Things went up, and then too many people tried to update and log in at the same time and broke something. Test servers have far less people, so it was only an issue until thousands tried at once.

They do have test servers, I'm sure. However, a test server can never accurately depict what happens on a live server when many hundreds or thousands of people try to login all at once, and they don't have enough employees to try to fake it.

In server work sometimes you just don't know. If its physically overheated they could have to unplug it all and blow it out. If its overheated in a damaging way they'll have to fully reprogram one and get it set back up right. It could take hours. They are doing their best.

It's real hit or miss with what you get in SL. I lucked out and my wife only lived an hour and a half away, so I was able to see her pretty early on in the relationship.
