Has anyone gotten a starred Proudhorn antler? I've hunted over 20 of them and I haven't gotten a single starred one. Sometimes 5 in one hunting trip.

Ive shot at least a hundred of them and dont got it. the creatures themselves are rare, those antlers are even more rare, so you can imagine how rare star quality antler would be

Yeah, I stick to the non-coastal Southern areas. One of the spawn maps has like 5 spread out locations in the north that it says they can be in too, but I've just stuck to the South rather than be across the aquifer when one spawns.

they can spawn throughout the day but the best chance to find one is as early as possible because at 3am the night bugs all despawn and day bugs spawn en masse. as time passes they're caught or scared away and the odds of them respawning seem slim to none, though at least from what i understand, catching butterflies probably raises the chance of more spawning throughout the day but even then the chance will be pretty low.

There seems to always be one spawn with refresh (just an observation so take with a grain of salt) it's at least spawning once a day then consistently

So during the day time i jump servers check the leafhopper hills area and jump servers again

I like to catch every one i see so i know how many it took to find a starred one by the time i find one

On an arrow/per time basis, load up on slow arrows and go for the elder sernuks in Bahari. Those you don't need to chase and, if you position yourself correctly, can basically down in one go. Proudhorn is too rare to go for for xp. You want quantity, and lots and lots of dead elder sernuks. Source: Level 120 hunting 🙂

Learn the distance at which they start running, and start shooting when you're just close enough for them to not start running. Also, on flat terrain, they'll try to run straight away from you, meaning you can somewhat influence where they'll run to. Sometimes it's worth changing the angle a bit if it means they'll run into a dead end, or not over a hill.

Also, if you're part of a community, duo-level hunting - form a 'wing' so to speak, sort who shoots first and the other just lets loose after. It's more fun and breaks up the monotony of leveling.

Yes a little, but use slow arrows instead unless you're a really competition-level FPS guy - slow arrows buy you more time on target which I find more efficient. Standard loadout for me is 200 slow arrows for everything but Proudhorn and Azure Chappaa; for those 2 I use a stack of 100 Dispel arrows (which deal the same damage as fine arrows, rendering them obsolete).

Sorry for the later answer but this is amazing advise from start to end, ill finish my fine arrows and from then on only load up on dispel ( i carry fine/slow/dispel/flare at all times but at this point dispel arrows are cheap/come to me so i can save on inventory space ( my standard loadoat is worms/bags/arrows/food so thats a whole row down. Also i prefer slow arrows for the visibility and the feeling/ used to play fps in the past but these hilly landscapes are kind of aggravating at times

Here's one last thing; on looting: As long as you can loot a single item from a sernuk's loot bag, you can loot everything, as the other items will just go to overflow and from there straight to your home storage. Since the minimum loot every sernuk has is 1 hide, do this: Loot a few hides and split your 1 hide-stack into like 5 hide stacks of one hide each. This will allow you to loot a /lot/ of sernuks as they fill, but since all the other things like antlers will be beamed home after a while, be prepared for a major clean-up session of your general storage after.

I've also added you ingame, I'll come as wingman some time just for fun and maybe for an extra level or two 🙂

Bahari bay has far more bugs that drop silk. Bugs that are rare and epic drop silk. Buzzy jars are great as they will show you every bug in 200m that will drop silk. I got enough silk to finish the watcher furniture by mining in bahari and catching the occasional centipede that spawns - multitasking!

In game the Paper Lantern Bug has the green icon the Bahari Glowbug has on the Palia Wiki.

I noticed this because I was SO confused any time I seen and caught a Green Star Quality lightbulb bug, that it ended up being the Paper Lantern instead of the one I am actually trying to catch which is apparently... Not the green one? Idk.

welcome! I think it really depends on what sort of challenges you want to do. There are bugs needed for some of the big quest lines or if you open up your menu and go to accomplishments you can see there is some accomplishments that you can work on completing if that is interesting to you 🙂 A lot of us love to complete the collections so we try to catch one of every bug and one of every bug that is a gold star.

