I have what might be a silly question. If you use a hunter's horn, will it continue to track a disco dog while it's invisible? I've never used a hunter's horn before, so I wasn't sure if it works that way. I usually either sniper shoot them from far away, or join in with people who are actively chasing one. I have like 5 in my storage, so I'll have to use them next time I hunt for sure! I usually end up hunting alone. For some reason I'm scared to ask people in chat if they want to party up for hunting because I figure most people are already in a party for that.

I personally also find slowdowns arrows to be very helpful when solo hunting the bluujins, because if you can manage to slow them, the health bar and the cloud of green smoke makes them easier to track visually — plus easier to hit if they're not as zippy as usual, lol. (YMMV, of course; I know one person who hunts them exclusively with fine arrows, lol!) The only tradeoff is that slowdowns are copper-tipped, so they do less damage.

However, folks aren't necessarily already partied, and some may be happy to have one more join in! It's fine if you'd rather hunt alone, but if you'd like to give it a try in a party, couldn't hurt to ask :)

I like to help people hunting muujins when I'm out hunting for wood. Lol. Seems like a mutually beneficial grouping, although, I will always help chop for others because I'm on a switch. And aiming/having to swap tools/arrows is the devil on the switch.. (soo slow). It helps me get some extra muujin meat for muujin baharis lol. I can't even catch the blue muujins. I only caught a silver chappa purely by luck, I'm pretty sure.

Any advice on catching a jewelwing dragon fly? Do lures help if I've cleared the commons recently? I caught one super early in game, but didn't know how rare it was.. straight to jail for selling it. But now I need one...and I have been trying almost daily for a week now. Lol

as for buzzy, sometimes it spawns on the edge, not in the middle, like on top of pavel mines cave where the jewelwing spawns, or near lighthouse, or around hidewaybluffs pond

I feel like I usually find them most while forgaing on the northernmost cliffwalls of Bahari, but along walls/ledges in general. I never go looking for them. I just try not to run as much while foraging, and I catch them fairly often? I don't really think about time of day, but if I'm running all of Bahari, I usually catch at least one full day cycle.. sometimes two.

I don't see them every day, obviously, but I always search the cliffs, just in case because I hate to waste a perfectly good trip to Bahari.

Ive caught quite a few when I wasn't looking and the way I did it is every time I would enter bahari bay from kilima I would take the route behind hodari's house to go up the mountain. I'd just climb to the top to see if anything interesting was up there on my way to the bridge which leads across the aqueduct/into northern bahari. Hilariously this is only because at the time I hadn't yet realized you can get to bahari from your plot. But it seems like not a lot of people go that route unless they are specifically looking for something up there, so it always felt kinda untouched and it was easy enough to make it a regular stop

That's fair. I generally have stopped at the home plot in between, but not always.. and I probably did use that particular route more in the beginning. I've been getting better about getting to both maps by being more particular about what I'm questing after on each trip. I'll definitely give it a try!

Agree with others about buzzy jar and taking your time when climbing around cliffs. They spawn on literally any juniper tree of any size - I've found them near the beach, around the swampy ruins down by Windy, by Central Stables, north of Statue Garden, on the very tip top of Pulsewater cliffs....

You can also chop juniper trees to roll for a respawn.

If you need a starred raspberry beetle you can have it completing Badruu’s friendship quest (level 3 I think). I was looking for it for so long but I found only normal ones so I completed his quest

@oak escarp I just finally caught my 2nd duskwing butterfly ever about 2 days ago (Yes.. I shrieked in the server bc I was excited). You have to be there before 3am (in game time) and you have a slim chance until 6pm. I usually go in and clear every single bug ever and walk very slowly through the Maji area, over and over... and pray that no one else comes in with the zoomies and no clue that I'm bug hunting. Lol. Mine wasn't starred, tho.. so that was sad. I have started carrying the Supreme bug catchers for special bugs, but I catch everything else common with one of the others. It took me almost 2 weeks to catch one. I don't know if the smoke candles would help, and lures seem excessive for such a tiny area. I feel like it would get scared off too easily. I have no idea what else buffs bug catching, if anything. I saw at least one epic/uncommon spawn each time I went searching. It just takes luck and patience. I hope that helps?

