Void ray is not even a particularly fast fish, it's relatively easy to reel
If you're talking about increasing chances, there's no way to do that. Just keep trying. Imo the easiest place to catch one is the underground

I like fishing so I've gotten a decent hang of it, but with fishing food I have a 100% catch rate on epic fish when I do reel them in, vs without I'm at a 50%~75% rate, depending on the fish. Ancient fish is definitely been a 50-50 for me without the buffs

You should make 8 of those wooden chests to maximize your storage capacity.

Also don't ignore focus! Eat to keep the focus bar full, so you level skills faster. There are 2 shrines where you can upgrade your focus, one is where you started the game and another one is in Maji's hollow.