The gold star is how sometimes bugs might have a glitter to them, im not sure if you have seen it before or not.

some of the most common ones that give people problems are the Duskwing, which is listed as uncommon but has a hard spawn location. The Raspberry beetle I didn't know was a thing when I started either. Those are ones I worry I ran by before before I didn't realize it was there. Mostly, I pay attention to sounds when playing. Sometimes hearing that notification sound of bugs being scared can indicate something near you that might be easily scared so I just remind myself to peek around.

if you're in bahari and see a -white butterfly - pink mantis - gold dragonfly- gold/orange cicada grab them as they are the rarest blue cricket- orange butterfly- redish millipede- green mantis- pink centipede grab them as they are rareish and give silk which youll need alot of

kilma - red beetle - very dark blue butterfly- pink beetle -golden bee - light green mantis grab these as rarest blue moth - green mantis -orange dragonfly grab these for silk easiest way to look for special bugs if you dont know exactly what you're looking for

Honeypots are useful only if you have enough players to kill bugs quickly to keep respawning them and play the rng (how many that is can be subjective. I’d go 5 people for rare, and higher for epic). Also look up online to be sure that you’re setting up at a node for what you want to catch.
Buzzy jars are the best option for solo players hunting the really hard to find stuff. They seem to have a range of 180 m. So if you see two bugs and walk out of range of one to chase the other, the one you’re moving away from might disappear from your compass but isn’t necessarily despawned. They also seem to include vertical height in their calculation.
Not all spawn points seem to be equal odds of spawning. I spent two irl weeks and at least three buzzy jars looking in the SouthWest side of Kilima for a gossamer moth because there are more spawn points there, but right after I finally found one and caught it, I ran into three more in the East side on the fumes of that buzzy jar walking back to my plot. Similarly I have heard many people here say they caught the elusive rainbow tipped butterfly in Pulsewater Plains, but haven’t heard (I’m sure we’ll hear a few now) of them being caught in the Hideaway. So if you’re really striking out in an area, try moving around the map to other areas with spawn points.

Oh! And if bugs keep appearing and disappearing on the buzzy jar in the same direction and distance, either someone’s getting lucky with centipedes or there’s someone with a honey lure and you should go jump in on that!

Straying into the play style specific stuff, I try to mine every deposit I see while waiting for bugs to spawn on the buzzy jar. This keeps me supplied with stone for light bulbs, and each buzzy jar tends to more than pay for itself on silk. I make batches of jars and every so often make dedicated trips to farm spine shell crabs (leaf hoppers work too but the purple crabs move a consistent speed and direction and show up better in their environment for me), and don’t particularly struggle with materials to keep the jars in stock.
Some people prefer to swap map instances each time they don’t see bugs instead of waiting for them to spawn, which is probably better if you’re after an epic bug specifically, but for general bug farming for silk I find it best to multitask and wait for spawns. Mining in between bugs can make pallium spawn too!
If you leave your home with your backpack full of split stacks of silk and stone (so one item per slot) you’ll be able to pick up loot from anything that drops silk or stone until those slots are full instead of a slot for each bug and ore type (plus star grade!). The overflow material goes home to your chest. I learned that just this week and tried it out and it really does all just go home, it doesn’t get thrown out. I got back and there were all the azure hoppers, centipedes, and spitfire cicada that I’d picked up.

I once found Glambi trapped in the log on the north end of the beach with someone walking around it not sure what to do. I walked up and shot it five times and we both grabbed the loot. I’d also sometimes find muujin glitched in tree trunks that I could shoot. Sometimes the loot would spawn up the tree though so I’d have to chop it down and paraglide from somewhere to grab it.

Everything that you can pick up. Which is why you fill your inventory with individual pieces of stone and silk thread: 99% of the time any bug or ore you mine will have those so it will allow you to pick them up. Ditto with grabbing a sernuk hide in a few slots before hunting, etc.
If you’re doing honey lures grabbing a butterfly or two and crickets will hold spots for those so you can clear the ground and see what you’re doing.