It's out from 3am-6pm in Bahari Bay and they are attached to medium and large orange juniper trees.
I tend to find more on the Southern part of the map.
Using buzzy jars for these is a huge help since they are a rare bug

At this point, I would rather the Duskwing be re-classified as a rare bug. Mainly because of it's small spawn area and the fact that barely any spawn in an in-game day. That way we could at least use buzzy jars to look for them.

I caught 3 today, but I think that was just pure luck. Every time I try to find one, I have far better luck getting a spotted mantis or two.

Go to Hideaway Bluffs just before 3am
Activate the buzzy jar right at 3am or a few ig minutes before that
Run around, catching all blue butterflies (you don't have to pick them off the ground) and going to all buzzy jar pings
If it's a rare bug, scare it and don't bother
If it's an epic bug, gg

Repeat enough times and you'll be rolling in rtb

In Bahari, I grab all of the garlic, sundrop lilies. Briar daisies and brightshrooms

They have a 10% chance of spawning when you forage those so the likelihood of a plushie dropping from on of the 10% is even worse lol it's a rough plush to get

I grow almost only potatoes and make them into seeds to sell for around 15000-20000 money a day so making jars of potato's so I never have to worry about focus is nice ( haha I might be a bit potato crazy 🤣) but definitely bahari is best if you are looking to get lots of meat but if you are new then killima around the bahari gate is great spawn point for senuk 🦌

I like potato because they are harvestable in five days but they do take a long time to make into seeds some people prefer tomatoes but potatoes are good for loaded potato soup also which gives 250 focus

The best method I've found for the Spotted Mantis is to run laps through its spawn area (H4, I4, H5, I5), spooking all the crickets, stinkbugs, etc. Catching all the blue butterflies wouldn't hurt anything, either, though in my experience, that seems to contribute more to duskwing spawns. Use a buzzy jar so you can keep an eye out, since the spotted mantis is rare and will show up on the tracker. It can spawn at any time of day, so just be persistent and eventually you will find one!

I like to run counterclockwise, because that way you can just hop the creek to get to the area past the bridge, then glide on the way back to the Shrine area proper.

Starred bugs seem to show up around 10% of the times that that bug type spawns. As a very cautious estimate, expect about 20 unstarred spotted mantises before you see a starred one. (It could be more, or it could be fewer.)

Some RTB statistics for the plushie data keepers: 205 RTB, 16 starred RTB, 10 plushies. That 1/25 rate seems about right, in "real time" it was closer to 1/30

It can be! Some rare bugs are very abundant, though. Hairy millipedes in N Bahari, leafstalker mantis from sweet leaf, scintillating centipedes from Bahari mining, and firebreathing dragonflies in Mirror Fields are all pretty good bets, available any time of day. Buzzy jar does make it easier, though!

Check the Silk Thread page on the wiki for a list of options, or just sort the Bugs list by rarity :) All rare and epic bugs can give silk.

Spotted mantis have a chance to spawn when crickets/stinkbugs are caught or spooked, and I am pretty sure duskwings only have a chance to show up when the blue butterflies are caught (or at the moth despawn at 3am)

Try catching any butterflies in the area and see if that helps?

It's just less likely to see a wild one since they are easily spooked and nobody catches the unspookable butterflies, normally

but the mass changeover from night bugs to day bugs rerolls a bunch at once

There really are not many butterflies up at one time in the spawn area, though, so it can take a number of circuits ime

I had this problem too, I don't think the spawn times are accurate on the wiki, or maybe they vary depending on time of day. I used about 5-6 honey lures before I managed to snag a starred one, but I will say...

when I threw down each lure, i caught either a ton of duskwings, or none at all. I'm pretty sure as other people have said the best haul was in the morning. if you throw down a lure and see no duskwings, try a different time frame. when i got the starred one, i caught 12 in total from just one lure

The "best spot" for duskwing lures is next to the big tree on the left side of the shrine (look at the shrine from the top down map view); it sits near the back by the water. I have never failed to get my friends their starred duskwing using a lure or two back there in the morning time cycles. Bring a party, bomb the blue butters, and watch for the duskwing. They shall come lol.

