Similar thing happened to me, lost my flametongue ray and kilima spotted ray (both starred) just because I saw Elousia and then BOOM she takes my precious starred fishes without warning just because I was on a specific quest where she wanted "flow" fishes.

buzzy jars make them easy to find, just imo, ive been hunting for star rainbow tipped butterflys and star jewelwing dragonflys, and i generally just get a ton of spitfire cicadas. You can generally tell if its a cicada based on where it marks on the maps since it'll always be on a tree, and if your familiar with the map you'll know if its marking a tree.

They are. I legit saw more rainbow butterflies than duskwings. But then again, I rarely pass by Maji's hollow so there's that. I did come across 1 randomly on 2 separate occasions though

Most often you won't see one, but you can will one into existence! Use a smoke candle, for sure, so you can survey the area without spooking all the little tweakers. Then shoot all the brushwing dragonflys and common blue butterfiles you can find in that area, and eventually one will spawn, because... well, because math. You're increasing the likelihood of one spawning by increasing the number of bugs that spawn. It has worked for me in a few scenarios.

you could try to use slowdown arrows, it will still disappear but the ‘health bar’ still stays so you’ll be able to see where it goes so the muujin is slowed because of the arrows which means it can’t run fast towards a tree and disappear again

I do use slowdown arrows 😭 The problem is that after I hit it, it’ll glitch and the next thing I know it’s miles away about to hop in a tree. I don’t even have a chance to hit it again because of that 😞

It is a switch issues, it has been for months. It's a bit better than it used to but they never seem to aknowledge the issue so I doubt it'll be fixed anytime soon. Switch is never a priority for them it seems

What have you tried? Hey ya'll. I've been spending all my time in Kilima doin' Bug Queen things, catching hundreds of Duskwings (literally this week i've caught over 400, its been cray) and tons of Gossamers. Seeing lots of starred bugs and I always call them out to the server but no one has been interested.
I've had more than a few servers where I'll find 2 starred Duskwing or 2 starred Gossamers in a row, plus 3-5 regular.

They do, they're just really hard to find. I got insanely lucky randomly finding mine while I was just going about my day. I think I've used all my bug luck for a while after that one

yah the razzberry beetle is the hardest bug to get in the game so far from what I've experience. The Rainbow Tipped Butterfly is far easier to get you just need to run around the left side of bahari with a buzzy jar at 3 am to 6am

This! Stuff like the raspberry beetle that can spawn all day but are super rare tend to be extra annoying when you're looking for it specifically. I have the same issue with the Jewelwing in Bahari. Every time I'm there (I always have a buzzy jar on) there is one taunting me at the top of pavel....but then when I'm trying to help someone else catch it, it doesn't exist 🙃

This is why I always recommend just keeping a buzzy jar going when you leave your plot (if you're working on your epic bug collection) because you never know when you'll stumble upon a server teeming with rare bugs.
For example: last night I was in Kilima, doing my usual (obsessively searching the dragon shrine for pretty butterflies that make my brain feel fuzzy) and I came across not one, but TWO Star Duskwings in a row, as well as 3 regular. (Just in the course of 2-3 hours.) Once 6PM hit, I headed out of the shrine and found TWO Star Gossamer Veil Moths in a row, and then about 5 normals across the server.

Then, a few hours later, I was trying to help a friend catch a Duskwing (we were out of lures, and as much as I server hop its usually not an issue, can almost always find one on every other server at least) and we spent TWO IN-GAME DAYS STRAIGHT searching that shrine on 10+ servers a day...and didn't see a single one. 😩

It's one of the Palia Laws: If you need it and you're searching for it, you're not going to find it, but once you don't need it anymore, its everywhere

ALSO a quick reminder: If you feel like its too much work to keep a supply of Buzzy Jars going because of all the glass you need to make the bulbs.....just buy the bulbs from Sifuu's Forge in town.
I have been buying them for 800 levels now, and every single jar I made with them gave me more than enough silk and bugs to sell cover the costs. (Lightbulbs only cost 140g, you need 2 per jar.)

For the Raspberry Beetle Specifically: I've found it easiest to hunt them down at night or when most people are not online, then use Underground Market tunnel or Leafhopper TP board to server hop until you find it.
Or, if you have a huge friends list, do the opposite. When most are online and in Kilima, use them to server hop by joining each one's server, checking for the raspberry, then quickly joining the next one on the list in Kilima. (Best time from my experience is right before & after the Underground opens & closes, so I start around 4pm and go until 3-5am.)

I got both without lures. My understanding is that lures really only work for drawing out the common, uncommon and rare population because those have a much much higher spawn rate making them the ones that appear. That process is the same as when we try to force a spawn by repeatedly hitting the individual bugs (in the area and family of the one you're seeking) but much faster for a short period of time. The other factor besides the spawn itself is the server you're on. Hence the server hopping. If the server you're on has no bugs then leave, instead of hoping one will appear. All that said, my personal non-expert opinion is that the single most valuable tool you can have is a smoke candle. Hunting bugs is much less stressful and frantic when you can observe them without alerting them to your presence. Just walk around in the area and watch, see how much activity there is and where they tend to appear, note how long they stick around once someone else alerts them, which is annoying but guaranteed to happen quite often). It's very useful to have that extra time to aim a great shot while they're still oblivious to you, instead of stumbling upon one by accident and scrambling to hit it and then spooking it off the grid. I hope this helps somewhat. Good luck!

I've had good luck finding gossamer when I opent he buzzy jar when evening starts. With little luck I find one that spawned immediately before anyone can spook it. I tend to have a weirdly good luck with bugs haha.

