Aw, no. Well if you're holding left-click it should be reeling in as in the fish and the circle should be getting closer to your character.

If the fish is in the middle of jumping though, you won't be able to reel it in while it's in the air. Wait until it's back in the water then continue.

I thought Stripeshell Snails were also considered a rare spawn. Regardless, you're doing the right thing.

They can spawn both on land or in water, but most of the ones I've caught were in the water. It's difficult to tell them apart from the garden ones when they're in water at night cause they're both dark. :(

You both need to have finished the tutorial - press O to bring up the friends list. If you haven't found your friend yet, go to manage friends and type in their username (or have them search for yours). You can also cancel tool animations. It's different depending on what you're trying to cancel, but mining and chopping can be cancelled by left-clicking intermittently instead of holding left-click. Click once to start, then click right after the sparks fade, repeat. Takes some practice.