I have a lil question about bug bombs: on the wiki, it says "Upon hitting a bug, it will be momentarily stunned, during this time it is immune to the effects of additional smoke bombs."

but I would say most of the people I encounter hunting bugs will spam bombs even while they're stunned. is there a benefit to this that the wiki doesn't mention?

No benefit, other than some people feel like they are more likely to have a bug escape if they aren't hitting it constantly. In my experience, it's more effective to get a feel for the timing on how long the stun lasts

(A friend told me "count to 3" - but I count slower than she does, so I would count to 2. XD Now I watch the 💢 and when it pulses larger, throw again.)

Ironically, it gets much, much easier as you upgrade your bow... but so much of it is just practice and getting a feel for how the arrow physics works.

That said, there are several things that make it much more difficult, including how if your game accidentally gets switched from windowed fullscreen to windowed or vice versa, it can make the whole UI offset, making your aim actually wrong

Hey does anyone have any tips for catching RTB? Like when is the best time to use the honey lures?

I've been playing so long and I've yet to even see one :c

RTBs will show up to lures any time between 3AM and 6PM Palia time. HOWEVER, their spawn rate is very low, so in order to use honey lures most effectively, you will need multiple people (at least 4, more for better results) to bomb down the blue butterflies that spawn and constantly turn over the spawn table. (Large "raid groups" for RTB hunts run multiple lures at once.)

As an additional complication, RTBs also spook VERY easily and run VERY fast - they can despawn before you even see them. Buzzy jars and smoke candles+sneaky bombs can help, but since the lures also spawn plenty of azure stonehoppers and fairy mantises, there can be a lot of noise in the signal, plus loot bags everywhere clogging the compass. It's doable, but difficult. Multiple eyes and VC coordination can make things more effective.

For my money, as a solo player, some good strategies for finding an RTB WITHOUT a big group are:

• be the first to arrive at a grove. Groves always spawn either one of the epic bugs or one of the magical animals. There is about a 20% chance of the grove spawn being an RTB.

• sweep through the RTB's spawn areas starting at 3AM, right as all the night bugs despawn and the day bugs spawn in. Use a buzzy jar and run a full circuit. If you don't find one, run another circuit bombing down the blue butterflies. Repeat as many times as you have patience for. (Can also split up the zone with friends and call each other over.)

It may help to let the server know that you are looking, so others can call them out to you if they see them (assuming they don't run face-first into them and spook them without realizing, which I see happen a lot, unfortunately.)

This is true for mining, where if a party member breaks the node, it's broken for you too/you can loot it, but in a party every person picks the forageable separately anyway :)

So for ladybugs a party helps make sure that more people get credit for the ladybug.

They seem to spawn more often when the crickets/stonehoppers are getting scared off more often, so keep your eyes peeled/a buzzy jar on whenever you're in S. Bahari, especially when folks are actively hunting down there. Make sure you know their spawn areas (check palia.th.gl)

It also might not hurt to have a look around shortly after the day/night transitions (3AM, 6PM) to see if the big reshuffle on the spawn table has made room.

Additionally, fairy mantises have a chance to spawn at groves, so you could try to be the first one there.

But the same tactics that work for the RTB also work for the duskwing, with the added complication of the duskwing not showing up on a buzzy jar

i.e., focus on bombing blue butterflies to turn over the spawn table, either when making sweeps for wild ones or when using a lure

i stg rtb are bugged they have not spawned in two IRL days for me at all, even with spending the in-game day priming the server for spawns... none are spawning

honey lures arent bringing any either... I know there are despicable ppl out there who use cheats to go invisible and TP to specific loot and can instantly collect it tho.. so maybe that is what is happening ... the incidence of cheaters would have to be so extremely high tho w all the server hopping I have done the past 2 days

That was my second thought, actually! Since it's a small area, it would definitely be easier. My only issue is everytime I decide randomly just to go get a Duskwing or 2, there are literally no bugs. Last few times there were like 4 common butterflies and a handful each of crickets and the stinkbugs (or whatever they're called).
So there was nothing to catch or scare away to force a Duskwing spawn. Super weird.

Same here. I've gotten lucky a few times with the Duskwing and from an RTB server hunt. I also keep them for other people who want/need them.

