Things look like they come off when you move them on the red present. For the cottages the door pops off temporarily.

They should go back when you place it down.

That's super weird... I don't know why it's picky about orientation. But in any case, you can use the one cup method for this... Put a pillar on the edge of the dresser. Then group select with the pillar and cancel place the pillar/dresser combo down next to two stacked crates as close as possible (I could only get this to work with two, one was not enough). Then group select off of the crates and move the whole collection of items in the direction and the distance that you want to move the dresser into the wall, and place it down. The dresser will snap back, sunken into the wall as far as you moved the crates.

Oh yeah, this won't work. You have to cancel place the shelf flat, then you can just place the barrel. When you pick up and place the shelf again, the barrel will be sideways.

You'll have to get the positioning right to get the barrel to look like it's actually resting on the shelf, but that is how to do it.

The barrel needs a flat horizontal surface to place. So you position your shelf sideways by placing it. This is the "real" orientation of the shelf. Then when you reposition the shelf horizonally and cancel place it you are kind of faking out the horizontal surface so that the barrel will place. But it's being placed on a sideways shelf, because the "real" position of the shelf is sideways. It's just cancel placed horizontally.

place three shelves on the wall. put a pillar on the first one multiselect the pillar and place it on the ground do the same with the second on but place it on top of the shelf on the ground and few small blocks back and repeat for the third once you did that then multiselect the pillar and move it into the crates

Did you keep watering them? Sometimes depending on what's around them, they can stop showing the watering bar but if you water them they make the sound and animation and ultimately grow

Placement/attaching items on plots

Once things are placed on each other, you can only group select the entire construction, from what Ive seen. Is there a way to place a group of items on another group without the two being attached permanently?

For example:
I have a bunch of the yardwork platforms stacked up to make a hill and I want to place a giant platform on it made up of multiple petite platforms.

Im worried about placing the platforms because if I put it in the wrong spot or change my mind, I'll have to take it apart piece by piece.

If it was just a few it wouldn't be a big deal, but this thing has been a pain in the rear to make on switch and I don't want to rebuild it if I mess up.

The toilet paper glitch works on the shelf it looks correct but when I take it off the shelf everything snaps to the middle of the butcher block. What did I do wrong? ... never mind! I got it to work on the cottage. For some reason it didnt like the harvest house. Let there be TP! ❤️

The basic answer is no, because if you are using group select to move things, it will move everything that is touching whatever you group select by.

However, if you build in a way that there is a single piece as the base of your build, then you can move everything by just picking up that base piece. You don't have to use group select. Many of us build things on a single anchor piece so that we can move the entire build by just picking up the anchor piece.

Its a giant rectangle of petite platforms with decorations in the empty holes so it would be a pain to redo 😆

It's basically whatever you start with. I have not used the umbraan platforms, so I don't know for sure, but usually the first piece you place is an anchor and everything else is attached to that.

You can test by going around trying to pick up each one. Just hit escape if it doesn't pick up your entire build.

Okay, those "petite" platforms are far from petite. 😂 I had never made one before, but amusingly, they were the very next thing I had to make in that set.

In any case. Did you snap them together at the nodes? Because if they are snapped together, they will move together when you pick up the first one.

You won't have to use group select at all.

You should still be able to pick it up from the middle one. You just will get knocked to the ground when you do it. 😂

So yeah, that middle piece (if that was the one) is the anchor for the entire thing, and every thing will move with that if it's on any one of the platforms attached to that one. You won't have to use group select at all, it will all just move as one unit! So if you don't like where it is when you place it the first time, just pick it up again from that same anchor platform.

I have a paver with a bowl on it on my plot. It's the anchor for a sunken terrace out of bounds, but it's one paver in the middle of an entire path. So it has a bowl on it so I can find it again!

You can do everything on switch except obstacle flicking! It can be a little trickier on switch but it's not impossible!

I need some help. I pick up a fish from my aquarium and when I placed it down, I noticed it was floating and messing up the whole row. I then tried to rearrange the stack to fix it, and the problem spread to another one that was placed on the ground briefly. How can I fix this?

before doing that, maybe exit the plot so things resets
sometimes when a glitch or placement doesn't work, when you exit it allows you again after coming back

the on in the middle is colliding, that's why it's doing that, (my guess)

you can put a desert plate down, put the cobweb on top, multiselect and put it on a wall, take out the cobweb use it to flick the book into the plate

Hey yall! Looking for opinions if anyone cares to input? But I’m starting a new campground themed plot using tents around for “sites”, a harvest house for a general store/info booth, and I’ve managed to horde a dozen or so makeshift outhouses. My question is:
#1- do i set up an outhouse near each tent for “personal” use
#2- make 2-3 outhouse stations throughout the campground
#3- use some pavilions and set up one singular “bathroom” sort of area?
Kind of stumped on this one, #3 is what I’ve opted with for little villages and other spaces I’ve made before, and I like making them, but I’m also worried I’m just drinking the same kool-aid over and over again when something could be more interesting from the perspective of how the actual campground would be designed 😭

Most campgrounds I've been to have a central bath area so that seems more realistic to me. But if you're tired of doing the same-ol thing, then mix it up and see what happens! There's no rules!