Hey! Those were my final three too! Buzzy jars were my friends and tended to pay for themselves in silk (scroll up for more details). I found more gossamer moths more on the East end of Kilima even though there are more nodes for them in the west.
Rainbow butterfly I’d search the channel for and pick out the advice from people who have been hunting star grade. I got one with a buzzy jar after swapping Bahari instances (leaves and come back) a bunch of times instead of waiting for them to spawn.
If you’re down to work harder for it, organize a BIG group and set up honey lures at spawn nodes and have everyone knock out every bug they see to try to spawn with rng. Have space to pick them up because the game slows down once I have twenty or so butterflies at my feet and it also gets hard to see what’s still “alive”. I also recommend having multiple lures (maybe ask people to each bring one or two if they can, but don’t require it because then you’ll have less people helping to run the rng), and set them up back to back.

Spitfire cicadas are easy with buzzy jars. I often got two or three per jar once I was using jars. Just slow down when the numbers reach around 30m away from a bug so you see them before they see you.

Slow down arrows work 100% better in my opinion. They only slow the real copy allowing you to hit it multiple times. The dispel arrows just keep it from cloning. It will just run off as quickly

No, the dispel arrows only keep it from cloning if you hit it before it has cloned itself. If you hit the original or one of the clones with a dispel, it gets stunned and you can finish it while it doesn't move. If you sneak on it and get really close, then scare it, it's quite easy to hit one of them.

Personally, I have found it easiest to hunt with at least one other person (one has the dispel arrows equipped and the other slowdown): countdown to 3 and have the dispel hit first with the slowdown immediately after/as the other person has shot off their dispel, then continue hitting as often as you can until it's done. If you lose it either do a hunter's horn or search around until you find it again and repeat the process.

Doing solo runs I would just do dispel arrows but everything else is the same.

get to a grove first, i was just at one where the rainbowtip spawned

it's just other people tend to scare off that bug when they get there

if you dont mind waisting the materials, you can use a dowsing rod right before midnight, then if you see multiple sources pop up its likely the grove
then switch to a buzzy jar which will trash the dowsing rod but lead you directly to the bug

Just a heads up, when searching for the star quality gossamer veil moth, I was catching all I could see. To my surprise, when I looked in my inventory I saw a star quality one, but when I was catching it, it didn't look like the star quality (when it glows and makes the twinkling noise).

So if you see one that looks normal, catch it anyways, as it could be a star quality one.

Finding silk threads from certain bugs becomes tedious and especially because for each piece of silk you need 5 threads... cry mode on 😭 😭

If it helps, silk only comes from rare and epic bugs. You can use a buzzy jar to track down the kinds you need for silk. Also, mining in Bahari could help you with getting silk, by catching the centipedes that sometimes spawn from rock and ore nodes.

Go to Bahari to find them as well! More rare bugs there and imo, they drop more silk than the rares you can find in Kilima, though I don't know if that's actually true, it just feels that way. And bring plenty of bug bombs! I would recommend at least 200, more if you use more than 1 or 2 buzzy jars.

They are epic bugs, so they are the rarest kind of bug you can find. Imo that one is the most "common" of the four, probably because most people do bug hunting in the southern half of Bahari and that one is the only one found in the north, and I don't think it's a highly sought after bug.

the bahari glowbug? nope, only issue with that bug is its inventory icon is swapped with the paper lantern bug so it's easy to mix them up. make sure to look in south bahari only between 6pm-3am, around the grassy areas, if possible use a buzzy jar, and server hop if necessary

If you watch the map/compass icon* and the bug is out of bound but not moving, it's most likely a spitfire cicada. I've found several like that. And the rainbow tipped butterfly has specific spawn locations, so I think it's unlikely that it was a butterfly. *This is assuming you're using a buzzy jar

Thats hard one, I used several buzz jars usually evening time because its easier too the sparkle of the star version , I caught allot dragon fires ..... took me 3 days kept going back too the area . finally caught a star after several non-stars- the worst part is I had one , I caught early when I started playing and sold it !

i have hunted around 20 firebreathing dragonflies, no flower. hunted 5 gossemar veilmoths no flower ( also not starred i'm sad cus i need it haha same with rasberry beetle no flowers ! )

I've caught at least a dozen princess ladybugs, firebreathing dragonflies, and gossomer veil moths. No seeds. Either the three missing seeds have a stupid low drop rate, EVERYONE is having awful RNG, or 2/3 "unknown flowers" come from golden bee and spotted mantis.