In this second spot, I’ve had days where I’ve caught six duskwings from a couple of lures in one time slot. If you can gather a party together, chuck a lure in this second position and have your party go ham on everything that pops up.

Sometimes the best strategy is to hunt for these things in a group with a lure, because in the insanity of spawning bugs it’s easy to miss the important ones - but in a party of four that can stay a bit closer together, you’ll get loot that you missed but others hit.

For the cicada, it's found on the trunk of trees in south Bahari during the day. And they do get picked up by buzzy jar. I usually find at least 1 when using a jar, along with other rare or epic (if lucky) critters

Hey Vanta! You have to hunt/take down the proudhorn that already exists on the map for another to spawn as there is only ever one on the map at a time, like the azure chappa but unlike bristleback muujin. The most efficient way is 1) using a hunters horn and 2) being in a party- neither are required of course but that's how to farm them fast & efficiently. You'll still have to run around so the hunters horn can pick up on the proudhorn as they can spawn anywhere north of the aqueduct so you'll have to do some wandering to get it to ping on your compass.

Not very rare! The magic animal plushes are some of the higher drop rates out of all of them. However, how challenging they are to take down can vary by person, of course.

But also: if you struggle to hunt them alone, and hunting in a group isn't your thing, try using a horn to find the "wild" one (that isn't in a tree). If you can hit it from 50+ meters away (pretty far away!) you can take it down without it spooking and running. (This applies to all huntable creatures, actually.)

You can also be the tree chopper for a group of hunters if you struggle with aiming!

This! I'm on switch so that 50+ meters away trick is my main way of hunting now. Everything that takes more than one hit with fine arrows I hunt that way. I used to hate hunting muujins and would always lose the banded and magic ones, now I just get them from afar no problem

It’s just bad RNG, I’ve gotten the magic animal drops since the hotfix. IIRC the drop rate for them is only 10% so you can definitely have long streaks without getting one at all

If you have the item from Auni (reward for Badruu's level 3 friendship quest), put it in your inventory, go out to Kilima, and come back. That should give credit toward the accomplishment.

I am also curious, at what strength of arrows should I start hunting muujin? I'm currently doing standard arrows for Kilima sernuk, but I'm not sure when I should (or if I should) transition to hunting muujin.

if you shoot them from a distance (55 meters or more) they actually don't run around and you can use any arrow type that is the easiest for you to craft. i think this is easier than chasing them

imo muujin do best with (minimum) fine arrows. Slowdowns can help if you struggle with tracking them, but fine arrows will one-shot the basic muujin and two-shot the banded ones. The slowdowns may be useful for the banded ones if you need more time, but the tradeoff is you have to hit them three times...

The magic muujin can be longshot with fine arrows (or, tbh, any arrow since you can take your time), or if it goes up a tree, either with slowdowns (my preference if I am solo) or dispel arrows.

When I'm using a lure to try and get a specific insect to spawn, is it best to pick up insects as I go, or just keep tossing not-pokeballs until the lure runs out. There seems to be a strategy to the lures I'm not aware of.

Depends if you're also trying to use a buzzy jar. If you are using a jar, then too many loot bags on your compass will block the bug indicators

But the strategy for lures is, generally, to turn over the spawn table as quickly as possible to "reroll" those spots for new bugs. Usually, one of the better ways to do that is to have multiple people working together.

Strange indeed, if you have unlocked weekly for guilde medals you can buy the seed at Bug Guild for 15 medals and test it out on a different plot to see will it give back seed. If not then we have to ring the support bell.

I had the same issue, they blend in really well with some the shrubbery
but I'd keep your search to southern bahari bay cause there's more sap wood trees down there, they only spawn during the morning and day, and I recommend using the jars to help track it down

I dont think lures work for them cause they spawn on the trees, when your running around have your audio up so you can hear if you've spooked a bug

Has anyone found a benefit to dropping multiple lures at the same time with a group of friends? I saw it happening today with a group and was so curious! Normally I only see a group with one lure at a time.

If you have a big enough group to handle the amount of bugs that result, it lets you spawn more bugs during the window of time when a specific bug (like the rainbow-tipped butterfly) appears. The more times you roll the dice by making the game spawn a new bug (i.e., by catching/spooking the ones the lure produces), the higher your chance of seeing one or more RTBs show up over the duration of the lure(s).