Cancel placement is going to become your best friend now that you have learned how to do it. You can cancel place the rug out of the way to place things there, then reload your plot.

I'm pretty sure you can use a pillar to group select the stairs (they have to be placed in a cottage or estate room first), and move them into the harvest house. You can definitely move them out of the cottage/estate onto the ground outside. I just haven't placed them inside a harvest house yet, but I'm pretty sure others have.

you dont get stairs with the old housing line as the houses can not be stacked alchemist stairs and estate stairs can only be used in the new houses

You can put the block on a shelf and then move the shelf to the front inside wall of your estate/cottage. Everything will pop out of the block into the air. You can then just grab the lost ornament and leave the rest. When you take the shelf off that wall and put it on a normal wall, everything else will go back.

Or you can put the block in an empty room and pick up the room, but that will pick up everything.

(I'm assuming there's a second ornament inside the box and not the one we can see...)

I think, for me, the three colours of a tint aren't always a combination I would choose so yes berry is there as pinkish but it's so in-your-face bright that I would only use it sparingly! And the fact that a tint doesn't always show up how you'd expect on a piece of furniture i.e. the primary colour isn't always the first in the tint palette

Jewel tones in general are a very bold statement. And unfortunately that's what most of the tints are. Toning them down is hard when all the colors are like that, or they are a grey wood tone/brown, etc. It doesn't dull it enough. It's why I always end up building in green or wood ...

I was really hoping for the citrine swatch, I want some bold colors and we're in need of a yellow fr. I'd also like jasper but in a more orange sense, because the autumn swatch may count as orange but its a bit too brown for me to count it entirely, what does everyone else think? In regards to aquamarine being more greeny blue, yes, however Sapphire is usually a richer, mid/dark blue

You can anchor them to a dessert plate and if you do it with cancel placement of the plate, you can have it floating off the plate so you can hide the plate.

So to me it sounds like your game is not bugged, but rather you are having difficulties with it since they updated collision checks, etc. Have you tried hanging items out of bounds to flick to see if it is easier for you? The grid has become an issue depending on what you are trying to flick and where

The anchor you are flicking onto will be hung outside of the grid by placing it at the edge of the plot and hanging it out over the grid lines.

I figured out actually it is a harvest house/room because that's a window to the left, correct? The hitbox is indeed very weird with this sign. I have an idea but it might be not worth it. Depends on how much you have built around there.

IF you have room to add a room behind that wall, AND you have nothing super difficult to replace on that wall (like no attic built upstairs or anything), you could add a room there, open up the wall between the two rooms, place your sign (just normally without flicking), and then remove the extra room. But BEWARE, anything attached to that wall will go into inventory as soon as you add a room there, or if not then, then they definitely will once you open up the wall.

What tints did y'all vote for? I went with Amethyst (purple is soooo pretty), Onyx (a dark blue would be super nice), and Quartz (I want white decor). I alllllllmost did Emerald, too, because I adore green, but we already have some green Tints, so I didn't lol

You need a second anchor to put the present with the house on. Cancel place that anchor lower, the distance you want to sink the house, then put the present with the house on top of that second (cancel placed) anchor. When you pick up that second anchor and put it down again, the present/house combo will sink.

OR, you can sink the house when putting it on the present. Place the present on something (the height above the ground should be the same distance you want to sink), then cancel place the present onto the ground before placing the house on it. When you pick up the present and put it down again, the house will sink in relation to the present. The only thing is that if you sink too far, the present will pop through the floor of your house.

So I'm pretty sure that set is in Subira's shop in the Elderwoods. There's a little stand near Tamala's shop that sells some wallpaper and a couple furniture sets. (It's also where you get the Cozy Camp set, which is the one that has the pavilion for the bulletin board.)

As for the alchemist set, you have to buy Alchemist Cottage A, and that will unlock the rest of the entire Alchemist cottage line.

Also, I just checked to be sure, and the arch I have does not have the wisteria, and that's the one from Tish's Umbraan set. So it's definitely in the "Outer Umbraan" set in the EW (I haven't crafted everything from that set yet).

