked a few lures around in different places and result 4 no star Duskwing, 1 got away and 2 star Duskwing in 1 lure.

So probably best to chop trees for it.

Ancient Amber, probably somewhere in North Bahari. Reckon it will be rare even with lures though, so chopping med/large trees might still be a good option.

Gossamer, I liked the crossroad south of the village personally. Others have other favourite spots

Where was it? Some bugs is said to have a certain spawn pool and catching some might disrupt the spawn rate of the desired bug. For example, RTB, they say to not catch or disturb the crickets and only catch the butterflies for a higher chance at RTB spawning. Quite the rare bug. The crickets is also said to increase the spawn rate of butterflies. There are no 100% certainty that this is actually legit, but people roll with it.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. But, not sure if you're aware, but you can get a starred Jewelwing from a quest, so don't need to hunt it.
Sometimes it won't always trigger as obtaining it, but then you just need to get it in your inventory again, leave home, return home and it should trigger in the Master bug collector accomplishment (unless you sold it or used it for a bundle, then sadtimes) .
Also notable are starred Raspberry Beetle and Duskwing Butterfly which can also be obtained from quests (though Duskwing is only a possible reward, easily missed)

Easiest in a group for sure.
Otherwise:
Slowdown arrows can be useful as moving slower is an easier target but also you can see the cloud of green smoke even if it's invisible. Some people just prefer using only dispel arrows though. Depends on how fast you can switch arrows.
But practice switching from axe to bow, really helps with muujin after they run up a tree.

I found personally I was catching more easily at the ledges because it was a smaller zone. Plus can split in groups and run two lures at the same time - so more time efficient. I would recommend smoke candle though on the ledge.

I find A4 to be a lot more successful bc with plenty of room, you’re less likely to scare bugs like in the limited spawn area of the ledges. You also tend to get a lot of infected trees which gives a little essence boost as well. Just today I got about 12k essence and 7 plushies at A4. Two lures at a time, close to the cliff so nothing spawns below, and one person with max bag, one with max amulet.

Oh I use smoke candles and the black sneaky smoke bombs so I don't scare them away. Both are great spots and honestly haven't run the numbers exactly in comparison with doing 2 lures at A4, we always ran one there so worth a shot trying again.

oooh, I would love to help you, if you still need this (: I have found that using lure on path behind the Dragon shrine in Maji's Hollow has been fruitful. we will often set 1-3 lures down depending on if someone is trying to complete achievement collection for regular/starred versions.

Hi any tips for hunting a viel moth and a rtb?

From what I could gather is the best time to try to find rtb is right when it hits 3 am in the areas it spawns. I just did a honey lure at d8 with a couple other people right at 3 am and was able to get one rtb after weeks of trying to just find one naturally

You can just set it up in inventory ahead of time. Put one slow arrow, then a bunch of fine arrows, and repeat. You'll shoot the slow one, then automatically switch to the fine ones. Just remember to switch back to slow arrows to reset after you get whatever you're hunting. This technique is a lifesaver on switch with ogapuus

Dunno if anyone got back to ya, but I go to bahari and hit all the rocks you can find. Bugs with silk pop out, so be ready to hit them after you hear their lil freak-out noise. You can also go to the side of bahari that has hodari and najumas home and go after blue hoppers and some others found over there. After I do a run of both of these, I end up with more than enough silk 😉

I've had the most luck with waveback spawning in Mauvais Way. The hunters horn helps a lot too. I've not gotten a scale yet but I did end up getting a plushie from that location.

Spitfires I found the smoke candles help because if your unsure of what tree they can be on and circle it too close you startle it and it flees if you combine smoke candles and buzzy bar around the areas it spawns you should be good

Struggling to find the Duskwing butterfly.. I’m curious, did anyone find it just as difficult or more difficult to find compared to the RTB? I’ve been able to catch about 5 of those but no luck with the Duskwing so far

Definetely found more duskwing than rtbs naturally. Only reason I have more rtbs is cause I went to an rtb party once, otherwise I find duskwings much easier to get

I've heard 2 different things about catching rare bugs. One was if you catch all the other bugs in that area, then there is more chance for the rare bug to spawn. The other was if you chase away all the other bugs in the area then THAT was the chance for the rare bug to spawn. Which is it?

As I've heard, a new item may only spawn on the place of the previous one. So if you don't see a rare bug, then catching the existing ones may spawn a rare in a new batch

But soemtimes they spawn on their own

People are talking, even tho it's not proven, but seems plausible at least that for example rainbow tipped butterfly and common blue butterflies share spawn pool. And it can only exist so many common butterflies in 1 area at a given time. So let's for example say there can only be 50 common butterflies at one time, if there is, nothing that had the same spawn pool can spawn in before you remove some of those 50 butterflies. It becomes like a spawnstop for other bugs. So most people empty out a area of bugs just before what they need can spawn in to increase odds for it to spawn.

Yeahhh totally!! If it helps, you can find dragonfly in kilima (might be the mirror pond area) also i remember i found fairy mantis around pulsewater plain in bahari multiple times. I dont quite remember where i find the butterfly tho lol. But you could look it up in palia wiki from google