@scarlet parrot Go to south bahari at the end of the night. I mostly go on top of the pavel mines. Just before 3 pop your buzzy jar. Go make a round, and see on the map where the spawns are. Like some spawns are always the cicada. at the same time just scare crickets, catch nothing but blue butterflies (you dont need to pick them up, it makes you slower). If you've seen its not there you can server jump to a friend. And do another round on the same buzzy jar. I almost always get 1 - 3 RTBs this way. But if you really wanna have it, you could also join a full server rtb group, those are always nice 👌✨

This is because in S. Bahari it only spawns from chopping juniper trees (also spawns from juniper trees up north, but can also be found in the wild)

I have no idea if you can "make" a bluebristle muujin by forcing them into flow trees in the south. I think you'd have to do it twice? From what I've read, the muujin only upgrade once in a flow tree (so regular -> banded, banded -> magic)

If you can join one of the giant group hunts (20+ people) that place multiple lures simultaneously, those pretty reliably see between 15 and 30 RTBs per in-game day, depending on strategy and RNG. Check #1143270926394335282 and PaliaParty.app.

Sometimes groups don't always advertise their hunts (they fill up pretty quick sometimes), so try asking around in your network to see if anybody knows someone running one.

If that doesn't sound like it will work for you (big group stuff doesn't always, and that's OK!) — then I suggest getting at least 3 other folks together to bomb down the blue butterflies IF you use a lure.

You can also try being first at the grove, as there's a 10% chance of the epic bug/magic animal that spawns in the grove being an RTB (and a tenth of those on average will be starred ones, even!)

Otherwise, it's still the same strategy of running a route around S. Bahari fields and cliffs with a buzzy jar between 3AM and 6PM.

If you happen to catch a starred one first: REQUEST an unstarred one if you need it for bundles. So, so many people have a stack of unstarred ones sitting in storage for this purpose and will be happy to fill it if you ask. :)

In my 2nd week of playing the game a year ago I managed to get 2 regular sernuk plushies while I was doing loops around whispering banks anihilating every single sernuk I could see. Since then I went on countless hours long hunting trips in Bahari and Kilima and only ever got maybe 1 more reg sernuk, 1 elder sernuk, 1 proudhorned and 1 chaapa plushies. In a whole year. RNG hates me

I have been trying for months for starred RTB and Faerie Mantis with zero luck. Same with trying to get star Amethyst and Sapphire. It's kinda crazy.

I've hunted lots of magic sernuk and magic chapaa but never got their star loot. I have yet to see a single plushie on any hunt targets of any type.

The plush drop rates on the regular and striped variants of huntable animals are pretty low: 1/500, or 0.2%

No tricks for it but persistence, I'm afraid.

Loot is shared for everyone who can pick up a specific loot bag: if it has a plush for them, then it has a plush for you as long as you were counted as one of the people who participated (either directly or via party proximity buff).

I can get a disco deer using dispel arrows, but cannot for the life of me get the blue mujin. I don't fully understand how it moves around the map.

If I chase it and it goes up a tree, does it stay in that tree on that server / map until the tree is cut down?
Or is it possible that it will appear somewhere else on the map if someone cuts a tree?

Trying to understand if I can basically camp out at its tree until someone can come help me hunt it

Yes, it stays in the same tree! :D And if you participate in chopping down a tree, and the muujin that pop out of it are killed before they tree themselves again, then you get credit for those kills, as well. They USED to heal back up when they jumped into a tree, too, but they changed that a while back.

Sometimes the unspoken body language of "hey there's a muujin up here" is like: run up to person, wave, point at tree you've already tapped, stand back and aim a dispel arrow at the trunk XD

Oh, and since they added health bars to the huntables, I've found it a little easier to use slowdown arrows while solo hunting the bluebristles. As long as I can get one hit in on it when it pops out, then the cloud of green smoke and the health bar make it easier to target.