Why they gave two sets basically the same name... I have no idea...

The add-ons for the alchemist cottage are only at city hall. Subira only has the wallpapers, flooring, and those two furniture sets. And all of it is bought with essence, so you don't need to save your gold for that.

The thing you have highlighted in your picture is the conservatory, and it's very pretty, but it doesn't attach to anything--only free-standing. It's also green and cannot be recolored. Those were not deal-breakers for me, but just letting you know so you can be a smart shopper. 🙂

Once you know cancel placement, you place your mixing station, then you cancel place it out of the way, then you place an item to hide inside the mixing station (like a builders block I think works) in the same place. Place the items you want on top of the mixing station on top of the block, and then reload your plot. The mixing station will jump back to where it was, and the block will be hidden inside. The stuff on top of the block will look like it's on top of the mixing station.

Unfortunately, there is no way to make it so you can just place stuff on the mixing station, because the way they've changed things lately, the grid on the block is hidden by the surface of the mixing station. So you have to put stuff on the block without the station there in order for it to look like it's on the station.

(Or else the surface of the block has to be poking through the surface of the mixing station.)

I think you can also use some different cabinets, but I don't know which ones fit inside the mixing station, but it's still the same process.

It could be a number of things causing it. Something may be a bit too close and The piece you are using to flick is bouncing off of it, or you could have stacked grids, and it is trying to jump to the other, and so it doesn't anchor, etc

You know how items have top grids, like a terrace piece, a dresser, etc? If you stack items and try to flick it may try to attach to the grid below what u are aiming at. Not always, but in some cases. It's the reason why rug anchors have to be hung out of bounds to be flicked onto the anchor, or why u have to stack anchors to flick, bc it will anchor to the one below where u flicked

Even having a plate on a shelf for example, if it is directly over it, it may connect to the shelf and not the plate, so floating the plate away from the shelf helps. No "stacked grids" and hanging it out of bounds means no grid at all except what u are aiming at, so much easier

It's not up on a terrace or anything where u want to place it right? If you put a rug on top of a pillar, put that pillar on top of the log, then multi-select by the rug, it will avoid collision as long as the rug doesn't collide with anything. So if it's close to a building or something where the rug would hit the wall, just cancel place/float the rug off the pillar so it is further away

The tilting is the hard part... I actually did the skateboards separate because it was giving me a headache trying to figure out how to do it, since it looks better with the bottom of the skateboard out. So the rack is not so bad, but you might have to play around a bit to get the positioning just right.

Put a floor on a shelf on a wall (image 1). Then rotate the shelf two clicks. I positioned the shelf with the corner pretty much at the top right corner of my wall like in image 2. Then you are going to cancel place it flat... if you imagine the knives are going to go where I have put the red marks in image 3, you can put the flat shelf in the right position. Then you cancel place the floor in that spot where you want the knives (image 4). Then place the knives three small squares apart, and just inside that ridge on the edge as in image 5. You want the knife handles towards the closer edge. Then pick up your wall and place it down again so that all the positioning resets (image 6). (to be continued...)

For a second pair of pegs, you have to do the same basic thing but cancel place the shelf up a little higher, and place the knives in a different spot. Imagine image 7, cancel place like in image 8, and place the knives like in image 9. Then pick up and place the wall again to reset everyting (image 10). (to be continued...)

Finally, take your wall inside and put a cobweb on it (image 11). Group select from the cobweb and place it on the wall at the height you want it (image 12). Now put a crate down in the room. Take your floor from the wall and cancel place it onto the side of the crate (image 13). Move the crate 1 small square towards the wall that the floor was stuck to (image 14), and place the crate. The floor with the knives will sink into the wall with just the knives sticking out (image 15).

However, it is possible to flick it into place...

@signal thunder skateboard rack part two!!! I cannot get this perfect, but it's pretty good. And once I was done, I realized it might look better if they were closer together vertically, so you might want to play around more, or even just add a set of pegs in between the two I did. In any case, I floated the skateboards off a dessert plate.

Put the plate on the edge of the very middle of an industrial shelf (image 1). Then rotate it four clicks from horizontal and place it as far down and as far over as you can get in the corner of your wall (this is so you can see where to cancel place it next). It should look like image 2 (that really is as far over to the right as the shelf will go). Then you want to rotate the shelf back to horizontal and cancel place it perfectly centered on the second full big square on the wall, just below the second heavy line up as in image 3. Place your skateboard perpendicular to the wall and perfectly centered on the plate (image 4). Then the tricky spacing... you want to move the shelf up 4 clicks (2 small squares) and left 6 clicks (3 small squares) and cancel place it again (image 5). You'll need to cancel place the skateboard on there onto the floor or somewhere and then place your second skateboard centered the same way as the first (image 6--you can see my cancel placed out of the way skateboard on the floor there). Then pick up the plate and put it on the floor and you will have angled, floating skateboards (image 7). (to be continued...)

