most of the time i find one hanging out at either proudhorn pass, or thorny thicket. you can also use a hunter's horn if you have access to that, it will help to follow the deer even as it teleports

Sometimes a bug may spawn from plants, just like the millipede from the rocks.
Sweet leafs give a mantice, and other plants like briar daisy's will give ladybugs. And from trees you may get bees or even a beetle from pines in bahari.

Update on my previous rainbow butterfly question. I CAUGHT 3 LAST NIGHT!

All I did was stock up on like 200 sneaky smoke bombs. And some Supreme smoke bombs (can use the green sticky ones as well). I used the map provided by xandraaaaaa (I think) to guide me. During the day time in game I went around the map and collected ALL crappy bugs. After I didn't really see anymore of the other bugs I used the bug tracker and then it took me to 3 rainbow butterflies!

They were not star quality but I didn't care about that.

But yes groves are also a good way to get the butterfly star quality

fun tip (unless you already know): there are two locations (one in thorny thicket and the other across the river from garden statue) that have cliffs that are completely separated from the surrounding areas, these are the best (read that as only) places to hunt muujin solo. they can't jump down cliffs. so cutting all of the trees in these areas will "glitch" them to not being able to find trees and just run around like chickens with their heads cut off. it's better than trying to chase them down, chop trees, and chase them down again after they've been healed

it just might be run, check the area, if nothing is there go do something else, then come back after a few minutes

the muujin is best hunted in thorny thicket and across the river of statue garden. there are places where the cliffs don't have access to the surrounding areas, and few trees. you can cut the trees down and the muujin will just run around looking for the trees to jump into but will have no place to go as they can't jump down or up. basically going for fish in a barrel

white chapaa is easy if you line up your shot nice and steady before hand then quickly shoot a dispel arrow 3 times as fast as possible

you can get REALLY close to the huntables without scaring it, but i think people tend to not like taking the chance / getting closer makes them anxious to lose it

If you are playing in switch, you might have a hard time hunting. (Yes I have a hard time on switch compare to PC)
So I will suggest the slowdown arrow for the white chapaa. The real one will slow down once it multiply.

They do but at that point you're relying on the spawn pool of what's available

So in pokemon
You can catch or kill and get respawns

Or you can walk away from the area and come back for a full area respawn

A full area respawn is a lot at once vs slowly trying to get the rarest thing to spawn

Just to compare

Its most likely why you'd only see one raspberry beetle in palia every palia day

And possibly never get any to spawn even using a honey lure

Its pulling from a pool of whats available so they both need the space to spawn, be in the pool of options of spawning, and RNG be the thing that spawns

But when they refresh it's pretty much guarenteed at least one of what you want is out there

i honestly suggest against honey lures, due to how bugs spawn it doesn't seem viable for raspberry beetle specifically
I suggest using a buzzy jar and checking the area, then jumping servers as fast as possible to check multiple servers, i got 5 regular ones doing that but no star sadly so far

About the best you could do i assume

If you looking to level up fast, T2 would be better if you play on PC or don't have a hard time for following up shot.
If play on switch/have a hard time for following up shot - T1 might be less time consuming and easier to grind for level because its one shot kill with fine arrow. (Sernuk around Whispering bank would be my top choice)

Special animals give you more XP, but time wise it take 1 min for them to respawn 1 per map (Muujin is exception) with spawn point can be far apart. So focus on T2 and just think of Rare animals as icing on cake if you can find one. Personally I use this method.

I would not use a honey lure for silk farming as the majority will be commons. Either a buzzy jar or mining and catching the purple centipedes in Bahari is the best way. Use a candle if you don’t want to scare the insects.

they are a luck based drop (i've hunting a lot of the proudhorns looking for a star antler and no luck) but if you have access to the hunter's horn, you can at least make it a bit easier as the horn will track the deer for you.

depends on if i'm going bug hunting or not (like actively hunting) i usually keep about 200 bombs on me when i'm just out and about, but actively i'll carry close to 600 bombs

there are only 4 kinds of smoke bombs (standard, sneaky, sticky, and supreme) the standard ones are fine to use, cheap to make, and do the job fine

actually they ARE underground usually - they have clipped into the landscape (the ground or a near by rock/wall/tree) - but still go through their little routine - scuttling and then digging to disappear - the devs have fixed a lot of it - but it still happens randomly

Do we know how bugs kind of work? I'm assuming they spawn from certain positions or ranges. But there must be a lowered frequency the rarer the bug? Is it pure rng or is it on a timer?

