Crops are the only thing that will only grow while you're playing, unless they changed it. Everything else runs out of game.

They do that because they like you! But the decor items, including wallpapers, do not take up inventory space so you are safe to store them until you need them! Which would be when you get a harvest house at town hall, you can use wallpaper and you'll want those free ones at first!

I had to look up Zeki's treasures because there was one I was certain was a treasure (and it was), but it wouldn't let me pick it up. I just had to be sure that it really was one of the items.