Next you want to rotate it around so that the bottom of the skateboards are facing outward and then center them with respect to the knives on the wall, as far back towards the wall as you can place them (sorry, forgot to take a picture of this, but you'll see what I mean next). Cancel place the bottom skateboard out of the way so that you can place a pillar on the plate on the floor. From here on out you are going to group select with that pillar so you can move everything together. If you group select and pick up the pillar/plate/skateboards and place them right back down, it will look like image 8.

Now place a crate on the wall (not the front wall of your house--it has to be a side or back wall), then pick it up and place it a second time just to correct for any weird rotation that sometimes happens. Line up your crate within a square on the wall so it's easy to see what you do next. You will group select your pillar and move the pillar/plate/skateboards over and cancel place them onto the side of the crate on the wall (image 9). Now group select with the crate and slide the crate down about a half small square. Place the crate and the pillar/plate/skateboards will snap back, now sunk a little.

Next place a crate on the floor, again best to line it up within one of the big squares. Group select with the pillar and move the pillar/plate/skateboards and cancel place them on the side of the crate on the floor (image 10). Now once again group select with the crate and slide the crate towards the wall a half small square and then place the crate. The pillar/plate/skateboards will snap back again, now hopefully in the right position to look like they are resting on the knives. If they aren't where you want them, you can repeat this process until you get them where you want. But when you're done, you can remove the pillar (image 11)!

I honestly did this so many times that it's possible I had to move a full small square on the very last step with the crate (I can't remember because I kept adjusting!), so you might have to do that half square move twice if it's not quite far back enough to be behind the knives. Also, you can do minor adjustments if you take the grid off when you move the crate, but you have to be careful not to move side to side with respect to the wall and just move forward and back.

And like I said, they seem far apart vertically now that it's done, so you might want to play around to get them closer or to add a third.

Oooh, you need to learn to cancel place. It's much easier than flicking, and will change your life. 🤣

Cancel placement allows you to temporarily move something out of the way so that you can put things in the same place to merge/overlap, etc. I'm sure there are videos out there, but here is a quick explanation, too.

1. Make sure you have a placeable item in your hotbar (can be decor, starred food/bug/fish, whatever--it just has to be something you can put down on your plot) and make sure you know what number slot that item is in.

2. Pick up the item that you want to cancel place (this will temporarily move it out of the way).

3. Move the item to somewhere else out of the way where it can be placed (so it's green) but don't place it. Instead, hit the number key for the placeable item from step 1. (You don't need to place this item or do anything else with it, just hit escape to get out of build mode.)

4. That's really it. Your moved item will look like it was placed, but it's just there temporarily. You can do whatever else you need to do, including putting stuff in the same place where that moved item was before, and when you reload your plot (by leaving to Kilima or Bahari and coming back or by switching to another plot and coming back), your temporarily moved item will be back where it was before you cancel placed it.

In your case I would move some of that stuff that is in the way of the log out of the way with cancel placement, then place the log where you want it, then reload your plot.

Oh! You will like this. You can now copy the tint from one piece of furniture and then just click away on other furniture and you will keep adding the same tint. Once you go into the tint window at the bottom there's a button to copy the tint. Then anything you click after that will get the same tint until you right click to get out of the tint copy mode.

It looks so good! Are you on PC and can you flick? Because I do think flicking is the easiest way to stick stuff along those white edges. The terrace, just because it's angled, is naturally "in the way" for flicking, and you can use the same item to flick to really get a good idea of where you are putting things.

Alternatively, you can do a lot of floating of flowers and then hiding of anchors like plates and pavers, but you will end up using a lot of extra pieces, and it gets tedious trying to get the distances correct.

It's when you try to move something and when it says "something is in the way" you hold your mouse button and then hit the number key for the item that you actually want to place there. What I have done is to place one bush down on my plot and then use that bush to flick a bunch of others, because I can see where the bush I'm flicking is going to go easily (since I'm using the same item to get the "something is in the way" message). I hope this makes sense!

I’m very excited that today I found the summer stripe umbrella in a rummage pile, and I saved enough $$ to purchase and build my Grand Harvest House.

Not at all. throw some colorful flowers around the bottoms of the roots, if it were me I'd add more trees actually and possible the pine looking ones instead. Looks good !!

Thank you! I'm hopeful that once I add a ton more trees (they're still growing haha) it'll all blend better. Right now having 3 rogue trees was throwing me off 😂