Aaand also the "longshot" technique where if you shoot an animal from >50 meters away, it doesn't spook :) This can require some creative angles and cliff-climbing sometimes, lol

But the blue/black Mujin is the last one I miss and I can't get it to drop for the live of me. Neither alone, nor in a party

I try to stick to the advice of some bug hunting parties I have been to, to keep my focus over 50% and tell my party members to do so as well, to increase drop chance.

You're more likely to encounter a wild RTB the earlier it is in the 3am to 6pm period, because at 3am all of the moths and glow bugs despawn at once and get rerolled as butterflies.

But I would also recommend checking the grove. The grove always spawns either a magical creature or an epic bug. There's a 10% chance of the thing that spawns being an RTB, and 10% of those grove RTBs will be starred.

If you can be the first one to find the grove, then you can be the first one to check for it :)

When I was looking for the starred RTB, I tended to camp out at the Windy grove location. People tend to take a long time to find it, and if the grove wasn't there, then I had a better chance of finding a wild RTB by sweeping immediately once 3AM hit.

Maybe this is the wrong thread, but is there a place that explains what all of the noises mean? I've figured out all but two, which are driving me crazy. The first is the squeak squeak that sounds like a gate hinge or something. The other I can only describe as an accordion like noise.

Attempts to get silk threads have failed. In all my mining and bug hunting I have collected silk thread exactly one time. I've been playing daily for two months 😩 What am I missing?

because I read of your plight in the other channel too:

1. you can make a shortkey to any tool in options/tab for keyboard or keybinding. So you can quickly change tools (say from pick axe to bombs) with just that one key until your muscle memory is fast enough to do it without.
2. You also can change the placement of your tools in the Inventory tab, placing something important on the top (if that should be easier to reach quickly) and placing less stressful tools on bottom, like gardening tools - just by dragging them.
   that should help with the speed to have your tool ready when you need to catch something fast.

I wish it would work for my mouse buttons I have 2 mouse buttons that are just never used but are so easy to click but Palia won’t let me bind them as keys

for each kind of creature there is a magical one also and these can drop special materials - they also behave in a special way - but I will not spoiler your fun when you first meet them and that discussion would also go to hunting and not bug catching 😉

Each type of creature has a magic version. Proudhorned Sernuk teleports, Bluebristle Muujin turns invisible, and Azure Chappa splits into three (1 real 2 fake). The arrows dispell their magic to make them easier to hunt. Still have to be quick though.

alternative strategy for everything magical or not: Standing away far enough (probably best to have a palium bow for that) and shoot them with any arrow you want.

If the distance is enough, you will make damage (not as much as if you were closer) without making them react and flee.

The damage is exactly the same regardless of range :) If you hit, you hit. What determines damage amount is your arrowhead: flint-tipped, copper-tipped, and iron-tipped arrows each do different amounts of damage

I have 2 starred bugs to finish my collection and stupidly enough it's the duskwing and the fairy mantis - I've gotten heaps of plain duskwing - no starred and a few mantis but they seem to be very elusive for me. It's weird that some bugs are easy for some people and really hard for others.

every star quality insect can be placed in your home as an item.
There is a bigger display for 980 Bug Catching Medals in Auni's Shop. You get medals for every bug hunting level after lvl 10 and for weekly accomplishments.

every bug and fish has two versions. A normal one and one with a star in bottom left corner of the icon.

Where should I go to look for rarer insects? I want to do a collection room in my house at some point, but also I sell them for money to upgrade my house. I just started playing last night lol. But , I’m already hooked

both maps Kilima and Bahari have rare or epic insects in different parts of their maps or at different times.

Green Garden Snails can be found pretty much all over Bahari but mostly at the beach. There you also find the rarer Stripeshell Snail which is purple.

And yes I totally get the being hooked aspect and wanting to collect.
Getting all rare bugs for my display was one of the first accomplishments in the game.

Paliatracker is a very neat website to keep track of what you already caught normally and in star quality. It also tells you where to find it, at which time, ect

Almost 1 year trying to get star rainbow butterfly, of course unsuccessful! Like 25 normal one so far and that's it. 3AM, buzzy jar, smoke, run around mountains near cave and land near Hodari house. 10% chance per rainbow for it to be starred it seems ur lucky on getting rainbows at leats but yes al;ot of poeple cherrypick the starred ones making it less ten 10% i got my first one at like number 30 or osmething