I've been trying to catch a fire-breathing dragonfly which is rare and I'm walking at a snails pace, but there are people zooming by so I feel like as soon as one spawns it will run away

Also when I did find one I waited for it to hover and used sticky ones but it flew into the cliffs 🫠

Firebreathing dragonflies aren't hard to find if you make it a habit to check there when you go into the village or when you walk nearby. Don't sprint while in the area and they're easy to spot. Sometimes you can find 2 or 3. Try to sneak on them and if possible let them come closer on their own.

If you can use a buzzy jar, they get picked up by it, and when they run off it'll be easier to find them again (or see if they despawn)

Whatever bright sodding spark decided that the Duskwing Butterfly should be listed as Uncommon should be taken out back and flogged, then taught the difference between uncommon and so-mythical-it-probably-doesn’t-exist, then flogged again for good measure.

Welcome! It's possible to do it alone, I like doing it with or two others since it's easier to coordinate (one person uses slow down/another uses magic and then time the shots). Best place to hunt for mujiin is the cliffs east of tamalas, they can't run off them

Northern bahari, kill other sernuks to get them to show up. Since you don't have the tracker let other peeps in chat know you're looking and to keep an eye out. Magic and/or slowdown arrows help on those, I don't even bother switching to iron arrows once I slow it down or stop it from teleporting

I always run past that one. I've only seen it in southern bahari. Dispel arrows will stun the correct one so it doesn't move and slow down arrows will give it a green trail so it's easier to spot.

Before the MajiMarkt Update i ran into them quite often.
Since the Update we spotted none of them again. Some in our Group need the Star Mantis. We used 13 HoneyLures already and had also none of them even spawning.

what's the lowdown on server swapping? I just change map or quit game but maybe need to stay out of the server long enough to get into a different one

I haven't noticed this behavior except possibly in groves? but I would suggest beach combing in bahari, especially at night time. I've found it less noticeable on switch, but on PC the star bugs are like beacons

i've seen common bark cicada in the northern part of bahari hanging out on the pine trees during the morning and day time. Garden leafhoppers and firebreathing dragonflies like to hang out over by mirror fields in kilima at all times. Brighteyes are also north bahari during morning and day times and can benefit from using a buzzy jar (if you have one) to take you to there location.

ancient amber beetles are epic bugs, so they won't be easy to find, buzzy jars in the north area of bahari will probably be a best bet to find them, though they may have a chance to spawn with the northern side groves if you are lucky to find one first to check

T2 Muujin and sell their mane. Take 1 less fine arrow compared to T2 sernuk but the mane is more expensive than antler.
You can also worm the meat you got or sell directly. Fur is insta sell if you don't need it for crafting 🙂

3 hits with a fine arrow and an exquisite bow. I think the bow is only important for distance. But sometimes you find sernuks that have already been hit by other people. If you're level 10 or above you have a 'hunt together' weekly achievement and you can see it going up while hunting sernuks seemingly alone. Which means it looks like you hunt them on your own, but they've been hit before

Also, in bahari, you can find different kind of sernuks. If it gives one hide it was a normal sernuk (and it goes down in one hit), if it gives 4 it's an elder sernuk. But it looks like you know that already

If you get to a flow grove first there is often either a fairy mantis, a gewel wing, or a rainbow tipped butterfly there
It just gets scared off by whoever got there first usually because they either don't know or ignore it because grove is more important to them

It would be nice if more people knew and considered it and set up group catching because it would help a lot of players :)

(Its also poasible a magic creature is there so if there's no bug or no proudhorn there's probably a magic muujin in the tree)

around 1am you can do a round in northern bahari to clear out as many bugs as possible

at 3am use your buzzy jar and maybe a smoke bomb (to make sure you don't spook the bugs by accident)