Maybe you are. When it comes to the raspberry beetle I think the challenge is more a question of catching one than of spotting one. I see them often but if I don't have a smoke candle going they are hard to catch, especially since I play on Switch.

Drop a lure a bit east of Maji's hollow, right after the little stream and bridge (I5 iirc). I got 2 starred spotted mantis and 4 regular ones using only 2 lures. It's a good spot for duskwings too

Lures are probably quicker guven the massive amount of bugs they spawn, and if you place them strategically you'll get rare bugs amongst the common and uncommon ones, too

I just had the craziest luck. Loaded into a new server and pretty much landed on a star rainbow butterfly. Caught it, then turned around and spooked an azure. Killed it and it gave me a plush. O_O All in like less than a minute 🤯

I had some luck recently with the duskwings. I've been going over there at 3am and scaring off all the bugs I can find. Then run back around and sometimes a duskwing has spawned in. I seem to see more of them 3am-5am than I do the common blue butterfly

I find that most of the times it helps when you are walking around a specific area for a while and can't find the bug you're looking for: just leave that area for a few seconds and then come back and most of the time the bug I'm looking for just spawns then 🙂

Guys, seriously, if you struggle to get ancient amber beetles the best way is to go in south bahari and chop juniper trees. It works anywhere in Bahari but there's just more juniper trees in the south part of the map, which is why I suggest there. If you're on switch like me, I highly recommend using smoke candles so the beetle doesn't get spooked cause we all know how slow it is to switch tools and that bug is super fast. Here's my haul after 2 smoke candles, so 20 minutes. Sadly didn't get a starred one like I was hoping for but 11 ancient beetles in 20 minutes is an amazing rate

some people are convinced that if you put honey lures in a very specific spot in maji's hollow your chance of duskwings spawning is higher. imo it's pretty much just superstition. i have used the recommended honey lure spots before and gotten nothing, and used honey lure spots elsewhere and gotten tons. imo it's just RNG although i do think clearing out butterflies and using lures at 3am might help a bit.

Sorry, but how does the buzzing jar work in practice? I tried to use it at the dragon's shrine and nothing, I don't see any bugs around. I went to caha bahari and it shows me two butterfly icons. I went back to the shrine and again nothing.

It shows rare and epic bugs. When you see a butterfly icon it's to show you there's one such bug there. I honestly feel it's a waste to use a jar in Kilima, I legit never got a ping from anything there, Bahari Bay is where it's at, way more rare and epic bugs to find around there

use a buzzy jar just before 3am, run from pulsewater plains to the pond outside hodari's house to hideaway bluffs checking all the bug icons on your radar in the vicinity, change server by teleporting to kilima and back to bahari or server syncing with a friend in bahari, repeat.

they're most common in the early morning right after the morning bugs spawn in, so if you don't find one by 10-12ish you're probably not going to until the next day.

there's a small chance one might spawn with the flow tree grove at midnight but you need to get there early enough before someone else catches it or scares it off which isn't always possible

they require a gold bar to make however, so i would advise using them very sparingly. and you may well not get any epic bugs from them. buzzy jars are a lot easier to make and in most cases get you better results

Before 3 am, go to south bahari with smoke candles and buzzy jars. Use both just before 3am and run around all the grassy areas till 6 pm. Even if you don’t get the butterfly, you’ll get tons of silk. Find the spawn spots online before starting. guides show a preferred route.

I caught 7 starred Rainbows last night. I had 3-5 friends in Bahari, each on different servers, and almost all of their servers were nearly empty. Every other server I hopped to would have less than 5 people and those are where I found the starred rainbows.

Omg yes, I will only use sticky bombs for those. Trust me it’ll help a ton.
They’ll go slower, and they’ll be easier to see from the bomb’s visual effect on it (can’t describe how that looks, but you’ll notice)

At 3am use a Buzzy jar to check all the areas in this video, skip all the rares that aren’t butterfly and move fast. After you check all the rares, if no butterfly, server hop and repeat.
If you have a couple friends in bahari on other servers, you can sync to theirs to hop quickly and probably cover at least 3 servers before 6am (don’t bother looking all day, 3a-6a is your best time for them)

there's a theory that maji's hollow might be programmed to spawn more ground bugs than flying bugs for some reason, which ends up making it so the mantis is overall more likely to spawn than the duskwing despite their rarities indicating the opposite

normally you dont notice cuz the not butterflysd get chased of alot but the butterflys are fewer then the other two

Unfortunately honey lures won't help with the bugs attached to trees, and the buzzy jar won't help with that one either since it's an uncommon bug.
More tend to spawn on the northern part of Bahari Bay than the southern part and make sure you are looking on the medium and large trees only for them.
They are out between 3am-6pm in game time.

lol I guess it’s the game drop rate. It’s not equal for all players. Some get a lot of certain plushies some get others . I remember spending weeks to get my elder sernok and no lie 30 thousand arrows. Once I got my first one then they dropped like crazy after that. I’ll get that little white chaapa eventually. Yesterday on my home plot after fishing for days and days I got all fish plushies double and triple go figure. I now have 8 minnows 3 of the red and 3 yellow and 2 catfish. Crazy. lol and took 11 hours of straight fishing to get the star goldfish. The ancient fish drop like crazy for me but not the goldfish or waterlogged chests

It's an external app you can install for Palia (and other games). It puts on overlay on your screen with a mini map and you can select what you're searching for (certain bugs, fish, pal nodes, etc.)

Some see it as cheating, but it really isn't. If you've been trying to find something for ages, it's so easy to have. And it's free (unless you pay for the no ads version)

I've been trying to find the both the Ancient Amber Beetle and Spitfire Cicada in ⭐ quality for ages now and I finally found them cause they popped up on the map. Same for the last three fish I needed for the achievement