I recommend doing a loop in pulse water and bluffs for maybe 2 Palia days? That’s 2 hrs irl or more if you have time. Kill or spook all the butterflies you can find from 3am to 6pm, nonstop. You should also have buzzy jars with you. Ignore if it wants to take you to the top of pavel coz most likely it’s just an azure stone hopper or spitfire or jewel wing. Maybe there is a rainbow but chance is slim too. Resist going there just concentrate on the loop to get the rainbow. Bring 400-500 sneaky bombs if you will do this nonstop. That’s what I did. Don’t go home or change servers coz u will lose all the work you did killing the butterflies. Just throw them if your pack is full. Gold isn’t important right now. Also if you have to repair your belt do it before the spawn time and don’t use fast travel coz it might take you to another server just run to central and back. This is not a guaranteed approach but you would want to try everything like I did!

Some people catches a rainbow easier than a duskwing or getting a void ray with no pain than the unicorn or vice versa. All is fair tho some of us gets there longer than others. Keep trying. I failed many times as well.

I once went to try and get a starred duskwing I was all ready with 5 lures and buzzy jars and when I went to the shrine there was a starred duskwing just there

the two best ways that i've gotten mine was to get to a grove first and slowly walk around, groves have a chance to spawn either an epic bug or a magical creature, the second way was to get to pulsewater around 2:30 and pop a buzzy jar around 2:55 then follow where the jar leads you. I've gotten most of my rainbow tips using the grove method, though. I got my star version by joining a honey lure group up in pulsewater, but those are not very reliable.

I guess I thought it was generally considered polite to ask before jumping in on someone's lure. Yet it keeps happening that randoms come help themselves. One took the star raspberry beetle I used 4 lures and a lot of time to find. So if you are using someone else's lure you only need to hit rare bugs once.

Is it also not obvious that if you don't have smoke bombs, you don't belong near a lure.

It just seems like basic etiquette to ask or avoid someone using a lure before you jump in and start helping yourself

honey lures are only great for common and uncommon bugs imho. it's luck if the epic and rare bugs spawn during the lure. most of the time using the buzzy jar is the best way to go

trust me, i know that feeling, i tried 3 honey lures behind the farm area and never saw a raspberry, but when i decided to use the buzzy jar, and run to the different areas that had other rare bugs (mirror fields to get the firebreathing dragonfly) i usually come back to find a raspberry

also jumping servers, especially since the fast travel sign is by the farm area. do a massive circle to check all the locations for rare bugs, catching as i go, when i get to the farm area i can use the sign to travel home, turn around and go back out for another run.

thing is, i did the long run catching all the rare bugs to see if that would open up spawn points for the raspberry. i would believe that the game only has a certain amounts of spawns per type of bug, so the rare bugs have to compete with the other rare bugs. and firebreathing dragons are all over mirror fields so catching them on the way to the farm (along with the leafhoppers that share the spawn locations) also gives the silk to make more buzzy jars. raspberry in the area around the farm great, if not, i take the fast travel back home and repeat

at least the raspberry spawns at all times, unlike the last bug i need which only spawns at night

You can catch with only sticky bombs. Catch rate for bugs depends on the bug belt not the bombs themselves

for beetle i suggest doing a buzzy jar and jumping servers while in leafhopper (either by relog or using the quick travel board to go home and walk back or go to bahari and quick travel back) from there its just rng rolling until you finally get one but thats how i currently have 9 regular XD

The level of bug belt effects your catch rate not the bombs. I use smoke and sticky bombs. Smoke bombs don't scare them away if you miss and sticky keep them from running away but I'm not sure how effective the second one is since a normal bomb keeps them from moving for a bit

I have caught both the duskwing and raspberry beetle….. I seem to attract them when I have no bug bombs on me lol. I find duskwing is best caught near the dragon temple late morning, early day. And the raspberry beetle in the evening behind the farm. Make sure you are using a candle with lure. It makes it easier

Honey lure is pretty lame with only one or two people: you just don’t knock out the normal bugs fast enough for rare ones to spawn. But I jumped in on a group of like a dozen people with a lure last night and we were knocking out the normal bugs so fast that I caught like four azure grasshoppers.

We should do like cake parties but with honey pots. Get twenty people to sign up and everyone who wants to use honey pots can save them for the group gathering to run them back to back. It would require syncing everyone to the same server, that’s the big hurdle.
